With Wear OS and Android 12, Google is Now Able to Better Compete with Apple
If you would ask any iPhone user why they don’t switch, there’s probably one prevailing answer due to the ecosystem. Everything just works well. The transition between the iPhone, Apple Watch, iMac, and iPad is the best system integration that they have ever viewed. Samsung has been competing with Apple in this respect for years long. Lifting the former by partnering with Microsoft for fine integration with applications on Windows, but it’s not the same.

While Google has seemed like it has a group of several teams working on distinct projects. Seems like these teams don’t ever communicate with one another. We are sure this isn’t definitely the case. But that’s the way that it seems from where I’m seeing.
Google’s latest Wear OS has been a muddled mess since its initiation. Even after Qualcomm launched the latest wearable SoC. The SoC resolved several complaints from past iteration. Fitbit and Samsung have ruled the Android smartwatch market. So, Google did the merely logical thing. The thing is, if you can’t beat them, purchase them or partner with them.
Chrome Operating System is a bit distinct as more attention has been paid to the platform, especially to enable better integration with your smartphone. But it’s still not enough, not yet at least.
It Begins with You
Google I/O 2021 leveraged us with more excitement with the launch of the latest Material You design language. This launch has taken place along with the Google/Samsung partnership. Material You is way more than the latest interface for your Android phone. Matias Duarte spoke on the stage that these upgrades are introducing to more than the phone in your pocket. We’ll watch features arrive in Google’s broad suite of applications, along with Chrome OS.
Android hasn’t seen a transmutation in its UI since Material Design was released with Android Lollipop in 2014. But through Android 12 and Material You, Google is making the best parts of Material Design. And offering much-required and long-overdue upgrades across the board. It’s all about the specifications and theming here. Buttons and accents can automatically change, depends on the colors being utilized in your wallpaper.
This also acquaints convenient single-handed use for smartphones with stock Android. We’ve already seen design feature upgrades from the popularity of OnePlus, Samsung, Xiaomi, and just about every other phone maker. Now, similar upgrades are introducing to stock Android. Buttons are going to be bulkier, and you’ll be capable of reaching the top of the Settings menu conveniently. This all is to neglect to need to finger gymnastics with your phone.
But this upgrade in design is also introducing to the wristwatches with Wear OS. Google’s wearable operating system will get some of these design specifications and built them for future watches. Co-developing the features with Samsung, with Fitbit’s health tracking features, and Google has the potential for a true competitor to Apple.
Change is Introducing
There are a variety of options to select from when searching for the best Android phone. A similar can be said for the best Chromebook. That benefits me two-thirds of the all-incorporating Google ecosystem. The final stuff is the smartwatch. Google identified that partnering with Samsung provides the company and its user the best opportunity to finalizing the trifecta.
Propounds of the Pixel 6, Pixel Watch, and Pixel 6 Pro have appeared. Providing us a look at what could be coming this Fall. But as you might suppose, there is no surety that these are the final products. It’s entirely possible that the renders being shared are nothing more than one of Google’s future design choices.
Considering that Google is partnering with Samsung on the co-developed Whitechapel chipset, Google’s finally taking a page from Apple’s playbook. Gossips of Google working on its processors’ series have been rolling for years. But whenever a new Pixel is launched, Qualcomm is at the headship.
With Whitechapel, Google possesses more power over all of the processing giants. Instead of adding another co-processor, Google can create the software and chipset work hand-in-hand. Hopefully, then the Pixel 6 will get back the crown for having the best Android camera.
Google Can’t Let Us Down.
This is Google’s high chance to develop a cohesive chain of products and software to truly beat Apple. Supplying a near-flagship phone with software featuring a drastic transmutation, we’ve always been asking since Android Wear launched.
Chrome OS, for all these purposes and intents, isn’t perfect. But Google’s done a pretty nice job at keeping it updated and adding the best features. So, it’s time for Google to invest its huge resources into the hardware. Something that it’s been pestling around with for the last few years.
I’m not saying that Google needs to splurge billions into its advertising budget. But it should learn few things from OnePlus and Samsung. Don’t make the Pixel 4 mistake, and market these phones as much as possible. And present it intentionally, months before the launch.
Well, if it doesn’t happen, then we’re right back where we began. Google can return to being conservative if it prefers. While Apple and Samsung continue to rule over every wearable and smartphone market.
