Finished Violet and it almost frustrates me that The Way Home is as good as it is because of how lacklustre the rest of the game is compared to it.
I feel like this game would’ve been so much better if you weren’t forced to slog through narratively disconnected plotlines to reach the best part of the game. Idk Operation Starfall and Victory Road feel completely superfluous from a storytelling standpoint to Area Zero and Path of Legends bc at least in path of legends, there is a certain something that seems to have directly influenced what happens in the endgame. It’s not that they need to connect in principle but they should fucking connect if the game insists that you have to slog through them all to get to Area Zero. Half the gyms were just boring and the fact that these gym leaders don't use tera types to trip the player but instead terastallize their pokemon into the same type your team is probably super effective against is so bad it's almost funny but not nearly as funny as the great champion of Paldea being la primera of fucking uselessness. She is so aggressively overhyped like she’s a literal god but she has about as much character as a plank of wood. Her battle is so underwhelming. She’s so good at being champion that pneumonia didn’t even unleash her full strength against her and still won which is certainly a choice. Amazing. 10/10. This definitely puts her on the same tier as the greats like Leon and Cynthia or Lance and Steven (again, story-wise, bc her shitty team would be less annoying if she was a good character but she’s not). It’s just frustrating af bc very little of the way things are structured in this performance issue riddled open world has felt like it was worth the sacrifice of what could’ve potentially been one streamlined and yet still robust storyline that focused far more on what turo and sada were doing in area zero and paradox pokemon in general could've done for this game because when the story hits it *really* hits but it hits for all of 5% of your playtime before the game's main story ends.
