In all seriousness--
The REPEATED mention of "Tomura Shigaraki: Symbol of Fear" as his lasting legacy, coupled with the excruciatingly harsh reports referring to him on TV, in a chapter titled "Who Was TOMURA SHIGARAKI", while being fully aware that nobody fucking knew who he was save for the things they were exposed to, the only person knowing the more delicate details being Deku---all inflates my confidence in that character being Tenko.
Tomura Shigaraki was a forced identity. Tomura may have worn it and held it close, but that's a biased view because we literally know the reason he became who he was.
Tenko Shimura is who he was at his core, that was reiterated multiple times. Having his false identity thrown in our faces, shoved down our throat, to me makes it feel even more likely that we'll be getting a last, final, annoying af bait and switch.

I've thought of what could push Izuku to kill Shigaraki in your AUs!
Shigaraki: Hey, that's a cute Nomu dog. I'm taking it for myself and naming it Mon II.
Izuku wouldn't even need Decay to reduce Tomura to dust!

With how much the LOV “destroyed” in the end, looking back now that the manga is done. Would it have been unrealistic for them to be saved with how much damage they did. Do you think it was too much of a hopeful way of thinking, not realistic for almost terrorists pushed by HK as irredeemable to actually live when realistically they would probably still have bad endings and be in jail not getting rehabilitated. I’ve seen posts saying why the LOV died and it would not have made sense for them to live after what they did, and now I’m questioning if HK just intended for this all along. I mean, looking back, maybe there weren’t as many signs for them to be saved as thought and it was just meant for the villains to always be tragic?
I'm not sure if you've been reading my blog for a while or if I'm just someone random you came across in the bnha tag but you could look through my asks and my metas to know my answer. But here I go, on this rant:
No it wasn't unrealistic.
There was foreshadowing and set up. I've talked about it here and so have other meta writers.
Writing doesn't have to follow real world law/scenarios or logic. Not when it's fiction. Bnha wasn't an autobiography or a history textbook. It's fiction. Fiction/stories tend to have plots and their own logic that is delivered by the author through techniques like foreshadowing, etc. Stories have their formulas and set ups to make them feel complete. Bnha failed in these aspects.
Y'all stop coming into my inbox calling bnha a tragedy. You know what's a tragedy? The sinking of the Titanic. The movie Titanic. Harry Potter deals with tragedy. The Hunger Games. Romeo and Juliet.
Tragedy doesn't mean that the story ends in a way that makes you sad or is sad for the characters. It's more complicated than that. You can read about them here and here.
Bnha is not a tragedy. We can't just go around using words without knowing their meanings.
Bnha is unfaithful, uncomitting writing. The story didn't start out "tragic". It was very hopeful. Nothing in the story was tragic up until the ending. And I wouldn't even call it tragic as much as a slap in the face to victims and spineless writing.
The story itself told us that society creates its own villains. So how would you fix that? By society addressing its own villain issue. But instead it gave us this toxic positivity ending with lots of Band-Aids that don't fix system issues.
If "I want to save that crying boy" and "He is me" aren't signs that the characters themselves are supposed to be understood or saved in some way, then I'm not sure what to tell you. If you reread the story and decide that you don't see any signs of the villains redemption, then I'm not sure I can help. I've written over the years a lot about the foreshadowing and themes, and so have a lot of other meta writers. If you want to believe more in blogs who say that bnha had a realistic ending, then that's fine, but know that I don't agree with their analysis from a literature standpoint.
I know a lot of arguments are that the villain's Hearts were saved in the end, but were they? Toga died, thinking it was too late for her to be loved. Yeah, she was happy that someone her age understood her, but even in death, society still viewed her as subhuman and evil. Shigaraki's crying child was acknowledged by Deku, but when the world started finding out about his trauma and grooming, they were still like, "Oh well, he sucks and good thing he's dead." If we're just taking this "their hearts were saved" in an Eastern versus Western perspective, okay cool.
But still, Society hasn't learned its lesson. I'm not saying no one's allowed be angry, but the fact that their attitudes toward actual villains didn't change and that they didn't have any nuance or compassion for these villains they THEMSELVES created tells us that Society didn't change at all. How hard is it to be nice and have compassion for someone who hasn't committed a crime yet, like Scissors-kun? It's not. The real challenge would have been for society to accept these big-time villains back into society or something like that.
One of bnha's messages was that " everyone deserves a second chance" so the story itself was setting up that the villains would have a second chance and thus some sort of redemption. Giving them a sympathetic past was intentional. There was a difference for their set up (tragic pasts, victims of abuse and grooming) versus someone like Muscular who was depicted as a bloodthirsty criminal who was violent for violence's sake.
(I'm not going to pretend like the story was perfect because it did set up that double standard where you have to be sympathetic to get a second chance. Ideally, someone like Muscular would also get a second chance for rehabilitation.)
The Trio lov villains didn't get their second chance. And they wanted it. Toga especially. Touya wanted to die, but he also wanted to have time to argue/talk with his family and say his peace, and we didn't even get to see that either. He's just in some tube, lol. It's hinted, but where is the satisfaction in that? lol.
I'm not sure how many times I have to explain that applying realism/ real world standards to a story about superheroes is incredibly uncreative and ridiculous. "In real life someone who commits crimes goes to jail" no fucking shit. The punitive justice system is broken and doesn't work; why do we want fiction to reflect reality?
In real life, people don't make fire with their arms or make things float by touching them, and in real life you get a brachial plexis injury like Ida and you could be left with debilitating and disabling upper extremity issues. In real life, people don't get their hearts sewed up with jean fibers after they explode by someone who shrinks down into minature like they're on the Magic School Bus. In real life, a muscular, in-shape man like Endeavor would be fitted for prosthetics so that he could be as mobile as possible. In real life, a 250lbs or so man in an electric motorized wheelchair wouldn't be pushed around by his wife because that's why the wheelchair has a motor and a control to move the wheelchair. That makes no sense.
Please yall stop coming into my inbox talking about what's realistic and what's not. It sounds ridiculous. It's a story about people with super human powers.
I think what bothers me most about asks like this is that it speaks a lot about the people's opinions about real life issues. This whole "xyz doesn't deserve Redemption and they should die" isn't a good look for humanity. How do we quantify someone's behavior to a moral code? Who's deciding this moral code? Who is worth saving and who isn't? Who gets to decide?
Those are questions that bnha literally asked and never answered. Lol.
Well, it did answer it, and the answer was reflective of a victim blaming mentality. So.
Y'all stop coming into my inbox with these types of questions. I'm done.

I literally love the concept of teen!AFO and shigaraki in art cuz of the symbolism. If horikoshi wasn’t so repulsed by AFO he would totally be drawing them all the timeee. It just works with all the generational trauma stuff going on. Anyway thanks for drawing them I love your art 🙏
I would do anything for Horikoshi to draw the two of them together again, honestly there are a lot of things about their dynamic that are interesting and should have been explored more but never happened. I really wish I could have seen what Tomura's reaction would be like when seeing the rewinded version of his sensei, it would have been a funny interaction. Also, thank you so much, i'm really glad. <3

—And... done! How are we feeling, babe? Feeling like a princess already? Oh, I bet you do.— Hizashi said, proud of the result of his work. He had spent hours doing your makeup, just like you'd ask him to; unaware of the real reason why you made such a request.
You looked at yourself in the mirror, your fingertips hovering over the smooth texture of your face. That wasn't you, never would be. Underneath that powdery foundation, you were still a simple girl.
A simple girl that would never be like the models that often visited Hizashi's radio studio.
—I feel so strange.– You whispered, touching the reflective surface as if you could pull the girl that was on the other side and switch places with her. — Why do I still feel so paltry?
Hizashi's ears perked at your comment.
—Are you ok, babe? Do you not like the colors? I can always use a more natural palette but- Babe, you are crying.— The blond said with alarm. He watched as you swiftly tried to clean the tears that had escaped you, unsuccessfully.
—Why can't I feel pretty, Zashi?— You sniffed, letting the tears flow. —You could've been with anyone else, but you picked someone so ordinary like me.
Hizashi cupped your cheeks, giving you a stern look.
—Darling, I didn't pick you for your looks. Although, If I had to say so, you really are a snack- but that's not the point.— He said, making you listen attentively to his words. —I love you. I like every single thing about you, no matter what.
Your hands met his, leaning against his warmth.
—Is that the reason why you asked me to do this? Because you felt like you weren't pretty enough?— He asked as his emerald eyes met yours. You nodded shamefully.
— Promise me you'll never make me do something like this without telling me why first.— He said, pressing a kiss on your forehead. —If you want to learn makeup, I'l teach you, but not for this reason.
—I'm sorry!— You cried, allowing the blond's arms to embrace you.
—Shh, it's OK, angel face. Zashi's got you, I love you so much.— He cooed, rubbing small circles on your back. —Let me kiss that pretty face of yours, hmm?— He pleaded, planting butterfly kisses all over your skin.
The gesture was sweet enough to make you forget your sorrows, concentrating on the way his lips praised you.
—Let me show you just how beautiful you truly are, darling.

I'm not a manga reader, but I also don't care about spoilers, that being said I'm happy All Might is getting his moment but I'm also so incredibly scared! 😩😩 Like please Horikoshi let him live! 😣
Although I am fully aware that the odds of something going horribly wrong are much higher than I like, I can't help but feel... pretty excited, tbh! And it's not just that we're going to get to see All Might be a quirkless hero. It's largely because he seems so happy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This amazing man has been out of his element for far too long. And I don't want him to die. I will be devastated if he dies. But if he does die, I'm glad he's going on his terms.

Touya was never a masterpiece even now but no one is. Every one of the Todorokis isn't perfect or have the perfect quirk. I don't know why there is such an obsession with wanting Touya to be the masterpiece and everyone else failures while it's more like they are all masterpieces because they are all perfect not just Touya or they are all flawed including Touya because no one is perfect,
Hi Anon, 😊
You are perfectly right and I agree with your take!
It's not really that Touya was meant to be a masterpiece, that was more of an Unhealthy Family Dynamic within the Todoroki Household. ENDEAVOR was the one who constantly upheld this Toxic trait where Shoto was the Masterpiece whereas Touya was the Failure. None of the Todoroki are like that.
Rei never uses this dynamic. She just wants to protect her family and what little happiness they can have...
Natsuo never uses this dynamic. He only says it once as a jab to Enji for how they were cruelly treated from this mess.
Fuyumi never uses this dynamic. She just wants a normal, happy family and salvage whatever she can.
NOT EVEN SHOTO uses this dynamic. He's the one who DESTROYS this dynamic.
Only Endeavor does. And he twists EVERYTHING to be self-centered around HIM
As the patriarch of the family who has full control over his household and their members, Endeavor created a dynamic where they all have to listen to HIM and cater to HIS needs and standards. He's the one who's OBSESSED with Masterpiece and Failure and it caused a massive rift.
Touya always wanted his father's attention. He was too young to realize how toxic this mindset was.
To little Touya, it was never about being a Masterpiece or surpassing All Might. All he ever wanted was his Parents love. Rei flat out says that he just wants his Father to look at him.
So why didn't Endeavor look at him... because he was too OBSESSED with getting a MASTERPIECE that he instinctively labeled Touya a FAILURE!!!
If Enji just gave him a chance, just looked at him, JUST encouraged him not as a hero, but as a Father, ALL OF THIS TRAGEDY COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED!!!
When people previously theorized that Touya had an Ice quirk, they weren't theorizing due to being obsessed with him as a Masterpiece and others as failure, but because it felt like an logical conclusion to an obvious foreshadowing.
(Aizawas said that quirks are a PHYSICAL FACTOR, so obviously Touya had an Ice quirk which is why he gets burned. Dabi doesn't overheat and can fight LONGER than Enji and Shoto, so obviously he was using his "secret" Ice to cool himself down)
Shoto flat out DISPELLS this dynamic in his final fight with Dabi, pointing out that he (Shoto) could NEVER BEAT his older brother alone and NEEDED HELP FROM HIS ENTIRE FAMILY!!!
It was never about being obsessed about who's the Masterpiece and who's the failure when ALL OF THEM ARE IMPORTANT REGARDLESS!!!
It was about the cruel irony of an Egotistical Man who destroyed his Family over petty pride and had the Child who could have fulfilled his dreams and desires if HE! JUST! LOOKED! AT! HIM!

Momo, what would you do if you had your arms and legs swapped?
Momo: This is a very unusual question. I would definitely try to find someone with a quirk that could bring me back to normal. Although doing things as if upside down seems quite interesting, it's always a new experience.

How did you feel about Toga’s segment with Uraraka in the end before we found out she actually died? Do you think it would have been a good conclusion for her character if she lived after that.
Yeah I think it would have been great for the girl who was told “you’re destined to die a martyr” to try to be said martyr by killing herself and then for the story to reject that notion

Are you feeling about Touya? I can't imagine Horikoshi it would be way too cruel, especially since him and Shouto need to eat soba together.
Feeling hopeful. I know the general consensus in the Dabi fandom right now is fear and despondency but when I look at the overall picture of the story, Touya dying doesn't make any sense and there's a lot of setup for him to survive.
The random guard/whoever saying Touya is heading toward a slow death means nothing to me. Not when Ujiko, the brilliant (but evil) doctor who saved Touya from certain death on Sekoto Peak, was wrong about Dabi's body not surviving a month after he woke up from the coma. The core of Touya's character is literally about survival and determination, going above and beyond to exceed expectations to live and be seen. I also feel that there might be something within Touya that allows him to survive, which is how he has any fire resistance at all. He was crying actual real tears this chapter instead of blood, which hints that his body is healing. I've seen other people theorize that Shouto's Phosphor has healing properties, which is promising and more in line with the stories' themes and messages than Touya dying again.
Overall, the tone of the Todoroki family arc is positive and hopeful. Yes, Fuyumi quit her teaching position, but one of the students' parents helped her find another one. This means that not only does this one parent believe in her, but so does this new employer. And those kindergarteners that Shouto connected with during the remedial license Arc have been supporting him this entire time. These instances show that society is changing their attitude towards the relatives of those who commit crimes and are willing to accept the Todorokis back into society and are literally cheering for them. This doesn't change the fact that some people will definitely hate them, but it's not all doom and gloom. And the soba thing - what a way to connect to someone who was born to replace you! That's a deep connection right there, and that's good. The story has focused a lot on connections and how life-saving and important those can be. Dying would rip that connection and go against the themes
Also, I feel like the Todoroki family would be much more worried and emotionally wrecked if they thought Touya was actually dying. Endeavor keeps talking to Touya about the future and visiting him. Unless all of them are in denial about what is happening, then why would they torture themselves talking about something that can't happen? All these conversations they want to have etc etc. It would be cruel, and Horikoshi is a sensitive guy. I don't think he could write something like that, and it doesn't fit what he's written so far.
To go further than Touya, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Toga and Spinner also on their deathbeds currently too, tbh. I'm thinking that mysterious new character (who is Tenko, no doubt), saved by his regeneration quirk, may help them. There's set up for it via Kurogiri telling Shigaraki his friends are waiting for him, and not to mention Shigaraki's always been the hero of the lov. He might not have saved them emotionally like the hero kids did, but he can save them physically. I'm not sure how exactly it'll all happen but I think they will all be okay in the end.
I know some readers have a different, more critical/negative opinion than I do, and that's fine. Ever since Shigiraki died, I've been saying that it's going to get worse before it gets better and that we're not going to see a resolution to that soon, and that's all been happening. I hate this saying, but, it's not over till the fat lady sings. I'm just going to keep on reading. I keep telling my friends this over and over again but it's kind of like reading the last Harry Potter (author is dead to me) book and stopping/rage quitting when Harry is killed by Voldemort in the forest. Keep reading. The story is not over yet, and a lot can change for the better. Let Horikoshi tell his story.
