“The Muppets Mayhem” Cancelled After One Season At Disney+ But Co-Creator Teases Other Muppets Projects

The Electric Mayhem Band is breaking up after Disney+ canceled its latest Muppets show.

The streamer has axed the puppetry series The Muppets Mayhem, which comes from The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg, after one season. The ten-part series was released in May but Disney+ never disclosed any ratings for the show.

The Muppets Mayhem may be history on Disney+, but co-creator Adam F. Goldberg is not ready to say goodbye to his furry friends. Adam F. Goldberg took to social media to tease that they are working on another Muppets project at Disney Branded Television.

Huge thanks to the critic & fan love that got us 6 Emmy noms and a #1 Billboard album. Mayhem was truly the most joyful and collaborative experience of my career. From day one all I’ve cared about is creating a Muppet-verse and YES I am already cooking up more Muppets with @billbarretta & @JeffYorkes ! IT’S HAPPENING!!!

Every time I see some idiot proclaim "Jim Henson wouldn't have wanted this" under queer-positive, anti-racist or otherwise anti-bigotry posts by Sesame Street, Muppets or related fan accounts, I gotta laugh.

Bill Baretta, performing Pepe the King Prawn who canonically has described sexuality as fluid. Richard Hunt, who performed Scooter, Mudwell the Mudbunny and many more, a gay puppeteer. Frank Oz, performer of Fozzy Bear, Animal, Bert, Miss Piggy and more, 1st Gen. Immigrant from a Jewish-Catholic mixed family. Kevin Clash, a Black man who made his own career as a puppeteer since he was a teenager. I could go on and on. Aymee Garcia. Peter Linz. Frank Meschkuleit. John Tartaglia.

Your bigotry has no place on Sesame Street, nor with any Muppet media. It never has. From the start, Jim Henson, his fellow creatives, and the people who carry on his work have promoted kindness, education, creativity and equality.

hi everyone. welcome to my powerpoint. today i will be explaining how LIPS is from my hometown of ATLANTA, GEORGIA!!!!

for starters, steve whitmire (lips' original puppeteer) and peter linz (lips' current puppeteer) were both born and grew up in the atlanta area!

plus, lips looks a LOT like steve did in 1980 (lips' debut) so we can only assume he shares some things in common with his puppeteer!

in an interview with bill baretta, peter linz said that when finding lips' voice, he drew inspiration from a mechanic named sonny! sonny's service center was located in scottdale georgia which is only about 20 minutes out of atlanta. lips' main vocal inspiration was an atlanta resident!

steve has stated that lips was named after one of his favorite movies, the rocky horror picture show! atlanta has had an active rocky horror subculture since the late 70's and steve grew up attending screenings in downtown atlanta.

and, although the group was founded long after lips' debut, atlanta's resident shadowcast is named LIPS down on dixie!

and, in muppets canon, kermit's first trip to atlanta was in 1978 for the opening of the center for puppetry arts! so it's possible kermit met lips in atlanta and brought him onboard for the next season of the muppet show!

anyway. i think a lot of my connection to lips comes from this headcanon of mine! my original powerpoint was just something silly to show my friend, but i wanted to make a post about it too so i could put this hc out there :-)

Dennis Burkley in the 1970s (Part 2)

In 1977: Dennis Burkley was a regular on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman for 85 episodes. It is difficult to find any photos.

He appeared on another episode of The Rockford Files as a Nazi.

He was in Eight is Enough as a guy who got sucker-punched at a dance.

Dennis Burkley was in a TV Movie about a wrestler called Mad Bull, starring Alex Karras, who looks kind of puny next to his co-stars. Richard Karron is the big, hairy guy.

In 1977 Burkley also appeared in TV Movie Delta County, U.S.A., Quincy, M.E., The Oregon Trail and the Henry Winkler and Sally Field movie Heroes. (no photos)

 After Mary Hartman ended and the title character left the series, Dennis Burkley continued as Mac under the new title Forever Fernwood for 135 shows into 1978.

In 1978 he plays a Deputy in the sci-fi, alien invasion movie Laserblast.

He appeared on an episode of Baretta and on failed TV show Another Day.

He also appeared on Maude again as Congressional aid Sam Dickey. This was the last season of Maude as Bea Arthur quit the series. Norman Lear had planned to continue the Maude series as her being a Congresswoman and Dennis’ character Sam Dickey would be a regular. Instead, he developed a show starring John Amos as a black Congressman called Onward and Upward. John Amos had problems with the script and quit.

Lear reworked the show with Cleavon Little as the lead retitled Mr. Dugan. They were set to air in 1979, but a screening for actual black Congressmen was too insulting for them and the show was scrapped again.

The show was retooled again, now starring Bill Macy as a former pro football player becoming a congressman. Bill Macy, really? Why not make Dennis the former Pro-football player? The show was now entitled Hanging In. Dennis Burkley played his character, but the show lasted only 4 episodes.

Also in 1979, he appeared in his 3rd episode of The Rockford Files as a biker.

Other appearances in 1979 were in 2 episodes of BJ and the Bear and TV movies Charleston, Amateur Night at the Dixie Bar and Grill and Mrs. R’s Daughter (photo above)

The Muppets Mayhem - Saara Chaudry & Anders Holm Join Disney+ Series

Saara Chaudry (The Mysterious Benedict Society, Holly Hobbie) and Anders Holm (Workaholics, Inventing Anna) have joined the cast of the Disney+ live-action series The Muppets Mayhem.

Chaudry will star as series regular Hannah, Nora’s (Lilly Singh) younger and arguably more accomplished sister. Raised in the era of likes, shares, and the idea that “if it wasn’t posted, it didn’t happen,” Hannah translated her e-acumen and talent for enthusiastic and aspirational make-up videos into a burgeoning social media empire, complete with a legion of “Fan-a-Hannahs.” Her success has unfortunately upended her dynamic with Nora.
