A little bit about me — Tag game! This was pleasantly surprising and fun. Thank you @hydriotaphia!
Last Song: Madonna's Express Yourself was randomly queued in the mix from earlier. Nice.
Fav Colour: ORANGE! Very partial to orange. I love warm tones.
Currently Watching: I just started Bob's Burgers — it is amusing, my tummy pays for it. Also (very slowly) catching up on PBS Storied's Monstrum series over on Youtube.
Last Movie: I want to say Northanger Abbey because I've watched it 5-6 times this past month but no. I think someone put Wanted on? It was perfect.
Currently Reading: None at the moment but Before the Fact (Francis Iles) is next on my reading list.
Sweet/Savoury/Spicy: Savoury! Salivating just thinking about the chicken feet dish I had a few days ago.
Relationship Status: —
Current Obsession: (See: last movie). Northanger Abbey! And I hooked my family into watching with me. Sis plans on borrowing my book. 😈
My Vincenzo, Kanej, and Kathony tags are still quite active, so them also (still <3) aha. BUT queer fic-wise, @wall-e-nelson's stripes, sospes' Oils on Canvas, and Nel's @grantairesbottle statistically impossible.
Last Google: Macro programming in Excel. Lol.
Currently Working on: Does decorating the house with Christmas cheer count as a project? I think it should be. New custom wreath!
Current Game: Tekken on my phone.
💌 If you'd like to play — tag, @nire-the-mithridatist @cactusfinch @penny-loaf @heedoscourage @andremichaux @maggieoconnell @wurzelbertzwerg @nnschneider @grantairesbottle @wall-e-nelson

Someone inquired about Tekken imagines, so I’ve been watching the cutscenes. I’m still not got up but here are my notes so far:
Heihachi has issues
Kazuya has issues.
Jin has issues.
3 generations of family need severe therapy.
There are apparently several people with cat masks who roar and are somehow understood. They have a soap opera “my twin brother” moment.
You can play as a Panda.
You can play as a Bear.
You have several options to play as a high-school age girl who goes around kicking ass, it just depends on which variant you want.
Bob.
Paul.
Silver-haired man is neat.
Several characters are down to get into world tournaments for cash while there is a literal war for world domination going on.
Nina and what’s her face could also stand to go to family counseling.
Miguel owns my entire heart as the only Spaniard character in a Japanese videogame that has an actual Castilian accent.
Also, Miguel could get it.
There is a Sumo wrestler.
Apparently??? There’s demon genes? And Jin started a war to fight a devil when he could of??? TOLD THE REST OF THE WORLD AND MAYBE COORDINATE THIS CRAP SO THAT THEY CAUSE CHAOS WITHOUT KILLING AND CONQUERING COUNTRIES?! What is this plot?
The less I say about the Russian-esque character the better.
Reforestation rocks, Lara Croft with glasses said so.
Eddy deserves way better writing than what he got.
I will update in the future, but for now... wow this is a lot to process.

So, When Can We Tell The World? {2} Min Yoongi x black! fem! reader
Tumblr media
Parts: 1 2 3 4 5 6
Pairing: Yoongi x reader
Summary: Yoongi follows you to your room, bringing up his proposition about you going public again. You bite back, trying to hold back your emotions while you and Yoongi’s argument builds until you two get some unexpected  visitors.
Genre: Angst(lot’s of it in this chapter, my goodness), Fluff, Romance, Idol-verse, Smut(none in this chapter)
Word Count: 1, 850
Author’s Note: I’m glad you guys are enjoying this fic! Let me know if you have any BTS or EXO requests!
Shooky stares at me with that wide eyed, agape mouthed expression that only a BT21 plush can send. I stare at him (they’re genderless, but I call mine he) with that adorable smile and furrowed brows, he doesn’t remind me of Yoongi, yet in subtle ways he does. The way he get’s excited sometimes reminds me of how the tiny cookie like character bounces, and the way he smiles is just as endearing as well. The thoughts of Yoongi made me hold Shooky tighter against my chest. How could he not understand why going public would be a bad move? God, just thinking of what could happen makes my head spin.
“Hey, you all right?”
I tear my gaze away from Shooky and towards my bedroom door. Yoongi leans against it, hands stuffed into the pockets of his sweats as he gazes at me with a close eye.
I nod against Shooky and turn away from his piercing gaze.
“You don’t look it,” he says, “and why are you hugging on him so tight, you’ve got me remember?”
I scoff his mumbling while sitting up completely. He steps over to the bed, sitting so that there’s enough space between the both of us.
“Yeah, but Shooky never catches me off guard,” I say, “he just lets me hug him, he didn’t make me anxious.”
Yoongi sighs.
“I didn’t mean to make you feel that way,” he admits, “I just thought we should talk about being official.”
“You keep saying we,” I say, “but you still aren’t getting why I can’t do it!”
I rise, taking Shooky up with me as I start for my door, making Yoongi groan.
“Y/N, Y/N c’mon,” he groans, “talk to me, please?”
He grabs my elbow and I freeze, glancing over my shoulder to catch his saddened face. How can I resist it? No matter how fed up I am, I have to hear him out, we’ve got some time to talk things out we should do that.
“Ok,” I say, “I’m going to talk and you can’t say anything tell I’m finished, is that all right?”
Yoongi nods before reaching for my hand.
“What are you doing?” I giggle.
Yoongi shrugs.
“If Shooky can be in your arms, could I at least hold one hand?” he asks.
I roll my eyes and nod, tucking Shooky into the crook my arm before taking his hand. He leads me back to the bed, allowing us both to sit with enough space in between again. I let out a breath as Yoongi traces my knuckles with his thumb.
“Yoongi, I,” I pause, “I need you to understand that going public will bring up many issues.”
Yoongi purses his lips, conflict drawing up on his face, yet he honors my request and remains quiet.
“Sure, you love me, hell the boys do, which surprised the hell out of me!” I admit, “but the rest of the world won’t.”
“But it’s not their place to,” Yoongi murmurs, “we’re all that matters.”
I shake my head and squeeze Shooky tighter.
“It’s not that simple and you know it,” I growl, “I can’t believe I have to spell this shit out for you!”
“Then fucking do it!” he shouts, “you’re blowing this way out of proportion!”
I nearly squeeze the stuffing out of Shooky, my blood boiling at his accusation.
“Yoongi, I can’t fucking deal with this right now,” I whisper, “not when you’re acting dense right now.”
I get up and Yoongi is already up with me, grabbing my arm this time.
“Spell it out then!” he declares, “I want you to just talk to me!”
“I thought it was fucking obvious but apparently it wasn’t!” I snap, “I’m black that’s number one! Number two I’m not a God damn idol!”
Yoongi deflates a bit, but still reels on.
“You’re still a public figure,” he says, “and you shouldn’t give a damn about what they say, they’ll talk Y/N! Just like with Kai, Jennie and Chen it all blew over eventually.”
I bit down hard on my lip, trying to hold back the tears that start to form. My head bobs down in a feeble nod.
“Yeah it did,” I say, “but do you know the common denominators in their cases? They’re Korean Yoongi! you and me are different culturally. Your precious ARMY and the people and South Korea will make my life a living hell if we come out like this.”
The moment my words come out, Yoongi’s torn. He’s not holding back tears like me, but a combination of shock and disbelief.
“Is that really how you feel?” he asks, “do you really believe they’ll do that?”
I swallow hard, yet nod. He can’t sway me this time, I’m being realistic about this.
“Yes, I do,” I declare.
Yoongi shuts his eyes, finally allowing a wave of silence to wave over the both of us. I wait for his next words, yet they don’t come, thank God. I need to cool down, somewhere away from him. My feet move, bare feet padding against the carpet fast. Words disrupt it’s rhythm, coming out quick, low and rough. I turn on my heels just as fast to see Yoongi with his head in his hands.
“What was that?” I ask.
Yoongi shifts his head up and shakes his head.
“Nothing, just-”
“Yoongi,” I growl, “don’t start this.”
Yoongi purses his lips.
“Y/N-”
“I let you know what’s on my mind,” I say, “you should do the same for me.”
Yoongi scoffs.
“Ok, fine,” he grumbles, “you say you love me, but I’m having a hard time believing it now.”
The tears finally break from the dam, rushing down my cheeks freely. My hands shake, Shooky along with it as my vision blurs. Yoongi’s up, walking toward me.
“Y/N-”
“I can’t, just leave me alone!” I shout.
I throw Shooky at him, causing him to flinch as the plush hitting his chest catches him off guard.
“I didn’t mean it,” he says.
“Well then what the hell is it supposed to mean then Yoongi?” I ask.
He opens his mouth, closes it and tries again.
“I-”
He gets cut off as both of us jump at the sound of the doorbell ringing. My heart hammers against my chest, I don’t remember inviting anyone. My gaze goes to Yoongi who’s closer now.
“I-I invited the guys,” he says, “thought it’d be nice to all hang out.”
I manage to laugh through the tears.
“Of course you did.”
“I can tell them this isn’t a good time if-”
“No,” I say while wiping my tears, “I’m fine, I’ll let them in.”
I move out the room and down the stairs, Yoongi right on my heels, making me overwhelmed again.
“Y/N, let me,” he says.
“Yoongi, it’s my house-”
“I know, and I fucked up, just let me,” he mutters.
He’s talking and moving so fast that he’s already down the stairs and peering up at me.
“Fine,” I say, giving up.
Yoongi gives me a tiny grin.
“Stay right there! I’ll have the guys meet you here!” he says.
I stay and watch as he rushes over to the door, opening it quickly.
“Yoongi! hey!” Namjoon greets.
I can’t help but giggle as I make sure the tears are gone. The guys make more and more noise as I descend to meet up with them.
“Y/N!” Jungkook shouts.
“Hey Jung-”
My words are lost as he hugs me tightly, lifting me off the ground with ease.
“K-Kook, please,” I beg, “you’re squeezing me.”
Jungkook grins sweetly before putting me down.
“Sorry Y/N, I’m just so stoked!” he gushes, “we haven’t played Tekken in a year and I’m looking forward to showing you how much I’ve improved!”
I chuckle.
“You sure you can handle it?” I ask, “last time I beat you at a first to five you whined the entire day.”
Jungkook nods eagerly as Jimin throws an arm around his shoulder.
“Of course our golden maknae can,” Jimin says, “but I wouldn’t mind watching Y/N kick your ass again.”
“Ah! Y/N’s not kicking anyone’s ass until she’s eaten!” Jin scolds.
He’s holding a plastic bag with groceries in one arm, while RJ is tucked under his arm.
“Why’d you bring him?” I ask, pointing to RJ.
Jin grins.
“Well, I’m glad you asked,” he says, “he’s for you, you seem to have enough Shooky, and I thought you’d want to spice things up with a fluffy alpaca.”
“What’s wrong with Shooky?” Yoongi grumbles.
Our eyes meet for a moment. He offers a warm grin, one that I ignore for Jin’s gift.
“Thanks Jin, he’ll go great with Shooky,” I say, “Kook, set up the Xbox, we can start soon.”
Jungkook’s face brightens, nods and runs off to the living room.
“Where’s my hug?” Taehyung mumbles playfully.
“Mine too,” Hoseok mimics with a bright grin.
I only open my arms as Taehyung steps over eagerly with that boxy smile, along with Hobi. Jimin beats them both with a smug look, making both the members frown.
“Jimin! C’mon!” Taehyung groans.
“You got to be quicker than that!” Jimin notes.
He squeezes a bit, looking down at me with concern.
“Mh? Y/N, are you ok? You usually hug me right back,” he says.
I look over to Yoongi, our eyes meeting again prior to moving elsewhere.
“Nothing Chim,” I say, “I’m good, ok?”
Jimin’s concern stays, yet he doesn’t pry, which I’m thankful for. Taehyung however does.
“You sure?” he asks.
“Yeah,” I say, “guys, just, uh go help Jin in the kitchen.”
Jimin, Taehyung and Hoseok all stare blankly at me before at Yoongi, and then back at me.
“You heard the lady!” Jin calls from the kitchen.
They sigh and walk slowly away, leaving Yoongi, Namjoon and I.
“You guys doing ok?” Namjoon asks, “whenever I see the two of you, you’re attached to the hip.”
I glance at Yoongi from the corner of my eye, he’s still staring, like I’m supposed to answer that question. His silence doesn’t cease, forcing me to say something.
“We’re ok, just ah,” I pause to look at Yoongi.
“She told this really corny joke earlier,” Yoongi blurts, “wasn’t funny.”
Namjoon raises an eyebrow, opening his mouth to answer.
“Jo-”
“Oh I’ve got better ones!” Jin calls.
Namjoon sighs.
“No hyung, just, keep them in the kitchen please,” he groans.
“How about you get your ass in here to help and maybe I will!” Jin counters.
Namjoon rolls his eyes.
“Fine” he says, “for Y/N’s sake.”
I mouth a thank you as he squeezes my shoulder.
Yoongi and I stand alone in the front part of the living room, the painstaking silence swallow us yet again.
“Y/N, I’m-”
Yoongi gets cut off by Jungkook.
“Y/N! Hurry before I lose this combo!” he shouts.
“Kook wants me,” I say, “what were you?”
Yoongi shakes his head, closing the distance between us.
“It’s nothing,” he says, “kick his ass for me.”
Yoongi kisses my forehead and cheeks prior to leaving me standing in the living room in utter confusion.

beginner Mishima lesson: HOWTO wavedash
ordell said: Any tips on wavedashing
ordell said: With Kaz
alexr-fightgames said: Yes! Many tips! Do you want tips on *how* to wd, or how to use wd offense?
ordell said: How to. Imma marauder kaz main.
Because I’m arguably the greatest Tekken educator on my block, here’s how to wavedash! Get ready for a big wall of text!
If you don’t want a wall of text, maybe just watch the tutorial video from TheMainManSWE: it’s quite good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDycsZYw56o
A wavedash in Tekken is doing a crouchdash, cancelling that into a forward dash, and then canceling your forward dash into *another* crouchdash, and so on. Most characters can’t do it. The ones that *can* are the ones with a Mishima-style crouchdash *and* the ability to transition from that crouchdash into a forward dash. So in T7, that’s Kaz, Hei, D.Jin, Jin, Bob and Hwoarang. In principle, King can also wavedash, but his is super difficult and you almost never see it.
So how you do it in practice. Instead of doing just “forward (neutral) down, down/forward”, for your crouchdash, do “f, qcf”. You should still get a crouchdash. It’ll look the same. Try it out, I’ll wait!
Now to cancel that crouchdash into a forward dash. Do “f, qcf, f”. So after you’ve hit your qcf, just tap forward. Your character should pop up a bit faster, and do a forward dash. Nice!
Finally, chain together a bunch of “f, qcf, f, qcf, f ...”  ... and you’re wavedashing! This may take a little bit of practice to get the timing right, but it’s fairly forgiving. Turn on command history in practice mode and you should see a nice little pattern of repeated forward (then some space) and quarter-circle forward. If you don’t see that, you’re not doing it right.
The more important thing is which moves will you do from your wavedash, and even more important than that is knowing when to pressure with wavedash and using wavedash to bait a response and then punishing the response.
The thing that makes a wavedash scary is the mixups that come out of it. And in Tekken you gotta mix up a low with a mid.
For Kazuya, the obvious mid/low mixup from your crouchdash is hellsweep (cd 4,1 or cd 4,4) vs thunder god fist (cd 1). That’s not a good mixup, because both options are launch punishable, so if your opponent guesses right, that’s super bad for you. You see some beginner Kazuyas doing it, and it’s only OK until you face somebody who has good punishment.
Two better mids to consider are ff+3 (safe mid launcher, but slow and possible to avoid) and ws4 (fast safe mid for frame advantage on hit). Before you’re using wavedash in a real match, you should learn to get those moves to come out from your wavedash. For ff+3, just hit 3 during your forward dash. So f, qcf, f+3. For ws4, go to neutral during your crouchdash (let go of d/f!) and hit 4. It is very important to be able to reliably get crouchdash into ws4 when you mean to, as opposed to hellsweep. You don’t want to accidentally throw out hellsweeps. At early stages, you can get a lot of mileage out of wavedash into ff+3, because people will think you’re going to hellsweep!
Oh, and if you’ve got rage and you’re Kazuya, one of the best options from your wavedash is your rage drive. That’s crouchdash+1+4. Heck of a move.
There are many more options, but those are the ones I think you should start out with.
Let me know if this helps, or if this was confusing, or if you’ve got more questions! Thanks for reading :D

TEW Characters Playing Fighting Games Headcanons
Sebastian:
has no idea what he’s doing but he always tries his best
picks characters that look cool to him
likes Bruce Lee clones
tends to spam special moves once he figures them out
doesn’t know how to block
never plays the tutorial. EVER.
uses the practise mode to figure out the controls, but most of the time it boils down to: “Okay, what does this button do? Ah, okay, that’s the punch button. This one? Kick button, alright... what happens when I press two buttons at the same time? Woah, he threw him! Sweet! Okay, on to the arcade mode!”
usually plays with a controller, but sometimes he tries to play with a stick because they look like those from the arcade games ^^
would most likely play: Guile, Fei Long (SF), Ragna (BB), Sol (GG), Miguel, Paul, Law (TK), Terry, Robert, Ralf (KoF)
Joseph:
always plays the tutorial and reads the manual first. If he has no idea how to play the game, he won’t play it.
usually picks shoto characters
rather defensive playstile, but when he learns his opponent’s behavior, he gets more aggressive
learns frame data, but only for his most played matchups
prefers to play with an arcade stick
practises simple, yet effective combos and some setups
will give others advice when they ask him how they can improve
would most likely play: Ryu (SF), Jin, Hibiki (BB), Ky (GG), Leo, Jin (TK), Hein, Andy, Tung (KoF)
Kidman:
is actually more into shooters, but figures out fighting games pretty quickly
doesn’t play the tutorial, but checks the movelist of her character in practise mode
likes quick and tomboyish characters
plays with a controller because she’s used to handhelds (loves to play Metroid: Prime Hunters in her free time xD)
doesn’t practise, but repeatedly kicks Sebastian’s butt with easy 3 hit-combos
would most likely play: Cammy, Makoto (SF), µ-12, Bullet, Jubei (BB), Millia (GG), Asuka (TK), Leona, Vanessa, Kyo (KoF)
Myra:
used to play Street Fighter at her local arcade
likes to figure the controls out by simply playing the game
checks her character’s movelist when she isn’t sure if she knows all special moves
picks characters that look friendly and/or strong to her
plays with an arcade stick, but has no problems switching to a controller
focuses on counters and whiff-punishes
would most likely play: Chun-Li (SF), Tsubaki (BB), Dizzy (GG), Kazuya, Kazumi (TK) King, Love Heart, Mian (KoF)
Leslie:
was scared of fighting games at first, but once he realized he can fight back, he started to love the genre
picks characters others would consider “weird” or “annoying”
doesn’t care if his character is technical or easy to get used to
more into zoning and footsies, but he can get pretty aggressive when he thinks he’s about to win
goes full Rushdown Mode when he plays against Ruvik
doesn’t care if he plays with an arcade stick or controller; both are fine to him
would most likely play: Blanka (SF), Bang, Carl (BB), Sin (GG), Bob (TK), Meitenkun, Sylvie, Chin (KoF)
Tatiana:
pretends she doesn’t know how to play fighting games, but kicks @$$ with her characters
sassy af, even during matches
trash talks when she plays against the antagonists, but it’s very subtle
can play with anything, be it an arcade stick, a normal controller or even a hitbox
picks characters that... um... does she even have criteria for her characters...?
would most likely play: Karin (SF), Amane (BB), Elphelt (GG), Kazumi (TK), King, Mature, Billy (KoF),
Ruvik:
most technical player of all TEW characters
learns frame data. ALL OF IT.
picks complex and edgy characters
analyzes his opponent’s playing style and adapts to it
spends hours in practise mode to learn optimized max damage-combos, confusing mixups, complex setups etc.
likes using trash talk to annoy his opponents, especially Sebastian
holds back when playing against Laura and sometimes lets her win
exclusively plays with an arcade stick
would most likely play: Gen, Urien (SF), Terumi, Susanoo (BB), Raven, Zato-1, Bedman (GG), Bryan (TK), Kukri, Iori, Yamazaki (KoF)
Laura:
has never played fighting games before, but is quite good at them
plays the tutorial, but learns most of the gameplay in arcade mode
loves watching her brother play and cheers for him
almost never uses specials, but somehow still manages to win
prefers controllers because she’s more comfortable with them
picks cute characters
would most likely play: Sakura, Ibuki (SF), Noel (BB), May, Jack-O (GG), Xiaoyu, Lucky Chloe (TK), Yuri, Kula, Alice (KoF)
Stefano:
tries to figure out everything on his own
goes for fancy, cool looking combos instead of practical ones
lets Obscura take photos during matches
trash talks at any given opportunity
swears in Italian when he gets comboed or is about to lose
plays with an arcade stick
plays cross handed because... ART!
picks characters that look similar to him or remind him of the models he used to work with
would most likely play: Vega (SF), Hazama (BB), Venom (GG), Claudio, Lee (TK), Mature, Vice, Luong (KoF)
Theodore:
can’t play fighting games at all and tries to compensate for it with excessive trash talk
lets his Harbringers burn the TV when he’s about to lose (=taking ragequitting to a whole new level)
doesn’t let others help him because he thinks he already knows how to play
plays with a hitbox because it makes him look more like a pro
picks intimidating characters
would most likely play: M. Bison (SF), Relius (BB), Leo (GG), Heihachi (TK), Xanadu, Chang, Geese (KoF)
Administrator:
sucks at fighting games, even more than Theodore
hands Ruvik or Kidman his controller when he loses several times in a row
brags about how cool he is when he happens to win (which never happens)
complains about cheating, spam, cheap tactics etc. all the time
plays with a controller
picks characters he would recruit for Mobius if they existed
would most likely play: Decapre, Sagat (SF), Izayoi (BB), Answer (GG), Lars (TK), Billy, Hein, Geese (KoF)
Acronym meanings: SF = Street Fighter, BB = Blazblue, GG = Guilty Gear, TK = Tekken, KoF = The King of Fighters

Experience with Scaling Devices using PlayStation 1 (PS1)
I’ve been playing around with PS1 games on my old LG 1080p TV using different devices and wanted to do a little write up (keeping it brief but also describing what I saw).  Apologies for no screenshots, but I’m not really set up for it and any pictures I took wouldn’t really convey much.
The reason the PS1 is so interesting to me is because it’s still that early time in 3D graphics as far as hardware, but it lasted long enough to where the developers got really good at attempting realism.  So while simple polygonal games like Spyro the Dragon look good no matter how you scale or filter them, games like Gran Turismo 2 or Need for Speed III either need to be left original or with subtle scanlines.  You can’t just anti-alias or blur your way through these games.  Every little pixel (from the trees to the dirt) has been placed there to resemble reality in a very “crunchy” graphics sort of way.  That’s part of the art and the fun of PS1.  The little system is trying to do the most with what little it has and I want that carried through to me while playing the games.
First of all; here’s my setup:  I use an original PS1 1001 console (the one with the audio jacks in the back).   I use Retro Gaming Cables RGB Scart cables going through a GScartSW (which is an expensive switching device that offers sync regeneration) going out to a scaler.  Here are the setups I tried.
Framemeister - Though I’ve sold my Framemeister recently, I had tried it extensively with the PS1 and used the custom configurations from FirebrandX.  The scaling was right, but didn’t look great on my TV at 5x due to positioning.  And 4X looked really sharp and centered, but it was leaving a lot of unused screen space and I ended up having to use the zoom feature on my TV.  Not ideal for many reasons.  Also, I wanted scanlines and those only looked good at 4X as well.  Plus it’s annoying switching back and forth and having to use the remote to load different profiles (more on my solution for that later on).  Back when this is all we had to use, it was more than acceptable.  But with so many awesome choices these days, it just seems like an over-priced way to go these days (I bought it for $300 and sold it at around $800).
Scart2X - Whenever Mike Chi (RetroTink Store) came out with the Scart2X I jumped at the chance to try it.  The $95-ish device takes RGB Scart input and outputs straight to HDMI.  It doubles 240p input and deinterlaces 480i, so you get a crisp 480p output.  There’s also a button to add either scanlines or smoothing to the image.  I used this setup for a couple of months and I really appreciated the simplicity.  All my 240p consoles look fantastic through this (Genesis, SNES, Sega Saturn, etc).  There were a couple of downsides, however.   The first was that the device doesn’t pass through 480p or anything higher.  It really only accepts 480i and 240p.  Secondly, the scanlines are 100% black lines and this made the image really dark on my TV.  So I ended up not using the device’s scanlines and - instead - using a separate HDMI scanline generator.  This actually helped a lot but not being able to input other sources with higher resolutions kind of bothered me.  As far as being simple to use, this is the ultimate device.  But I just wanted a little more than this had to offer in the end, but I’d have no problems recommending this - especially to those that want an unaltered original experience.
GBS-8200/GBSControl - At this point, I learned about the developments around the GBS-8200 from watching one of RetroRGB’s videos on the subject.  Turned out that I had bought this really cheap ($25-ish) VGA scaler device years back and it sat in a bin in my basement without use (because it didn’t really do what I wanted from it on a VGA monitor).  A developer (ramapcsx2) came up code so that you can use an Arduino to control the GBS-8200 board.  The neat thing is that - once installed - you can control resolution and features through your phone using WiFi.  You can also add a clock generator module to the board to prevent screen tearing (for PS2 games like Dead or Alive 2).  So - after spending maybe $25 in additional parts and conducting a mod that took me an hour and a half to figure out - I had a really nice scaling device that rivaled the Framemeister in features, but also had most of the simplicity of the Scart2X.  Well one extra addition I need was a SCART to VGA converter (which I luckily had).  I can leave it on 1900x1080 output and it automatically adds scanlines (letting you pick the intensity - which I leave on 50%) if the input is 240p (so that higher resolutions just look normal).  Turns out that this is exactly what I wanted all along.  The board also provides adaptive motion deinterlacing (which you can turn off or change to BOB deinterlacing at will).  This ends up looking great on my TV - it’s nice and centered and sharp.
mCable Classic - I’ve also tried using the mCable Classic (I’ll just refer to it as mCable) with the GBS-8200 to add smoothing since it essentially adds no lag. Since this article is focused on PS1, I’ll just mention what I’ve found it useful for and what I haven’t.  First of all, the mCable doesn’t really do anything at 1080i, so you need to feed it 480p or 720p from the scaler output to see a difference.  And that’s not really convenient (as I’d just prefer to leave thing set as they are), but you could leave the cable hooked up and turned on and just disable the smoothing it offers by upping the resolution from the scaler to it.  Second of all, using scanlines really only works well with 1080p output on the GBS-8200 and the mCable doesn’t really do much with scanlined output going into it.
mCable/GBS-8200 - So here are some games that are use-cases (combining mCable and the GBS-8200):
Tekken 3 - Using smoothing has mixed results here.  Menus look great but the characters in-game looks pretty rough at 480p.  Upping to 720p results in the characters looking decent smoothed (especially when paused), but I’m 50/50 on whether to go this route or just to use the 240p scanlines to be honest.  For simplicity, the mCable isn’t really worth since this isn’t a game you’d play for a long time.
Crash Bandicoot (and Ridge Racer) - This at 480p going into the mCable is probably the best-case scenario.  Game looks smoothed and great.  Simple polygonal 3D games is kind of what smoothing is best used with.  The mCable is especially great because of how it treats defined solid lines.  Scanlines looks great, but if you were going to sit down and beat this game, setting up the mCable would absolutely be worth doing.
Need for Speed III (and other realistic-looking racers) - This is a case where you want to preserve the pixels that were trying to make the streets and scenery look realistic.  In this case, scanlines really beat out the mCable’s smoothing.  With the smoothing (even at 720p), the barely-visible pixelated leaves on the ground just look like a brown smear.  There wasn’t a lot of resolution to go on here and it’s only detrimental to remove it with smoothing.
Parasite Eve (and FF7) - This is another case where smoothing really isn’t useful due to the way the very pixelated/blocky characters look.  Sure, you’d see some nice smoothing on the backgrounds, but they’ve used every pixel to carefully represent the characters on the game field in a way that smoothing just doesn’t work with them.  In this case, scanlines works at 50% intensity because at this point your eyes will blend things for you and also you won’t be missing the information your eyes need to do this.

Show of the Week - Tekken Tag Tournament 2
First Show of the Week giffed and transcribed! Transcript is under the cut, please tell me if there are any mistake so I can edit them!
[sounds from the game Tekken Tag Tournament 2]
 (Andy)
Hello everyone and welcome to show of the week. Mike, what have you been up to this week of which this is the show of.
 (Mike)
I’ve been on the Borderlands 2 skill tree calculators on borderlands2.com working out how I’m gonna level up my character.
 (Andy)
You’ve seemed to have put all your points into something called gun lust.
 (Mike)
…Yeah it was filled out like that when I got here.
 (Andy)
What’s in this folder?
 (Mike)
Umm… give me my laptop back.
 (Andy)
With… pleasure. So, this week we’re all about Tekken Tag Tournament 2 which is out today if you’re watching on Friday.
 (Mike)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 or TTT2 as it’s known in some places is the… [interrupted]
 (Overhead Voice)
Get ready for the next battle!
 (Andy)
What was that?
 (Mike)
Uh it said get ready for the next battle… Um but obviously, I’m already ready for the next battle.
 (Andy)
I’m not ready for the next battle. These aren’t my battle shoes.
 (Mike)
I’ll tell you what, I’ll stall for time. Uh, you have exactly as long as it takes me to read out the entire character roster of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in alphabetical order. Go.
 (Andy)
Got it.
 (Mike)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is the eight game in the venerable Tekken fighting games series and its accumulated a lot of great characters as its gone along. As a result, the character roster for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is as long and bonkers as an extended remix of the Dizzee Rascal song “Bonkers”. So here they are in alphabetical order: Alex, Alisa Bosconovitch, Anna Williams, Armor King II… [fades out]
[sounds from the game Tekken Tag Tournament 2]
 (Mike)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has a lot more going for it then a roster of 50 plus fighters. In it you select two characters then knock seven bells out of your opponent’s tag team with whatever flashy combo strings, throws, juggles and tag combos as you can muster. Maybe you’d gathered as much from the name. If you have eyes for only one fighter, by the way, you don’t have to tag in a second. You can pick just your favourite and then go up against your adversary’s team with the health of two fighters.
[sounds from the game Tekken Tag Tournament 2]
 (Mike)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 plays a lot like Tekken 6. It holds onto that game’s bound mechanic, for instance, with which you can smack a fool into the floor and bounce him as part of your juggle. But there’s plenty that’s new as well including fight lab, a tutorial suite with a generous helping of fun. It stars Combot, a cyborg with a bucket for a head and features mini-game style matches in which you dodge sushi and pizza pelted at you by a tubby man in a yellow jumpsuit, for instance.
 [Snoop Dogg rapping in background]
 (Mike)
Also, in Tekken’s time honoured tradition of being barmy, rapper Snoop Dogg appears as a pre-order special only guest in his own gaudy stage, sat on a throne, overseeing the battle like an emperor at the Roman Coliseum. Think about that, that’s mad, isn’t it? It’s as mad as if Snoop Dogg decided he was gonna stop being a dog and start being a lion. And also make reggae music.
 (Snoop Dogg)
It’s not that I wanna become Snoop Dogg on a reggae track. I wanna bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion.
 (Mike)
Oh… right. And it’s exactly for madness like this that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is our game of the week.
 (Mike continuing the list)
Lars Alexandersson, Lee Chaolan, Lei Wulong, Leo Kliesen, Lili de Rochefort… [interrupted]
 (Andy)
Right, back, ready.
 (Mike)
Oh, brilliant, made it.
 (Overhead Voice)
Get ready for the next… [interrupted]
 (Mike)
Yeah, we get it buddy.
 (Andy)
Wait, so we have to battle each other.
 (Mike)
Yeah, apparently so. And in the style of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 as well.
 (Andy)
Why? What’s in it for us?
 (Mike)
Apparently, it’s for the entertainment of Namco Bandai Limited.
 (Andy)
Oh, okay. That’s fair enough.
 [Mike yells]
[fighting noises from Tekken Tag Tournament 2]
 (Jane)
Hey, um, you’re making a racket in there. What’s going on?
 (Andy)
Uh… we’re fighting each other in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 style. Mike just knocked me through here into the next stage of our multi-tiered battle arena.
 (Jane)
Okay, right. And why?
 (Andy)
Uh, a disembodied voice told us to.
 (Jane)
Andy, if a disembodied voice told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?
 (Andy)
No…
 (Overhead Voice)
Jump off that bridge!
 (Andy)
Are you sure? It’s really high up.
 (Overhead Voice)
I don’t have all day!
 (Andy)
Alright.
 (Andy)
So, what have you been up to this week?
 (Jane)
Oo, I found a DDR machine on the Boardwalk map in Modern Warfare 3.
 (Andy)
Ah cool. Is it playable?
 (Jane)
Yes…
 [multiple gun shots]
 (Andy)
I can get thrown out of the arcade for that.
 [Jane makes agreeing noises]
 (Jane)
Anyway, I’m done here. Do you wanna tag me in?
 (Andy)
Yeah, sure.
 [hand slapping noise]
 (Overhead Voice)
Round 2, fight!
 (Andy)
So, while I’ve got you guys here, I want to talk to you about Tekken characters. Now as Mike already covered, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has approximately 16 thousand playable characters but that’s not even the end of it.
[fighting noises from Tekken Tag Tournament 2]
 (Andy)
We need to get this place soundproofed. Yes, according to our sister site BG 24/7, industrious people on the internet, intent on squeezing secrets out of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 to create delicious Tekken secret juice, have discovered 6 additional characters on the disc. First up is Thin Bob. As you may be aware, Bob is a pretty hefty guy, but his Tekken 6 ending shows him losing a load of weight for no reason. Now you can play as Bob’s slimmed down alter ego. Well, hello.
[frustrated noises from the character “Thin Bob”]
 (Andy)
Now according to my Tekken research this is Sebastian, Lili’s frail and elderly butler who will presumably polish his opponents to death in an exciting first for fighting games. The next character found on the disc is Miharu Hirano, a character who was originally a palette swap or alternate colour version of Ling Xiaoyu in Tekken 4. She’s a high school girl so her character portrait is her in a tiny bikini, obviously… Here we have series’ staple Violet also known as Lee Chaolan in the world’s most unconvincing disguise of a wig and some sunglasses. Here’s a quick test. Here’s a picture of Jane. Now see if you identify this person on screen right now. Well done, you’re smarter than everyone in the Tekken universe. Next up in this roster of terrifying and physically imposing characters is a 96-year-old scientist, Dr Bosconovitch. He created Roger and Alex as well as the prototype Jack unit so maybe he knows something about fighting though, right, maybe, ah whatever. Finally, we have a nude woman covered in purple goo. Usually you have to pay a lot of money to see that. She’s called Unknown and you might remember her from the original Tekken Tag Tournament. Oh, she also has a terrifying wolf spirit growing out of her back for details. So these characters are apparently already on the disc but unlike Capcom’s model of charging for this content, which understandably gets gamers pretty annoyed, these characters will most likely be free if series’ director Katsuhiro Harada is to believed as he’s come out publicly against such practices in the past. And no one wants to argue with that guy, believe me.
 (Mike)
Well it seems we’re pretty evenly matched.
 (Jane)
Yeah, I know right. I am exhausted.
 (Mike)
Just as well as it’s time for the comments. This is the bit where we share your comments across the site, YouTube, Facebook, twitter, this rock with a note wrapped round it that someone threw through the window. The answer being yes we do like our legs not broken thank you very much.
 (Jane)
Right and remember we read all the things you write in all of those places so please do keep it coming. Over on twitter Neil Allchin tweets at us about Joe Danger 2: The Movie which is out on XPLA today and he writes “The 1st game was so much fun, such a happy game, my 5-year-old adores it!”.
 (Mike)
And somehow his scores are better than mine. Anyway, Sam Williamson comments on the site itself “I’m concerned this game might be a bit busy visually. The original is pretty much the best modern Sonic game, which is somewhat ironic as it looks like The Movie could be following in that series’ missteps of erring towards spectacle over readability.”.
 (Jane)
It’s not a problem we’ve had while playing but there is a free demo if you want to try before you buy.
 (Mike)
How? He’s like, he’s 5 years old.
 (Jane)
Let it go. Finally, terrifyingly titled YouTube commenter the brutality gaming explains why Counter Strike GO is easier on the console than on PC. He says “The reason why it’s easier on consoles is that less console players have played counterstrike (on any platform) so won’t be familiar with the way the game plays and the maps layouts.”.
 (Mike)
Hmm, if you’re playing CS:GO at the moment, let us know in the comments in a totally unscientific survey. Have you already played Counterstrike on PC or is this your first time striking counters?
 (Jane)
I struck the counter once. I was dissatisfied with the service in a Nando’s.
 (Mike)
Alright, I’m tagging out now. You can tell it to my partner.
 (Jane)
Okay well that’s it for Show of the Week. We’re off to further hone our TTT2 skills, thanks for joining us and we’ll see you… [fades off] I thought you were sending on your partner.
 (Mike)
I’m a palette swap.
 (Jane)
Argh that is so lazy. Go. Yeah, you better run.
 [Mike sits back down]
 (Jane)
That’s just you in a green wig now.
 (Mike)
No! I’m an entirely original character! I’m Verdant, mysterious child of nature… ah
