What is a bonbon?

I was listening to an american podcast and they were talking about bonbons being chocolates which - as a german - confused me, so I decided to look it up.

Apparently the word bonbon in english means what we call Praline??? Huh????

So now I am asking once more: Tumblr what is a bonbon to you?

A: a type of hard candy

B: a type of chocolate

Solomon & Barbatos - Bonbons

Headcanon:

Both Solomon and Barbatos have bonbons to give to the other if they've upset them. They often overstep or insult each other so that it isn't clear if what they've said is true or if they simply don't care for the other's feelings.

It started as Barbatos just handing bonbons to Solomon when he couldn't yet distinguish between being angry or hating someone. It calmed his nerves down, even if he never ended up eating them.

Whenever Solomon summoned Barbatos, grabbing him from his duties for his own benefits, he gave him a bonbon as an apology. He didn't want to inconvenience the demon, he just needed some help. Surprisingly, he never used it to get out of trouble. A bonbon was nothing he could use to avoid punishment or manipulate Barbatos. Not that he ever even gave a bonbon to Barbatos if he wasn't honest about it. It was their way of communicating without anyone noticing.

Only once was a bonbon refused. Solomon had accidentally broken a vase and was panicking, trying to apologize to Barbatos and give him a bonbon. Barbatos was mad but didn't see it as big enough to be worth getting a bonbon over. Besides, he was not used to Solomon giving HIM bonbons. Though when Solomon panicked even more because he thought his apology wasn't accepted, Barbatos took the bonbon and ate it. Perhaps the only time that a bonbon got eaten as well. It wasn't up to his tastes but if it calmed Solomon down, he'd deal with it for now before punishing him accordingly. (Solomon got tought how to clean up a broken vase and helped pick out a new one since Barbatos was unsure if he could handle any kind of punishment typical for demons.)

what i learned from the bonbon poll (this one), is that i desperately want to try one of these things:

also i learned that some people can't figure out what bonbon means, which is exactly how i feel about toffee or fudge. those will forever remain a mystery to me.
