Pairing: Bjorn Ironside x Female Reader
Summary: Your relationship is dying, about to die and you know the only way to get better was to end the relationship. Before you could end the relationship, you find out that he was unfaithful the entire time you were together. Leaving you heartbroken and carrying his unborn child inside of you. As well as your sons.
Author's Note: This is to help those who may be suffering through a heartbreaking break-up or a divorce. This is my love letter to you and I hope you find yourself forgiving yourself for whatever might have caused it to happen.
Tumblr media
You found out a week ago and now you couldn't even bring yourself to even look at him. "You are lucky we never got married." You say to him. "You are lucky our children are too young to understand any of this and once I leave, you are never seeing the one that is yet to be born."
You didn't want to hear more of his pathetic excuses, as you packed the carriage getting ready to move to a farm near the village. It was the only place you could afford on such short notice. The children would have to go to the village school and you'd have to find work. The thought of leaving everything you'd built together was almost unbearable, you knew you couldn't stay. He'd never change. He'd always be a selfish, careless man who put his own pleasures above everything else.
Luckily, you were only three months pregnant and you were able to hide your condition from him until now. It was a small mercy. As you left the house, your heart felt like it was being ripped out of your chest. You clutched the reins of the carriage, taking deep breaths to steady your nerves. You knew that you had made the right decision, it still hurt and it still stung. He made his bed and now you intend to force him to stay inside of it.
Before you and your young children could leave that afternoon, you heard a voice from further away, the carriage was packed with your luggage and all your children were aware of. They were going to their grandmother's for a while. They were excited, unaware of the real reason why they were leaving, or that they were leaving their father behind. They were waiting inside of the carriage, their small whispers excited by the fact they were going to be able to see ducks, chickens, and other animals that their grandmother kept.
You heard him mutter something. You ignored him. You trusted him, you loved him and you thought you had a good life together. You had no idea that he was so unhappy. It was too late now. There was nothing you could do about it. You couldn't go back in time and change the past. All you could do now was focus on the future and make sure your children grow up in a happy, healthy environment.
Once you were on the road to the farm, you stepped into the carriage and into another life for you. For your children and the one that would be born soon. It wasn't the best option, but it was the only option that seemed to fit with what you need.
Your mother would be happy with the arrangement. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than what you had before. The farm was small, but it was self-sufficient. You could grow your own food, milk the cows, tend to the chickens, and make a living off the land. It was honest work, and it was all that you could ask for. Until you could possibly heal and move on, this would have to do.
Your mother, Freyja, "I am sorry things ended this way my dear," she said to you as you walked into the cabin, the scent of freshly baked bread filling the air. "But I'm glad you're here with me now. We'll make the best of it." She put her arm around you, her strength surprisingly comforting. "Now, let's get you settled in and we'll talk about how you'll help around the farm. Then we can organize where you and your children can sleep. How does that sound?"
You nodded, trying to muster up a smile. You knew your mother meant well, but the thought of living here, so far away from Bjorn, was almost unbearable. You had to remind yourself that it was for the best. For your children's sake, you had to protect them from their father's selfish ways. Your children ran around the field, your mother's dogs keeping watch over them, their laughter filling the air. It was a peaceful scene, one that you hoped would become routine for you all.
Your father passed when you were young, you didn't know much about him other than he was faithful to your mother to a fault. You were one out of five children they had together, you were raised by her and her alone after your father died. You wonder how she managed to do so on her own for so long after his death.
You asked your mother, "How did you manage to grieve and still care for us?"
She looked at you with a small smile and said, "It wasn't easy, my dear. There were days when I thought I couldn't go on. But I had to, for you and your siblings. Your father wasn't the best, but he certainly wasn't the worst and I thank my lucky stars that I met him when I did. Even if it was for a little while. The world was peaceful, and I had you all to take care of. The work on the farm kept me busy, and in time, it became a part of me. It's all I've ever known. You are not to blame for what he decided to do."
To her you would always be her little girl, her little angel who couldn't do wrong and she would always be there for you, no matter what. Your siblings had grown up and started their own lives, but you and your mother were still very close. You would help her around the farm, tend to the animals, and grow the crops. It was hard work, but you enjoyed being outdoors and being close to nature. Life on the farm was simple, yet fulfilling. She was there for you, just like she was there for her siblings when they needed her.
You would heal. You would learn to forgive and move forward. You were determined to find someone that will love all of you.

i’ll never forgive bjorn for treating siggy bad, so take this🤪 (kinda fix-it, kinda not)

REQUESTS/ASKS OPEN!!!
“shhh little siggy,” you coo as you rock the small girl around in your arms. “do not cry, everything is okay.” she’s been fussy for hours now and nothing seemed to be able to calm her down.
you didn’t know what to do. you’d tried everything already. so, the only solution you knew was to search for your mistress aslaug. she made caring for siggy your main task but told you to search for her when you didn’t know what to do.
you keep the girl to your chest, a blanket draped over her as you make your way towards the great hall. surely aslaug would be there…
one of the men in front of the hall helps you open the heavy wooden door and you give him a thankful smile. once you’re inside you freeze. aslaug wasn’t there. or so it seemed.
two pairs of eyes stared at you. ragnar and…bjorn.
you slightly bow and press siggy to your chest. you knew bjorn wasn’t fond of his daughter. otherwise he would be the one caring for her, not some slave that his stepmother owned.
“i’m sorry my lord,” you hastily apologize, already retreating. “i—i was searching for queen aslaug.” you wince when siggy starts to cry again. you wanted her to stop, but you didn’t know how.
ragnar keeps his gaze on your before he stands up without a word. you swallow, your grip on the girl tightening. slowly the king walks towards you, extending his arms once he came to a halt in front of you.
“give my granddaughter to me, will you,” he mumbles and what where you supposed to say? no? you hesitatingly pull siggy away from your chest and give her to ragnar.
he smiles down at her once he cradles her in his arms, slightly rocking her around. “look at you,” he whispers. “are you making trouble, mhh?” he wants to know, tickling her cheek with his finger.
you carefully watch ragnar as he holds the little girl in his arms, your eyes drifting over to bjorn. the oldest prince still sat at the table, his gaze fixated on his father and daughter.
“come here bjorn,” ragnar waves his son over, his eyes never leaving siggy. “you have not seen your daughter in months.” you only stand in front of your king, head bowed.
bjorn doesn’t follow his fathers command. that makes ragnar scoffs and shake his head. “what did i expect?” he mutters beneath his breath before he looks up at you. “what’s your name?”
you lift your head, not daring to look into his eyes as you tell him your name. ragnar hums in acknowledgment and places siggy against his chest. “where do you sleep?” he asks the next question.
“queen aslaug gifted me a small hut,” you reply, fumbling with your hands. why would he want to know where you live and sleep? “my main task is to raise siggy.”
ragnar looks back at bjorn, than at you again. “you will move in with bjorn,” he then says and your eyes widen. bjorn jumps up from his stool.
you immediately shake your head, stumbling over your words. “my lord, i—i can’t do that!” you shake your head. but ragnar just scoffs and shrugs.
“you can and you will. i just ordered you to.” the older man ignored his furious son while he watches siggy giggle. “take two men and let them help you move,” he gestures, not bothering to look at you. “i want to spend some time with my precious granddaughter…”
you swallow and bow your head. you knew you couldn’t defy him. he owned you, he could make you do whatever he wanted… “of course my lord,” you whisper as you retreat to do as you were told.
-
the next weeks feel like pure torture to you. bjorn doesn’t look at you or his daughter, he doesn’t talk to you, he doesn’t acknowledge you. he just comes and goes, always a new woman in tow.
you try to get siggy out of the house as much as possible so you both don’t need to witness it. it disgusted you. thankfully queen aslaug allowed you to stay with her during the day, helping her keep an eye on her boys.
“does he treat you well?” aslaug asks you one day and you freeze. could you tell her the truth? because right now, bjorn was treating you like a piece of trash.
you hesitate with your answer before you look at her, “he…does not hit me. if that is what you mean,” you mumble, continuing to braid siggy’s short hair.
aslaug purses her lips. “that is not what i mean,” she says, placing her hand on your shoulder. “tell me the truth,” she softly urges. “please.”
you look up from siggy’s hair and look at your queen. “he doesn’t talk to me,” you—truthfully—answer, biting the inside of your cheek. “i try to be out with siggy as often as possible because…because he keeps brining women over…”
aslaug hums along in acknowledgment, gently squeezing your shoulder. “you can leave and go back to you old hut, you know,” she says and you shake your head.
“i can not… king ragnar has ordered me.” you say in a whisper, averting your gaze. “i can’t just leave…”
“you can, if i make you a free woman.”
your head shoot’s up and you look at aslaug. “what?” your voice is breathless, almost not audible as you stare at your queen.
she smiles and squeezes your shoulder again. “i can make you a free woman. then you can take siggy and move back to your old hut. it would be up to you wether you want to still work for me or not…”
“thank you, my queen,” you breathe out, tears gathering in your eyes. “i don’t know if i can ever repay you for that…”
aslaug chuckles, “you taking care of siggy is enough payment.”
-
you stuff your stuff into a small leather bag, siggy strapped to your chest. you wanted to leave without bjorn noticing; you doubted he would notice anyways.
just when you were about to leave the door flies open and his hulking frame fills the frame. “where are you going?” he asks in a deep grunt, crossing his arms in front of his shoulders.
“i’m leaving,” you swallow. “i’m moving back to my hut.”
he slowly walks towards you, “you can’t do that. you know what my father has ordered.” his eyes fall to siggy on your chest and narrow.
“queen aslaug has made me a free woman,” you reply, placing your hand on the back of siggy’s head. “she gave me the freedom to chose and i decided that i will move back to my hut.”
your voice is firm and determined—you didn’t know where you got the confidence to stand up to him like that.
bjorn frowns and takes another step into your direction. “a free woman, huh?” his eyes bore into yours, something dangerous and unpredictable in them. “then we shall marry.”
your jaw goes slack as you stare at bjorn. “what?” that’s all you can say. you’re at a loss of words. why in all that’s holy did he want to get married to you? he had all those women and now that you’re a free woman he says that’s he wants to marry you?
“you’re a free woman now and siggy needs a mother, someone who’ll care for her.” bjorn shrugs, keeping his eyes on you while he talks.
a sarcastic laugh leaves your lips and you shake your head with a scoff. “maybe her father should man the fuck up and start to care for his daughter!”
“you know nothing about me and siggy,” bjorn snarls, grabbing the braid at the back of your head. “you do not know what she reminds me of, what she makes impossible to forget.”
you hiss in pain, having no other choice than to look at bjorn. “i lost my child and my husband,” you say in a low voice. “do you see me fucking everything with two legs and a dick? so you see me leaving siggy in the dirt?” your gaze is hard and your words hit him like nothing he ever felt. “every time i look at her i see what i could’ve had, being in her presence is painful for me but still i don’t behave like a child!”
you rip your head away from his grip and somehow manage to slip past him. he doesn’t move. you look back at him, and press siggy’s head to your chest. “grow up and learn to live with the pains of life, bjorn.”
-
you slender over the market, siggy strapped to your chest and a basket in your hand. it’s been three weeks, maybe four since you let bjorn’s hut and it was hard for you to believe but he actually made amends to see and get to know his daughter.
he was visiting almost daily and by now you felt sure enough to leave them both alone for two to three hours while you went to work for aslaug.
but right now you were alone, trying to run a few errands. siggy was babbling along and you smiled down at her. she was such a sweetheart…
you came to a hold in front of a vegetable stand, eying the few vegetables with a slight frown on your face.
“they’re all fresh,” the young farmer smiles, offering you a tomato. “harvested just this morning.” you smile at him and take the vegetable.
you turn it in your hand, looking down at siggy. “should we take some of those?” you ask her and she giggles along. you chuckle and look at the farmer.
“how much for a few of those?” you want to know, tilting your head in question.
the farmer smirks and takes the tomato from your hand. “i’ll give them to you for free. it’s not often i see such a pretty young lady roaming the market all on her own.” he winks at you and you feel yourself blush.
“why, thank you,” you chuckle while you place a few tomatoes in your basket. “this is very kind of you.” there’s a small smile on your face and a certain twinkle in your eyes.
just when you were about to leave you felt someone behind you and a hand extended to place a few coins on the stand in front of you. “don’t flirt with my fiancée,” a familiar voice threatens and you can see the farmer slowly nod.
you bite the inside of your cheek and turn towards bjorn. you stare up at him, ready to say something but all he does is—gently—grab your shoulder and pull you away.
“we talked about this,” you grumble as bjorn takes your basket, completely ignoring your words. “i said i won’t marry you.” you stop walking, placing your hands on your hips.
bjorn groans and turns around. “do i look like i care? i want to be the father my daughter deserves and you are the one taking care of her,” he argues. “it is only natural we marry. after all, i do not want to separate the both of you.”
he takes a step in your direction. “i know i made mistakes and i am sorry but i am willing to make this work out.” his hand itches towards your face.
“you don’t love me, bjorn.” your voice is a sigh and you turn your head away.
“but i can try.”
(excuse this shitty ending HELP😭. i’m debating if i should write a pt.2 tho😭)

Title: In This Life Pairing: Halfdan x fem!Reader Rated: T Summary: If not in this life, then you will be reunited in the next to the joyous resounding of Valhalla's horns. I am rewatching Vikings and my love for Halfdan is off the charts again.
THE CACOPHONOUS SOUNDS of battle echo around you, but every cry and clang of iron against steel is muted by the haunting and forlorn voice of Halfdan the Black before either side ever met on the open field. Þat mælti mín móðir, he sang, the woods reverberating with the age-old song, mér skyldi kaupa. With a cry, you lift your shield —painted blue and black for Bjorn Ironside and Lagertha— blocking a blow from one of Harald Finehair’s men and then another.
You push forward through the sluggishness of your limbs and the blood and sweat stinging your eyes, lashing out with a tight sword thrust. The man in front of you bellows in pain, axe falling from his grasp as he looks down at the sword hilt pressed tight against leathers. As quickly as one foe falls, another takes their place. You spin, searching for Halfdan in the madness, and lift your shield once again —nigh too late.
Timbers crack under the weight of a bloodstained maul wielded by a brute, three times your size, his eyes burning with bloodfever. The impact forces you onto your back. You fall, you die. Your father’s words as clear in your mind as if he lay beside you speaking them now. You roll to your side, chest heaving as you watch the maul embed into the soft earth where you had just lain.
The shield shatters —splinters flying— and you scramble back from the berserker. The earth beneath your hands and boots slick with mud and gore, but against your outstretched arm, you feel the leather-wrapped hilt of a sword. Pushing up from the muck, you drive the sword upward into the brute’s neck, ripping it free with a hoarse shout. And still, you can hear Halfdan singing with his brother above everything.
You stumble on your feet, vision blurring and strength fleeting —the battle feels endless, and you have lost count of the lives taken by your blade. Gasping, you press your hand to your side, to the source of the burning pain. A splinter of your blue-and-black shield protrudes at the edge of your mail shirt. Your shaking hand comes away painted bright red. Looking skyward, you find two ravens circling overhead, and everything slows. The Allfather watches. In a heartbeat, you wrench the splinter free from flesh, dropping the jagged piece of wood. Blood sluices down the front of your armor. There is nothing to staunch the bleeding. The threads of fate inescapable.
Through the mist and beyond the bloodshed, there is a lull in the fight as two brothers meet. Your feet carry you of their own accord toward Halfdan and Harald. You are almost there when Harald swings his blade downward, and your scream will forever haunt him.
YOU SIT NEXT to Halfdan as he sharpens the edge of his axe. One final stroke of the whetstone, and he sets the weapon aside, turning to you, his beloved. Halfdan presses his forehead against yours, rough fingers trailing over your soft cheek and around to the braid binding your hair. “You are ready?” You ask, unable to hide the tremble in your voice and bottom lip. This battle is more than just a squabble for land or a title. It is a war amongst brothers. And this morning feels different.
For so long, you stood by Harald and Halfdan. A shieldmaiden and stalwart friend, unwavering. Harald believed you to love him and his brother equally, and yet, when the time to choose came —you broke oath and faith, following your heart. You know you would make the same decision a hundred times over without regret when Halfdan places his lips upon yours. His kiss is bittersweet, both a promise and a goodbye.
“The gods have already decided the outcome of today,” he breathes, unable to look away from your eyes —as though he can see his fate within. The strings of destiny had been woven by the Norns long ago, and no one could escape the knots and threads. “If I am meant to die” —his lips brush over your cheek— “then I am ready for Valhalla.” Should either of you fall today, the Valkyries would be waiting to carry you home, and there would be celebrations in Odin’s halls.
You lean back, gaze flitting across his face —committing the soft look in his dark and warm eyes to memory and tattoos and scars on his face too. Reaching for him, you push aside the strands of golden hair that fell across his face. You will make sure you remember him if the gods mean to part you this day. “If we are meant to live?” You ask, cupping his face in your hands.
His lips twitch upward. “The sea calls,” Halfdan answers. If you are meant to survive the day, Halfdan will ferry you away from this life of bloodshed with a crew of trusted drengr to sail the open waters. A dream you and he discussed many waking nights since seeing the distant lands to the south and beyond. If you are meant to live, he will take the only woman he’s ever loved to be his wife.
The cry of a war horn is both far off and too near. Its low rumble echoing through the misty woods. Silence falls over everyone within the camp —the time had come. Before you part, you take another kiss. You would remember the feel of his lips against yours to spur you through the coming fight. “I will see you on the other side,” you whisper, tracing the fading blue-black of his tattoos. “In this life or the next.” Halfdan has a sinking feeling in his gut that it will be the latter.
TIME FALLS STILL when Halfdan falls to his knees before his brother. Odin and Thor breathe strength into you yet. You punch through those standing in your path, sliding to your knees to break his fall. “Halfdan.” You breathe, looking upon him through hot tears. His dark eyes are unfocused and unblinking. His blood stains your hands as you press against the weeping gash on his neck. It is too late. The Valkyries must keep him now. Drawing in a slow breath, you place your split lips against his forehead, a final kiss, before laying him gently on a field watered with blood. In this life or the next, you think, turning your gaze skyward again, wailing at how it feels to have your heart snatched from your chest.
On shaking legs, you rise —barely able to stand straight— sword in hand. “What have you done?!” You cry, moving toward Harald, swinging your blade in a sloppy, wide arc. He steps back, and you come for him again. This time, he blocks the blow, knocking the sword from your blood-slick hands. Harald lowers his sword. Already he had slain his brother. He will not raise his blade against another he loves today.
He shakes his head. “I will not fight you,” he grits out, voice shaking. I cannot, is what he means. Harald knows the look in your fevered eyes —one of grief and madness that will see you follow his brother into the Hall of the Slain. “Do not ask me to kill you.” It is almost a plea, even with the taste of betrayal bitter on his tongue.
"Bacraut!" You shout, falling to your knees as he turns his back to rejoin the fray. The moment’s reprieve brings another wave of pain, washing over you like the sea breaking on a rocky shore. Head hanging low, you know the Valkyries call to you on this day too. The front of your mail shirt and tunic beneath are stained red, as is the thigh of your britches. There is no going back.
You press your hand against the gaping puncture and reach for your sword, using it as a crutch to stand. The gods grant you one final breath. Gripping tight to the hilt, you run, shouting for all to bear witness, and when Harald turns, you fall upon his sword. His eyes are wide, lips parted in disbelief as he looks down. You drop your sword and grip onto Harald’s shoulders, pulling yourself closer to him and farther onto the blade. You inhale, then choke, sputtering as blood fills your mouth and trickles from your lips. Despite the pain, you are at peace —ready to greet the winged women and the Allfather with a smile upon your lips.
Harald pulls his sword back, then drops the bloody blade and holds you against him, unable to hide his anguish. Your legs give, and he eases you to the ground, feeling your lifeblood seep betwixt his fingers —a permanent stain no water will be able to cleanse. Ravens circle in the grey clouds. The horns of the Valkyries resound across the battlefield, heard only by the dead and dying. Harald glances to the sky. “Go,” he sighs, lips ghosting over your brow, “Valhalla awaits.” They will have gained two of the strongest fighters he’s ever known, and the battles will be all the richer for it. “Halfdan awaits,” he whispers. A faint smile twists your lips. You can taste the honey-sweet of Odin’s mead on your lips already. One final breath, then your eyes slip shut, never to open in this life again.

Your eyes were open, but you were laying silently in your shared bed, you wouldn't dare move from your spot under the bear furs. Bjorn was standing next to the entrance of your bedroom. With his back facing you, you could see the definition of his muscles with the swaying light of the fire. You knew why he was awake. Even if he had been careful not to wake you, since the birth of your first son you've had a light sleep. And you weren't stupid eighter. You knew he had nightmares. But you knew better than to ask about them. He was a secretive man after all. You could faintly hear your son snoring the in the next room. You closed your eyes to pretend to sleep when Bjorn turned toward the bed. He sighed.
Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were.
You felt his finger stroke against your cheeks. You sensed the bed stir under his weight. The cold air of the night entering bed when he took his place by your side again. He set his hand on your pregnant belly, nudging his cold nose in the crook of your neck.
‘’I know you are not asleep.’’ his voice was hoarse, maybe because of the ale he took the night before, but then again, he was a free man. Perhaps it was because of his sudden awakening, anyway,  you were not to ask about his nightmares.
‘’I did not want to bother you.’’ You whispered, careful to not wake your son. He was still young and hard to put to sleep. Even if he did sleep through all of his night now, he was as stubborn as his father.
Old man look at my life Twenty-four and there is so much more.
Bjorn hummed lowly in the crook of your neck.  He was beginning to fall back into the spell of Nott. Tonight was not the time he would open up about his feelings. Lagertha was well aware of his night terrors. And she did not shy away from telling you how concerned she was about Bjorn and his dark dreams. That was the reason you knew about those dreams. But you didn't want Bjorn to feel obligated to talk about them with you. You rolled on your back and raised one of your hand toward his hairs to touch them. As you patted his braid, he murmured in satisfaction and pressed himself a little bit more against you.  His head now on top of your breast. You smiled a little and closed your eyes for the second time. His hands on your pregnant belly, rubbing it slowly while you were falling to sleep.
Old man take a look at my life I'm a lot like you I need someone to love me the whole day through Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true.
Lagertha was looking at his son and her grandson, Skuli, playing outside of her house. Has (Y/N) was cooking dinner by herself inside. Her stomach was growing wider and rounder with each months passing. Bjorn came back inside with his son on his back and a smile on his face.  Having his wife and his mother with him was making him happy. He took his son down his shoulder to put him on the ground. The toddler totted toward his mother with determination. He gripped his fist on the dress she was wearing, making her look down to him. Bjorn kissed the top of her head and (Y/N) leaned into his touch more, her back against his chest. Lagertha smiled. Skuli took (Y/N)'s attention away from Bjorn and Lagertha walked up to him.
‘’You are a lot like your father.’’ She said. Bjorn looked at her confused. But without adding more, Lagertha made her way toward her daughter-in-law and her grandson. Letting Bjorn wonder if what her mother had said was true.
I've been first and last, look at how the time goes past. But I'm all alone at last, rolling home to you.
Bjorn was holding his newborn daughter in his arms for the first time that night. You had spent hours screaming. The labor pains were to blame, but seeing the euphoric look that was now on his face was worth it. A difficult birth, but you had been strong and managed to get her out on your own. Two days of labors and pains, yet you were glowing of joy. Bjorn was too proud to cry, even if it was in front of you. But you could see the tears threatening to fall as he held the baby close to his heart. Kissing her head gently, he looked at you with a smile.
''She is so beautiful, elska. Any of the gods would be lucky to have her.'' His eyes went back to his daughter's face. ''I want her to be called Idunn.''
You smiled. If it was how Bjorn was feeling, you were not going to call her something else. She was, after all, your little goddess of the spring.
''Idunn is a wonderful name, elska.''
Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were. Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were.

kinda fucked up to cheat on your wife with your moms girlfriend💀 (wtf bjorn???)
(bjorn ironside x fem!reader)

(masterlist | join my tag list!)
REQUESTS/ASKS OPEN!!!
you sit in yours and bjorn’s hut, cradling your youngest son to your chest as silent tears make their way down your cheeks. you thought he would’ve been different. you thought he would’ve been better than his father but…he wasn’t.
you’d see him. you’d seen him kiss her, cradle her to his chest. and you felt disgusted. he’d told you that he loves you, made sure to show you but apparently all those words and actions were false promises.
you sniffle and wipe away your tears, looking at the little boy in your arms. how could bjorn do this to you? to your son?
“look at you, my baby,” you softly whisper in a broken voice, your eyes still glossy from the tears you’d shed. “it’s just me and you, mhh? you’re the only one who’ll stay true to me, won’t you…”
-
it was evening when bjorn came back home and you were already in bed, your son leif fast asleep in his crib. you refuse to look at your husband, not acknowledging him while he changes into his night clothes and slides into bed beside you.
you can feel him shift and place his arms around your waist. your body stiffens and your breath catches in your throat. when he starts to trail kisses down your neck and bite the inside of your cheek and push his hands away.
“not today, bjorn,” you mutter while you scoot further away from him.
a frown appears on his face as he watches your back. “what is it darling?” he wants to know, his voice soft. he just wanted to hold you in his arms.
you let out a huff. how dare he? “what is it?” you turn around to face him. “i’ll tell you what it is!” you slightly raise your voice. “i saw you bjorn,” you hiss. “i saw you with her.”
bjorn’s eyes widen at your words and he opens his mouth to talk but you cut him off.
“what is it that i have done wrong?” you question while you throw your hands in the air. “have i not given you enough sons already? have i not been a submissive wife? do i not look good enough? are you ashamed of me?” the words leave your mouth without even giving him a real chance to answer.
you stare at him, your eyes furious. “answer me!” you demand.
bjorn opens his mouth again, “i—i don’t love her,” he says, popping his body up on his elbows. “it was a one—okay, maybe two or three time thing but—” he gets interrupted when your hand collides with his cheek.
you scramble out of the bed, searching for a simple day dress to pull over your body. “how dare you!” you hiss as him, your eyes full of fury.
bjorn flexes his jaw before he also stands up to slowly walk towards you. “it meant nothing darling,” he tries to reason but you just huff.
“sex never means nothing!” you put on your dress and fasten the strings at the back.
your husband sighs and tries to put a hand on your shoulder—you swat his hand away. “please, listen to me. i dont love her, i only love you.” his voice is calm as he speaks and you wish you could rip out his vocal cords.
“you don’t love me,” you say. “a man that loves his wife wouldn’t do something like that.”
“please,” bjorn tries again, the look in his eyes hurt when he sees you pick up leif from his crib. he didn’t want you to leave…
you turn towards him and sneer. “would you take it lightly if i fucked another man?” you questioned as you walk towards the door. “would you believe me if i told you i love you after doing that?”
bjorn doesn’t answer, just looks at you. but you can see it in his eyes, he wouldn’t believe you. he would’ve kicked you out.
your jaw is tense. “i thought so,” you say before you open the door. “i’ll stay with floki and helga. don’t try to talk to me.” bjorn still doesn’t talk when you leave the hut, disappearing into the night…
bjorn knew he fucked up. he knew he lost you. and he knew it was his fault. his fault alone.
