How to Add Fun to Your Stand & Get Better Results

Over recent years there has been a change in which the exhibits and trade shows became becoming more reserved. Exhibitors are more acquainted with the manner in which they address customers from the stage. The aim will still be to draw potential clients and expand on established partnerships, but we're seeing more companies adopting this laid back, friendly image to help eliminate the tourist ick factor. In those days who wants to be sold?! We are also asked how to insert more fun into a room. We're always up for fun, as usual, so long as they're based on performance. Here are our best tips to make your stand fun:

 Theming 

We're not just talking about decorating your display exhibition stands in bright colours or kooky patterns to catch your eye. It runs further than that which involves making sure you have consistency of meaning around the board for the programme you are running.

Ensure sure your concept ties back to your main message and displays the message strongly in a manner that will stick with the viewers until they leave. There is room here to learn of new ways of delivering your goods or services out of the box. Your goods may be all-natural as a simple example, so you use earthy tones and greenery to dress up your show and emphasise this idea.

Help guests love hearing about your company and give them an experience they'll love. (But only if it's specifically relevant to your company otherwise we genuinely think it's a waste of your time and money.) You want your guests to "get it" and know what you stand for, why they will speak to you and consider you when you leave. The easiest way to do so is to just find a point of distinction or gain and get behind it.

Giveaways

 We've all seen branded pens and keyrings from conferences, pushed by excited salespeople into your pockets, doomed to stay in the depths of your desk drawer for ever. Can't we do more than that?! When you have to send branded products to men, then go for durability. Something they'll just like using.

BOQ Expert, a recent client of ours, gave away reusable water bottles that were decorated with the name of the guests. It was in keeping with their emphasis on customer experience which was fantastic as attendees got to come back to the booth a second time to retrieve their bottle because it was certainly something they were going to carry on during the event.

Gamifying 

This one can work very well, particularly if you're able to keep your brand marketing and product benefits on track. Note that conference attendees sometimes don't have a lot of time between sessions and it's unlikely that the usual games we've all played can make a lasting impact like putt putt etc.

In recent years, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have made a splash, but you don't need to go down the path to gamilfy the place. With a smaller budget, there are ways you can easily highlight your goods that will also make learning enjoyable and help you create that happy and fun environment. When potential guests see a swarm of people gathering around your booth enjoying a wonderful time, they may want to be interested naturally.

4/ Team Don't forget the crucial aspect of every series... The squad! Where the human element aspect is lacking, the most compelling or creative show stand does not attract guests.

Whoever you want to represent your label will affect your stand's climate. We'd go as far as to suggest it will make or break the performance of your show. Also a series of what others would find to be a terrible performance was considered to yeild fantastic results when you are in charge of your own fate even if the relevant decision-makers are the ones who walk the aisles.

Here is our top tip-keep it alive! What we mean by this is to make sure the staff is both personable, open and competent. Your show is an chance to make eye contact with clients and consumers and to start developing a partnership. No tourist needs to hear a whispered sales speech for them. So go ahead and tell a joke. Radiate the smiles yourself and enjoy the experience. Delegates should be moist to this of course.

Damian Williams — One-Round

Damian became well known to television audiences in the early nineties for his appearances as Ginger Gahagan in the BBC series Billy Webb and the second series Alfonzo Bonzo. His other television appearances include Lumpy in Spatz; Gavin in Exam Conditions and Ian in The Bill. Damian was the presenter of Damian’s Are You Smarter Than Your 10 Year Old for Sky One and was also in the new series of Birds of a Feather.

Damian is always in demand for Musical Theatre and in 2013 and 2014 Damian played Edna Turnblad in Hairspray both at the Leicester Curve as well as a tour of Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Damian’s first love is comedy (his heroes are Laurel & Hardy) and he has played various comedy roles from Luther Billis in South Pacific to Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. Damian played Tommy Cooper in the new play Being Tommy Cooper, and toured in the one man play My Dog’s Got No Nose. Most recently he’s also played Tommy Cooper in the short film The Last Laugh, written and directed by Paul Hendy for which Damian won best Actor (Southampton film festival)

Damian has toured the country for over 25 years and has a wealth of experience in Theatre, a well respected farceur Damian has appeared in; Run for your wife, Cash on Delivery, Funny Money, Tom Dick & Harry, It Runs in the Family, Not now darling, There Goes The Bride, Out of Order, Caught in the Net, Dry Rot, See How they Run and Don’t Dress For Dinner.

As resident Dame of 10 years at the Sheffield Lyceum Damian is set to play Mother Goose this year.

Damian was born in Tilbury in Essex and now resides in Southend on sea with his wife Barbie. They are proud parents of twins, Joshua and Esme, undoubtedly Damian’s finest productions to date!

Anthony Dunn — Louis Harvey

Anthony has worked extensively as an actor in the UK, Europe, Canada and the United States over the last 30 years. Theatre includes Calamity Jane (UK and Ireland Tour), Paved in Gold (Canada), Birds (US Tour), Face (UK Tour), Buddy (Victoria Palace), Bouncers (Hull Truck), L'Ascencore (European Tour) and Don Quixote(Warehouse Theatre). His television appearances include The Murdoch Mysteries (US and Canada), Roomers and The Last Word for the BBC and Stuck on You, The Upper Hand and Frank Stubbs for ITV. Anthony has also worked in academia, teaching and doing Ph.D research in Washington and New Orleans. When not working as an actor, Anthony can be found taking groups of people on entertaining historical tours of London by road, river or foot.

Sam Lupton — Harry Robinson
