Astro Observations
misc. (i)
⛔️ TW: mention of anorexia and drugging❗️
♡ Venus Square Mars may attract obsessive people. In particular, people who obsess over their looks or fetishize them in some way. Brooke Shields had a whole nation obsessed with her at the mere age of 12. Eugenia Cooney has infamously attracted hoards of anorexia fetishists with her content. People with this placement may have a higher risk of drastic weight loss or gain.
♡ Either I meet too many Capricorn Suns by coincidence or it's a rather common placement. One reasoning could be that April is an ideal month for marriage in many places, especially ones where it gets unbearably hot in June. Spring adds to April's allure. Traditional couples often conceive right after tying the knot, making the pregnancy due in Capricorn season.
♡ Lilith is associated with sexuality but people focus too much ONLY on that facet of it. Lilith is associated with many other things like power, revenge and how one becomes a social pariah.
♡ Planets at 0° may symbolize struggle. Lana Del Rey has Sun at 0°. The Sun represents our ego. She had many controversies in 2020 including the mesh mask and her Instagram rant undermining POC artists. Even after criticism, instead of apologizing, she remained defensive. I believe that planets at 0° provide a lot of room for growth if the individual is genuinely interested in self-improvement.
♡ Aries Moon (ruled by Mars) and Scorpio Moon (ruled by Pluto, traditionally by Mars) despite being similar are perceived quite differently by people. The sign of Aries gives child-like quality to the native. They come off as cute and their sarcastic remarks are perceived as good humor. E.g. Rihanna roasting Helena Bonham Carter's sense of fashion. Meanwhile, one eyeroll from a Scorpio Moon, and they may come off as hateful and jealous. My advice to Scorpio Moons who want to be in the public eye, please never put on the mean girl persona. Tap into your kind side, it'll be received in a positive way and you'll attract genuine support.
♡ Venus-Mars aspects symbolize beauty; the difference may lie in how people perceive it. Venus Trine Mars are often called cute. People with this aspect are well-liked and have a good reputation. These are the people who may never be cancelled due to the halo effect they have. No matter how massively popular they are, people won't be digging up dirt on them, which is also why very little is known about these people's personal lives. These people often become a household name due to that one iconic thing they did, even if they decide to adapt a lowkey presence afterwards. Let me emphasize this with an extensive list of examples:
✧ Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), Zayn, Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), Adele, Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Sabrina Carpenter, Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man), Kate Middleton, Mandy Moore (A Walk to Remember), Jackie Chan, Jenna Fischer (The Office), Ana de Armas, Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games), Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians), Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) and Alan Rickman (Harry Potter) have this aspect.
✧ Taeyang being the only member of former K-pop group BIGBANG who's had no controversies (also managed to keep his relationship hidden for a long time before revealing it with a wedding announcement), Khloé Kardashian being the least disliked Kardashian/Jenner sister, Cardi B admitting to drugging and robbing men, starring in Hustlers that glamorized it, hitting her career peak with WAP the very next year really drives the point home.
✧ I've also noticed this aspect in almost all Bollywood IT girls of their time: Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai, Anushka Sharma, Ayesha Takia, Dia Mirza, Divya Bharti, Parveen Babi - all loved by the general public despite the media scrutiny and misogyny that prevails within the industry.

✩ filmy dialogues 🎞️
pairing: oscar piastri x desi!reader
cw: fluff
wc: 1.5k words
an: ty anon for this request! i loved writing it!! <4

"And which one is this again?" Oscar asked as he settled in to watch the movie Y/N had picked out.
"It's a Bollywood movie! You're gonna love it—it was my favorite growing up."
"Is it one of those romance ones?"
Oscar was a bit of a bore when it came to movies. His favorite genre was sci-fi, while Y/N's was rom-coms. Naturally, choosing a movie to watch was always a challenge.
"Well… yes and no. It's like a heist movie, but it has a bit of everything in it, really."
"I don't trust your judgment since you made us watch that movie with those nepo babies."
"That was a mistake on my part, I agree. But this one is so good, I promise."
Movie nights were a staple of the couple’s routine, especially since Oscar was usually busy on weekends. Each week, they took turns picking a movie and rated it based on what they liked most about it. Last week, Oscar had made Y/N watch one of the Star Wars movies. While she wasn’t completely floored, she did agree that Hayden Christensen was a cutie.
"I've got the perfect one. It's called ‘Happy New Year’, and it’s iconic.”
"Very well, bring it on."
🪻🪻🪻
The movie started. They skipped through the opening credits and got to the scene where Charlie's father gets framed.
"How did they just put him in jail? Wouldn't there be a formal investigation? Plus, he remembers being drugged. This is quite unrealistic," Oscar said, raising an eyebrow.
Y/N let out a sigh, already used to her boyfriend's antics.
"I'm sure they had one, but he was up against a really powerful guy, you know?"
Oscar nodded, not entirely convinced but not completely dismissing the explanation either. They continued watching, Y/N snuggling further into the couch and against her boyfriend's shoulder. It was an unspoken ritual of sorts—she would gently bump her head against his shoulder repeatedly until he laughed and wrapped his arms around her.
"How did he just hack the voting polls? This is part of a global competition. They have to have better firewalls. Also, Team Diamond was terrible—they got booed off stage! How is everyone just accepting that they won?"
Oscar was a yapper, especially during movies.
Y/N rolled her eyes, taking a sip of her (his) Sprite. "I mean, they have a hacker on their team. It’s possible."
"Yeah, he's like 19, doing all his hacking from a laptop. A regular DELL laptop. Not even a good computer with a proper processor," Oscar grumbled, stuffing some popcorn into his mouth.
She giggled. "Well, maybe he's just that good. Besides, you don’t even know how to hack."
"That’s beside the point, and you know it."
Eventually, they reached the movie’s climax, with things heating up for the team. Y/N sat staring at the screen like she didn’t already know exactly what was going to happen next—despite having watched the movie six times before.
"Wait, so they just enter the vault with him? How does that work?" Oscar continued, pointing out the movie’s logical flaws.
"I mean, they’re lookalikes, so yeah."
"But that fingerprint probably wouldn’t work. It’s been tampered with, so it should come across as invalid."
"Why are they exiting through the sewers? They could just leave normally. This makes no sense."
"Why are they returning?! Now they’ll get arrested!"
If there was one thing Oscar would do, it was interrupt a romantic date with dumb questions.
"Maybe you shouldn’t focus so much on the movie’s accuracy, you know?" Y/N teased. "Think instead about how good Deepika looks in that saree." She winked at him.
"You’d look better anyway, and this movie’s too stupid for me not to point out everything wrong with it."
"But that's the fun, right? You don’t need to think too much while watching. Just laugh at the funny stuff and roll your eyes at the dumb moments. It’s still enjoyable. Also, I never look that good in a saree. That’s why I don’t wear them anymore," she said.
"I think you need to stop choosing the movies from next time. And yes, you do look good! I've seen the photos where you wore that blue one!"
Oscar turned Y/N’s body, which had been leaning against his chest, so that she was facing him.
"That was taken when I was in the twelfth grade! I wore it for my graduation, and it looked dumb then too."
"Well, I think you looked beautiful, and you should wear one to that Diwali party we’re going to."
She looked away, cheeks pink.
"I don’t know… it’s such a hassle to drape one. I can’t even do it without my mom’s help."
"I’m right here, aren’t I? I’ll help." He cheerfully tugged her closer to his chest, resting his head on top of hers. She could hear—almost feel—his heartbeat quicken. It was a subtle reminder that even after all this time, Oscar still got butterflies around Y/N.
"It’s super tricky, especially with the pleats. You sure you can help?" she asked, doing her best to speak from where she was trapped under him.
"I’ll try my best, darling. You’ll look better than Deepika too." He chuckled, making Y/N laugh as well, feeling the vibrations of his laughter through where her head was resting.
"Now, forget about that. I wanna watch them dance and win at the finale!" She wriggled out of his hold, reaching for the remote to unpause the movie.
"Hey, no spoilers!"
"You knew that was going to happen!"
🪻🪻🪻
The movie played on, the sounds of Bollywood music filling the room as the final dance number unfolded. Y/N, grinning, hummed along while Oscar groaned dramatically.
“I swear, if they win despite all the cheating—”
“They will win,” she cut in smugly.
Oscar rolled his eyes but didn’t complain further. His arm tightened around her, absentmindedly playing with her fingers. Y/N glanced up at him, finding that—despite all his so-called complaints—he was watching the screen with a slight smile.
"You're secretly enjoying it, aren’t you?" she accused playfully.
"I am not," he denied immediately, though the way his foot tapped to the music betrayed him.
Y/N smirked, scooting closer. "It’s okay, you can admit it."
Oscar sighed dramatically. "Fine. It’s slightly entertaining."
"Aha! I knew it!"
She leaned up, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek. "Maybe next time, you’ll actually pick a Bollywood movie yourself."
"Let’s not get ahead of ourselves," Oscar muttered, though his cheeks were pink now too.
They spent the rest of the movie in comfortable silence, save for Y/N’s occasional giggles and Oscar’s inevitable complaints. But when the credits rolled and Y/N stretched, ready to turn the TV off, she felt a pair of arms tighten around her waist.
"Five more minutes, let’s watch the final song,” Oscar mumbled into her hair.
Y/N smiled. "You like cuddling more than watching the movie, don’t you?"
"Maybe."
"That, I’ll allow," she whispered, settling against him once more.
As the grand finale song played, Oscar let out a long sigh, rubbing his temples.
"I don’t know how I just sat through two and a half hours of absolute madness,” he grumbled. "They danced their way into a vault, Y/N. A vault!"
Y/N, completely unbothered, swayed along to the music. "And they looked fabulous while doing it."
Oscar turned to her, suddenly dramatic. "You know what? Maybe I’ve been looking at this all wrong. Maybe I need to embrace the bollywoodness of it all."
Y/N raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And how do you plan on doing that?"
He dramatically placed a hand on his heart, took a deep breath, and, with all the seriousness he could muster, attempted a line he had definitely not practiced enough.
“Pyaar… dosti hai, Y/N. Aur agar woh… sabse… accha dost nahi ban… sak—wait, what’s the word?"
Y/N blinked. "Ban sakta?"
"Yeah, that. Ban sakta… toh main usko… kabhi love nahi kar sakta!”
There was a beat of silence.
Then Y/N burst out laughing. "That was the most accented Bollywood line I’ve ever heard!”
Oscar groaned. "Oi, cut me some slack! Hindi is hard!"
"It is," Y/N giggled, still shaking her head. "But you get points for effort."
Oscar leaned back into the couch, shaking his head. "I swear, your movies make it sound so easy. Everyone's just casually breaking into song, dropping poetic love lines, hacking government servers with a budget laptop—"
"That’s the magic of it."
He turned to look at her, her face still lit up from laughing, her eyes sparkling as she hummed along to the credits song.
Oscar sighed, shaking his head. "You know what? Maybe I should start watching more of these. Get my Hindi right. Who knows, I might actually end up enjoying one of them."
Y/N gasped. "Wait—are you saying you’ll finally watch ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ with me?"
Oscar groaned. "I walked right into that, didn’t I?"
"Absolutely."
He sighed, but there was a small smile tugging at his lips as he pulled her closer. "Fine. But I’m allowed to complain."
"You always do."
Oscar rolled his eyes. "Fair."
And as the music played on, he had to admit—maybe Bollywood wasn't all bad, especially if he had her next to him singing along to all the songs.
my first request!! i was so geeked about this lol. also im sorry if you haven’t watched happy new year but it is unfortunately one of my favourites so go watch it rn its so stupidly good haha <4

what are your favorite movies of all time?
also just noticed your name. incredible. my middle name is amber. solid name.
Unlike how I'm with books I'm like quite stingy with my movie ratings. Idk I mostly forget about them if they don't become a core memory 😭
I'm warning you rn this post is going to be a bit long bc I love yapping about things I like
Amber is actually not my real name 😭. I've just been using it online forever bc I don't feel like sharing my real name online. It's really pretty though. Whoever named you had taste
English:
1. 10 things I hate about you: I've only watched it once lol but it's so fun and all the characters are so fun. Ofc the main characters but also the background ones like that counselor lady
2. Do Revenge: hot women trying to destroy each other need I say more
3. The Spiderverse series: It's so well animated and just I love the characters from the second book
Bollywood:
I generally watch bollywood so most of my faves are bollywood films. These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head
1. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham:
This is my favourite movie ever. I've watched it so many times, I've basically memorized all the dialogue It checks all the boxes. I would definitely recommend this movie it's on Netflix i think
Family drama ✅ (it basically invented this)
Romance ✅
Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor being a power couple ✅
Resolving some of the drama in a random mall. ✅ (Like they were standing in the middle of the mall sobbing actually. Like imagine you are just going about your business and these random people are holding each other and sobbing)
Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor being a power couple ✅
Comedy ✅
iconic soundtrack (10/10 no notes) ✅ (the lala la la lalala lalala lives rent free in my mind)
2. Rang De Basanti
Fundamentally changed me. I've never cried harder in a movie and idk it just hit so hard. It's a movie inside of a movie. This girl is making a film about a few freedom fighters and recruits her friends as the actors and ultimately it bleeds into their real life affecting them in insane ways.
Also banger soundtrack and excellent acting. The character arcs were so good too. It's also on Netflix I'm pretty sure
3. Chak De India
This is like the first movie i remember watching ever. Again a great sound track and the lead actor (SRK) was great in this movie. It's a hockey film and like just so insanely good. Women trying to earn their place in the world of international sports and trying to make a name for themselves though they are underfunded and underappreciated. It's just so inspiring and I love it
4. Lagaan
Another sports film, this one is about cricket. It is like 4 hours long. It's also about the freedom struggle of India. This one is definitely heavy to watch but it's so good and I love it so much. Brings out the British hater in me though
5. 3 idiots
My love my beloved my fave actually over even k3g perhaps. I forgot to add this one when I first answered this but I refused to watch this movie for the longest time bc I all i remembered from it was a scene about suicide and I re watched it a few years ago (on my cousin's insistence) and it just hit so hard and deeply. I think it's bc I'm at the stage of my life where I'm facing the same issues as the protagonists, it just makes me feel understood. It's about the education system and its evils and I love hating on the education system
Honourable Mentions:
1. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
This is only on this list bc of the sound track. Like not a single song missed. I do hate all the characters though 😭.
2. Rocky and Rani ki Prem Kahani
Ithe acting was great also feminism we love see it. It was a bit cringe though. Definitely re watchable. Also like the two references they made to k3g drove me insane actually. I was foaming at the mouth
#now i have to go listen to all these songs all over again#thankss for the askk#3 of my top 5 hindi films staring Aamir khan is crazy

In English they say "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive." But in Bollywood we say.....
Rag rag woh samaya mere... Dil par woh chhaya mere.... 🩺🫀
Mujhme vo aise jaise jaan.... Gire barsaat me paani jaise.... ☔✨
Koi kahaani jaise dil se ho dil tak jo bayaan... Aashiq dil tera puraana hai ye 👩🏻❤️👨🏻👴🏻
Deewana Deewana samjhe na ho 😮💨
Kabhi chup chup rahe.... Kabhi gaaya ye kare... 🫣📣
Bin poochhe teri taarife sunaya yeh kare... Hai koi haqiqat tu ya koi fasana hai.... 🧠🫀
Kuch jaane agar to itna ke.... Yeh tera deewana hai.... Re mann mera, mane na mann mera.... 💫🦸🏻♂️👸🏻

Bablu Ji and Janaki Devi are power couple. Periodt! 👑

My 5 Favorite SRK Films
If you were stranded on a desert island with only five SRK movies, what would they be? I find it tough to narrow it down to just 5, but I'll give it a try...in no particular order.
These are not what I would consider his 'best' movies, just the ones I enjoy the most and can watch anytime.
1. Paheli

I love this enchanting tale of a woman who chooses a charming djinn over her workaholic husband. After watching so many movies where SRK gets beaten bloody by his beloved's father and brothers, it's a welcome change to see him play a happy husband. He and Rani are magic together...just thinking about this movie makes me want to watch it again.
2. Om Shanti Om

This was one of the first SRK movies I watched, and I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Didn't know a thing about Bollywood, but the industry jokes work just as well for Hollywood. Great musical numbers, SRK at peak gorgeousness in some hilariously hideous outfits, one of those movies that's just tremendous fun.
3. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

I know this one won't make many Top 5 lists, but it's one of my absolute favorites. Maybe because I've been in the position of a couple of the characters myself (though I never had an impossibly gorgeous guy show up to save me). Most people think Dev is a jerk, but he and I are a perfect match. I could watch the last scene at the train station every day and never get tired of it.
4. Pathaan

A Mission: Impossible-style mcguffin chase, a gorgeous fem fatale, action sequences that are off the hook in the very best way, and the unrivaled star power of Shah Rukh Khan on full display. What's not to like?
4. Happy New Year

I was very tempted to put Devdas in at Number 5, but if I'm on a desert island I'd probably want something fun instead of depressing. And I think I've watched this one a few more times. One of the things I love about this movie is how the cast all look like they are having a great time. And then there's that SRK entry scene...*faints*
I just realized all these movies have SRK shirtless scenes. Can't imagine how that happened...😏

various lil headcanons for some of the muses!!
SUPERBALL:
was a theater kid in his school years. if he hadn't become a secret service agent or a bouncer, he would've loved to go into musical theater as a career! alas, life didn't turn out that way.
he is trans (ftm), mostly inspired by the line he canonically says in one of the games where he talks about having post-partum depression. seahorse dad!!
he is divorced (canon iirc), and his son lives with his mother — so Superball lives all alone. his son does come to visit on the weekends though! they don't have the closest relationship unfortunately. Superball loves his son more than anything, but he has to work a lot and has great difficulty with emotional expression (who would've guessed!), so it's hard for him to connect with his kid. he's trying his best though :(
WIGGLYTUFF:
technically, i guess you could say he's male, and typically defaults to he/him pronouns — but she doesn't necessarily mind she/her either, or really just about any pronouns in general. i don't think most Pokemon really care about gender like that. Wigglytuffs have a higher female rate than males though, and without any visible differences in sex characteristics i can see him being mistaken for female pretty frequently, and in which case i don't think he really cares at all lol. she'll just go with it. this is mostly in reference to whenever Wigglytuff is referred with she/her a few times in the games despite canonically being male, which was technically just a translation error but i'm just ROLLING WITH IT bc i can and i like projecting my bigenderisms onto characters
do Pokemon in the PMD universe get married?? i doubt it. but whatever the equivalent of marriage is in the PMD verse, he is that with Chatot pretty much. they're about as close as you can get to a married couple for Pokemon LOL. bonded for life <3
HOMURA:
a lesbian, i think mostly bc she only really has eyes for Madoka and Madoka only. even if she were to be shipped with another character besides Madoka, she'd probably go for another girl who REMINDS her of Madoka and project that image onto any potential partner (not that she's really looking to date anyway, that obviously is not her priority lol, and in fact avoids it completely)
JIGGY:
his gender is basically like. you know whenever Bugs Bunny dresses up as a girl? yeah it's like that. aka, usually seen as masculine by default, but give her any opportunity to dress up for some reason or another, and she'll gladly go full fem <3 aka another character i project my bigenderisms onto
since Jiggy is a character that's meant to be like a contrast to Johnny Bravo in a lot of ways, i had this thought: since Johnny used to be super skinny before he became buff, Jiggy on the other hand used to be fat before he became buff — which was a result of the pressures of being a celebrity. the Bollywood industry isn't very kind to plus-sized people unfortunately. because of this, Jiggy definitely has some body image issues to work through
he doesn't get much sleep due to how busy he always is with his career. has HUGE bags under his eyes as a result, which is the main reason why he wears the sunglasses all the time (which is ALSO another contrast to Johnny, who i HC to have very lively and expressive eyes, whereas Jiggy's is very dull and tired). he gets most of his rest through "power naps."
POPS:
used to serve in the Navy (or maybe some other branch of the military?), and has C-PTSD as a result. he has a pretty scary temper because of this! if angered or under enough stress, he can be prone to violent outbursts. his friend / coworker, Bobo, is usually there to keep him in check whenever this happens.
aroace — except he's old af so he doesn't actually know wtf "asexual" or "aromantic" means so he doesn't really use those terms or anything. he just simply isn't interested in romance or intimacy. never has been! but in his younger years, he did TRY, and just found the hard way that it wasn't for him.
in terms of MY version of Johnny at least, he probably already knows that Johnny is gay / likes men LOL. he has a bet with Bobo about it. by the time Johnny finally comes out to him he's just like "I KNEW IT. BOBO YOU OWE ME $10 YOU SON OF A BITCH I CALLED IT." also he is way too invested in Johnny's love life in general. biggest shipper of Johnny & Carl
SWANSEA:
ok listen. normally i love giving characters queer headcanons at any given opportunity. but Swansea? nah that man is FULLY CISHET bc i think it's funny. he's supportive of queer people of course, but moreso in the "i hate everybody equally" kind of way. if you come out to him he's just gonna be like, "i do NOT give a shit." or that meme that's like "bitch idgaf if you transgender, SWAB THE DECK!!"
#out of character (ooc)#headcanons: Agent Superball#headcanons: Guildmaster Wigglytuff#headcanons: Homura#headcanons: Jiggy#headcanons: Pops#headcanons: Swansea

There's something so strangely beautiful about platonic soulmates who express romance through their art. This duality, this ability to exist in two different worlds, one of romance in their performances and one of platonic friendship in their personal lives is such a beautiful paradox.
Before I found out about Tessa and Scott, the only pair I knew as a child growing in an Asian household was Kajol-Shah Rukh Khan. Plot twist! They weren't a romantic couple but were platonic partners. Here's a little bit about them before we dive into the fun thread (I don't know what they call 'threads' in Tumblr, I'm a twitter user trying to figure out Tumblr. lol)
Kajol and Shahrukh Khan, a pair synonymous with Bollywood royalty, first graced the silver screen together in 1993 with ‘Baazigar’. Over three decades (30 years), they have starred in seven films, each a testament to their electric chemistry and enduring appeal.
Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, Canada’s cherished ice dancers, began their journey together when she was just seven and he was nine. For 22 years, they glided across the ice carving stories of passion, precision, and grace. Their performances, including two Olympic gold medals, have not only won them accolades but have also captured the essence of a partnership that is both powerful and poetic.
You find your platonic soulmate squishable!

Dancing like, "I think I'm madly in love with you, I'll die for you" when they can't actually wait for it to end to laugh and say, ‘Isn’t it hilarious how everyone think we’re a couple?’

When you know that you and your bestie became that power couple who took figure skating to new heights/single handedly introduced Bollywood to the world. Ufff... when you know you bring people to their feet by maximizing that joint slay!

When you know that your nation literally calls you-all sweethearts and you had an entire nation believe that you are married when in reality she/he was your platonic bestie. Sorry hopeless romantics! I'm new to Scott and Tessa here because I'm not Canadian but trust me, every kid in the 2000s in South Asia grew up thinking that Kajol and Shah Rukh were married. It's so funny that even the costars (who are younger than them) of their last movie too thought that they were married when they were just children watching them on screen.

You find joy in trying to make people uncomfortable and confuse them by telling them, "We're not a couple!" for the millionth time because people refuse to believe that you're not in love with him/her. It was probably exhausting for them to answer that question, but I think a part of them enjoyed the mystery that their relationship created in the minds of people.

When you get a sweet little kiss from your bestie who is pretending to be your girlfriend.

Let's be goofy!

When you know that you still love him/her even after all those years and even though you don't perform together. Reunions are always sweet!

You are so annoying, but I love you!

For those who have no idea about Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol (especially if you aren't Asian), I would love to recommend 'My name is Khan' , Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and of course the iconic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
Bonus: For all the desi girls and boys who were fooled by them!

Imtiaz Khatri: Crafting Powerful Stories in Bollywood
Imtiaz Khatri has established himself as a prominent name in the Bollywood film industry, recognized for his steadfast dedication to producing films that are both high-quality and emotionally rich. With a focus on compelling narratives, relatable themes, and visually stunning cinematography, Khatri has carved a niche for himself as a producer who values storytelling above all else. His standout project, Hrudayantar, perfectly embodies his vision of creating films that strike a chord with audiences, offering a powerful blend of emotional depth and cinematic artistry. Through his work, Khatri continues to redefine what it means to be a producer, championing films that not only entertain but also leave a lasting impact on viewers.
The Impact of Hrudayantar on Imtiaz Khatri's Career
One of the crowning jewels in Imtiaz Khatri's career is his co-production of Hrudayantar—a poignant Marathi-language drama film directed by Vikram Phadnis. Released in 2017, Hrudayantar marked not only an impressive directorial debut for Phadnis, a celebrated Bollywood fashion designer, but also a defining moment in Khatri’s career as a producer. The film is a masterclass in emotional storytelling, tackling complex themes such as marital discord, family dynamics, and personal growth during crises.
The story centers around Shekhar and Samaira Joshi, a couple whose once-thriving marriage begins to unravel under the weight of career pressures, emotional neglect, and life’s inevitable challenges. Hrudayantar offers a profound exploration of how relationships are tested by time, ambition, and circumstances, capturing the essence of human vulnerability and resilience.
What sets this film apart is its ability to connect with audiences on a personal level. While mainstream Bollywood often focuses on grand narratives, Hrudayantar dives deep into the everyday struggles of a middle-class family, making the story accessible and relatable to viewers across cultures. Khatri’s involvement as a producer allowed the film to retain its core emotional depth while maintaining high production standards, ensuring it reached a wider audience while staying true to its roots.
In addition to its stellar performances by Subodh Bhave and Mukta Barve, Hrudayantar also brought together a talented behind-the-scenes team that helped bring the script to life in a way that felt both authentic and impactful. Khatri’s keen eye for quality storytelling ensured that the film was not just another family drama, but an artful exploration of love, sacrifice, and self-discovery. His commitment to selecting projects with meaningful narratives reflects his dedication to nurturing films that don’t just entertain, but also leave an emotional imprint on audiences.
As Khatri continued to support films that tackle social and emotional issues, Hrudayantar became a milestone in his journey, establishing him as a producer with a unique vision. The film’s success, both critically and commercially, propelled him to the forefront of the Bollywood production industry, earning him recognition as a driving force behind meaningful, high-quality cinema in India. It wasn’t just a project for Khatri—it was a heartfelt contribution to Indian cinema, demonstrating that entertainment can be both artistically rewarding and emotionally resonant.
A Story of Complex Relationships: Hrudayantar's Emotional Core
Hrudayantar centers on the relationship between Shekhar and Samaira Joshi, played by Subodh Bhave and Mukta Barve, respectively. Shekhar, a workaholic hotelier, grapples with balancing his career and his failing marriage. Meanwhile, Samaira, a devoted mother, is faced with the challenge of maintaining her family while supporting Shekhar’s ambitions. The film delves into the emotional toll such imbalances take on their relationship and family, particularly affecting their two daughters, Nitya and Nysha, who represent the innocence and hope that holds the family together.
What sets Hrudayantar apart from typical family dramas is its ability to dive into the intricacies of love, emotional neglect, and the need for human connection in a way that feels deeply authentic. The film speaks to a universal truth—how often relationships, despite the best of intentions, begin to crumble when people fail to prioritize emotional bonds over material achievements.
A Stellar Cast and Powerful Performances
The film features remarkable performances, particularly from the lead actors, Subodh Bhave and Mukta Barve, who bring depth and vulnerability to their characters. Bhave’s portrayal of Shekhar reflects the inner turmoil of a man torn between personal success and family, while Barve’s portrayal of Samaira adds emotional strength and resilience to the storyline. The performances of the two young actresses, Trushnika Shinde and Nishtha Vaidya, as the daughters, are equally noteworthy, adding an innocent but poignant dimension to the family’s journey.
The Film’s Star Power and Guest Appearances
Aside from the powerful performances of the lead cast, Hrudayantar benefits from a few star-studded cameos that elevate the film. Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan appears in a special cameo, bringing added excitement to the film. Alongside him, renowned choreographer Shiamak Davar and popular TV host Manish Paul also make brief appearances, which not only add a sense of fun to the film but also create a strong connection with the larger entertainment industry.

Imtiaz Khatri’s role as a producer was integral to Hrudayantar's success. His keen eye for quality cinema ensured that the film maintained a perfect balance between commercial appeal and emotional depth. Through his production company, Khatri has continued to support films that tackle complex human emotions while ensuring that the production quality stands out.
Khatri's involvement in Hrudayantar showcased his understanding of the evolving film industry and his desire to be part of projects that challenge conventional filmmaking. I did this last time and it got a couple notes, so why not again? Here's my ranking for all the shorts from Star Wars Visions: Volume 2.
Screecher's Reach - holy shit. Holy shit. I knew I would like this one going in because Cartoon Saloon owns my ass, but I never thought I'd see animated Star Wars horror. This one was genuinely creepy and seeing such a poor character fall victim to the lies of the Sith was heartbreaking, and unique for Star Wars content. I loved this short.
Aau's Song - I know the phrase "Ghibli-esque" gets thrown around annoyingly often, but I feel like it actually applies here. The gorgeous natural vistas, the emphasis on the nobility of simple work, a loving family dynamic, the power of a child and the magic of love, it's all here. The character designs are lovely, the music is moving, and I love the vocal performances too. This one is really close to the #1 spot.
The Spy Dancer - I somehow forgot that Studio La Cachette has been responsible for some of the most astounding animation of the past couple years, but oh my god did this short make me remember. Not only is the animation gorgeous, but the characters are so vividly portrayed in such a short amount of time, and it weaves a compelling story completely separate from the lore of the Jedi and the Sith. I'd love more Star Wars content like this.
Sith - the visuals of the painted world in this one are maybe some of the most out-there, artistically, in this whole bunch, and I appreciate such a strong vision. I feel like tumblr is gonna have the hots for our former-Sith protagonist, but I'm always a sucker for droids who are Just a Little Guy.
In the Stars - I love Lilo & Stitch in space. The visuals walk the line where I'm not 100% convinced whether they were cgi or stop-motion, but either way they're extremely impressive. I personally don't vibe with the character archetype that Kichina embodies, but I like her dynamic with Koten, and the arc they go through is pretty rock-solid.
The Bandits of Golak - I have mixed feelings about this one. I like the clear Clone Wars influence in the character designs, and the action staging is pretty great. I also love the sheer Bollywood energy that the Inquisitor brings; I'd love to see more Star Wars villains with this kind of energy instead of more blandly evil bureaucrats. That said, the character models are kind of stiff (especially in the human faces), and Rani is just... so annoying. Chanuk is a good boy, though.
I Am Your Mother - I'm kind of shocked that Aardman even decided to do a short for this volume, but I'm not complaining. When you get Aardman on board you expect a certain tone, and this doesn't disappoint. It's not nearly as funny as Aardman's best work, but it's still a good time and a nice balance with the darker shorts like Screecher's Reach.
The Pit - I really respect this studio and it's unique circumstances, but I feel like this short was missing something. Putting aside the animation, which looked great in still shots but didn't move super well, I feel like this short has nothing that ties it to Star Wars. The stormtroopers could have been any evil army, the kyber crystals could have just been gold or diamonds, the pit itself could have just been on Earth. This short has a good story to tell, but it makes absolutely zero relevant use of Star Wars lore.
Journey to the Dark Head - I'm sad to put the Studio Mir short on the bottom, but here we are. Mir still delivers on some astounding individual cuts of animation that live up to their lauded work on The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender, but I feel like overall the direction of this short was a little chaotic and confused, and the thrills didn't last for more than a few moments each. Moreover, the plot barely made any sense, and failed to sell a convincing story even using a longer runtime than any other short this volume. And I'm sorry, Eugene Lee Yang; I'm happy to see you here, but it just wasn't a very good performance.

Sception Reads Cass Cain #19
Batgirl (2000) Annual #1 Writer: Scott Peterson Pencils: Mike Deodato
The Main Batgirl solo is again left at a cliffhanger mid-arc while we look at a side issue. Maybe I should have done episodes 4-6 back to back, out of chronological order? But I've had a lot to say about issues 4 and 5, so the little breaks looking at side issues I don't have as much to say about has been a nice change of pace to buy breathing room. This time we're meeting a character named Aruna? I don't think I remember her at all. These sorts of annuals are sometimes used to have a popular established character help launch a new IP that will continue in another book. If that's what was happening here, then it's a nice show of confidence in Cass from editorial. And we've got Scott Peterson writing, so that's good, but we've seen Deodato draw Cass once before, and it, uh...
Oh.
Oh, no.
...
Honestly, it's not all that bad. Most of it's fine. Much better than the last time he was drawing Cass. There are even some panels of Cass that I really like, like this one:
But man, those first couple pages are rough.
Anyway, yeah, while this is a 'Batgirl Annual', it exists to introduce Aruna Shende, as part of a 'DC World' thing going on at the time introducing some new international heroes and I guess seeing who sticks. Aruna is a shapeshifter with a stunt person/special effects artist alter-ego working in the Bollywood film industry while investigating the disappearance of her parents when she was a child. Bruce & Cass bump into Aruna while looking into the kidnapping of the lead actor in a film she was working on and they have a little adventure together. Aftter that there's an extended character backstory segment just for Aruna with no bats at all.
It's pretty solid. I like how Cass is able to identify Aruna when she's using her abilities to disguise herself. This is still silent Cass, but she's fairly active and expressive in the part of the issue where she's present.
As for Aruna, she's an interesting character, with a solid backstory, and its honestly a shame DC never really did anything with her after that.
There is one bit that stuck out to me though relating Aruna's story to Cass...
After her parents were taken by mysterious suited agents, Aruna was left as an orphan, living on her own on the street, forced basically to grow up that way while also growing into her powers and using them to take care of herself.
Which is very similar to how Cass lived on her own after running away from David at age 8, basically until she met Barbara during No Mans Land when she was like 16 or 17. During that entire time Cass survived on the streets, on her own, without even the ability to speak, relying on her abilities to survive.
That's a part of her life that, as far as I can remember, the old continuity never really explored outside of this one flashback with Mr. Merc from issue 1. What was life like for her? Did she form connections with anyone? She's seen the world from this abject state of poverty, seen people around her desperate to survive, presumably saw people supporting each other and tearing each other down... she was living on the streets at least as long as she was living with David Cain, it should be a big part of her world view, so much formative stuff should have happened during that period. Really meeting and spending time with people other than her father for the first time. her first crush, probably. realizing how different she was, and what her father's training had really cost her in terms of the ability to communicate and connect with other people. How does growing up in abject poverty color what she thinks about her fabulously wealthy life when she is eventually invited into the Wayne household?
And not something modern writers can really go back and fill in, since, from my limited understanding, in the reboot continuity she goes pretty much straight from assassin life to bat life without this in between period.
