6. three songs you wish you could erase from history (because they’re terrible): im v bad at remembering stuff i like in the first place afsh apologies for the cop out but im pretty sure ive either never disliked a song sm to wish its inexistence, and if i did, certainly dont remember it anymore
21. three songs of your childhood: a little difficult a little fun! ill say aashiyan from barfi, half bcs this album and all its songs r still my favorite years later (movie too!!) and half bcs i have way too nice memories of performing this song as a kid at an event at dad's work and getting complimented a lot (it was aided tho, im sure, by my front teeth missing). second would be ae mere zohra jabeen, a veeery old classic bollywood song, and v much beloved to me both when i was tiny and straining to catch my ma's radio during hw and now when i can add it to all my playlists. third!! raabta by shreya ghoshal, a song that annoys me a lot now simply bcs ive heard it >2000 times bcs it was such a (deserved) rage when it came out for a few yrs
24. three favourite old songs: tere naam! by alka yagnik (listened to a newish cover, fell in love, found its original version, fell sm in love!!) id again mention ae mere zohra jabeen by manna dey bcs i never get over how sweet and cute of an old song it is. third, kaheen dur jab din dhal jaye, movie anand bcs heyy its lyrics, i really love whats it abt!!
im not surprised its just wholly old bollywood bcs thats what majority of kids in india grow up on, either by their parents love for it, or being a kid in the era itself. plus! i could never rec old bollywood enough, its either so catchy that u cheer the love its talking abt, or so poetic that u..cheer the love its talking abt, half of the time managing to be both. not to mention the iconic voices with legions of songs to their names. thank u for asking, i had sm fun!!!

"Ye kya jagah hai dosto, ye kaun sa dayaar hai
Had-e-nigaah tak jahaan, gubaar hi gubaar hai"
Remembering Khayyam, the great composer of serene and sublime melodies, on his 4th death anniversary (19/08/19). Celebrating the musical journey of Khayyam, the maestro who left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. From his early days in Lahore, mentored by Baba Chishti, to his iconic contributions in Bollywood, his journey is awe-inspiring. Films like 'Heer Ranjha', 'Biwi', 'Shola Aur Shabnam', and 'Aakhri Khat' showcased his genius early on. His collaboration with poets, especially Sahir Ludhianvi, gave us masterpieces in 'Kabhi Kabhie' and 'Phir Subha Hogi'.
The 1981 classic 'Umrao Jaan' stands as a testament to his brilliance, with songs like "In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke" becoming evergreen hits. His work in 'Razia Sultan', especially "Aye Dil-e-Nadan", is considered a milestone. Khayyam's music, a blend of ghazals and Indian classical, was always rich in poetry and emotion. His generosity shone bright when he donated his entire wealth to support budding artists. A true maestro, his legacy will forever resonate in the corridors of Indian music

Kaalia: The "Angry Young Man"
Let's talk about Tinnu Anand's Kaalia.
Tumblr media
Released in 1981, the plot revolves around Kaalia, who is jailed after robbing his brother's employer. Leaving prison more hardened than before, Kaalia seeks revenge against the employer for ultimately causing his brother's death.
Tumblr media
This movie is quintessential old Bollywood, following the classic tropes present in that time period (wealthy evil villain, damsel in distress, hero you root for). Kaalia also balances the elements of the Bollywood formula (action + comedy + romance) without any sort of overexaggeration.
Tumblr media
Kaalia is filled with a casting list that is instantly recognizable to any longtime consumer of Bollywood classics: Amitabh Bachchan, Parveen Babi, Amjad Khan, and Pran. In their time, the first two actors were famous for playing protagonists, while the latter two always played villain roles (although in Kaalia, Pran plays a good guy. Scary, but ultimately good.)
Tumblr media
The music, composed by R.D. Burman, is filled with many evergreen songs sung by legends like Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, and Mohammed Rafi. Here are three for your listening pleasure:
Kaun Kisi Ko Baandh Saka
Jahan Teri Yeh Nazar Hai
Jab Se Tumko Dekha
The movie is 165 minutes long. Stream it on YouTube here with some popcorn and enjoy!

It’s been a while since I’ve last shared my fav Bollywood moments and it’s an evergreen on repeat! Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte does the job of both going through the decades of Bollywood styles, which is very informative, and also having Rani Mukherjee in it. This song can do no wrong.
