Tailored Tummies: How Your Dog's Breed Influences their Food Needs
When it comes to feeding our furry companions, one size does not fit all. Just as our dietary preferences and nutritional requirements vary, so do those of our canine friends. One significant factor that influences the type of dog food New Zealand you should buy for your dog is their breed. Different breeds have unique dietary needs based on their size, activity level, metabolism, and potential health issues. In this article, we'll explore how your dog's breed affects the type of food you should consider and ensure that your loyal companion stays happy and healthy.
1. Size Matters
One of the most apparent ways a dog's breed impacts its dietary requirements of Best dog food New Zealand is through size. Small breeds, like Chihuahuas and Dachshunds, have faster metabolisms and smaller stomachs, so they require food that is calorie-dense and easy to digest. On the other hand, larger breeds, such as Great Danes and Saint Bernards, need food with a lower calorie density to prevent rapid growth and reduce the risk of skeletal and joint issues.
2. Energy Levels
Different breeds have varying energy levels. Working breeds like Border Collies and Huskies are highly active and need a diet rich in proteins and carbohydrates to sustain their energy levels. Conversely, toy breeds like Pomeranians and Maltese may require fewer calories since they are less active and more prone to obesity. Thus, you need to be thoughtful when ordering the best grain free dog food NZ for them.
3. Allergies and Sensitivities
Certain breeds are more susceptible to food allergies and sensitivities. Breeds like the Bulldog, Boxer, and Labrador Retriever are known to have sensitive stomachs and may benefit from hypoallergenic or limited-ingredient diets. Understanding your dog's breed-specific sensitivities can help you select food that won't trigger digestive issues or skin problems.
4. Lifespan and Aging
Breed-specific life expectancy also plays a role in food choices. Generally, smaller animals have a longer lifespan compared to larger ones. Therefore, their needs for the Best dog food for puppies New Zealand change as they age. Senior dogs, regardless of breed, often require food with fewer calories but more joint-supporting ingredients to maintain their quality of life in their later years.

In an au where milo has siblings that aren't Maya and Ollie, what would they be like and how would it affect the canon lore in miloverse?
Finally, I can answer this ask✨
Sorry for the long wait, I ended up pretty busy with my job and was backed up with loads of asks (I don’t like mixing my doodles unless it’s just one or two but I had HUNDREDS of asks about All for the fish and decided to just pick through and answer as many as I dared)
Anyways! For Other Kids AU (aka separate ‘what if’ AUs where the Foxes have other or more kids)
Ofc I thought of more andreil kids. What do you take me for? The aftg brainrot is my disease✋😔
⚠️ this is not canon to We’ll Both Be Fine or Milo’s main story in general. This is a what if situation ⚠️
Admittedly, they could have been canon but andreil didn’t care about having more children. Milo was enough for them.
The first kid is Connie (Conner David) born 2011. Andrew and Neil decide not to deletus the fetus and so Connie is born. It is actually Nicky who gets to name him :)
Milo is very happy and emotional about having a little brother and tries to involve himself in every second of his life. They grow up very close, Connie looking up to Milo a bit.
Connie likes writing, cookies with jam, and spring
Dislikes conflict, chewing gum, and his freckled eyes (has eye nevus)
Second are the twins, Honey (Miela Marie) and Niko (Nicholas Nolan) both born 2014. Very simple decision from andreil that since Connie went well, why not test fate? And then they had twins who tried to make their lives hell. Andreil let the Foxes brainstorm names and send their best picks for andreil to choose through before narrowing it down to six (three if it’s a girl and three if it’s a boy) (they didn’t know it’d be twins) and let the foxes make a unanimous decision. The foxes decided on Nolan for a boy and Miela for a girl. Andrew and Neil ended up naming the boy Nicholas (Nicky cried about it for days) and gave Miela the middle name Marie after Abby.
Although Milo loves his new siblings, the twins are very hard to deal with and whine to him about every thing instead of andreil. The kids are also a bit air headed and tend to be hurtful without meaning to. When Milo goes to college, he finds out that they replace him with Connie who takes care of them as if they were his kids. (Admittedly, they love Connie more and it hurts Milo’s feelings)
Honey likes apiculture, traveling, food
Dislikes sitting still, sharing her things, being told what to do
Niko likes sports, napping, living life to the fullest
Dislikes being active (when it’s not sports), alcohol, explaining himself (he can’t)
Old concept designs when I was first making them
Some facts:
- Honey and Niko don’t consider Milo their brother but not in a malicious way. In their weird minds, he’s too old and different (however, they consider him family the same way Nicky, Aaron, Kevin, and Robin are)
- Honey lives with Nicky and Erik in Germany. She goes to school there
- Connie briefly lived with Stuart in the UK for two years, studying literature and journalism
- Niko doesn’t like playing exy but he goes pro as a hockey player since it’s similar
- they all call Milo something different. Connie calls him Brother or Milo, Honey calls him Mywo (Me - Woah), Niko calls him Lio or Em
- Milo used to take the kids to school (either walking or driving) since the twins were in daycare
- each kid is represented by one of the many animals that represent Milo. The rabbit (Connie), the bird (Honey) and the cat (Niko). With them, Milo is the dog. (Each animal makes up a part of Milo’s personality)
-⬆️ specific animals: White bunny (Connie) summer tanager (Honey) orange tabby (Niko) Wolf or Fox (Milo). However if they were Milo; New Zealand rabbit, Crow, and Red Siberian cat
- Maya would not be born in this au because at that point, they’d have their hands full with the twins and there’s no reason to have another. Ollie would have not been adopted either

Dianne Gordon was walking home from work on Jan. 21 when she saw a plastic bag on the ground and inside the bag she could see piles of money. Although she was in need of a vehicle-- her car broke down last year -- Gordon contacted police and returned the money immediately.
Police were able to track down who the money belonged to and discovered it belonged to a newlywed couple and have since returned the money to the couple. As for Gordon, her good deed wasn’t overlooked by people who heard her story, as the spouse of one of the police officers involved launched a crowdfunding campaign to help secure a car for Gordon. As of Thursday morning, the campaign has raised $14,500

4. A homeless mother left a note with her dog for whoever found her. An animal shelter reunited them.
This pup named Lilo came to McKamey Animal Center off the street - with an added surprise – a note.
"Please don't abuse me." Cool, totally wanted to be crying at work right now.
The shelter staff posted about Lilo on social media, hoping to connect with her owner when they got a call from someone saying they were Lilo's mom. While centers like McKamey provide shelter for dogs, they also provide resources for families who love their pets, but might not be able to keep them due to cost. Mann said they'll give food and supplies to families struggling to pay for their pets' needs. They'll even help the family find a pet-friendly home.
5. Campbell Johnstone reveals himself to be first openly gay All Black.
In a momentous moment for New Zealand's rainbow community, Campbell Johnstone has outed himself as the first openly gay player to have represented the country's most influential sporting brand.
All Black No. 1056 has publicly revealed his sexuality – in a brave bid to “open up that door and magically make that closet disappear” – for the first time on TVNZ's Seven Sharp programme on Monday evening. Johnstone, who played three tests for the All Blacks all in 2005, did confide in some teammates and his family during his playing days.
6. 92 year old flood victim reunited with lost cat
Valerie Axtens thought she had seen the last of her beloved cat Mendelson as she was being rescued through a window from rapidly rising floodwater. Valerie Axtens was rescued during the February 28 flood.

Puppy Love
Sofia Huerta x Reader
Word Count: 1.5k
[WOSO Masterlist]
When Sofia got the call from Nikki, she was concerned. Nikki had been watching Daisy while Sofia herself was off for the set of friendlies in New Zealand.
It was a quick call. Nikki had an emergency that she had to leave for, which meant she couldn’t watch Daisy anymore. Sofia was racking her brain, mentally making a list of people she could call last minute to watch Daisy, when Nikki informed her of your existence.
“My best friend is staying at my place right now, so I hope it’s okay if she watches Daisy.”
Sofia was skeptical at first. Especially when Nikki let it slip that you had two dogs of your own.
“Nik, I love you, but I don’t know if you telling me one girl is watching four dogs is making me feel any better.”
“Sof,” Nikki starts. “I know this isn’t the ideal situation, but I promise she’s amazing with dogs. Daisy will be well taken care of until you get back in a couple days.”
Really, it’s the photo you send not even ten minutes after she hangs up the phone with her club teammate that makes Sofia start to think about you in a different light.
In it, Daisy’s half laying on top of an unfamiliar german shepherd. Burger has his paws resting upon this dog’s head too, but it doesn’t seem to faze the dog at all. She squints, wondering if she’ll get a glimpse of your second mysterious dog, but can’t seem to find it anywhere.
Your text accompanying the picture is sweet and simple.
[I know this isn’t the best of circumstances but I promise Daisy’s being well taken care of!]
Sofia sits up in her bed, smiling at the image of three dogs.
[I hope she hasn’t been too much trouble. Nikki said something about you taking care of four dogs?? I can get someone to come grab her in the morning]
Your response is instantaneous. This time it’s a picture of you cuddling with all four dogs. Sofia’s first thought is that you’re cute. Leave up to Nikki to be friends with someone who looks like a literal goddess. Sofia’s too busy admiring the way you look underneath all of the fur that she doesn’t see the caption at first.
[Don’t worry about it! This cuddle puddle wouldn’t be the same without Daisy here!]
She can’t deny how happy Daisy looks, licking your cheek while you have a wide grin in the picture.
[If you’re sure. I don’t want to trouble you too much]
You guys text back and forth for a little bit before you call it a night. Sofia feels guilty for a second, forgetting about the time difference. It’s already close to midnight where she is, she couldn’t imagine how long you’ve been awake now.
When she falls asleep later that night, she does so with the image of your bright smile painted on the inside of her eyelids, wondering what your voice sounds like.
---
The two of you communicate regularly. You send her countless pictures of Daisy with the three other dogs in your care. Daisy looks so genuinely happy in each one, Sofia almost feels guilty for having to take her away from the other dogs in a couple days.
With each interaction between the two of you, Sofia can’t help but crush on you harder. You’re just so easy to talk to, not to mention how good you are with Daisy.
The first time she calls you, Sofia makes the excuse of wanting to see Daisy. The way you answer while in a sports bra and the shortest running shorts ever nearly makes Sofia’s brain short-circuit.
“Sorry,” you huff, brushing your hair out of your face. “We just came back from a run.”
“Is it not freezing over there right now?” Sofia laughs, trying to mask her flusterness with a joke.
The grin you give her makes her heart feel funny. “I’m Seattle born and raised. The cold doesn’t bother me.”
“Okay, weirdo.”
Although it’s the first time the two of you talk, conversation comes easily. By the time Rose comes to get her for practice, Sofia almost doesn’t want to leave.
“Sof, we gotta--” Rose blinks, looking over Sofia’s shoulder at the phone. “(Y/N)?”
You look up from where you’re fixing yourself some food. “Oh hey, Rose!”
Sofia looks between the two of you. “You guys know each other?”
Rose rolls her eyes. “Do I know (Y/N)? She literally named one of her dogs after me.”
“Fake news. Rosie the dog came with her name from the shelter. You’re just the annoying human that came with Nikki from soccer.”
Sofia nearly chokes at the offhanded way you insult Rose. Rose merely snorts as if the two of you have had this conversation multiple times already.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. You better be treating mini me with all the love she deserves. Anyways,” she turns back towards the defender. “We gotta go. Bus leaves in ten.”
“Right, sorry. Be right there.”
“Go kick some soccer ass. It was nice talking to you.”
Sofia doesn’t have a chance to say anything before you’re switching the camera. Sofia’s met with the giant face of her dog.
“Daisy, come here! Say bye to your mom!”
When you finally hang up the phone, Sofia has the biggest smile on her face. When she looks up, getting ready to leave the room, she realizes with a start that Rose is still lingering by the door.
The younger girl has a shit eating grin on her face that only spells trouble. “Sof, do you have a crush?”
“What? No! Of course not!” she sputters.
“Right. So you wouldn’t care if I told you (Y/N) was single.”
“She’s single?” Sofia doesn’t have a chance to stop herself before she asks the question.
By the time they get to the bus, Rose has teased her so much that Sofia has no choice but to sink into her seat with a red face.
---
You’re playing fetch with the dogs when Sofia meets you in person for the first time. Daisy races past your outstretched hand to barrel into her owner, barking with joy.
“Hi, Daisy girl! Were you good for (Y/N)?”
The soft crunching of gravel has her looking up again. You look as good in person as you did over the screen of her phone. If anything, you look even better. Sofia has to swallow her groan when you give her a soft smile.
“Hi.”
“Hey.”
She doesn’t know if it’s weird, but Sofia hugs you all the same when she gets up. She doesn’t know if she’s imagining it too when she spots a faint blush on your cheeks.
“It’s great to finally meet you.”
“Yeah of course. Thank you so much for watching Daisy. I’m sure you didn’t sign up to watch four dogs when you decided to come visit Nikki.”
“Is that what she told you?” you laugh.
Sofia frowns. “What, she didn’t actually have a real emergency?”
“No, no, she did. I was just referring to the ‘visiting Nik’ thing.”
Sofia stays silent, not really sure where you’re going with this.
“I moved back here from Cali a couple months ago. I’m Nikki’s permanent roommate, no matter how hard she tries to get rid of me.”
“Oh, so I guess I’ll be seeing you around?” She tries to play it off as if she doesn’t have any real expectations to see you again, but deep down, Sofia knows that she’d do anything just to make up a reason to get to see you after you give back Daisy.
“Well yeah, you’re kind of stuck with me now. Daisy and I have really bonded in your absence. I’m expecting full visiting privileges.” Your words are spoken with a grin, and Sofia can’t help but laugh at your demand.
“I’m gonna miss you, Daisy girl.” Leaning down, you press a kiss Daisy’s forehead, the giant pup wiggling from all of your attention.
“We can always take our dogs out for a puppy play date,” Sofia shrugs, trying to play it cool. “That way you can see Daisy again. And I’m sure she’d love to play with your dogs too.”
“Or…” you trail off, keeping your eyes focused on where the three dogs are now rolling around together on the ground.
“Or?” Sofia repeats, trying not to get her hopes up.
You look nervous now, eyes still not meeting hers. “I know a restaurant nearby that’s pet friendly. If you happen to be free tomorrow night, I’d love some company.”
“Are you asking me out on a date?”
You chew on the inside of your cheeks, finally raising your eyes to meet hers. “Are you going to get creeped out if I say yes?”
Sofia’s heart instantly feels warm. She’s smiling so hard that her cheeks hurt, but she really couldn’t care less. “Text me the time and place. I’ll be there.”
Your eyes light up. “Right, yeah, cool. I’ll definitely do that.”
By the time she leaves hours later, having been caught up getting to know you, Sofia has a feeling that maybe, hopefully, both her and Daisy will be seeing a lot more of you.

Ghostwriter ch 11
Character(s): Gustavo Rocque, Kelly Wainwright, Kendall Knight, James Diamond, Carlos Garcia, Logan Mitchell, Curt Haverfield, Veronica Clark oc
Pairings(s): Kendall Knight/Veronica Clark, James diamond & Veronica Clark, James Diamond & Kendall Knight
“Hey, James,”
Kendall grabbed his friend's attention. They were the only ones in the hall. Logan and Carlos ordered food earlier and were on their way to get it, and Ronnie was running errands for Gustavo during their thirty-minute break. James, as always, was combing his hair in a mirror. He always had to be picture-perfect. He hummed in response; it only made it seem like he wasn’t paying attention, but he had his listening ears on.
“You know I loved Jo, right?”
“Of course you did.” James scoffed. “She was your first girlfriend, and you were both crazy for each other.”
“Yeah, but like, why did I love her?”
“How should I know? She was your girlfriend.”
“I know, I know. But… We never had anything in common, did we?”
“No. But it wasn’t like you were going to let that stop you. Jo was like, your dream girl.” James raised a brow. A look on his face. “Why do you ask?”
“Is there a specific reason I felt gravitated toward her?”
“Dude.” James narrowed his eyes. “What’s going on? Why are you thinking about this? This isn’t like you.”
“I don’t– I just– Was our relationship normal?” Kendall sighed heavily and ran his hands down his face. “She showed up out of nowhere, and I fell in love with her before I even said anything to her.”
“I don’t know what kind of stage of grief you’re in, but– Are you okay?” The brunette put the mirror and comb back in his pocket, giving the blonde his full attention.
“Okay, so I went out with Ronnie two days ago–”
James smirked and gave Kendall a knowing look.
“Not like that.” The blonde rolled his eyes. “I took her sightseeing, and we… argued a lot.”
“When do you never?”
“She asked why I went out with Jo.”
James' eyes widened, and he stared at Kendall motionlessly. The gears in his head were turning. He needed the complete picture to understand what his friend was trying to say, but piecing together a scattered puzzle in his mind palace was pretty challenging.
“Okay,” Kendall exhaled sharply. “She didn’t specifically ask about why I went out with Jo. It was more… Ronnie was trying to make a point about how I believe everyone should like me.”
“She’s not wrong.” James shrugged. “You are pretty high-strung when it comes to that.”
“So, for the past day and a half, I’ve been trying to wrap my head around why I went out with Jo, considering she didn’t like hockey.” Kendall ripped it off like a band-aid. He was getting nowhere with trying to sugar-coat his words.
“Well, you made a great team tricking Bitters’ when we threw that colossal party.”
“But is that it? I mean, she didn’t like video games or scary movies. She was not a fan of corn dogs.”
“Since when do you eat corn dogs?”
“I eat them all the time with Carlos.” Kendall shrugged.
“Why does it matter?” James tilted his head. “Jo broke up with you to go to New Zealand.”
“I know… I just– Did I make her go out with me? I mean, she lied- “
“Dude. She lied about having a boyfriend because she wanted to focus on her career, and we were tripping over ourselves to get her to go out with us.”
“Right,”
“If anything, you caught her in the lie, and she accepted it when you asked her out. You didn’t force her to go out with you.”
“You’re right. She liked me– No, she still loves me.” There was a sparkle in Kendall’s eyes.
“I wouldn’t go that far…”
“Thanks, James!”
James watched as Kendall turned on his heel with a pep in his step. The band's frontman was on a mission and wouldn’t be stopped. Shaking his head, he pulled out his mirror again and laughed. Whatever he was going to do or say would most likely result in him getting his feelings hurt or his ego wounded. The self-proclaimed pretty boy of the band had a feeling that his best friend since middle school was going to piss either Ronnie or Gustavo off royally. It was a fifty-fifty chance. He could only hope that Logan would be able to get through to him before he got his nads injured. Then again, James would find it funny if their songwriter slapped Kendall.
He waited there momentarily before following Kendall. At least he could try to do damage control. One day, their weird feud would get in the way of work, and Gustavo would not be ashamed to tear them a new one.
Speaking of the producer, his errands for Ronnie involved grabbing the newer equipment that arrived at the front door. Along. She couldn’t tell if Gustavo was trying to torture her or improve her posture, but she felt a little hopeless staring at all the boxes. Kelly had graciously shown her where the dollies were, which made carrying the boxes a hundred times easier, but it didn’t help that she was alone. Rolling her sleeves up, she tied her hair back. These boxes weren’t going to move themselves.
Unfortunately, Ronnie first moved the most oversized box, lifting it with her back instead of her legs. Thanks to the weight of the brand-new recording equipment inside, she couldn’t grip the underside properly and only leaned it against the dolly before it rolled away. She whined in frustration and tried to lift it off the ground. Her fingers burned, and the muscles in her arms shook. She could not lift it and walk it over to the dollie. Her ears perked up when the dolly wheels squeaked. She didn’t register that someone had wheeled it over to her so she could safely place the box on the metal surface. Ronnie sighed and blew hair out of her face. She hadn’t expected this to be so hard, but maybe Gustavo was torturing her.
“Want some help?”
Ronnie screamed and accidentally whacked her foot against the box. She landed on her ass, grabbed her foot, and winced. What is it with her getting hurt all the time? Why must the universe make her suffer so much?
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
Ronnie gazed into the prettiest blue eyes she had ever seen. His dirty blonde hair was clipped short, and his nose looked like the bone set wrong from one too many hits to his face. The bump was quite charming. She liked hooked noses. He wore a purple and yellow hockey jersey. The L.A. Kinds emblem was front and center. A metaphorical light bulb went off in her head.
“Ronnie, right?” His smile made her insides turn to jelly.
Her face heated up. This was not how she wanted to meet Curt Haverfield. She would only assume that Mercedes talked her up to the hockey player because she was determined to set her new best friend up on a date. She nodded wordlessly as embarrassment crept in, rendering her brain unable to form a coherent thought to piece words together.
“I guess I spooked you too much. Sorry…” He chuckled and helped her to her feet. His hands were so warm.
“No, no, you’re good. This is not how I wanted to meet you, Curt.” She eventually snapped out of it. His name fit well in her mouth. There was only one syllable.
“No, no. I should apologize. I approached you without getting your attention. If you were holding that box, something could have broken.” Ronnie blinked twice, staring at him, a bit shocked. Was this a genuine apology? “No idea why they have such a cute girl like yourself out here all alone. If they’re not careful enough, some guy could steal you away.”
The songwriter squeaked, and her face tinted red. Was he flirting with her? Of course, when Mercedes mentioned him, she had no idea what to expect, but he was pretty attractive. She involuntarily giggled.
“Ronnie!”
The songwriter and hockey player turned their heads to Kendall, who pushed open the front doors. He slowed to a stop and stared Curt down with an unreadable expression in his eyes. The blonde’s jaw twitched, and he turned his attention to Ronnie.
“To answer your question from the other day, I know why I dated Jo, because we liked each other. She was the only normal girl at the Palm Woods.” Kendall smiled like he was so proud of himself. Curt gave him a weird look.
Ronnie stared at Kendall blankly, her face devoid of emotion. What possessed him to think it was a genuine question? And why would he wait so long to answer her? Curt cleared his throat. The silence was starting to get awkward.
“I’m sorry, is this your boyfriend?” He side-eyed Kendall.
“No. He’s one of my dick head friends.” Ronnie sighed. “Curt, could you help me with these boxes?” She essentially ignored Kendall’s answer.
“Oh, yeah, sure.”
“Six hands are better than four.” Kendall tried to butt in, but Ronnie wasn’t listening. She decided she wasn’t going to listen to his bullshit for the rest of the day.
With help from Curt, not Kendall, who went somewhere to sulk for the rest of their break, Ronnie got all the new recording equipment to studio A. Gustavo had the guys in studio B while A was being renovated. The songwriter could only assume that the room had become too crowded or perhaps the recording equipment had been outdated. Soon, it was back to their scheduled programming, and she half expected Curt to leave, but instead, he waited outside. Kendall’s mood was soured quickly, and everyone could tell.
“You’re flat,” Gustavo spoke into the mic, his voice projecting into the guy's headphones.
“Am not.” Kendall shot back snarkily.
“There’s no way I’m flat.” James scoffed and crossed his arms.
“It’s Kendall. Kendall is singing flat.” Gustavo sighed.
“It’s written in the wrong key.” Kendall huffed.
“I wrote it!” Gustavo raised his voice. “The hell is your problem? You’ve been cooperative with me all day!”
“Now that I think about it, do we have to sing a song she wrote?” Kendall sneered, shooting a glare at Ronnie.
The blue-haired girl groaned and smacked her forehead against her notebook. And just like that, they were back to square one again.
“We’re doing the song.” Gustavo sighed heavily.
“Yeah, but don’t you think one of your songs would better suit us, considering we’re your band.” Kendall took off his headphones.
“What are you doing!” Logan hissed at the blonde.
“Making a point,” Kendall stated matter-of-factly.
“Dude, he’s gonna cause another earthquake,” Carlos whispered.
Ronnie sighed and leaned her head back against the wall. Who knew Kendall Knight would be one of the most childish boys she had ever met? She couldn’t wait to get off work and leave him in the dust. She would return to ignoring him at Palm Woods if he were to be a jerk again. It’s not like it would matter because she’d be more concerned with Curt. The hockey player was leagues above Kendall, and she had to remind herself to thank Mercedes for giving him her number. But she wasn’t getting off work for a while and had to endure Kendall being a little shit yet again. One of these days, she’ll either slap or sock him in the jaw. Gustavo turned to look at her, and she shrunk under his gaze. Why was he looking at her? It wasn’t her fault Kendall wasn’t cooperating! She stared back at him with wide, frightful eyes. Would he fire her because of Kendall, or would he make her resolve his problem?
“Outside.” The soft tone he had with her was always a surprise. She jumped, not expecting him to speak somewhat kindly to her. It was weird.
Ronnie gathered her things before the producer could repeat them and shuffled out the door as quickly as possible. Fortunately for her, Curt was staring at his phone in the hall. When the door opened and closed, he looked up.
“Did Gustavo let you out early?”
“No.” Ronnie sat next to him, her bag in her lap. Kendall had bought her a new rucksack, which was purple and blue ombre. She attached random pins to it. A keychain was attached to one of the zippers, a cheap souvenir Kendall had given her. She wouldn’t admit out loud that he had a way of apologizing.
“So, what’s the deal with you and Sasquatch?”
“Kendall?” Ronnie raised a brow. “Honestly,” she exhaled sharply. “I don’t know what the ‘deal’ is between us. One moment, he’s trying to get in my good graces, and the next moment, it’s like he wants to skin me alive.”
Curt grimaced, shaking his head. “I guess he doesn’t understand the good thing he has before it disappears.”
“Yeah, I wish he would tell me what’s happening, but I have to play hot and cold with him.” Ronnie sunk into her chair and pouted.
“If he’s not going to see your value, then maybe give someone else a chance.”
“What– I was never going to give Kendall a chance.”
“You don’t like him?” Curt quirked a brow.
“No, not in that way.” Ronnie shook her head. “Relationships are… complicated.”
“They don’t have to be,”
“Romance is nuanced. It’s an entirely new battlefield, and I have difficulty navigating friendships.”
“Ronnie,”
“It’s not that I’m opposed to the idea. It just feels like everybody else already knows what to do or what to expect.”
“Ronnie– “
“I mean, I’d personally love to go on a date with someone. The only time I went on a date was this short fling over the summer, and we didn’t do much–”
“Ronnie, I want to take you on a date.”
The songwriter choked on her saliva.
“Huh?” She squeaked, staring at him with wide eyes. “Me? You want to go out with me?”
“Yes,” Curt laughed lightly. “You speak your mind, and I don’t find many girls who do that. Plus, this is the whole reason Mercedes gave me your number.”
“Right…”
“So?”
“What? Oh– Yeah, sure.” Ronnie said it so casually the hockey player almost thought she meant that she didn’t want to go out with him.
“Okay, I have a perfect idea. There’s this nice restaurant not that far from here. Maybe I’ll come by the Palm Woods and pick you up.” Curt nudged her teasingly.
“Yeah! That sounds great!”
When Ronnie left Rocque Records after work, she didn’t expect Kendall to follow her or badger her about her decisions. He was like a puppy at her heels; she only wanted to bop him on the nose with a newspaper to make him stop. She opted to walk back to the Palm Woods, hoping he wouldn’t follow her on foot, but he was relentless. They were a block away from the Palm Woods when she stopped in her tracks, causing his chest to bump into her back. She whirled around and jabbed a finger at his torso.
“Stop following me!”
“Why are you going on a date with that guy?”
“That.” Ronnie stiffened, her face heating up. What gave him the right to judge her choices when he was perfectly fine with being a grade-A dickhead. “That is none of your business!”
“You’re our songwriter and my friend. Of course, it’s my business!”
“Since when does being my friend give you any entitlement to what I do with my personal life?”
“I don’t want you to get hurt–”
“Kendall, you’re the one hurting me!” She shouted at him.
The blonde was stunned. His jaw was on the floor. Ronnie whirled around on her heel and stormed off towards the Palm Woods. She left him in the dust. He could only watch her walk away. He wasn’t trying to hurt her on purpose, but she was so stubborn. It was kind of annoying. Eventually, he picked his jaw off the floor and hurried to the Palm Woods. He needed to stop her before she got picked up by Curt. He didn’t know why he had to stop her, but he didn’t like her going on a date with him. Curt was so… Well, Curt would be a player on the L.A. Kings eventually, and Kendall was stuck in Big Time Rush for now. It wasn’t fair. He could be almost as good as Curt Haverfield.
Alone with his thoughts, they snowballed as he dragged his feet back to the Palm Woods, rolling around in his brain like a pearl inside a clam shell. He wasn’t hurting Ronnie; he never touched her in that regard. It couldn’t be that he was hurting her when they fought. She always started the arguments. Right? She had to start every argument because Kendall was level-headed. Kendall was a leader. He didn’t cause problems on purpose unless it was needed. Ronnie was uncooperative. She wasn’t being friendly even though she claimed she wanted to get along with the band. That was it. Why did she have to get along with him? Why did she have to agree to go on a date with him?
Why did it have to be him? The blonde could go as far as to say that the songwriter let him down. He didn’t get it. They were starting to get along, and someone new came along and swept her off her feet. It was infuriating. He was infuriated. Was she playing hard to get? Was she doing this to piss him off purposefully? Kendall nearly ran into Camille when he got to the lobby. She raced past him with Lucy and Ronnie. The three girls were giggling and whispering. He furrowed his brow and watched them in the elevator. At this point, he had a permanent scowl. What made Curt more likable than him? What did Curt have that he didn’t have? Or was it because Curt wasn’t anything like Kendall?
“Are you okay?” Logan asked, and he put a hand on Kendall’s shoulder.
“I’m fine.” The blonde shrugged it off.
“I’m not a psychologist, but I’m pretty sure you’re not fine.”
“Stop badgering me about my feelings!” Kendall snapped at his slightly shorter friend.
The people in the lobby gave the two singers weird looks. Kendall’s face burned from the shame of yelling at Logan unprovoked. His legs carried him quickly to the stairwell, and he disappeared inside, taking the stairs two at a time to race to the apartment. Maybe a nap would fix everything. That’s it. This was a bad dream that Kendall could wake up from. He probably fell asleep on break at Rocque Records, and no one wanted to wake him up. It has to be it.
So, Kendall locked himself in his room for a few hours. Midwest emo music blasted through his headphones as he lay his face smooshed in his pillow. No one could get through to him, not even his mother. When his friends would text him, he would ignore their messages. The guys were concerned, but if they couldn’t help him, they would be at a loss for what to do. James and Carlos stayed in the pool area, hoping Kendall would come to his senses and join them there. Logan will remain in their apartment if Kendall decides to leave the room. Of course, it wasn’t just his room. James, Logan, and Carlos all slept there too. James was alerted when his phone buzzed in his pocket, but instead of a text from Kendall, it was from Ronnie. He was standing in the open doorway a couple of minutes later.
The songwriter was curled up in a ball on the floor, her chin tucked against her chest. James hesitated, but he didn’t see her dad anywhere. Cautiously, he made his way over to her on the floor. Her body shook, and he realized she was crying.
“Ronnie?”
She was mumbling something through her tears that he couldn’t quite understand.
“I’ll get you some water,” James said, standing up and turning towards the kitchen. He held a blue plastic cup under the tap, and the rush of water reverberated around the otherwise silent apartment.
Ronnie unfurled and sat up. Her head was pounding. Her face was red, and her eyes were puffy. There were clothes all over her room. She sat against her bed on the floor, leaning her face on her knees. The brunette gently handed her the cup and sat next to her on the cold hardwood floor.
“What’s wrong?”
Ronnie shook her head, holding back tears. The plastic cup shook slightly in her hand.
“You’ll feel much better if you tell me what’s wrong.”
“I can’t do it– I can’t… I– “ Ronnie let out a pitiful sob and closed her eyes, using her free hand to cover her face.
“First date jitters?” James quirked a brow.
Ronnie nodded and sipped on the water. Her eyes hurt, and her throat hurt, and she probably looked like a mess.
“I get it. First dates are terrifying.”
“I’ve never– I’ve never been on a date before…” Ronnie took a shaky breath, coughing into her elbow. “Not like… Not like this. There’s so much– much pressure.” She was starting to wind herself up again.
“Water,” James chided softly. He quickly broke her line of thought, and she took another gulp of tap water. She shook like a leaf. She was utterly terrified. “I can’t promise it’s going to be okay, but I can tell you he’s lucky to date you.”
“You think so?” Ronnie took deep breaths to relieve the pressure in her nose. Her face was probably snotty and gross.
“Yeah, you have this… This sort of determination.” James turned and looked at the clothes on the floor. “I’m guessing Camille and Lucy bailed on you,”
“I yelled at them… I shouldn’t have, but I was… It was so overstimulating. Their voices overlapped, and suddenly everything was too loud, and my ears started hurting.”
“Hey, it’s okay.” James hesitated, putting a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Maybe I can help?”
Ronnie laughed pathetically. “Doubt it,”
“Do you know where he’s taking you?” James dragged over a pile of clothes and sat on the floor.
“This fancy restaurant…”
“How many dresses do you own?”
“None.”
James choked on his saliva. “None?!”
“What?” Ronnie sniffed. “I don’t like how they feel and hate the drafty feeling they give you.”
“Okay, that severely diminished our options here…” James picked through clothes, tossing them in two separate piles as he sorted. “What if…”
Ronnie furrowed her bows, sipping on her water as she watched him at work. He could try working in the fashion industry if he didn’t want to be a singer.
“How do you feel about a black top and black pants? We could add a dash of color with accessories.”
“James–”
“I can only assume he’s taking you to a place that would not let you in with jeans and a t-shirt.” He grinned from ear to ear. “Trust me, you’ll love what I’m planning for you. He stood up, and Ronnie followed suit curiously.
It took him quite a while to finally throw together an outfit he would let her walk out of the Palm Woods. The brunette gently shoved her toward the bathroom once he thrust the clothing items into her arms. He was giggling like a schoolboy. The blue-haired girl came out of the toilet, tugging her skirt down. Her leggings kept that draft feeling at bay, but she felt so out of place. This was not an outfit Ronnie would wear. James tilted his head, tapping his chin in thought. The white furry turtleneck sweater went well with the black skirt and leggings, but something was missing. He glanced at the row of shoes next to her bedroom door and grabbed the only pair of boots.
“Put these on,”
Ronnie groaned and rolled her eyes. She has not liked being a dress-up doll for her friends lately. If someone had told her months ago that she was going to Los Angeles only to dress up for her new friends, she would never have come to L.A., regardless of whether she was living her dream.
“Perfect!” James gasped. “Oh! Maybe you can pull your hair back, either in a low ponytail or a braid running along the side that tucks it back so it’s out of your face–”
“James!” Ronnie snapped.
“Okay, okay. I’ll let you figure out your hair.” The singer pouted. “But I get to do your makeup!”
“Fine.”
James was trying to contain his excitement when he found his friends in the lobby. He grinned from ear to ear, his eyes shining happily. Kendall raised a brow. After sulking for a good while, he seemed to be doing better. James kept looking over his shoulder, giggling. He was shaking.
“What? Did you prank Bitters’ or something?” Carlos’ eyes lit up. “Aw man, I wish you told me about that!”
“No. Even better! You’ll hardly recognize her!” James was fidgeting with his fidget toy, and his cheeks started hurting from the smile.
“Her?” Logan raised a brow.
“Ronnie, you can come out now!” James called out to her.
Logan, Carlos, and Kendall turned when Ronnie came out from around the corner. For a moment, it was as if she was bathed in some sort of angelic light. Kendall’s eyes widened, and he swore his heart had stopped. Or perhaps he stopped breathing. His brain short-circuited, and he stared at her with wide eyes. Ronnie stood next to James, and he motioned for her to turn around slowly.
“You look like a girl…” Carlos breathed. Logan slapped his arm.
“She is a girl.”
“You guys love it, don’t you?” James giggled, bouncing on the balls of his feet.
“James picked the outfit.” Ronnie tucked her hair behind her ear.
Kendall’s mouth went dry. All he could do was stare at her. He couldn’t help it. Why did it have to be Curt? Why did it have to be Curt? Why did it have to be Curt? Why did it have to be Curt? Why did it have to be Curt? Why? Why? Why–
“...cute, right?” Kendall snapped out of it and shook his head. He stared blankly at James, who snorted and cleared his throat.
“She’s cute, right? I think I got her ready for her date well.”
“She’s…” Kendall sucked in a breath when Ronnie looked at him. It was the same look she had given him at the lake. “She’s okay.”
James, Logan, and Carlos gave him a weird look. Kendall opened and closed his mouth, floundering like a fish as he tried to look for the right words to cover up his mistake.
“Curt will be here any minute. I have to go.”
Ronnie excused herself and hurried out the revolving door of the Palm Woods lobby. Kendall watched her scurry away, and his throat tightened. Curt Haverfield was lucky. He was so damn lucky.

A little game of translation telephone. Original English edition, published French edition, my own English translation which I made without seeing the original. Birds of the World by Oliver Luther Austin.
English: The visitor to New Zealand who sees Kiwis in their native haunts today is fortunate. This is not because they are rare, but because they are so shy and retiring. They live in thick, swampy forests where they spend their days hidden in burrows or under spreading tree roots, and come out to forage only at night. But with luck, and in the "proper bush", as the New Zealanders call what little is left of the primeval kauri and tree fern forests, one may still here the shrill piping calls that long ago led the native Maoris to call them kiwis.
Roly-poly birds about the size of a large chicken, the Kiwis are the smallest of the primitive flightless birds. They differ from the other four families of living Ratites (birds with no keel on the breastbone) in so many anatomical features that their position in the avian family tree, other than close to its base, is uncertain. Their closest relatives seem to be the extinct Moas that shared New Zealand with them until about 700 years ago.
The three living species of Kiwis (two more are known from Pleistocene fossil deposits) are the only representatives of their family and order. They have dwindled in numbers over the past century. Part of their decline is attributable to the clearing of the New Zealand forests for agriculture, part to the introduction of stoats, weasels, opossums, dogs, and cats. Though early settlers hunted them for food, the Kiwis have since earned a warm place in the hearts of the New Zealanders and are now rigidly protected.
In appearance Kiwis are strangely unbirdlike, and seem to be all body, bill, and feet. Their short, stout legs are spaced so far apart that they run with an awkward rolling gait, like an ungainly mechanical toy. Their long, coarse plumage com- pletely hides their rudimentary 2-inch wings. They have neither wing nor tail plumes. Their contour feathers, whose lack of interlocking barbules gives them their hairlike effect, grow thickly all over the body except for a hidden bare patch on each side just under the ridiculous wings. Into this patch the kiwi tucks its head and bill when sleeping.
Kiwis are the only birds whose nostrils open at the very tip of the bill. They have a keen sense of smell, which most other birds lack, and apparently find the grubs and worms they eat mostly by odor. Their rather poor eyesight is com pensated for in part by long, hairy bristles at the base of their 6-inch bill. These are believed to have a tactile function.
Kiwis nest in underground burrows and, as in most ratites, the male does all the incubating. The chalky white eggs are enormous, about 5 inches long. They weigh almost a pound, practically one fourth of the female's body weight. The clutch is one, rarely two, eggs, which takes 75 to 80 days to hatch.
Probably no bird or animal on earth has become more symbolic of its homeland than the kiwi. The chief motif on the Dominion seal, it also appears on New Zealand coins and postage stamps. It is used as a trademark for textiles, shoe polish, flour, and a score of other New Zealand products. New Zealand overseas troops proudly call themselves Kiwis. Such sentiment is the kiwi's best insurance for surviving the drastic changes still being made in its environment.
My translation: It takes great luck to see wild Kiwis in their natural habitat. Not because Kiwis are rare, but that they're shy and hide themselves. They live in thick, swampy forests where they spend the day concealed in burrows or under the creeping roots of trees, and only come out at night to feed. But sometimes you hear it in the "real bush" - as the New Zealanders call it, where it subsists in primary forest of kauri and tree ferns- their high and fluty call which made the Maori call them "Kiwi".
Plump birds, close in size to a large chicken, Kiwis are the smallest of primitive flightless birds. They differ from the four other extant families of Ratites, birds which lack a wishbone in the sternum, by such a great number of anatomical characteristics that in the avian evolutionary tree, their place would be at the bottom. Their closest ancestors seem to be the Moas which lived alongside them in New Zealand until around the 15th century.
The three extant species of Kiwis (two others have been discovered in Pleistocene fossil deposits) are the only representatives of their family (Apterygides) and of their order (Apterygiformes). Their number has decreased over the course of the last century. This rarefaction is due in part to the clearing of New Zealand forests for the benefit of crops, and in part due to the introduction of ermines, weasels, opossums, dogs, and cats. The first colonists hunted Kiwi to for food, but in our day, these birds hold a privileged place in the hearts of New Zealanders and are the subject of strict protection.
At first glance, Kiwis barely look like birds. The beak and the feet seem planted in the body, and the latter, short and robust, are so spread that they sway in running like a mechanical toy. Their long and rough plumage totally hides their rudimentary wings of 5 cm. Their wings and tail are featherless and the plumage that covers them has the appearance of fur because it lacks crisscrossed barbules; it is dense over all of the body with the exception of a bare patch on each side, under the stumps of the wings. This is where the Kiwi tucks its head and beak when it sleeps.
Kiwis are the only birds which have nostrils which open at the end of the beak, which measures 15cm. They have a fine sense of smell, contrary to the majority of birds, which allows them to discover the larvae and worms they feed on. Their vision, rather weak, is compensated somewhat by long straight hairs which okay a sensory role, and are located at the base of their beak.
The nest of the Kiwi is a burrow which, like the homes of the majority of Ratites, is covered by the male. The white eggs with a chalky surface are enormous (close to 13cm). They weigh around a pound, almost a quarter of the weight of the female. The clutch is thus limited to one, rarely to two eggs, which hatch after 75-80 days.
No bird or animal on the earth is considered more of a symbol of its country than the Kiwi. It's featured as the principle motif in the arms of New Zealand, and appears as well on its money and postage stamps. It's used as a brand logo for textiles, shoe polish, flour, and a whole lot of other products of New Zealand. New Zealand troops abroad are proud to call themselves "Kiwis".

ok because this is my blog and i can do whatever i want im going to do a year in review of 2024 and all of the crazy and not so crazy things that happened january
january was pretty chill, was back home for j-term. friend stayed with me for the first three weeks; had a brutal obstructing kidney stone, my worst one in 5 years, i passed it a few hours before my flight to arizona! that was an amazing trip; my uncle kept it together and i got to see so many cool rocks, go skiing, and spend good quality time with the family. romantically stagnant, mild homoerotic friendship
february
this was a worse month for me. went back to college, seasonal (?) depression was hitting hard. homoerotic friendship turned platonic, had a brief fling with someone else. went to boston to see mistki and visit friends, got back into watercolor
march
still kinda depressed in the beginning of march but things were looking up. blarney!! and started becoming closer with new people. few days of warm weather lifted my spirits. and then france!! still hate skiing but had so much fun with family and friends eating good food and seeing amazing views of the alps. learned how to play pool, got lost on the mountain and ended up wasted at the club at 3pm. got wooed by some british boys. also got approved for study abroad! came back home and immediately got super sick. like 10 days of fever and such
april
april was a great month. once i stopped being sick, i got closer with my new friends thanks to my comp sci class. there was an earthquake!!!! that happened during my independent research meeting with my prof about earthquakes. i was the first one to see the signature on the seismometer. it was a great day to be a geologist on the east coast. then the eclipse!! what a wonderful event to witness with some dear friends. despite being together for 17 hours straight, 14 of which were in a car stuck in traffic, we had so much fun. this was also the month of four leaf clover hunting and snacks in the cafe after class. emo prom!!! probably the best month of the year
may
another amazing month! finals came and went, lots of sunbathing on the quad with friends. emotional goodbyes and lots of hugging. coming back home and spending more time with friends. fun dates around the city! julia jacklin concert! field trip to oregon was another amazing experience. sleeping in yurts, cooking dinner by campfire, hanging out with my friends and a service dog. my professor secretly being a huge lucy dacus fan. getting a cold with my friend but toughing it out!! caves, mountains, volcanoes. obsidian pile that we slid down! memorial day weekend: 2hr drive to mt st helens, hike around, 3.5 hr drive to portland, 5 hr flight home, 45min taxi home, 45minsubway to train, 3 hour train, 1hr car ride to cousins grad party, party for 8 hours, 5 hour car ride home.

oh boy. field camp was tough. lots of small good moments (seals in kaikoura, the hot tub, frost in the mornings, sam's chocolate pudding, sunrise over the southern alps, the view from bealy's spur, the entire view of the milky way) but lots of tough moments. not exactly clicking with the rest of the group, struggling to keep up physically. kept putting myself out there, trying to connect with people, no matter how unsuccessfully. went skiing again (even though i hate it! i know i hate! why do i torture myself) just to say i skiied on three continents this year. started work on my research project. the field experiences were very cool and im glad i got to have them
august
august was a very up-and-down month. fucked up my hair by accident and went back to dark red. went to a queer event and met cool people (including a couple who wanted me to be their third). ended up in that polycule for a hot second (hello sexual reawakening!!!!). things were looking up! the timaru/mt cook trip was beautiful and also emotionally devastating (why was i being bullied at the ripe age of 20). cried in bed for three days afterwards
september
westport!! this was a great field trip. befriended both some kiwis and other people in my program i hadn't jived with before. super hard work -- up at sunrise, work in field til sundown, then come home and work until bed, rinse and repeat. very rewarding (even if i almost failed my field sketch). m&m ham incident. new friend turns racist. couple ended up closing the relationship; i meet someone new which goes very well. still struggling overall with lack of substantial friends and fighting through homesickness and depression
october
pretty rough and pretty fun. was super ready to come home, didn't really care about anything anymore. had threesome with new person, bf turned out to be racist (why is this a pattern). saw the southern lights!!!!! cried a bit at southern lights. worked on and presented research (i am quite proud of this!). got a little bit closer with other kiwis, as well as program people. had a harder time saying goodbye than expected.
november
auckland!! solo travel! hobbiton tour and beautiful swiss man and touching my knee in the glowworm caves and having hot sex on the floor of a hostel shower. old israeli roommate who kept notifications on full volume in shared room. wine tour, art museum, volcano, fresh focaccia with red onions and olives and sundried tomatoes. the election, and the support from a random dutch woman. lesbian archive with lesbian belgian couple. hawaii with my mom! more volcanoes, relaxation and stress, pregnancy scare. destroy boys concert, cousins staying with us for a week with new baby, meeting dan and phil and friends, thanksgiving blowing up my extended family.
december
a solid month. visited friends at college (felt like a whole human again!), spent time with grandparents and learned how to do linoleum prints. new clothes, judging speech tournament, random assortment of health issues (strep, boob pain, brown bumps on ear). christmas eve at the met. nosferatu, exploring with family, excellent pizza and a perfect new years to end it all.
here's to 2025!

Over the years we have come across a multitude of questions about candy floss. Some are quite sensible, others belong in a joke book. We are going to look at, and try to answer some of our favourites. Can Dogs Eat Candy Floss Candy floss in itself isn't harmful to a dog. It is basically pure sugar. However it will lead to a blood sugar spike, then subsequent drop, which isn't the best thing for your pet. Because most breeds tend to be smaller than humans this will be more pronounced, and because dogs aren't used to a sugar intake that high it amplifies the effect. So we wouldn't recommend giving them more than a pinch of floss. Who Invented Candy Floss A dentist. No really, it was a dentist. To be fair, he wasn't just a dentist. He was a political activist, invented a method to purify Nashville's water supply, wrote children's books and invented a lard substitute. William J Morrison really was a dentist. He didn't invent candy floss per se. Cooks had been making spun sugar for hundreds of years. What he did invent was the electric candy floss machine. Or as he called it then fairy floss. This enables large quantities of floss to be made very quickly. Previously making spun sugar was a tedious affair, suitable for topping small cakes and the like. He debuted his machine in 1904 at the St Louis World Fair. It was an instant success, he sold 68,655 boxes of the stuff at $0.25 a pop. That's the equivalent of selling $500,000 worth allowing for inflation. Why Do Some People Call It Cotton Candy If you call it cotton candy you are most probably from North America. Which is a little strange, because they originally called it Fairy Floss. Sometime after thew switched to Cotton Candy. The Australians and New Zealanders still refer to it as Fairy Floss. Us Brits Candy Floss, The South Africans Tooth Floss, though the Afrikaners call it Spookasem (Ghosts Breath). The French barbe a papa (Daddy's Beard), Dutch Suikerspin (Sugar Spider), and the Persians Pashmak (Wool Like). So the name all depends on where you come from. Is Candy Floss Bad For You We once read that there are no poisonous substances, just poisonous doses. For instance, water is widely regarded as one of the healthiest things you can partake of. However drink too much and you die. Candy Floss is the same, sugar, pretty much all it is made of, other than a minute trace of colouring. Is one of the basic requirements for life. No sugar in your body and you end up dead. So a little candy floss won't do you any harm. If you eat nothing but floss, then you will become really fat, lose most of your teeth, and can trigger sugar diabetes. So our tip is everything in moderation. Can I make Candy Floss At Home You certainly can, chefs have been making it for hundreds of years. A simple recipe is available here. You can also buy cheap little electric machines that make it in the same way as the commercial machines do. Truth be told they are not very good, but they do work well enough for a kids party or similar. Does Candy Floss Go Off Not really. Bacteria, which is usually responsible for food spoiling, doesn't like sugar rich environments. This is why throughout history sugar has been used to preserve food. You can't get much more sugar rich than candy floss. Additionally the heat generated to make the floss, around 186 Celsius. Makes sure that the floss is pretty much sterile as it is being made. However, what does happen, is that the floss gradually absorbs moisture. This leads to it shrinking back into its sugar form, so after a while you end up with a coloured sugar lump instead of a bag of floss. Happily popping it in the freezer means it will last months. The best bit is, you can eat it straight from the freezer as it doesn't actually freeze. The cold air doesn't contain moisture so it extends the life. Is Candy Floss Halal It can be. The ingredients are sugar, and basic colouring flavourings. Now sugar is just pure sugar so no problems there. The flavourings and colouring depends on what exactly is used. Red colour tends to contain the powdered shell of a species of beetle. Called cochineal it is a species native to North America. Alternatives are available, but if you want to be 100% sure then just eat white candy floss. That is made with nothing but sugar, and Silver Spoon brand is both halal and kosher. Where Do I Buy Candy Floss Near Me Any local funfair will sell floss. Many supermarkets have small tubs available. Or there are mail order sellers. How Is Candy Floss Made A band of happy pixies live in the bottom of the machine, merrily knitting the sugar in to candy floss and pushing it through the little holes in the centre of the machine for the operator to collect with a stick. Of course some people claim there is a scientific explanation, personally we like the one above, but if you are one of those boring grown ups who think magic isn't real, here is an alternative explanation. The sugar mixture is poured into a rotating drum. The high speed of the drum forces the mixture against a wire mess around the perimeter. This mesh is heated to 186 degree celsius. This heat breaks the bonds of the constituent molecules (carbon, oxygen and hydrogen C12H22O11). The hydrogen and oxygen atoms form molecules of water, which instantly evaporate due to the intense heat. This leaves only carbon behind, which burns and begins to caramelise the sugar. As it caramelises the liquid sugar is forced through the tiny holes in the mesh and solidify as they meet cooler air. As this is happening thousands of times a second. You get a mass of candy floss composed of these filaments which are just 50 microns in diameter. Why Is Candy Floss Pink Actually it isn't. Pure candy floss is white. The only ingredient is sugar. For other colours of candy floss you add a tiny amount of colouring. So it can be pink, blue, green, orange, yellow, purple and so on. It tends to come out as pastel colours, so you dont really get a deep red, it comes out pink. Does Candy Floss Have Gelatin In As a general rule no it does not. But, you would need to know the food colouring ingredients list used to change it's colour. There are literally hundreds of different food colourings out there, so some may contain gelatin. To be absolutely safe, eat white candy floss, as this is entirely pure sugar. What Goes Well With Candy Floss Far and away the most popular is popcorn. The two can be combined on a single cart and are ideal for weddings, parties or events. Victorian Catering Cart Read the full article

Author Interview: Andrew Masseurs
Tell us about yourself.: My Name is Andrew Masseurs and I am from Wellington, New Zealand. I've got two dogs and two cats. I'm a crazy guy who grew up playing cricket and football (soccer) I love working out and exercising. I've got the most beautiful women in the world as my wife and four fantastic kids. I love life and love creating. Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?: Grew up in Wellington, New Zealand. I suppose I have a kiwi way of thinking. Whatever that is. A spry optimism mixed with a never give up attitude and a hint of humour. It's all in there. Do you have any unusual writing habits? I don't start a chapter til I am happy I have all the elements that I think will make it work in my head. Then as I start writing all those elements are thrown out and I rewrite it. Crazy, but it happens every time. What authors have influenced you? Grew up in Wellington, New Zealand. I suppose I have a kiwi way of thinking. Whatever that is. A spry optimism mixed with a never give up attitude and a hint of humour. It's all in there. Do you have any advice for new authors? Be yourself. There's no one like you. What is the best advice you have ever been given? Be yourself. Robin Williams as the Genie, Aladdin. What are you reading now? The Stand Stephen King. (Second time) What's your biggest weakness? Food What is your favorite book of all time? The Shining Stephen King followed by all J K Rowling's stuff. When you're not writing, how do you like to spend your time? Spending time with my family, exercising, Spending time with my wife, eating my favourite breakfast at my favourite cafe, working to pay the bills (Writing doesn't pay the bills) thinking about what I'm about to write. Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you? There was an old lady that swallowed a fly. Freaked me out man. What has inspired you and your writing style? I have no style. My style is my own. Marketers say as an author try to compare your book to other authors so readers can find you. I cant compare my style to other authors. The inspiration is everything I've ever watched, read and heard mixed up and written on paper. What are you working on now? The third book in the A Day in the Life Apocalyptic book series, tentatively called, Days of fury. What is your favorite method for promoting your work? I've read and listened to many marketing books. I'm trying everything and anything. Luckily the first book in the series is a short novella. So my favourite marketing took was to make the eBook and audiobook free. People love a free giveaway. What's next for you as a writer? I'm planning out my book series. I'm currently releasing book two called The Day After. Next I'm writing the next two books together. I like to write two book at a time so I can come back to one fresh. And also planning the rest as I write. How well do you work under pressure? Very well. My work could quickly snowball if I don't manage my time. Writing while balancing everything else in my life is working under pressure. Remember to have fun. How do you decide what tone to use with a particular piece of writing? The particular piece of writing and relationships decide the tone. The first two books have been written in pov and third person. Each one was different because of the characters in the book. The first one was someone very much like myself. So I could get in his head no problem. The second one was a fourteen year old girl. The character established it should be third person. Characters are everything. If you could share one thing with your fans, what would that be? That I've loved writing my stories. That I've sat and cried, laughed and cheered while writing them. Because I've enjoyed them I'm sharing them so others will too. I really started writing as an alternative to watching too much TV. Take a break from the box. Read my books. Have fun. 1. Do you enjoy rhododendrons? Why did I think this was a shape? Anyway, I just looked this up and they're very pretty for sure! They *kind of* remind me of peonies, which are my favorite.
2. Have you ever met someone who supports Nazism? I haven't met anyone irl but I've come across brainrotted people on Facebook who've tried to pull off stupid Nazi shit. Filipinos are great at making stuff go viral though lmao so afaik those people have since been suspended.
3. If you’ve ever been to another country, what was the best thing you did there? The obvious answer is going to Thailand to see BTS' Suga in concert. Apart from that, the best thing I've ever done was have local sushi in Japan. I didn't even go to a fancy fine dining restaurant – it was this random diner-like spot we found at a nondescript block at 4 PM. And yet it was the best sushi platter I've ever had.
4. Which is your favorite print: Plaid, animal, stripes, spots, other? I like the look of stripes the most, but overall I'd still avoid print.
5. Have you ever owned a cell phone for over a year? If so, was it still working well? I've never owned a cellphone for less than a year...so, yes. Mine is still working well, but the battery is well under its capacity since I've always had a bad habit of letting it play videos all night long.
6. What’s the worst sickness you’ve ever had? Food poisoning has always been terrible to me. My stint with Covid was also pretty rough. Managed to avoid it for three years, then once it caught up to me it certainly did a great job transforming me into a corpse for a week.
7. What do you enjoy more: Fairs or circuses? Fairs.
8. Is your favorite animal something you can have as a pet? Dogs yes, elephants nope.
9. Are you good at gardening? No, never tried it.
10. What was the last classic novel you read? Did you enjoy it? I started Around the World in Eighty Days but never got around to finishing it. It was nice; I just never had the time to read the whole thing.
11. Do you think you would actually read any of the epic poems, such as Beowulf or The Iliad? We took up both of those – Beowulf for sure, Iliad I'm almost certain we did, if I'm remembering correctly. Learning them both was a fun experience but I wasn't passionate enough to put like 105% into analyzing them lol if that makes sense. I just wanted to do well enough to pass.
12. Are you the type of person who feels guilty after eating junk food? I don't feel guilty but I will feel gross because the oiliness kicks in so fast, lol.
13. Tell me about a time when you felt like you had no real friends: I was in 6th grade, everyone was obsessed with the latest trends and had a Blackberry and were hanging out at Eastwood on the weekend and had a solid set of friends. At that point Angela started finding new friends too and was adjusting so much better than I ever would have at the time; my two next closest friends migrated to Canada and New Zealand in rapid succession; and the only friend I had was super unstable and wasn't exactly the most well-behaved nor the teacher's favorite. I had a shit life at home and my mom was in her peak rage phase...idk. It was a year where I didn't talk very much.
14. Have you ever felt betrayed by someone? If so, what did they do to make you feel that way? Sure, it's happened. Just stuff I don't feel like getting into.
15. Which is better: Xbox 360 or PS3? Or are you someone who doesn’t care? I don't care and don't think of them in terms of which one is better - but in my family we've always had Playstations.
16. Have you gotten registered to vote yet? I registered when I wasn't even 18 yet, haha. I was very excited to be able to vote.
17. What do you like best about your favorite actor? How about favorite actress? I don't have a favorite actor. As for Kate Winslet, girl just knocks it out of the park in everything she's ever acted in. She's just so good at playing roles of unconventional, deeply troubled characters, digging into that character's psyche and creating a personality for it that will be memorably Hers. I'll allllways always always love her.
18. Tell me how you’re feeling in another language: Pagod.
19. Would you rather drink water all day or Coca Cola all day? Water.
20. Name three movies which have a soundtrack you really love: I don't really pay attention to movie OSTs tbh.
21. Do you think Gatorade tastes refreshing or just gross? Haven't had Gatorade in yearsssssssss.
22. What’s the scariest video game you’ve ever played? Not sure. I don't get spooked much by video games.
23. Do either of your parents get angry over small things? My mom does, 100%.
24. What is the most dramatic TV show that you watch? Grey's Anatomy has to be up there, lmao. Queen of Tears was also such a rollercoaster of a watch.
25. Do you still watch VHS tapes? Nope.
26. Have you ever visited one of the states that doesn’t have sales tax? Was it a nice change? I've never been to the States.
27. Have you ever had Dutch Brothers’ coffee? Nope.
28. What are your grandparents like? Are they nice or mean? They are very kind, very loving people – my grandparents on my dad's side are not very verbally expressive when it comes to love, but they definitely show it and they are very sweet in doing so; like my grandma offering to massage my shoulders and braid my hair, and my grandpa making me his signature snacks and meals.
My grandma on my mom's side is far more expressive; she'll call everyday to check on us, say I love you, hug us...but then again we grew up with her so that's probably why it's easier for her to do these things with us. Both are, understandably given their generation, very traditional and having them consider more modern ways of thinking is Actually impossible. LGBT+ anything is always gonna be wrong, divorce is wrong, abortion is wrong, I can't go out wearing shorts, I should find a man who will treat me well, Jesus is the way the truth the life blahblahblahblah...
29. Do you own any pet fish? What kind of fish are they? Nope.
30. Do you have a turntable and vinyls that you regularly play? I do not. I've always wanted one, but I don't think I'd be able to sustain it as a hobby.
31. What is the most irritating thing that a boyfriend or girlfriend has ever done to you? Gaslighting. :)
32. Have you ever thrown up from being so nervous? What was happening that made you so nervous? Nah, but I've cried from nerves. We were having org elections and I was up for a vice-presidential position and it was going to be my first miting de avance...so I ended up having a quick lil breakdown of sorts.
33. Would you rather be uncomfortable but fashionable or comfortable but unfashionable? Uncomfortable but fashionable. It's nice to look cute, at least for me lol. As much as possible I try to balance both, but yeah.
34. When was the last time you took your pet to the vet? What was wrong with it? There was nothing wrong with them; I just needed to get them anti-tick meds because it's required at the dog hotel we were having them board in last week.
35. Have you ever known someone who was in an abusive relationship? Yuh.
36. If you smoke/drink/do drugs, do you feel insulted when someone tells you that it’s bad for you? Well, no, because it's true.
37. Do you like skiing or snowboarding? Have never done either.
38. Do you find government buildings dreary and uncomfortable? Some of them are, but the others are beautifully-made – like our post office and our national museums :)
39. Name the last horror story you read. If you can’t remember any, name the last horror movie you saw. Feng Shui. Hahahaha
40. What happened the last time you were embarrassed? Drew was telling me frankly to get new glasses because he saw mine had a crack.
