2, 6,21 and 24 for the ask game 😇
hihi! 2. three last songs you listened to: ik bagal, by piyush mishra, a song ive recently been obsessed with (could only find the eng trans from a vid thats also a cover here), koi by gen hoshino(!!) and cobalt by mob choir
6. three songs you wish you could erase from history (because they’re terrible): im v bad at remembering stuff i like in the first place afsh apologies for the cop out but im pretty sure ive either never disliked a song sm to wish its inexistence, and if i did, certainly dont remember it anymore
21. three songs of your childhood: a little difficult a little fun! ill say aashiyan from barfi, half bcs this album and all its songs r still my favorite years later (movie too!!) and half bcs i have way too nice memories of performing this song as a kid at an event at dad's work and getting complimented a lot (it was aided tho, im sure, by my front teeth missing). second would be ae mere zohra jabeen, a veeery old classic bollywood song, and v much beloved to me both when i was tiny and straining to catch my ma's radio during hw and now when i can add it to all my playlists. third!! raabta by shreya ghoshal, a song that annoys me a lot now simply bcs ive heard it >2000 times bcs it was such a (deserved) rage when it came out for a few yrs
24. three favourite old songs: tere naam! by alka yagnik (listened to a newish cover, fell in love, found its original version, fell sm in love!!) id again mention ae mere zohra jabeen by manna dey bcs i never get over how sweet and cute of an old song it is. third, kaheen dur jab din dhal jaye, movie anand bcs heyy its lyrics, i really love whats it abt!!
im not surprised its just wholly old bollywood bcs thats what majority of kids in india grow up on, either by their parents love for it, or being a kid in the era itself. plus! i could never rec old bollywood enough, its either so catchy that u cheer the love its talking abt, or so poetic that u..cheer the love its talking abt, half of the time managing to be both. not to mention the iconic voices with legions of songs to their names. thank u for asking, i had sm fun!!!
#...i think you may have pressed on a hyperfixation↓ apologies#linked ik bagal's eng translations bcs god i love when songwriters r poets#im always thinking abt fan-translating these songs i love but now i might just end up doing it. i wish rest of the songs had eng trans too#everyone who loves old bollywood loves it bcs of how deep of a sway it has through language! like songs r fun bcs of production voices etc#and evergreen has them! but its foremostly how well of language usage there is in songs. the era would literally be always known as golden#its v much like urdu gazhals and qawalli. good old hindi songs were literally just songs made out of poetry and thats always so cool for#any and every language. i love when songs r love letters to their languages!!! ANYWAYS thank u for listening#i rambled sm for an ask game forgive!!!!#✉️:

"Ye kya jagah hai dosto, ye kaun sa dayaar hai
Had-e-nigaah tak jahaan, gubaar hi gubaar hai"
Remembering Khayyam, the great composer of serene and sublime melodies, on his 4th death anniversary (19/08/19). Celebrating the musical journey of Khayyam, the maestro who left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. From his early days in Lahore, mentored by Baba Chishti, to his iconic contributions in Bollywood, his journey is awe-inspiring. Films like 'Heer Ranjha', 'Biwi', 'Shola Aur Shabnam', and 'Aakhri Khat' showcased his genius early on. His collaboration with poets, especially Sahir Ludhianvi, gave us masterpieces in 'Kabhi Kabhie' and 'Phir Subha Hogi'.
The 1981 classic 'Umrao Jaan' stands as a testament to his brilliance, with songs like "In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke" becoming evergreen hits. His work in 'Razia Sultan', especially "Aye Dil-e-Nadan", is considered a milestone. Khayyam's music, a blend of ghazals and Indian classical, was always rich in poetry and emotion. His generosity shone bright when he donated his entire wealth to support budding artists. A true maestro, his legacy will forever resonate in the corridors of Indian music

Kaalia: The "Angry Young Man"
Let's talk about Tinnu Anand's Kaalia.
Released in 1981, the plot revolves around Kaalia, who is jailed after robbing his brother's employer. Leaving prison more hardened than before, Kaalia seeks revenge against the employer for ultimately causing his brother's death.
This movie is quintessential old Bollywood, following the classic tropes present in that time period (wealthy evil villain, damsel in distress, hero you root for). Kaalia also balances the elements of the Bollywood formula (action + comedy + romance) without any sort of overexaggeration.
Kaalia is filled with a casting list that is instantly recognizable to any longtime consumer of Bollywood classics: Amitabh Bachchan, Parveen Babi, Amjad Khan, and Pran. In their time, the first two actors were famous for playing protagonists, while the latter two always played villain roles (although in Kaalia, Pran plays a good guy. Scary, but ultimately good.)
The music, composed by R.D. Burman, is filled with many evergreen songs sung by legends like Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, and Mohammed Rafi. Here are three for your listening pleasure:
Kaun Kisi Ko Baandh Saka
Jahan Teri Yeh Nazar Hai
Jab Se Tumko Dekha
The movie is 165 minutes long. Stream it on YouTube here with some popcorn and enjoy!

It’s been a while since I’ve last shared my fav Bollywood moments and it’s an evergreen on repeat! Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte does the job of both going through the decades of Bollywood styles, which is very informative, and also having Rani Mukherjee in it. This song can do no wrong.

The Soulful Voice of Mohit Chauhan: A Journey Through His Music
Mohit Chauhan, a name synonymous with soulful music, has carved a unique niche in the Indian music industry. Renowned for his velvety voice and the emotional depth he brings to his songs, Chauhan has become a household name. From his indie-pop beginnings with the band Silk Route to his unforgettable Bollywood hits, Mohit Chauhan’s journey is one of passion, perseverance, and musical brilliance. His ability to touch hearts with songs like “Tum Se Hi” and “Phir Se Ud Chala” has made him an iconic figure in modern Indian music. This article delves into his incredible journey, showcasing how Mohit Chauhan became one of the most beloved singers of our time.
1. Early Life and Inspiration
Born and raised in the picturesque state of Himachal Pradesh, Mohit Chauhan’s formative years were spent surrounded by the natural beauty of the mountains. The serene environment of the hills not only nurtured his love for music but also significantly influenced his style. Although he initially pursued a degree in Geology, music remained his true calling. Inspired by classic artists like Kishore Kumar and Western legends such as Jim Morrison, Chauhan began experimenting with his vocal abilities and musical compositions during his college days.
His love for storytelling through music set him apart, even as he began his musical career. Drawing from the folk traditions of Himachal Pradesh and blending them with contemporary sounds, Mohit Chauhan created a style that was distinctly his own.
2. The Rise of Silk Route
Chauhan’s big break came with the formation of his band Silk Route in the mid-1990s. The band’s debut album, Boondein, was a groundbreaking success, with its hit track “Dooba Dooba” becoming an instant sensation. The song, known for its soothing melody and innovative underwater-themed music video, captured the hearts of millions and remains an evergreen classic.
Silk Route’s music was a refreshing departure from the Bollywood-dominated landscape of the time. It brought indie-pop into the limelight, paving the way for future artists. The band’s music was infused with poetic lyrics, acoustic melodies, and a sense of tranquility that resonated deeply with the audience.
However, as Silk Route’s journey slowed, Mohit Chauhan decided to embark on a solo career, a decision that would propel him to greater heights.
3. Transition to Bollywood Stardom
Mohit Chauhan’s Bollywood journey began with the song “Khoon Chala” from Rang De Basanti (2006), composed by A.R. Rahman. While this song marked his entry into playback singing, it was “Tum Se Hi” from Jab We Met (2007) that catapulted him to fame. The song, composed by Pritam, became an anthem of love and cemented Mohit’s place in the industry.
Following this, Chauhan delivered a string of hits that showcased his versatility. Tracks like “Masakali” from Delhi-6, “Pee Loon” from Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, and “Phir Se Ud Chala” from Rockstar highlighted his ability to adapt to different moods and styles.
His collaboration with A.R. Rahman for Rockstar remains one of the most celebrated partnerships in Bollywood music history. Songs like “Jo Bhi Main” and “Nadaan Parindey” won critical acclaim and awards, solidifying his reputation as one of the finest playback singers of his generation.
4. Style and Impact
Mohit Chauhan’s singing style is characterized by its simplicity and emotional depth. He has an uncanny ability to bring life to lyrics, making listeners feel the emotions behind every word. His unique voice, often described as smooth and soothing, is versatile enough to handle romantic ballads, soulful melodies, and even peppy tracks.
One of the standout qualities of Mohit’s music is his attention to the mood of the song. Whether it’s the melancholic longing in “Kun Faya Kun” or the playful energy of “Masakali,” he perfectly captures the essence of the composition.
Beyond his technical prowess, Mohit Chauhan’s music has had a profound cultural impact. His songs have become the soundtrack of countless love stories, celebrations, and moments of introspection for fans worldwide.
5. Awards and Recognition
Mohit Chauhan’s contribution to the music industry has been widely recognized. He has received numerous awards, including Filmfare and Zee Cine Awards for his work in Bollywood. His soulful rendition of “Tum Ho” from Rockstar earned him accolades, including the Best Playback Singer award at several prestigious ceremonies.
In addition to industry awards, Mohit has earned the love and respect of millions of fans who regard his music as a source of comfort and inspiration. His songs continue to enjoy immense popularity on streaming platforms and live performances alike.
Conclusion: Mohit Chauhan’s journey from a small-town boy in Himachal Pradesh to one of India’s most cherished playback singers is nothing short of inspiring. His dedication to his craft, coupled with his innate ability to connect with listeners, has made him a legend in his own right. From the soothing melodies of “Dooba Dooba” to the heartfelt notes of “Tum Se Hi,” Mohit Chauhan’s music has become a companion to many through life’s highs and lows.
As a singer who has stayed true to his artistic roots while evolving with time, Mohit Chauhan continues to be a beacon of hope for aspiring musicians. His voice is not just a medium for entertainment — it’s an experience, a journey into the depths of human emotion.
