Insomniac’s Spider-Man gets a prequel Novel

To offer the opportunity for players to experience Insomniac’s Spider-Man in it most intensive form, Marvel and Insomniac Games collaborate with publishing company Titan Books to release two tie-in books. The first one, Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover is a prequel to the events of the PS4 game releasing on 21 August 2018.

Franchises such as Warcraft or Assassins Creed have a myriad of tie-in books to deliver more background content to the game-based characters and stories. Earlier on 17 April 2018, in collaboration with Insomniac Games and Marvel, Titan Books announced two tie-in books for the upcoming PS4 game Spider-Man. The first one will be a prequel novel written by author David Liss (A Conspiracy of Paper; Black Panther: The Man Without Fear, The Ethical Assassin). The novel concentrates on “Kingpin’s plans to gain an iron grip on NYC,” and introduce characters that will be later continued in the video game. Characters which will appear in the book are iconic Spidey friends and villains, including J. Jonah Jameson, Mary Jane Watson, Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), Shocker, Echo, and Blood Spider. This fits perfectly to the information we already have on who to expect as a villain in the video game. For example, Blood Spider (Michael Bingham) is trained by Taskmaster to kill Spider-Man. According to the exclusive coverage by GameInformer, people can expect Taskmaster, Rhino, Shocker, Scorpion, Vultur, and for sure Mr. Negative and Kingpin, both already shown in several trailer footage. Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover will hit stores on 21 August 2018, a few weeks before the PS4 game will release.

The second book is the game-based art book Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Art of the Game, written by Paul Davies. “Packed with never-before- seen images of Spider-Man, his costume and equipment, the Marvel version of his hometown New York, and the deadly villains he battles, fans will learn about every facet of the game, from the initial designs, blueprints, and the breathtaking final concepts,” says Titan’s announcement. Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Art of the Game will release on 11 September 2018.
