Chaos At Creekside Acres

A/N: This is the start of a sort of series of adventures on Namine’s farm. I’m kinda hella proud that this didn’t end up too bad with how many characters I tried to squeeze in here lol but anyway enjoy!

Word Count: 1028 words

Namine stood on the tip of her toes, pushing the glass cup to the back of the cabinet so that she could fit the rest of them in there. She was enjoying the quiet, breezy afternoon, finally settling into her new cabin. She reached for the next dish but tensed and lost her grip when she heard the floorboards creek behind her and Aqua whisper-shouting for Ven. “I told you not to go inside yet.”

“But she said we’re welcome any time!”

“That doesn’t mean you go in without knocking!”

Namine’s head jerked in the directions of the voices, searching the hallway for the owners, but her attention was brought back to the kitchen by Terra’s soft voice. “Where do you want this?”

Her eyes darted between him and the cup, realizing she never heard it fall. She directed him towards the mostly empty shelf and thanked him before getting distracted by yet another voice.

“He’s not in here!” Sora had his head poked around the corner of the doorway and he smiled when Namine caught his eyes. “Hi Namine!”

“Do you just want the rest of the cups up here?”

“Um sure.” Her attention slowly turned back towards Terra.

“And the plates?”

She pointed at the cabinet next to it. “Up there.”

“Kairi, Roxas, in here!” Namine’s head swiveled back towards the doorway. She was starting to feel dizzy. Axel stood where Sora’s head was no longer at, shouting over one shoulder and carrying grocery bags over the other. He bumped into Namine then steadied her with his free hand. “Sorry ‘bout that, Namine. Hey, do you have a grill?”

“No...”

“That’s alright, we brought one just in case- Hey Isa, you owe me ten bucks! I told you she wouldn’t have a grill.”

“We brought veggie burgers in case you wanted those instead.” Kairi came bouncing in, ducking below Axel’s arm. She smiled at Namine, “And since some of the boys had to have meat, we got turkey burgers because we felt like beef would be insensitive to Betsy.”

“I still think Betsy wouldn’t have known we were eating beef.” Roxas rolled his eyes towards Kairi. “And it’s not like we were going to feed burgers to the cow anyway.”

Namine’s head turned this way and that as more people continued piling into her kitchen, shouting over one another other. Xion pounced after Axel and Hayner - who Namine hadn’t seen come in - reminding them that she wanted to help with the grilling.

Aqua shouted something about not being able to find Ven still, to which Terra suggested he was probably in the barn with Betsy.

Riku and Olette were wondering where to set up drinks…

Namine’s head swam. She stood in the middle of her kitchen, feeling suddenly small as she tried to raise her voice loud enough to catch their attention and ask them what they were all doing there. She managed to stop a couple of conversations and grab the attention of the passing Sora who smiled and said, “We thought you might not want to be alone for lunch in the new house.”

Her eyes welled with tears. She had bought this farm out in the countryside, large enough so that they could visit if they’d like, but she had also gotten Betsy for companionship. They all had each other, their own groups that they were a part of, she didn’t expect that they’d…

“Sora what’d you do, she’s crying.” Riku teased, but there was hints of worry in his voice that caused the whole room to quiet and turn their attention towards Namine.

“No, no, it’s just…” She quickly wiped her tears and smiled. “A veggie burger would be nice.”

Aqua gently patted her on the head in understanding and grinned towards the three halfway out the back door. “Well, what are you guys waiting for?”

Xion caught the not so subtle subject change before the boys did and pushed them out the door, “Come on, the burgers aren’t gonna cook themselves.”

The commotion picked back up as quickly as it had died down and this time Namine felt a warmth coursing through her rather than a sense of confusion and smallness. She watched for a moment, taking it all in, smiling and laughing to herself over the things she was seeing.

Kairi and Roxas returned to their riff about the burgers, Roxas making more snide comments about feeding the burgers to Betsy and Kairi responding with, “Okay, we’ll feed her your servings and you can just starve.”

Pence had joined Terra in helping put away dishes but Terra was soon pulled away by Aqua’s search for Ven in which Sora said he’d seen him asleep in the barn, confirming Terra’s earlier suspicions. With Terra no longer standing in front of the window, she could see Hayner and Isa struggling to get the grill to light and Axel laughing before coming to their aide. She could only assume Isa walked the grill around the house to the back of the cabin since she hadn’t seen him pass through.

Back inside, Riku and Olette were still debating on where to set up drinks. Namine pulled herself from her spot and joined the two, letting them know they can use the fridge and that she kept the pitchers on the bottom cabinet to the left of the sink.

She heard a knock on the front door, confusion sinking in once more but clearing up when Ienzo stood outside, sheepishly rubbing a hand on the back of his head. “It didn’t feel right to come in without asking permission. Plus… I wasn’t sure if I was invited.”

Namine smiled warmly and gestured for him to come inside, both of them getting startled by Demyx who yawned from the couch and said, “You should really fix your security system.” He yawned again and fell back asleep.

Laughter and shouts filled Namine’s quiet farm and she thought to herself that maybe she could get used to this, if they felt like they’d want to come around more often. Seeing the mixture of people gave her hope that maybe she’d find a place amongst them after all.
