hair growth n length retention infodump xx
each hair follicle is connected to a blood supply. healthy blood flow is partially what stimulates hair growth. that’s why there are so many hair-growth tips that involve increasing circulation to the follicle ( such as scalp massages, warm oil applied to the scalp, or turning ur head upside down ). i used to do the warm oil + scalp massage method n it’s tried + true ! just warm up an oil to a suitable temp, apply to the scalp as a pre-poo, then massage in for at least sixty seconds. but if u can go even longer, that works. do this at least once a day!
edit: i meant at least once a * week * lol but u can do more if u would like. i’d advise a daily massage, with once to twice a week, incorporating a warm oil. x
moisture n oil are key due to the way they keep the hair strands flexible n resistant!!! first of all… blk girls… idgaf what people say. wash ur hair once a week to once every two weeks!!! a proper shampoo n conditioning are one of the main ways we keep our hair n scalps from being too dry. and blk hair has a tendency to drying out due to the fact that blk people produce less sebum. n bc we tend to have curlier / coilier / kinkier / coarser / thicker hair, it takes more work for sebum to travel down the hair shaft. the drier the hair = the more likely u are to lose hair. so keep it washed n moisturized.
then combine w an oil. this can be ur body’s natural sebum production, creams, butters, or oils such as jojoba, coconut, peppermint, tea tree, n olive. 🫒🥥 without stimulating the scalp, oil won’t necessarily promote hair growth but it does promote length retention ! “an inch retained is an inch grown.” most stagnancy in hair growth is due to the fact that hair is brittle / weak / split. gotta remember that hair is dead - so u gotta be gentle with it to keep it lively in spite of that.
what can help w dryness aside from moisture, deep conditions, n treatments is trimming !!! routine trims make the most difference in the growth of ur hair imo. sacrifice half of a centimeter to an inch in order to retain three inches of hair! it’s a very logical trade off. try to trim around once every 6 - 8 wks. don’t gotta be a lot. just depends on ur goal
then ofc, what u consume has a correlation to hair growth. everyone’s body works differently so figure out what works for u :p
Tumblr media
astro vocab
blood flow n circulation is martian
skin ( scalp ) n hair is saturnian
hair loss is martian n solar, due to the bilious nature of those planets. there is a correlation between hair loss n bile production
hair loss is also correlated to saturn, due to saturn ruling over dryness ( dry skin + hair )
moisturization is the moon, and so is sebum
remedy mars n sun by eating foods that promote digestion as well as boosting a healthy liver !!! biotin ( vitamin b7 ) can def help with hair growth as well. abstain from alcoholism. this can help with the bilious nature of those planets
u can also remedy mars n sun’s bilious natures n promote healthy bile production by consuming ‘ healthy fats. ’ fat is not bad for u !!! it’s actually very important. u just gotta know which fats. use spices. nd use acids ( such as acv ). u can remedy saturn by being vegetarian. if not vegetarian, at least plant-based n try to abstain from alcohol.
remedy moon by doing ur mother’s hair or a matriarchal figure, if the mother isn’t present. and vice versa. remedy moon by also using familial hair care remedies - blk girls, that mean whip that blue magic grease n pink hair lotion out every now n then!! embrace tradition ( lol ).
make rice milk hair conditioner for a moon remedy as well - milk is ruled by the moon, and rice is a good moon offering. douse the head in it. fair warning tho, rice water can smell kinda crazy lol so maybe wash out with a good-smelling conditioner. do lunar remedies on a monday :p
trim during new moons. this astronomically promotes growth !!! i advise looking at the sign or aspects too - venus n moon, moon in taurus, moon in cancer, etc are great transits to trim under
i recommend making a rosemary oil. it’s quite simple: u mix essential carrier oils with rosemary - infused oil ( such as avocado ). i personally recommend making ur own hair care. it’s very ancestral n i think being hands on with greenery helps with remedying venus, moon, n saturn. 🌱

im restarting my hair growth journey - i’ve been big chopping since 2019, only allowing my hair to grow long once since then. well, 5 / 6 years later, i quite miss my long hair, so im going to restart and really dedicate time into growing it out
both acts - shedding my hair and growing it back - are v spiritual. i wanted to share what helped me in the past for those who may be interested but also to remind myself how i cared for my scalp, hair, n head. plus, the indigenous urges to wear long ass braids is getting too strong
i last big chopped in august 2024. n i don’t really have a picture of that day. but maybe i’ll start posting pics of my hair growth. idk, we gon see lol xoxo thank u for reading

hey would u mind sharing ur hair care routine (what type of shampoo, conditioner, any masks/treatments u do)? it looks so good :0
Fuck yeah I ove talking about hair, that's why I thought I'd like having long hair but turns out it's sensory hell. Anyway.
Giovanni Smooth as Silk shampoo for a lowkey everyday option as it's sulfate free but cleanses well enough;
Once every like 3 washes i clarify with something containing sulfates and disodium EDTA. If you're feeling fancy you can do Kinky-Curly Come Clean but a random Pantene one will do the job so I don't feel like it's necessary. Just keep an eye on the drying alcohols (short chain) in the Pantene shampoos, some of them contain fewer or none and are better for yr hair;
I alternate between Mill Creek Biotin and Keratin conditioners. Mill Creek really makes the best conditioner on the market imo and the price has never gone up but you need to order it from the US;
Fuck Curlsmith. But if your hair gets really dry the Hydro Creme Soothing Mark really is the most effective deep conditioner I've tried within the cgm realm;
Kinky-Curly Knot Today as leave in / detangler or Ecoslay Rice Pudding. I love both. Make sure you buy Kinky-Curly from a reputable source cause there are plenty of counterfeits around;
KINKY-CURLY CURLYING CUSTARD. You will have to take out a loan to afford it but it's worth it. Also you need so little a tub will last you 2 years;
Before the Custard I used to use Ecoslay Lemon Buttercream and I liked that one too. It's just annoying that their products need to be refrigerated;
Before every wash (every 5 or 6 days for me) I give myself a scalp massage with amla oil, fenugreek oil, castor oil (also brahmi and bhringraj sometimes, depends what's on sale, but my faves are amla and fenugreek bc fenugreek is also lowkey a dht blocker) + a few drops of rosemary and basil oil and I sleep in it. On my ends I use avocado oil cause its molecular weight is low enough to penetrate the hair shaft;
Once every like, 6 weeks, I use my partner's ketoconazole shampoo to get rid of dht buildup on my scalp.
my hair is medium/low density and medium thickness, and low porosity at the moment cause virgin and proteinated af.
i also do henna once a year!! the brand i use is called spierb which is kinda random and lowkey sus but i really like it. i use copperberry (acerola) as an acid (1:4 ratio).
Hope you enjoyed this 'asciugata' (in northern Italian slang when someone talks your ear off abt sth you only mildly care about it's called "to dry someone out", an 'asciugata' is 'a dry-out'. Feel free to share yr hair routine if you like!

Do you have any hair care tips for long healthy hair? Is a lot of it down to diet?
I think it really comes down to being super super gentle with your hair. Here are a few things that will help keep your hair healthy when it’s long:
- Avoid heat styling your hair. If you have to do it, use a heat protectant beforehand and keep the temperature as low as possible. If you can stand it, avoid washing your hair in super hot water (this is one I refuse to do).
- Avoid washing your hair too frequently. Use dry shampoo between washes to keep your hair looking fresh longer.
- When you do wash your hair, keep the shampoo only on the scalp and let the lather rinse over the rest of the hair.
- Use a wide-tooth comb or a boar bristle brush on dry hair when you need to brush it. Try not to brush your hair when it’s wet.
- Instead of blow drying or towel drying your hair, use a hair towel turban or a t-shirt to dry it more gently. Blot or scrunch the moisture out of the hair instead of rubbing it.
- Use hydrating products, like a deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, or hair oil on a regular basis.
- If you put your hair up, go for a silk scrunchie or plastic coil instead of a regular hair tie to reduce friction.
- Put your hair in a loose ponytail, braid, or bun for sleep, and u se a silk or satin pillowcase. This will help prevent breakage from friction as you toss and turn at night.
- Get regular trims if you can. This will prevent split ends and keep your hair healthier in the long run.
Diet actually isn’t a huge part of hair growth, although if you have a poor diet, you may see that reflected in your hair. For example, deficiencies in vitamin B12, vitamin D, biotin, riboflavin, and iron are associated with hair loss. But if you already eat a balanced diet, changing it is unlikely to make your hair look healthier or grow longer.

One of the more annoying parts of adulthood is having to map out which grocery stores have the specific thing you like. I’m out of my hair/nail vitamins and the ones I take have keratin as well as biotin and collagen and I can only get those at target because Publix and Walmart only have the gummies with biotin and if you’re lucky the biotin+collagen combo. Publix is the only place that has the Kefir I like because the one they have at Walmart tastes like feet and the one at target is like 7$ a bottle versus 4$ at Publix. Walmart is literally the only place here that has my shampoo and conditioner and if I want to order it online from somewhere else the price jumps up crazy high. Piggly Wiggly here has had a roach problem that’s lasted for months so I’m not even gonna try

Hi there! I just wanted to say your hair is sooo pretty!! The color is fantastic! What is your hair care routine? It looks so healthy! Do you use pomade or gel to keep it in that hairstyle? Thank you for reading, I hope your day is great today!
awww thank you so much!!!
i think my hair being healthy looking is a combo of care & good genetics. but here's what i'm doing:
i do not bleach/dye my hair excessively. like, once a month at most. that might seem obvious but i knew people in high school who did it every other week. i don't do that
i do not actually wash my hair regularly because it dries out if i do, i have a 'wash day.' so i'll do once a week, twice if i'm feeling kinda greasy.
after bleaching & the week following i have a hair masque i use, i've gone through a few repairing ones over the years but i look for ones with both repairing nutrients and biotin because i've been trying to grow my hair out for ages
occasionally i will apply rosemary oil, again for growth mainly.
i take biotin supplements for the same reason.
the only product i use in my hair is hairspray! got2b for the win. to style its just that & a blow dry. annnd for shampoo i use herbal essences rose hips, same with my conditioner altho i also have extreme magenta overtone for if my colour fades too much to my liking.

You deserve to glow up this summer!
Glowing up might seem hard or scary, but if you take your time this summer, you will feel better than ever before! Remember, you are already a butterfly; you just need to leave your cocoon. Embrace the journey and shine bright!
DIET AND EXERCISE
Balanced Meals: Ensure each meal includes a balance of protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates. This helps maintain energy levels and reduces cravings. Eat your proteins first or take water with apple cider vinegar with every meal.
Portion Control: Stick to recommended serving sizes, and eat slowly to give your body time to signal fullness. If you want guaranteed results calculate your calorie deficit online!
Daily exercise: Walk at least 10.000 steps everyday. If you want to make your walk more challenging try to walk and flex your ab-muscles at the same time. you will feel the burn. You can also add wrist/ankle weights.
Fiber-Rich Foods: Incorporate plenty of vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains. Fiber helps you feel full and slows the absorption of sugar into your bloodstream.
SKINCARE
Cleanse your face twice daily with a gentle, sulfate free cleanser. Try once a day if you have sensitive skin!
Exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells, but avoid over-exfoliation.
Moisturize daily with a non-comedogenic moisturizer.
Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day to protect your skin from UV damage.
Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from within.
Avoid sugary and greasy foods that can contribute to breakouts.
Incorporate a retinoid or retinol into your nighttime skincare routine.
Use products containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to treat acne.
Consult a dermatologist for personalized skincare advice and treatments.
HAIRCARE
Use Gentle Hair Products: Opt for sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners.
Avoid Over-Washing: Wash your hair 2-3 times a week to retain natural oils.
Regular Trimming: Trim your hair every 6-8 weeks to prevent split ends.
Avoid Heat Styling: Minimize the use of blow dryers, straighteners, and curling irons.
Use Natural Oils: Apply coconut, argan, or olive oil to nourish and moisturize.
Massage Your Scalp: Stimulate blood flow with regular scalp massages.
Reduce Stress: Practice relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation.
Get Enough Sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep to promote hair growth.
Avoid Tight Hairstyles: Reduce breakage by not pulling hair tightly.
Take Supplements: Consider biotin or other hair-growth supplements if needed.
Be Patient and Consistent: Stick to a healthy hair routine for long-term results.
MENTAL HEALTH
Practice gratitude daily to cultivate a positive mindset and appreciate the small joys in life.
Set clear, achievable goals to give yourself direction and purpose. Get a journal !
Engage in regular self-reflection to understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors better.
Embrace mindfulness techniques, such as meditation, to stay present and reduce stress.
Surround yourself with supportive and inspiring people who uplift you.
Commit to continuous learning by reading, taking courses, or exploring new hobbies.
Prioritize self-care, including adequate sleep, nutrition, and exercise, to maintain mental and physical well-being.
Be patient and consistent; your peace of mind is most important! Live in the moment, and this summer will bring you happiness and love. Glow from the inside out.

How to Deal with Dry or Damaged Hair
Medline states that “dry hair is hair that does not have enough moisture and oil to maintain its normal sheen and texture.” (2022).
How do we deal with dry hair?
Trimming one’s hair can help get it to a better state. Watson states that trimming helps dry ends disappear leaving a fresh cut (2023). From experience, having long, dyed, and layered hair made my ends very dry. However, getting a trim and the right shampoo and conditioner made my hair look fresh and healthy!
Make sure to get the right vitamins. Iron, biotin (also known as vitamin H), vitamin C, and vitamin A can all help hair appear healthier, claims Watson (2023). Trying a vitamin that has hair, skin, and/or nails on the label will be an easy way to research for the correct vitamins. Nonetheless, people need to make sure to read the ingredients on the back of the label making sure they have the correct ingredients too.
Make sure to use heat protectants or stop heat styling all together. Lee mentions,
“Repeated cycles of wetting and blow-drying can cause multiple cracks on hair cuticles9. Other studies reported damagecaused by curling irons. Hair shampoo surfactants and daily hair drying (including heat drying) causes damage to the ultrastructure of the hair, as well as color changes.” (2011).
Don’t wash your hair everyday! Washing hair everyday or using too much shampoo can strip sebum. “Sebum is the natural oil that makes your hair easier to maintain and, when you have the right amount, shiny. Too much sebum leads to a greasy hair appearance.” (Watson, 2023)

its okay
honestly idk what to tell you abt protective styles cause i have 4 type hair and idk how 3 type hair would react with protective styles. but for products i dont really put much in my hair besides mielle's rosemary mint oil and tree tea oil (sometimes jamaican black castor oil) and i use a biotin boost shampoo and conditioner!! i would recommend using that
