The Immanuel Archive #001: The Burning Fate Affair
I found a couple of “official reports” I wrote from when I was playing Interrogator Immanuel in a Dark Heresy campaign in 2015. As the contents are wildly misrepresented to make Immanuel look good not quite accurate, I’ll end with a declassified summary of what actually happened...
[Report #002: The Life Eater Incident]
++ Decryption Request: Vermillion-level clearance required ++
++ Confirm Inquisitorial Cipher Iota Mu ++
++ Welcome, Inquisitor ++
Inquisitor Nicodemus,
It is my solemn duty to report the death of Inquisitor Mordecai of the Ordo Hereticus, who fell in service of the God-Emperor, beloved by all, in battle against the servants on the dark gods.
We had tracked the daemonhost to the headquarters of a local Imperial Cult, the Cult of Burning Fate. At least, it purported to be Imperial. The cult, which was started by the Acolytes Albatron, Trish, and the Witch, had been corrupted by the daemonhost and the many-coloured god.
At the same time as we arrived, Inquisitor Mordecai and Sisters of the Order of the Bloody Rose arrived intending to purge the cult. My offer of assistance appeared to enrage the Witch, who revealed his true allegiance in summoning a herald of the red god. Inquisitor Mordecai battled the beast, and though he fell to its blade his sacrifice gave us the chance to banish it to the abyss.
The cult was purged, though Albatron and Trish protested that the corruption could be uprooted and the cult returned to loyalty. I cannot deny they aided the battle against the red god’s herald, but I cannot help but remain suspicious considering their central role in the founding of the cult. For now they seem more motivated than ever to hunt down the daemonhost, though perhaps more out of rage at the cult’s destruction than its corruption. I recommend that once the daemonhost has been vanquished they be subject to interrogation by means of excruciation to determine their loyalties.
Inquisitor Mordecai’s body was cremated and the ashes sent into the nearest star, as per his living testament. His Rosette survived the battle and remains in my hands, to be returned to the Holy Ordos at the earliest convenience. His arms and armour we have repaired, and unless it is decreed otherwise we have vowed in vengeance that by his arms and armour that the daemonhost shall meet its end.
I have also heard rumours of an assassination on an Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos in the Eastern Fringe. Details are sketchy, I expect my contact heard it third-hand at best, but he was under the impression that the Inquisitor in question had died after reneging on a deal he made with a less than savoury character. He said the Inquisitor’s death had concerned an eclipse, which may suggest some symbolic or mystical element.
In any case, vague though the rumours are I believe it bears at least brining to the attention of Inquisitorial agents operating in the Eastern Fringe.
Given that at least one, if not two, Inquisitors have recently died in action in the region, I suspect communications may be being traced. For security reasons I suggest you send any reply or further instruction via a psyber-owl.
In the name of the God-Emperor, beloved by all,
Immanuel

Declassified: How It Really Happened
I joined the campaign after it had already been going for a few months - the party consisted of a warrior wielding what he didn’t know was a daemon sword (Albatron, the player has a history of bird-themed names), a preacher (Trish), a psyker (Pitt, a.k.a. the Witch), a tech-priest (I can’t remember his name but we called him Casserole, a.k.a. the Tin Man), and a pariah arbitrator (Dreddus, a.k.a. the Blacksoul). Albatron, Trish, and Pitt had started their own cult. Unfortunately, Maalik, a daemonhost of Tzeentch (the many-coloured god, Immanuel refers to all the gods in this style) and the campaign’s Big Bad, corrupted it. So far, so honest.
Summoning a Herald of Khorne is... well it happened, it just happens that it was legitimately an accident caused by Perils of the Warp. I'm pretty sure Mordecai defeated the daemon and then we murdered him.
Immanuel took every opportunity to heap suspicion on the other acolytes because he was secretly a servant of the outcast god Malal. He was fond of excruciation.
Mordecai’s body... was definitely not cremated. After the mission Immanuel went looking for signs of a black market dealing in Chaos artefacts in the underhive, following secret sigils in the dark tongue to an auction. There, the GM placed a Rubricae as the main attraction, reasoning that I had nothing valuable to bid with. Only, I had the body and blood of an Inquisitor. Immanuel sold Mordecai’s corpse for a Rubricae. I removed his crest, painted him black, and claimed he was a Black Shield named Brother Reubius (Ruby for short) - controlled with very weak telepathy. Ruby will feature in Report #002.
The rumours about the death of an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor was a tip I got from someone at the auction when buying an eclipse pulsator that used to belong to said Inquisitor before their untimely demise.
The psyber-owl was fishing for gear as I had failed to acquire one earlier. It worked. I named him Archimedes.

The Immanuel Archive #002: The Life Eater Incident
Interrogator Immanuel’s second and last report, as he was lost in the Warp during the next mission after losing a game of regicide to a Lord of Change. As previously, a declassified section on what actually happened at the end.
[Report #001: The Burning Fate Affair]
++ Decryption Request: Vermillion-level clearance required ++
++ Confirm Inquisitorial Cipher Iota Mu ++
++ Welcome, Inquisitor ++
Inquisitor Nicodemus,
After receiving your instructions to investigate the heretical cult of the green god in Hive Tertius, I made haste to acquire the services of a Witch given that there had not yet been time for your appointed replacement acolyte to arrive. One of the females in our warband was the interim Witch I hired, the other is merely a shield-maiden to Albatron.
Whilst I went about this, I was approached by Brother Reubius, who evidently was also conducting investigations of his own. Noticing my rosette, he asked my assistance in dealing with a heretical cult in Hive Tertius – given that this was the mission you had assigned me, I gladly accepted. Brother Reubius is not greatly forthcoming with information about himself, he describes himself as a “sort of Black Shield” in the service of the Inquisition. From what I gather this means he has either forsaken or been exiled from his Chapter, or else is its last survivor, and has pledged his service to an Inquisitor, though he did not say to whom. I did not think it wise to press the matter with him.
We hunted the cult down, slaying many heretics and interrupting their attempts to release the life eater virus into the hive. After a brief appearance in the battle to the ritual site, the Blacksoul appears to have disappeared. Had we adopted a more subtle approach we may well have gone undetected, but would doubtless also have arrived too late. As it was we arrived at the eleventh hour, beating even Inquisitor Octavius of the Ordo Malleus and the Grey Knights. They aided us in dispelling the fallout of the disrupted ritual, and Inquisitor Octavius has taken custody of the life eater virus.
After Inquisitor Octavius and the Grey Knights had departed, so as not to damage your reputation, I voiced my concerns that Albatron’s blade contained one of the red god’s neverborn children. He seemed genuinely surprised, in spite of the evident frenzying effect the blade had on him in combat. He willingly surrendered the blade, which I destroyed, banishing the neverborn back to the abyss. It is likely this blade was forged by the heretic Witch we slew in the Burning Fate affair, and suggests the Witch’s influence still has a wide-ranging reach. All the more reason to keep a close eye on Albatron and Trish.
I know you and I differ in our regard to a stealthy approach, I have always maintained that letting the enemy see me coming will put the fear of the God-Emperor into them. That does not mean I feel the need to be unnecessarily forthcoming about my investigations to those tangential to it. We (that is, everyone except the Tin Man), had devised a plan by which we would capture and confront the imposter Chancellor en route between hives. Had we been able to proceed with this plan, we would have discovered you far away from Hive Primus and been able to maintain your cover. As it was, the Tin Man displayed an arrogant refusal to submit to Imperial authority typical of the Adeptus Mechanicus and disobeyed my direct order as an Interrogator of the Ordo Hereticus to report to the Governor. This in turn led directly to forcing our hand to move against the imposter Chancellor early, revealing your identity to the Governor, whom we now know to be a heretic himself. I do not think it can be ruled out that the Tin Man is, or was, in the employ of the Governor, even if he did not know he was a heretic, and a close eye must be kept on him with a view to interrogation when the matter has been dealt with.
In the name of the God-Emperor, beloved by all,
Immanuel

Declassified: How It Really Happened
Immanuel was not a fan of witches. He did not hire a witch. Rather, Pitt somehow reincarnated in female form from the shattered remains of his force sword. Which were kept in Immanuel’s basement (along with torture victims in various states of cannibalisation). Immanuel tried to kill her. I should add that the mention of the women (Immanuel calls them females because he has no people skills) was because Nicodemus accused us of running around with ‘a bunch of floozies’. Probably because Pitt 2.0 initially had to use biomancy to wrap her hair around herself as while Immanuel reluctantly agreed not to kill her, he refused to give her clothes. He’s a real asshole.
Brother Reubius, as mentioned in Report #001, was in fact a Rubricae whom Immanuel was controlling with telepathy. Had to be careful to stay far enough away from Dreddus as he cancelled out Immanuel’s psychic powers. Sadly it turned out the daemonhost Maalik was an ascended Thousand Son, and recognised Ruby as Ramases before taking control (Maalik and Ramases briefly appear in my 30k fic Photep). Sadly Ruby didn’t survive.
Octavius was able to tell Immanuel was marked by Malal and had a stern word with him. He said he was gonna tell Nicodemus, but if he ever did it was after Immanuel disappeared.
Watch Immanuel continue to slander Pitt even after his death.
Turns out Nicodemus was undercover as the Chancellor, and Casserole the Tin Man blew his cover by refusing to follow the rest of the party’s plan. Teamwork! Great opportunity to try and cast doubt on his loyalty to the Inquisitor though.
