2)  How much physical space do they use, active and at rest?

Aku really likes to have as much space as possible when active, but prefers cozy when at rest and will curl up when she’s comfortable.

4) What is their size and build? How does it influence how they use their body, if it does?

Medium humanoid if an the tall side, and built like a ufc fighter with a little bodybuilder thrown in. This comes from her need to defend herself through her childhood and teens, extending to a need to keep the people she cares about safe. Though showing off has become a habit, seeing it entertains some of them.

6)  What are they like in motion–in different environments, and in different activities? What causes the differences between these?

When out of cities and towns she likes to really burn her energy and let loose. Full gallop at all times. She’s more mindful in towns and cities, knowing they get annoyed and she’s likely to crash into something expensive or important or breakable. Coming from growing up in West harbour, and being scolded for running in the house.

8) Where and when do they seem most and least at ease? Why? How can you tell?

Most at ease

The Sunken flagon, since hardly anyone comes in that actively dislikes her (Companions excluded) she feels happy there, can drink and be rowdy or be by herself in her room when she feels the need for some space. Sand’s shop/home, the smells of various ingredients and well Sand himself puts her at ease, and comfortable enough to not put on her brave face. She can be worried there without judgement. Her room at Crossroad Keep Since the wards were put on her room she feels it’s secure enough to drop her guard and has decorated it to her liking.

Least at ease

Anywhere her (foster) Father or Bishop is  Something about both of them makes her feel watched and barely tolerated. Like she isn’t supposed to exist and it’s somehow her fault.

Blacklake District / Castle Never It feels way out of her comfort zone with delicate and expensive things she sees no sense in. It makes her feel like she’s drowning in things she doesn’t quite understand, more so than usual.

**Clason City**

The city of Clason is the source of many... unusual events, it had gotten to the point where outsiders were extremely paranoid: resulting in the city having to be independent, eventually even forgotten by the "outside world" though newcomers aren't unheard of, outside family also occasionally visit. (After signing nondisclosure agreements though it's never fully explained why.)

Clason is surrounded by a lot of farmlands which in turn is surrounded by seemingly endless forest. The highway to and from the city seems to be a hotspot for trouble since there's no farmland or general defences between it and the forest, as a result most Monster Hunters (which has become an at least somewhat recognized job though one needs the proper permission to go into that profession).

Clason is devided into different sectors: most genuine Monsters tended to pop up in the Blacklake sector (which is also where the highway connected to the city), the Lightstone sector was paranoid (had specially trained officers and curfews in place and everything), the Redtree sector openly encouraged learning magic (it was an optional subject in the school there even), Coldglow had a problem with the Paranormal, Ashwood and Hellsdoor didn't SEEM to get the memo though (both shared the same police department... of regular officers and authority figures never seemed to believe in monsters nor warn the people). Ironic since most of Hellsdoor are all still recovering from strange memory problems and was the monster central of the area not even a decade ago.... as for Ashwood?

Ashwood is considered to fall under the territory of (the jokingly self proclaimed) Forest Freaks, though only the most advanced Monster Hunters know this and only idiots start a fight with them. (They don't ussualy give second chances after all and any survivor is either very lucky or were granted a rare bit of mercy. Though some do apparently allow temporary escapees, dubbing them their "playthings" but are likely to off them once the fun wears off.)

According to Archivist Clockwork and an older Archivist there is a treaty that had been signed between the group and the main Monster Hunting family a bit before the year 2000 dubbed the "Don't Shoot Bunny" Contract. Bunny is a Wendigo (the traditional deer headed monstrous kind) that guards the borders of where the Forest Freaks live and the agreement can more or less be summed up as: "you stay away from our home and don't hurt our people, we stay away from your home and don't hurt yours" though in all fairness this was signed before the Hunters realized the Freaks are basically immortal and can always hurt you more than you can hurt them. (That said I think the Forest Freaks are justified in not wanting to be shot at every time they go for a walk.)

After being taken from a serially abusive home away from his brother Dallas when he was 6, Dave and his brother Dirk (as well as their baby brother Dannie) are sent to live with another immediate family member, Darien. Darien is a famous movie director, about four or five years older than Dirk and Dave.

As a young adult living the high life and his dreams, Darien resents taking care of his kid brothers, despite how much he cares for them. As a result of his worklife, he isn’t around as much to take care of them.

Like John, Dave takes to video games in order to escape the world around him and to feel comfort about his life (although he prefers SEGA to Nintendo). As well as this, he also enjoys photography and web design from time-to-time.

Dave is left at Camp Blacklake for the summer with his brother, Dirk, due to Darien having to go away on the account of shooting a new movie.

Dave is a typical perky teenager who just wants to be accepted and be cool. He’s more often than not overshadowed by Dirk, but he isn’t normally one to let it bother him. He’s typically apathetic, but has an unseen caring side that comes out every once in a while.

He stays in cabin 4 with John Egbert.

Curiousum’s First Letter

Brother,

I hope this letter finds you in good health. It’s been about three weeks since I departed the cobbled stone streets of Neverwinter and the warm fires of our estate and it pains me slightly to admit how I miss them. One does not truly know the plight of a commoner until they’ve spent a night in a flea infested sack charitably called a bed in a roadside inn or spent a night sleeping outside without one of Father’s Magnificent Tents. It has not been all hardship, though.

I’ve retained the services of a barbarian woman named Kiala to act as a guide and bodyguard as I travel. She is also a Tiefling, so our theories that Tieflings strictly exist within the lineage of noble families with a history of arcane involvement seems to be incorrect. However, I’m not sure of her ancestry, who is to say a noble or somebody of noble blood hadn’t interacted with her tribe in the past? She is a venerable giant of a woman and as strong as a stable of horses. She has refused to address me by my proper title and has instead begun affectionately calling me something in her tribes’ language. At first this was grating, but as her presence has already proven valuable, I’ve come to accept it. On the few nights we’ve spent braving the hardships of the outdoors Kiala’s made the food of her tribe. A beet and onions based soup called “Borshed,” surprisingly and despite appearance it is quite good and warms the insides nicely.   

Sirius, I admit the countryside offers much more beauty that I could have possibly imagined. Not just visually, but the niceties of the common folk have not been lost on me. Despite hardly having enough resources to keep a roof over their head and food on their table they always seem to go out of their way to make sure everybody is cared for and are willing to extend a hand to those in need. The same love our family shares for each other these people extend to complete strangers, and it is a refreshing change from the tedium and banality of the two faced nature of the relationships between noble families.

More recently Kiala and I have heard whispers of a wolf-like beast terrorizing a local town. Kiala, believing the task set upon me by the archmage, includes helping the people I meet as well as simply meeting them and understanding their lives has talked me into going into the woods and investigating these claims. It is worth noting that this town, like every other we’ve been in, does seem to be in need of aide. When I come back home I will have to speak to mother and father about how we, the gentry, and other noble families (as well as the monarchs) could better help these people who are asked to survive with so little. As I’m disconnected from the families finances until I return, the most help I can currently give them is to go with Kiala and investigate these claims so it is what we will set out on the morrow to do.  

Please give mother and father my love, and please inform Skylar that I will be writing them tomorrow’s eve and that they shall receive their next letter within a fortnight of you receiving this one. Tell them my love for them runs deeper than the Sword itself and I think of them daily. The next major city I expect to find myself in is Waterdeep, that is if I can convince Kiala a few days in a city without mudded roads will do us some good. I look forward to seeing yours and Skylar’s replies when I eventually find my way to their cuirior outpost.

The campaign has somewhat of a name now (Basically I named it something so I'd know what file to look in) and there are characters now!!! :D It's a 5 party crew Nathawae Illistyn (an exiled drow paladin with a past that has been forced to flee her home in the underdark and find refuge on the surface) Ylladiel Sarven (cleric and former star elf elf princess and diplomat in the Royal Sarven court) Sivtka the Just (an aasimar fighter seeking glory to boost her to clestialhood in her hopes to destroy the not so secret experiments run by the Red Wizards of Thay) Ugowa Sigerlin (a half-elf sorcereress seeking redemption through curing the weak and aiding the weary; with a gift for bartering with the dead...) Fern Thannes (a prestigious ex-thief, at 18 she was leader of the Blacklake District thieves guild, she believes the guild is laundering large sums money to a mysterious source. While working with you she hopes to find the source)

Guild Introduction {Aria Amberlight}

She had only been in this area for an hour, and already she felt like the murk and sludge that had polluted the waters of Blacklake had stained her skin and clothes. So much for finding a new and brilliant place for a temporary stay, this place was in the middle of a rebel war. Keeping her profile low and slipping through the shadows, the elf's eyes pierce through the dark. It's lucky that she had great vision in a situation like this, it truly came in handy for hazards.

Unfortunately just because she could SEE well, did not mean that she could avoid everything well enough. One slip of a single foot, and Aria found herself stuck in sludge. Seriously, no matter how hard she tried to pull herself out, the sludge was stuck to her like glue. Her jaw tightened, the wood elf settled her weaponry down in order to wipe away some of the nasty gunk. Her wolf, meanwhile, stood on guard. Ears pointed upward, tail still motionless to hone in on his focus.

"Grrrrrrrrrrr...!"

"Hey, quiet down, pup. I'm trying to get out." Aria hushed her comrade, her attention turning back to the stinking muck. Just one more good kick, and she SHOULD be able to slip out...

"Grrrrrrr!!"

"Shh, quiet!"

"GRRRRRRR GRAWW-!"

Quickly, hearing her wolf suddenly burst into a loud snarl, Aria's eyes darts up in time to meet a rotting corpse with the most rank stench that had ever hit her nose.

Body suddenly recoiling back upon instinct, the Ranger felt her hand reach over for her weapons that she had settled down. At the same time, while her wolf had jumped up to take a nice nasty chomp of the zombie's leg, an arm had shot out from the muck and scum.

Startled, a surprised scream rips from the elf's lips when the hand grasps her own arm. The same black goop had dribbled down the sickly pink skin, and with great strength, the zombie's arm attempts to pull her in one direction. Its plan, she could register, was to get her to suffocate in the muck by pulling her in!

"Gross! Get away from me!" Lack of knowledge of such a creature made the Elf scared. Her free hand grasping the hilt of her sword, she swiped and sliced the zombie's arm clean off with one fellow swoop.

A brilliant idea, because now she was free!

A horrible idea, because now the zombie's arm was still latched to her, and it was digging its nails right through the fabric of her leathered shirt.

Cringing in fear, Aria was about to call for her wolf when suddenly-!

WZZT-! A sudden rain of fire arrows came spouting out of nowhere, clipping the zombie arm and causing it to fall right off of her. The rest had made their marks on the sludge zombies in front of her. Each one casting a crimson glow as their bodies burned into a crisp; a scream ripped out from their jaws as her wolf finished the job and tore them apart.

"Hey-! Are you ok? If you can fight, pick up your weapon! There's more incoming!"

The voice-! Aria's attention draws to a pirate-dressed elf who had halts her step right next to her. Her posture tense, arm pulled back as another arrow released from the elf's bow and straight into a zombie's skull. Such a handling of a bow at an expert level, Aria finally snaps her attention to her bow and grabs for it. Her foot pulled free, Aria quickly mimics the other elf's stance.

"I can absolutely fight!" Her words housing confidence, Aria released an array of arrows towards the newly formed sludge zombies. Except, most of them missed... except for one, which had nailed one zombie in the knee. Her wolf, with its fur bristled, tackled the zombies she had not hit, and with the last shower of arrows from the unknown elf beside her, the zombies quickly dissolved into nothingness.

The fight was over before she had the chance to even blink, and still she stood in silence. Simply put, she was bewildered by what she had just seen.

"There. Watch where you're going next time, alright? Next time there might not be another fellow elf to help you out of your sticky situation." A tone that could have been serious, but the other elf's tone held a sense of a knowing tease. Aria should have felt embarrassed by being saved by another person, but in reality, she felt gratitude.

She needed to know how to use her bow at that level, and perhaps... she could help her.

"Wait...!"

The elf had stopped in her tracks, her head turning as a brow raised in curiosity and confusion. Why had Aria stopped her? 

“Please... if it’s not too much trouble, would you guide me to somewhere safe to rest for tonight?” The request is shy, and Aria already felt a heat of embarrassment rise up from her face.

“I know it’s a tall order, but i’m a little desperate... I don’t have much, but I can offer my skills however much you need. I’m great at hunting, and I can weave together some durable clothing made from the cold forest itself.” Her offer fell embarrassingly off her tongue and the elf looks at the other for a quiet moment.

“I promise I won’t get in the way.” 

The expression upon the other elf’s face was unreadable at first. Lips pursing, finger coming up to stroke the side of her chin, she seemed to be contemplating something. The wait was agonizing, and Aria could already feel herself sweat. Her wolf, who had shook the blood off of his fur, had politely settled down by her feet. He, too, was watching the other elf with raised ears. 

Then, she finally spoke. 

“Alright, I think I know where you can stay for now. In fact, I think a guild like mine can use someone like you. Come, I’ll lead the way and show you. Then, when you’re rested up, you can show me what you know based on your bow there.” An arm came forward, awaiting for Aria to grasp the owner’s hand- to which, she did without hesitation. She was not going to miss this moment. 

"I promise you won't regret this! I, Aria Amberlight, shall be as useful as I can be! Mark my words on it!" Her smile couldn’t be happier, and her wolf already sprung to his feet with an excited wag. 

“It’s a pleasure, then! You may call me Nina, and while we’re at it, let’s get out of this stink hole.” A pleased grin on her lips, the two shook hands proudly. Ah yes, this was going to be absolutely perfect for all of them! 

Curious eyes widened in awe, Aria almost collapsed due to exhaustion, tiredness, and bewilderment from hearing about this supposed guild from Nina. Both had found a safe haven away from the monstrosities that lurked in the darkness; gathered by the fire, Aria had questioned where Nina was from, and what life was like here. 

She had answered back about the guild, their mission, what their goals were and what she had been doing here. It all sounded like some kind of fantastic dream, that Aria couldn’t even rip her eyes away from the story telling elf. The way she made it sound was as if the guild was like a home- 

No, not just a home. A place where people were needed.

People like her, and those that needed it. People like herself, too. 

“I would be honored to join, if I may.” Aria began as she began to sip on a wooden cup of water she had been handed. 

“I have actually been searching for so long for something like this.” A sad smile on her lips, the ranger placed her cup down and smiled sincerely at Nina. 

“I may not have a lot to offer... but even though we just met, I will help you fight for the cause. Who knows, maybe a skill or two I have learned from the cold forest will bring you many victories!” She chuckled. Of course, hopefully, that would mean she wouldn’t step into anymore traps!
