Boybands Forever (BBC iplayer or ☠️ for now) is an excellent documentary that doesn't wallow in nostalgia nor in the darkness of the music business.

If it were up to me, I'd have given a fourth episode to the fan bases which were powerhouses of their own but I understand the focus, there's a huge amount of people and events to cover in three hours.

With that said, Louis Theroux and his wife do a really good job of asking the important questions and filming if the answers come out spontaneously or rehearsed.

They manage to place a narrative arc over the 90s boy band era & give the audience a very satisfying ending.

I found it touching that many of the artists loved and still love performing so long as they can go off the clock at the end of the night. Despite being worked to the bone and commodified in every way, they don't resent or fear the audiences... I think that says a lot.

I've just watched all three episodes of Boybands Forever on iPlayer. Basically every group got screwed over by their management and the tabloids and treated like commodities. They were all so young and there was no duty of care. It was sad to hear them talking about their experiences (and sad to think that nothing changed 20 years later for One Direction).

watching boybands forever on bbc1 and loving seeing all the old take that interviews. so nostalgic as this is my whole childhood. they have robbie being interviewed and im sure ive said this so many times but i just love this man

if yuichi was an idol (lord help him lol) he'd have been like... either scouted randomly when he was out somewhere (i guess for his looks? he'd never believe that askdfkfd) (OMG if they saw him among a garden and the agent was like 'shit... flower boy...' LOL) or he'd work for the company in some capacity already and get put in an on-the-spot audition or something idk. what i'm saying is he'd never go out for an audition himself he'd have to be thrown into it.
