Summary:

On a cold December morning, Remus Lupin shows up on Severus Snape's doorstep with a child with very familiar eyes.

 Excerpt:

“What’s the real reason, Snape?” Remus pushes.

He doesn’t expect an answer, not really. Or if he gets one, it’ll be acerbic and another bit of avoidance. He doesn’t want to think it’s a hopeless endeavour; this is for Harry, and he has to try his best to get Snape on board. He doesn’t want to think of having to send Harry back to a group home.

But then Snape answers in a voice quiet enough that Remus only hears it because of his enhanced senses. 

“I have no wish to become what I hate.” 

He takes a gamble. “Then don’t be like him.” He doesn’t know much about Snape’s childhood, but he remembers enough and this neighbourhood smells like misery and poverty. “Do you really think I’d let you treat Harry any less than with care and affection?” 

Snape bows his head but still doesn’t say more. 

“Listen.” Remus sighs and rubs his eyes. “We don’t… have to see each other, if that’s also part of the issue. I’ll stay away. We only need to agree to rules for Harry, right? Make sure we’re consistent with discipline and the like. He’s a good boy, clever and eager to please. I’m sure he’ll test our limits, but…” Remus looks up from his fidgeting hands to see Snape looking at him over his shoulder. “No matter our past, I trust that you’d never hurt him, just as I would never hurt him. And before you even try to say any rubbish like how Harry is just like James… No.” 

“No?” Snape repeats, voice too silky for Remus’s own good. 

He shivers but shakes his head. “James… I love him like a brother, but I’m not blind to his faults. He was a spoiled brat, and Monty and Ephie raised him to never want for anything. He never had to doubt if his parents loved him, never had to go hungry, never had to wonder if he was good enough to be around others.” Remus tries, tries to keep the bitterness out of his voice. He’s not bitter about James’s golden childhood. Yet — Remus shares more with Harry’s upbringing and probably Snape’s too, than he does with James. He refuses to think about Sirius. 

Snape scowls but returns to his potions. “You mentioned… bruises.”

“Yeah.” He clears his throat, glancing away. “On his arms, and his cousin who’s at least three times his size gave him such a beating earlier this year that he sported a black eye for a week. While he’s never going back to that house, he’ll still be going to the same school if he’s put into a group home.” 

“A magical child in a Muggle group home…” Snape sighs, shaking his head. “Once his accidental magic begins to manifest, it will be hell.” 

“Actually, er,” Remus grimaces, “it’s already manifested. Quite frequently, might I add. From what Harry’s told me, it’s why he was punished so frequently.” 

“Bloody hell.” Snape pinches the bridge of his nose with his free hand. 

The conversation peters out from there. It replays over and over in Remus’s mind; is it too optimistic to think that Snape had seemed almost… favourable towards adopting Harry with him? 

He doesn’t want to get his hopes up. And he certainly won’t be telling this to Harry, not yet. The boy already feels unwanted by nearly everyone in his life, and Remus absolutely refuses to make him feel this way too. 

Harry wakes up some time later. Snape glares at him when he makes to stand, taking three vials and a small bowl of the soup they had for supper to Harry’s room himself. Remus doesn’t mean to eavesdrop, but it isn’t his fault that he can hear them talking without much difficulty.

“Take this one first, swallow in one go.” 

“Ugh!” 

“Silly child, this is why I told you to swallow in one go. Here, take a sip of water. Potions are not meant to taste like pumpkin juice.” 

“Pumpkin juice? Do wizards drink pumpkin juice instead of grape juice, professor?” 

“Hogwarts only serves pumpkin juice. Now, take this one. Don’t dawdle.”

“Ugh! It tastes like Dudley’s old socks!”

“Don’t be ridiculous.” 

Remus hears Harry giggling, though, and Snape’s tone is gentle and dare he say — amused. 

“Do you have a favourite juice, sir?”

Snape is quiet for long enough that Remus thinks he won’t answer, but then he hears Harry gag again from the taste of the third potion. 

“Here, finish your water, then you’ll eat your soup.” Clinking noises, likely Snape putting the vials away. “I am partial to apple juice myself, if I must choose.” 

“I love apple pudding!” 

“Do you, now?” There’s humour in Snape’s voice. 

“I never had pudding before Remus saved me from the Dursleys. I love pudding!”

“If you’re healed by tomorrow, perhaps we can convince your keeper to get some more apple pudding for you.” 

Harry squeals in delight and Remus has to bite his lip to stop himself from grinning. Maybe this won’t be so difficult, after all.

As per usual, Jaskier winters at Oxenfurt Academy. He's done with following bastard Witchers and travelling the Path. He's settled in his professorial duties, and he's content. He is. But, well… It's not easy to leave this part of his life behind. His reputation precedes him and he finds himself taking care of a Witcher he's never met before. Jaskier realises that, despite his best intentions, maybe he's not so done with all that Witchery business after all.

I'm looking for a oneshot fic where with a dark harry who finds draco inside/near the Room of Requirement and then they have sex in there, it was dubcon with a very dominant and top harry, I think in the summary there had a sentence that went "Harry has a new pet to play with" or something along those lines, maybe a bench was involved? thanks in advance

When Draco's life goes to shit, he gets scammed. Maybe it's for the best. Who doesn't love new beginnings?

Excerpt:

Tea was served and a plate of tea biscuits appeared in front of Draco. It took only a sip for Draco to realise he knew this brew from somewhere else.

“Is this Mr Snape’s homemade tea?” he asked, surprised. 

Harry’s mouth did a weird thing, an expression between grimace and sheepish smile. “Actually, yeah.” He took a sip and hummed appreciatively. “We don’t really hate each other. Other people hope we do, because of my parents’ accident. They were friends, t’sais. He and my mom were best friends and it was their thing. Making tea flavours like this.” 

“Oh.” He knew things like this were hardly ever simple, but it still surprised him. Because if Harry hadn’t kept silent because of the content of Draco’s message all those days ago… what had happened? “I thought there was animosity between the two of you.”

Harry took another sip, clearly considering his response. “I think he feels very guilty. I think it makes him feel better when he thinks I hate him.” 

“Bloody hell,” Draco sighed. “Yeah, he seems the type.”

“I know…” Harry trailed off and chewed his lip before continuing. “I know you’re talking about that day I left you on read for some time. It wasn’t because of Severus.” 

“You don’t have to tell me,” Draco hurried to say, reaching out despite himself and placing a hand on Harry’s arm. “It isn’t any of my business.” 

Then Harry met his eyes, and there was an ocean of sadness in all the green there. “Thanks, Draco. But I want to tell you. It wouldn’t be fair otherwise. Not after everything you told me about yourself.” 

Draco nodded silently and squeezed his hand on Harry’s arm in encouragement. 

“It was… It was the anniversary of my partner’s death.” Harry swallowed rapidly, his Adam’s apple bobbing, and took a sip of tea. “He died three years ago. We’d been together five years. He was my first love.” He huffed and shook his head, but there was no bitterness there. “Turns out he was very sick and no one knew. One day he was fine, and the next he had barely any time left.”

Draco took a shuddering breath and a fortifying gulp of tea. “I’m so sorry.” 

“Thanks. It’s hard on those days, and his birthday. I haven’t…” Harry’s cheeks took a delightful shade of dark pink. “Not since Cedric.” 

“You haven’t… ah, seen other people?” Draco wondered what kind of fool he must be – to pine after someone like Harry. There was no chance Harry would be into someone like Draco bloody Malfoy. 

“Not really. It’s, er, a trust thing.” He cleared his throat. “Everyone treats me like I’m made out of glass, t’sais. Like if they’re rude to me, it’ll break me. It was refreshing to have a good-looking Englishman treat me like some crap under his shoe.”

Before Draco could retrieve his hand and apologise, Harry placed his own hand on top of Draco’s and ran his thumb along the delicate bones of his wrist. 

“I appreciated that.” Harry was smiling and his eyes were bright, and Draco felt absurdly drawn into them. “Because I’m not gonna break easy like that.”

Draco’s thoughts were a jumbled mess. Good god, he fancied the pants off Harry Potter. He had no time, no time at all, to craft an appropriate response, perhaps an apology, because Harry was leaning forward and he was dragging Draco toward him. 

Harry smelled like the sea breeze and like the lilac in their tea. His lips were pink and – 

“Draco, I really want to kiss you. Can I kiss you?” Harry whispered, as though it were a monumental secret. A confession too indecent for innocent ears.

Did he want Harry to kiss him? Kisses could be meaningless, they could be a promise for more but also a litmus test for compatibility, for incompatibility. Kisses could mean goodbye or this was nice. 

But damn it all, Draco wanted Harry to kiss him. 

“Yes.” 

But he didn’t wait for Harry to lean further. Instead, Draco slipped to the edge of his chair and closed the distance between their lips. There were a million reasons he shouldn’t be doing this. He wasn’t over everything Astoria had represented. He wasn’t sure if he and Harry even had a future. He wasn’t sure Harry, a gay man, was attracted to what was in Draco’s pants. He wasn’t sure of anything at all, and there were a hundred million reasons Draco shouldn’t be kissing Harry.

But those reasons evaporated to the furthest confines of his mind when their lips met. It tasted like wildflowers and sea salt. Harry’s lips weren’t chapped, but they weren’t the same kind of softness as a girl’s, as Astoria’s, were. When Harry’s tongue sought permission, Draco parted open for him like there had never been a question at all. 

Logically, Draco knew what kisses felt like. Of course he did. Of course he’d kissed other men before. But there was something about Harry that felt so real, so candid, that Draco thought he might drown in it. He wasn’t in love, not yet, but the possibility was there. It was there and it shone brightly like the sun. 

When they came up for air, Draco was relieved to find Harry just as flustered and out of breath as he was. Their tea remained forgotten in their mugs then, because Harry sucked him into another mind-blowing kiss. There was no hesitation to use tongue and teeth this time. The sounds Harry dragged out of Draco when he wrapped his tongue around Draco’s were truly pornographic. 

Before any of them could get any more carried away, Draco broke the kiss and leaned his forehead against Harry’s. 

“Wow.” His brain was too deep into a foggy bliss to provide more coherent statements.

“Yeah. Wow.” Harry chuckled, still breathless, and cupped Draco’s face. One hand slid back to run through his hair while the other simply held him close. “You’re a real good kisser.”

It was Draco’s turn to chuckle, though it came out sounding much more like a breathy little snort. “Speak for yourself.”

Day 25 Prompt:  Holiday (national)

Two holidays represented in this sad, hopeful, happy-ending fic; Christmas and Hanukkah!

A Snupin Adopts Harry fic which is sweet, slow and a bit grey to start, with the colour coming into it over the month of December as the three of them get close.

A fic that can be read at any time of year, as it's about 15% holiday-ish and the rest is just about sad men choosing to adopt a little, abused boy.

Excerpt:

“Not everyone drives a car. Cars are very expensive, and need constant maintenance. Public transport, however, is for everyone.” Remus brushes Harry’s hair out of his face with a soft smile.  “I love public transport!” Harry nods to himself and they walk to the train station in companionable chatter. Harry has so many questions about everything they see. He’s only six, so it makes sense — but this is the first time Remus has seen him so animated. Carefree. He thinks of the thank-you card, tucked safely in his travelling bag. Yes, Harry may look just like James, but he’s all Lily: the kindness, the boundless curiosity. Remus hopes this will endear him enough to Snape to get him to sign the adoption papers.  It’s also a relief that Harry’s relatives haven’t succeeded in beating the childish wonder out of him. The boy is beautifully resilient.

Apart from the worldbuilding, I find myself really liking the snark in my most recent reveal, Repertum (Harry and Severus here):

"And it seems you have finally learnt some Occlumency," Snape continued, slowly dropping his hands, smirking at Harry. "How many jars of cockroaches did it take to knock that into your head?" Yes. That was Snape, alright, down to the biting humour, the hooked nose, the straight, greasy - feathery! – hair and the imposing stance in his heavy black robes. The collar was lowered, though, revealing slightly raised, keloid bite marks on the right side of his neck. And - the expression on the man's face was less malicious, as Harry had known, than triumphant - and was that - was that a hint of pride in these glittering black eyes? Well. Snape did ask. "None, considering that you managed to miss me even from that short distance," Harry snarked back. "A Healer without mental defences can't truly be trusted with confidential patient information, can they?"
