Stitches and Sentences Sunday

As I mentioned last week, I figured I needed a new banner for weeks that include sewing and writing. I had elaborate plans for it, but then the week got way from me so this is still a work in progress. (Thanks to @aristocratic-otter for the idea of a pencil and paper!)

In sewing news, I have mostly finished the new doll set. I am only missing accessories before the final unveiling, but I figured I'd do a behind-the-scenes progress post.

Since I started making dolls, they have almost entirely been for fics because I couldn't think of a way to honor artists that wouldn't simply recreate visual art in felt (which seemed like cheating). While chatting with @rimeswithpurple, I discovered we both loved Wayward Son best in the trilogy, and I remembered a fabulous bake she made for Baz's birthday last year. Inspiration struck!

I present my planning page for this project... a mood board of sorts including the materials I considered using.

The florals and purple unicorns of the bake are so impressive, and I wanted to channel both with this project. I also wanted to do a nod at our favorite book--so future accessories (if I can pull it off) include a unicorn milkshake and some sunglasses.

In the meantime, here is the new set, mostly finished. And because I am so damn proud of them, please have a close-up of Baz's loafers.

SIMON I’m already in the window, waiting for Baz when he sits down with the box I delivered. He peeks inside, rolls his eyes, and writes on his board. Seriously? A child’s toy? I nod and hold up my prepared message: Fancy a match? Baz laughs and begins unboxing the items. Two small nets. Two little robots. A tiny plastic football. One remote control. He digs around in the box, flips it upside down, and scrawls furiously on his board. You should ask for your money back. It’s missing a remote.  I grin, waving the other remote, safely in my possession.
