TIMING: Current LOCATION: Harborside PARTIES: Mickey ( @pagingdoctorhart ) & Drew ( @oceanicblvd ) SUMMARY: While longboarding around Harborside in search of inspiration for a new painting, Drew runs into Mickey. Literally. WARNINGS: None!
Driving a large bulky van through town to run errands or just to get from one place to another wasn’t always worth the headache it could cause so sometimes Drew simply pulled out one of her longboards or skateboards and went about her business that way; zipping through traffic, swerving around pedestrians on the sidewalks at the last minute just for the adrenaline rush, and being able to quickly dart down alleys or back roads whenever she noticed someone trailing a little too close for comfort were just some of the reasons why she enjoyed it so much. Her father had taught her how to surf, her absolute favorite thing in the world, but her brothers needed to be credited for teaching her how to skate. They hadn’t wanted to at first, of course, but when they realized how much easier and less embarrassing it was to have their little sister tag along during their daily adventures if she could actually keep up they took great pleasure in being her teachers, especially whenever she’d wipe out and they were able to have a good laugh at her expense.
Drawing and painting was also another hobby of Drew’s but she had started to run dangerously low on inspiration so she decided that she would make one of her daily stops at the beach to scope out the scene and take reference pictures for a new project. The van had just recently had an oil change and was once again running like a champ, or as close to “a champ” as a fifty-five-year-old van could get, but the weather was nice, the sun was out, and she didn’t want to waste the good mood she was in by having to argue with the driver of some sleek new sports car for cutting her off at an intersection. Not wanting to waste anymore daylight she grabbed one of her favorite boards and practically ran outside, the rare feeling of excitement coursing through her veins.
People jumped out of her way when they saw her coming at full speed, a few familiar faces sticking out to her as they scowled and shouted out the worst insults they could think of on the spot. Drew simply grinned and continued on her journey, unphased by the angry pedestrians in her haste to make it to her destination, take her pictures, and make it back home before the feeling of euphoria could morph into anxiety. It was at times like this when she wished it were easy for her to be around others again - she used to not care about being in the middle of large crowds or surrounded by strangers but her entire perception of the world had changed on that fateful day at the beach four years prior.
“Hey, what’re you doing?! Move!”
A single pedestrian seemed paralyzed either with surprise or fear as she quickly approached him on her board and made no effort to move out of her way. She tried her best to swerve around him but it was too late, she braced herself for the crash and tried to keep her body from tensing up as much as she could to prevent any serious injuries. In an unsuccessful attempt to remain upright Drew reached out and grabbed the stranger’s arm right before she fell to the ground with a thud. It took her a moment to get over the shock of the crash but once her mind stopped spinning she frowned and balled her fists.
“Would it have killed you to get out of the way?” She mentally took inventory of her injuries: a scraped knee and hands, an achy hip, and bruised ego. Yeah, she’d had much worse but that didn’t stop her from being upset.
______________________________________________________________
Somebody’s dead grandma was particularly interested in Mickey’s Golden Girls tank top. Full disclosure, Mickey had never actually watched the show before. He had thrifted the shirt at a flea market with his sister a few months back and then took scissors to it so he could wear it on his runs without overheating and passing out. He had made it a little over a mile before his leg had started bothering him, so he was taking a break by the beach when the old lady had spotted him. He hadn’t realized at first. A rookie mistake honestly, flashing a smile at her simply because she looked like a harmless old lady. He should have known better than to trust something that he couldn’t prove was flesh and bone. She launched into a story about how she had bonded with her granddaughter over Golden Girls, but Mickey only heard the length of words it took for him to slip his headphones over his ears and turn them on, picking the first playlist available and turning it to full volume.
Mickey slipped his sunglasses on after that, cursing himself for slipping up so easily. As if he hadn’t been avoiding ‘ghosts’ like that for nearly twenty years now. Clearly, he could never smile at an old lady again. Truly a shame, considering old women absolutely loved him, and were very interested in his opinion on things at the farmer’s market. They also loved shading their own children by reminding them how proud his parents must be that he became a doctor, which was only ever a little awkward, considering.
The headphones completely cancelling out his sense of hearing and his sunglasses and hat limiting his vision definitely contributed to how Mickey had ended up steamrolled by the girl skateboarding down the sidewalk. He had slowed to turn just in time to see her coming, but not fast enough to react. His body only had time to cock its head to the side and wonder why the figure appeared so close before her wrist was wrapped around his arm and the two collided.
“Maybe. What if I had gotten out of your way and fallen into traffic and got hit by a car? Or somehow stumbled into the ocean and eaten by a shark? Bet you’d feel pretty bad then.” Mickey mused, his hat and headphones had both been collateral damage and fallen off his head in the fall. He scrambled to find them, at least comfortable knowing this girl was real considering the whole crashing into him thing. Certainly proved his flesh and bone requirements. “There’s definitely some kind of joke about falling for you in here, but I’m not really sure which of us it applies to.” There was a gash near his ankle where the board had run into it, and it was certainly going to result in a large bruise, but otherwise he seemed mostly fine. He noticed the cuts on the woman’s body as well, all seemingly surface level, luckily. “You okay?”
______________________________________________________________
Drew sighed and wiped the palms of her hands against the denim of her shorts as she silently wished that she could have quickly healed the minor injuries with her pelt. “Yeah, I’m fine. And for your information sharks don’t just go around attacking people, that’s an evil lie started by Hollywood when they released Jaws - more often than not people are attacked by sharks when the sharks become curious, feel threatened, or when the person is being dumb and splashing around for no reason. They’re not cold-blooded killers.” She tilted her head then added, “Well, most are cold-blooded, but they’re not all that interested in eating humans. As far as getting hit by a car… well, that’s on you.”
She awkwardly got back to her feet and threw the stranger her best scowl. “You’re about to get a real good punchline if you keep it up.” While the man scrambled to find his belongings, Drew noticed that her board had rolled a few feet away in the aftermath of the crash. As she moved to retrieve it from the side of the road she kept a close eye on the stranger, not entirely sure yet if he was as innocent as he portrayed himself to be. “Are you… hurt?” She figured since he’d asked if she was alright that she may as well return the favor, even if she didn’t plan on doing anything if he said he was seriously injured. He seemed to be a somewhat competent adult, he could tend to his injuries himself just as she planned to.
”You looked pretty damn distracted, most people are rushing to get out of the way of me and my board. I would suggest that if your music is too loud to hear someone coming at you at breakneck speed then maybe you should think about turning it down a little before you damage your ears.” Not that she cared, of course.
______________________________________________________________
“I’m not here to defame sharks” Mickey offered in defense, holding up his hands in surrender, “But I will point out that I’ve never attacked someone out of curiosity or when people are splashing around for no reason. Even if they’re being dumb.” If no other choice had been given, Mickey would probably choose to dive into the water with sharks than into traffic with people any day. If he managed to survive either one, people driving were a lot meaner about his survival than sharks were. At least he assumed they would be.
Mickey was pretty positive this girl was not a huge fan of him. Based on very subtle and hard to pick up on context clues such as scowling at him and threatening violence. Not off to a great start, but against his better judgement he decided that he did like the girl and that he could find a way to turn this around. Probably. “Ooh, good one. Very clever with the pun and the violence. Had me laughing and scared. Killer combo.” Mickey’s particular sense of charm mostly meant killing with kindness, plus an excessive amount of words. Its success rate was about fifty-fifty. She at least returned the favor of asking if he was alright, which must mean he wasn’t a complete lost cause. “Only my pride. And also my ankle. But nevertheless, he persisted.”
Well she certainly had a point there, Mickey couldn’t argue against that. This was hardly the first time that he had gotten himself in trouble with his noise cancelling headphones. He was pretty sure this was the first time it had drawn blood though. His ankle throbbed in response, but at least the skin hadn’t broken. He could tell that some of the scrapes from the other girl would start bleeding soon, if they hadn’t already started mixing with the dirt. “You have an excellent point, but also consider that I’m purposefully trying to block something out.” Mickey considered himself mostly honest to a fault, minus a key particular detail about his life. So he was happy to offer at least mostly the honest truth. “But, I am really sorry about you crashing into me. Not the best first impression. So let’s try again. My name’s Mickey.”
______________________________________________________________
Drew’s frown deepened. “All you’re doing is digging yourself into a hole you’ll never be able to escape. I happen to love sharks so watch how you talk about them around me. I’d rather swim with sharks than be around people any day.” Actually, swimming with sharks was something she’d only done once or twice in the past and it had been completely coincidental, but defending them was something she took very seriously.
Maybe if Drew was in a better mood she might have humored the stranger with some more puns but she’d almost hit her limit for the day. Her ride had been stopped abruptly and she was losing daylight - she wanted to get some good pictures of the clear sky over the ocean before it became too late and the colors started to change. “Something tells me your pride is used to being hurt, but I hope your ankle turns out to be okay. Don’t bill me if you have to go to the hospital for it, it’s your fault you weren’t paying attention.”
Well that caught her attention. People who were actively “trying to block something out” usually had very juicy secrets that she liked to collect almost as much as shiny objects. The more she had over someone the less likely they were to let anything slip about her should they find something out later down the line. She treated secrets like currency in the way that she liked to buy people's cooperation with them. “Got something you need to get off your chest?”
Drew’s frown finally softened as she fought against the smile that threatened to curl the corners of her mouth upwards. “Like the goddamn mouse? You’ve gotta be kidding. Sorry, no offense, that was just unexpected.” She didn’t like giving out her name to too many people, even if it was the fake one she’d given herself, but Mickey didn’t look or sound like he was capable of much harm. “I’m Drew. I won’t be giving an apology but I’ll accept yours. I still believe you were in the wrong.”
______________________________________________________________
Mickey thought about agreeing with the woman in an effort to dig himself out of this hole he had allegedly dug for himself, but realized that would be lying. As an honest person by nature, Mickey really only lied when he thought it was funny or important for the bit. In this case, he could not in good conscience lie and say he’d rather swim with sharks. “That’s really disappointing to hear because I’m a blast to swim with. We could play mermaids or marco polo.” He wiggled his eyebrows to see if he could win any type of affection, “Fine. You twisted my arm. The sharks can come too. Final offer.”
The ice was thawing. Mickey couldn’t prove that and he was positive that she would deny it, but he was making progress. By Christmas they could be besties. “You know that would really hurt my feelings if I had any pride left.” The trick to avoiding embarrassment was to always be in on your own joke. Mickey mostly liked to follow those rules and not take things too seriously. This girl seemed far too grumpy to have the same philosophy, but she seemed pretty resilient in her own right. “Luckily for both of us I work at the hospital. I don’t think that gets me anything for free, but at least I know how to treat my own ankle.”
Unsurprisingly, Drew homed in on his comment quickly. But Mickey was always prepared to shrug that one off. In this case by literally shrugging, “I’m an open book. You just have to ask the question.” He actually laughed alongside her unexpected chuckle. “The ironic part is that I wasn’t even born with this name. It was a nickname that I willingly chose to keep.” And now it actually was his legal name too. One of his stipulations in the adoption process, as if a thirteen year old orphan getting adopted by filthy rich parents had any real rights to make demands. “I’d expect nothing less, Drew. I’m prepared to take the fall for this one. Especially if you let me try out your board.”
______________________________________________________________
As much as she might not have wanted to admit it, Drew missed participating in carefree banter, it reminded her of better times with her brothers. “If you wanted someone to play mermaids with you all you had to do was ask, I’m sure there’s a lot of ladies or dudes around here who would race each other for the honor of humoring you with that. I’ll be with the sharks though so don’t cross into our territory.”
Drew couldn’t relate to that, she had enough pride to share with at least three other people twice her size. “You’ve dealt a lot of damage to my pride, I haven’t fallen off a board in years so add that to the growing list of reasons why I probably shouldn’t like you.” She nodded slowly, finally taking the time to really get a good look at the man in front of her. “Working at the hospital sounds like a pretty good gig. How much they paying you to clean the bedpans?” She couldn’t help the smile that forced its way across her features then. Fine, she’d admit it: it felt nice not having to carefully examine everything she said. Of course she was still skeptical about the stranger but at least he had a good sense of humor.
Being given the green light to ask questions was all the encouragement Drew needed. “What were you listening to before… y’know, you almost killed me?” She really wasn’t too interested in that but it was a lot easier to ease someone into opening up if she didn’t ask the big questions right out of the gate.
Mickey. What a ridiculous name, especially since he’d chosen it himself. She mentally gave herself a pat on the back for not coming up with something embarrassing as her fake name. “As long as you’re happy I guess. You’ll definitely be hard to forget with that name so well played.” Her eyes narrowed and she snorted. “Have you ever skated before? The sharks are gonna be the least of your worries if you get onboard and accidentally roll into the busy street.”
______________________________________________________________
Drew wasn’t biting yet, but someday they would play mermaids together. Metaphorically, of course, Mickey wasn’t nearly graceful enough to actually play mermaids. His best experience with water was usually in skates and skating above it while it was frozen. In this scenario where mermaids now symbolized friendship and hanging out, Mickey was confident he could make it happen. Even if he was definitely losing the battle right now. “The sharks are so going to want to join, for the record. And they’ll be invited and then you’ll be super jealous.”
Sure, it didn’t sound great, but a wide grin still spread across Mickey’s face, “Exactly. You shouldn’t like me. Not don’t like me. I think I’m already warming up on you.” he fluttered his eyebrows at her innocently and mimed a halo over his head. “It pays the bills. Or at least it will in a few years. Right now its pros to cons ratio is a little unbalanced.” Mickey wasn’t stupid enough to ignore his privilege in the situation. He could try to pay his own bills or fund his own college as much as he wanted, but he had a safety net. If anything ever went wrong, his parents would be willing to throw any dollar amount at the situation. Most people didn’t have that.
When Mickey was hoping to ignore ghosts, anything loud would do. So he wasn’t surprised to realize that he hadn’t really been paying attention to the song that had been playing. As little sense as it made, he had been paying all of his attention to making sure that he wasn’t paying attention. He pulled his phone from his pocket and checked the song before turning his phone towards Drew to show off the lime green Charli album cover, “My Brat Summer has extended to 2025.” While he appreciated the dramatics as someone who also practiced performative drama himself, he felt the need to interject on her claim that he threatened her life. “You are way too resilient to get killed by someone like me and we both know that.”
The irony was that Mickey wanted nothing to do with anything involving attention back when he was first given the nickname. Now, that Mickey felt like an entirely different person, but that didn’t change that he could recall the memories as if they had just happened a few years ago. Showing up to the group home hidden behind the social worker as much as he could. Hiding from the other kids as much as he could, until the one that had given him the Mickey nickname forced him to stick by his side. Good times, despite the trauma. “I like to think it’s a combination of the name and my charm that makes me unforgettable. If both of those fail I’ll just fall back on being memorable via annoyance.”
As much as Mickey wanted to hop on and try the board today, traffic or no traffic, the pain in his ankle protested the idea. Definitely a bummer, but one that could potentially work in his favor. “No. But if my ankle wasn’t killing me I’d want to try today. What if we exchange numbers, become friends through witty text messages, and then make future plans after my ankle has healed from your death machine?”
______________________________________________________________
“Oh, now you’re a fan of the sharks? You flip flopping son of a bitch, pick a side.” It was too easy, this banter. Drew had to remind herself not to get too relaxed, to continue to scan her surroundings and question everything. But that was just so damn exhausting when she could have just focused solely on the conversation at hand.
“I… didn’t…” Her eyebrows pulled together as she tried to think of some way to backtrack. “You’re kind of an asshole, you know that? I’m kinda glad I ran you over. You’re lucky it was with my board and not my van.” Was that deflection she sensed? “Not to rain on your self pitying parade but I think that’s every job, Mouse. I love what I do but there’s always a con or two no matter how perfect something may seem. The pros are just always more prominent and that’s why it’s easy to keep doing what I’m doing.”
Another damn smile. Drew could feel the ice in her veins slowly starting to melt and she hated the sensation. But come on, Brat summer? Ridiculous and hilarious. “The more you tell me about yourself the easier it is for me to make fun of you, you need to know that. The jokes are writing themselves at this point. I’ve never listened to it, sorry to say that I didn’t care to participate in the trend. I guess that makes me not cool. Not that I care.” Was being told that she was difficult to kill a compliment? Yeah, sure, she’d take it as one. “On the other hand you’re almost too easy to kill, unless the murderer gives you a minute to talk then you’ll bore them to death and you’ll escape with your life!”
Drew snorted. “Did you just ask for my number? All it took was for me to potentially seriously injure you and blame the entire thing on you and you’re asking for my number? The bar is in hell dude, raise your standards.” Her eyes shot down to his ankle, only partially concerned that he might have actually been hurt worse than he was letting on. Partially. “It’s only dangerous when people don’t get out of its way, hopefully you’ve learned a lesson here today.” She started to turn and walk away abruptly, as was her favorite way of ending conversations, but something stopped her.
“If you make me regret this I will follow you all over this stupid town on my board and run you over every chance I get. Got it?” She held out her hand for Mickey’s phone.
______________________________________________________________
“I do. But I’m kind of a likable one, right? Riiiiiight?” Mickey grinned widely and dragged the word out, “The irony of being called an asshole by someone who just said they wanted to hit me with their van.” Despite what it sounded like, Mickey didn’t hate his job. He just found it a little boring right now. It’d get better, probably. “You know, I’m not huge in the business of self pity. I do love the nickname, though.” He couldn’t claim the nickname wasn’t fitting. It was exactly how the nickname had been given in the first place. Mickey was pretty sure he had changed a lot since those days, but it was somewhat nice to see that not everything was gone. “What is it you do anyways?”
Mickey didn’t just know that the jokes write themselves, he expected it. He couldn’t exactly go around with the carefree attitude he had carefully curated without learning how to take a joke. “You can make whatever joke you want about me as long as it’s funny. As long as it’s not boring, I’ll take it all in stride.” The girl was adamant that she didn’t want to participate in a trend, which was very hipster of her. Someone that adamant that they didn’t care what people thought tended to care the most, in Mickey’s opinion. He thinks doth protest too much. “Alternatively, does it make you too cool to participate in the trend?” he tapped the side of his head knowingly. “Now that I take offense too. Easy to kill? Sure. But boring? I mean, annoy them to death maybe. But bore them? That hurts my feelings.” he scoffed at the accusation.
All of Drew’s combativeness just worked to reinforce Mickey’s idea that she was definitely warming up to him. He had already decided that he liked her, no matter how grumpy she may or may not be. He didn’t need everyone around him to be the same ball of sunshine that his sister, Estella was. Or himself, to a certain extent. When it came to blind positivity, his sister had him beat any day. But Mickey could be sunshine lite, and he was definitely sure that it was going to win over Drew. “You’re totally going to regret it, but only until you actually accept that you and I are about to be besties. Scout’s honor.”
______________________________________________________________
“Wrong.” Drew shook her head with finality as though that would be her final word on the matter. “I didn’t say I wanted to hit you with the van, just that it’s a shame that I didn't.” She thought about Mickey’s words for a moment and realized that for a long time she had been in the business of self pity. Until she’d finally woken up and realized that nothing was going to change and that she was just gonna have to play the shitty hand she’d been dealt, she’d spent most of her time crying and asking why it was her life that needed to be ruined. She was silently ashamed at how terribly she’d handled her situation, but then again was there even a “right” way to react after you’ve gone through something so traumatic?
“What?” She’d been so caught up in her memories that she almost forgot to respond to the question at hand. “Oh, I’m a marine conservationist. That’s partially why I’m so defensive about sharks, they’re just vibing out there in their natural habitat but get a bad rep because humans go and bother them.”
Drew smiled proudly and made a show of patting herself on the back. “Finally, I’ve accomplished my goal of hurting your feelings. It usually doesn't take this long, my record is three minutes. Sent the poor girl crying after a few short words. It was actually really pathetic, especially since I hadn’t even been in that bad of a mood the day it happened. But maybe bore wasn’t the right word… maybe you’d just talk so much and be so annoying that the murderer gives up and leaves to find a quieter victim.
“If you ever call me your bestie I’m… well, you know what I’m gonna do.” Drew snatched the phone from his hand and added her number into his contacts list before returning it with another stern glare. “Listen to me: we’re never going to be best friends, we’re not gonna sit up chatting and giggling, we’re not even going to bond. Get that idea out of your head now.” She felt the need to voice those words not for Mickey’s benefit but for her own. “You’re too damn bubbly for me to hang out with anyway, we’d have nothing to talk about.”
______________________________________________________________
“So you don’t want to hit me with your van because you want to be friends so badly?” Mickey questioned, totally prepared and understanding if she ended up choosing to run him over with her van. He was really banking on this coming off as charming. “That’s what I heard at least. You’re coming on a little strong, but luckily I feel the same way Drew. So I guess I’ll be your friend.”
Her job felt like a good enough excuse to defend sharks so passionately. And why she seemed to prefer the animals over humans. Mickey couldn’t say he agreed exactly, but he could respect the decision. Humans were exhausting, and Mickey acknowledged that as one of the most exhausting humans around. “No arguments there. Jaws really fucked everything up for sharks, huh?” At least it was a great movie. Not that he was prepared to admit that to Drew at risk of actually being fed to the sharks.
“Is that like a Guinness world record? If not, it should be. Get your photo taken and everything.” Mickey held up his pointer finger and thumbs to frame Drew in a mock photo. Drew had some venom in words for sure, but he wasn’t sure that she was actually trying to hurt him by saying them. It felt more defensive than anything, but he could just be projecting what he wanted to see onto her. “That sounds more like me, thank you for acknowledging that.”
The more that Drew denied their friendship the more that Mickey was totally sure that they were going to be friends. The thought alone made the smile grow wider and wider on his face, despite the direct threats given by Drew. That was totally just banter. “I’m making friendship bracelets for our next hang out for sure.” He knew she was full of shit because she entered her number in his phone despite claiming the two weren’t hanging out. “Don’t you worry about that. There is never a situation where I don’t have anything to talk about. Problem immediately solved.” With both of their numbers now securely saved in each other's phones, Mickey could confidently go home and shed a tear over the deeply bruised ankle he had acquired and was ignoring at the moment. “Once this ankle is healed, I will be hitting you up for the longboard lessons.”
______________________________________________________________
Drew stared at Mickey with admiration for how stupid he could be. It was truly a new level she had never witnessed before. “I’m running you over with my van and then I’m throwing you to the sharks for good measure. They’ll appreciate the sacrifice.” She raised a brow and nodded in agreement. She had a long list of things that made her skin crawl about the so-called iconic movie but she decided that it wasn’t the time to delve into that. Maybe soon, if he insisted on carrying on conversations with her - maybe she could bore him into leaving her alone. It was an interesting idea at the very least.
To have her photo taken and posted everywhere for the world to see was exactly the kind of thing Kailani would have loved but Drew recoiled from the thought. “No photos. Ever.” She didn’t want him to get any ideas and snap one of her because the less people who knew of her existence the better. She was supposed to be dead after all - she could come up with a new name and even add blonde highlights to her curls but at the end of the day her face was the same.
“You can make them but I’ll never wear one. Or keep it for that matter.” Unless of course he somehow made it shiny, then it would find its place among Drew’s other shiny things… but not on too high a shelf, she wouldn’t want him to think she actually liked it. “I’m not a good conversationalist, you’ll have a better time talking to a wall.” Her eyes shifted suddenly to the side before they could betray her and show the ounce of sadness that pooled into them. She missed having something to talk about… someone to talk about it with… She shook herself out of her thoughts and placed the longboard in front of herself so that she could place one foot on it, ready to dash away at any moment. “Or don’t. You could always just buy your own board and watch YouTube videos or something, you don’t need me helping you to learn how to ride.” Drew slowly pushed against the ground with the foot that wasn’t on the board but kept her head turned toward Mickey as she rolled away. “Go put some ice on that ankle, Mouse. You’ve gotta be in tiptop shape for your next shift at the hospital, the bedpans aren’t gonna clean themselves.” She laughed (actually laughed for the first time in years!) and gathered speed to continue racing toward her destination.

RIP ME OUT THE PLASTIC
ship: stereotypical ken x fem!popstar barbie!reader warnings: non-explicit word count: 2.4k a/n: Hello~ Welcome to my first writing post on tumblr. i just went to see the new Barbie movie and now I can't seem to get it out of my head; so until that happens, I will be both cross-posting old/new works from my quotev, wattpad, and a03 while making fics/one-shots for Barbie (2023) and other shows/animes I have written on my main-masterlist here. ★·.·´🇧🇦🇷🇧🇮🇪 🇲🇦🇸🇹🇪🇷🇱🇮🇸🇹`·.·★

Under the enchanting night sky of Barbieland, the moon casted its soft glow on the sea, laying out a shimmering path of light on the water.
The waves gently lapped against the shore, their rhythmic sound a soothing backdrop to the distant melody of music and laughter that boomed from the Barbie Dream House.
Inside, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement. All the Barbies and Kens danced to the upbeat music that pulsed through the air, their unique outfits radiating beauty and confidence. Sparkling lights twinkled like stars inside the house, creating a kaleidoscope of colors on the walls.
Laughter and cheers harmonized with the melody, turning the celebration into a magical spectacle that only Barbieland could offer.
But just outside the Dream House, Stereotypical Ken sat alone on the beach, removed from the celebration. Dressed in his signature beach attire—a vibrant Hawaiian shirt and crisp white shorts—he stared out at the sea. His usually bright blue eyes were now glistening with unshed tears, reflecting the moonlight and the turmoil within his heart.
Since Stereotypical Barbie had left for the real world, he had been heartbroken.
He understood why she chose her own path—Barbie was always meant for greater things, her spirit uncontainable.
She loved him as a friend, and he had come to accept that their relationship would never be more than that. Yet, the acceptance didn't ease the ache.
He sighed wistfully, thinking back to when he believed he and Barbie were the perfect couple, destined to be together. He remembered their shared moments—the beach parties, the tandem surf rides, the sunset walks in Barbieland's perfect evenings.
Their laughter echoed in his memory, and the love he felt was a flame that burned brightly within him but one that would never be returned in the way he wished.
"Maybe I was just a supporting role in her story," Ken murmured to himself, picking up a handful of sand and letting it slip through his fingers. "But what does that make me now?"
A few feet away, Ken's best friend Allan stood with concern etched on his face. Clad in a casual outfit that contrasted with the flamboyant party attire, Allan was always the observant one.
Beside him were Diplomat Barbie, elegant in her tailored suit; Doctor Barbie, her lab coat replaced with a chic dress for the evening; and even Tourist Ken, sporting his ever-present camera and a novelty T-shirt from his latest imagined trip.
Allan furrowed his brow as he observed Ken alone on the beach. Leaning closer to the group, he whispered, "Guys, have you noticed how much Stereotypical Ken has changed lately? He's been so down since Stereotypical Barbie left."
Diplomat Barbie nodded. "It's clear he's really struggling with Barbie's departure," she said softly. "We should support him."
Tourist Ken, never missing a chance for a sarcastic remark, quipped, "Well, he's definitely not the life of the party anymore."
Allan shot him a disapproving look. "This isn't time to joke, Tourist Ken," he said firmly. "We all care about Stereotypical Ken. He's going through a rough time."
Doctor Barbie placed a comforting hand on Allan's shoulder. "Exactly. He needs our understanding and a listening ear. It's important we let him know he's not alone."
Tourist Ken sighed, realizing the seriousness of the situation. "Alright, alright, I get it," he grumbled, his tone softening. "I might give him a hard time, but I don't want to see him like this. Honestly, I wouldn't know what to do if my Barbie left me."
Inside the lavish boardroom of Mattel, the CEO paced back and forth, frustration evident in every step.
Stacks of Barbie dolls, each adorned in a myriad of outfits and styles, surrounded the long conference table. Posters of classic Barbie campaigns adorned the walls, serving as constant reminders of the brand's storied legacy.
"Sales are stagnant, and we need a fresh approach!" the CEO exclaimed, throwing his hands up in exasperation. "Barbie needs a rebrand—something that resonates with a wider audience while championing empowerment and self-expression."
The executives around the table exchanged worried glances, fully aware of the gravity of the task at hand. They knew Barbie was more than just a doll; she was a symbol of dreams and aspirations for generations of young people.
Determined, the executives dove into brainstorming, each eager to impress the CEO. One by one, they presented their ideas, only to be met with the CEO's cold dismissals.
"A line of Barbie dolls inspired by famous historical figures?"
"Please, we've done that before," the CEO retorted dismissively.
"How about a collection of online Barbie dolls with augmented reality features?" another executive proposed, his voice wavering slightly.
"Augmented reality? Ha! Kids want something they can touch, not virtual gimmicks!" the CEO scoffed, shaking his head. "C'mon, people! I need something fresh! Something groundbreaking! Next!"
Undeterred, the executives kept pitching ideas—from high-tech Barbie accessories to Barbie-themed amusement parks. Yet every suggestion was met with the CEO's sharp wit and skepticism.
Finally, the tension and frustration reached a boiling point. The CEO let out a dramatic groan, pushing a few boxes off the table and clutching his hair in a comically exaggerated display of exasperation.
"I can't take it anymore!" he shouted, his voice echoing in the silent room.
Just as the CEO was about to indulge in his dramatics further, his assistant barged in, her expression urgent yet professional.
"Sir, excuse the interruption, but there's an important call for you," the assistant said, accustomed to her boss's fits.
The CEO straightened up, smoothing his tie and regaining his composure. "Who's calling?"
"It's the CEO of MGA Entertainment, sir."
A dramatic shift occurred in the CEO's demeanor, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. "MGA Entertainment, you say?" he murmured, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully.
"Y-Yes, sir," the assistant confirmed, noting the shift in his demeanor
"What's did he want?"
"H-He wants to discuss a potential collaboration."
The already silent room tensed, the executives exchanging curious glances. MGA Entertainment was known for being a competitor, and any talk of collaboration was bound to raise eyebrows.
"Well, isn't... this... interesting." The CEO let out a sarcastic, dry chuckle, his expression unreadable. "MGA Entertainment, the geniuses behind the 'BRATZ' dolls reaching out to collab with little ol' us," he barked with a wry smile. "About time, really, we all know how well that worked out for them, don't we?"
The executives chuckled, recalling the ill-fated attempt by MGA Entertainment to rival Barbie with their 'BRATZ' dolls, which had failed to capture the audience and eventually 'vanished' from the market.
Despite his skepticism, the CEO couldn't ignore the potential upsides. He leaned back in his chair, contemplating the offer. "Well, if they survived the 'BRATZ' fiasco, perhaps a collaboration with Barbie might just be their chance for redemption. Let's see what they've got to offer..."
As time passed, Stereotypical Ken wandered aimlessly through Barbieland, his heart weighed down by unrequited feelings. The once-vibrant atmosphere of the daily Barbie and Ken parties had lost its charm since Barbie's departure.
While the other Kens and Barbies danced and celebrated, Ken stood apart, shoulders slumped, feeling detached from the festivities. His sun-bleached hair, usually styled to perfection, now fell messily over his forehead. The sparkle in his bright blue eyes had dimmed, reflecting the emptiness he felt inside.
Yet, amidst Ken's somber mood, a subtle shift began to ripple through Barbieland.
The air crackled with new energy, an unspoken excitement buzzing like electricity.
He noticed that the other Barbies and Kens were acting differently—their giggles more infectious, their laughter more boisterous. They whispered excitedly to each other, casting glances toward the large Barbie Dream House with anticipation in their eyes.
"What's going on?" Ken asked Allan, who seemed unusually animated.
Allan grinned mischievously and nudged Ken with an elbow. "Oh, haven't you heard? A new Barbie is about to join us! And trust me, she's got everyone talking!"
Confused by the sudden excitement over the arrival of this new doll, Ken wondered what could possibly surpass the allure of his beloved Barbie.
As days went by, the anticipation only grew.
Everywhere Ken went, he overheard hushed conversations, whispers about the doll's distinctive features, and rumors of her unique style. The buzz became infectious, even catching the attention of the previously indifferent Kens.
Curiosity gnawed at him.
Intrigued, Ken found himself drawn to the Barbie Dream House, where preparations for the new doll's arrival were in full swing. The usually bustling home was abuzz with activity as Kens and Barbies worked hard to make everything perfect for the newcomer.
But Ken couldn't bear to be part of the excitement. He felt like an outsider in a sea of happiness he couldn't share.
Instead, he retreated to his favorite spot on the beach, hoping the sound of the crashing waves and the salty breeze might soothe his aching heart.
As he sat on the beach, lost in thought, dark clouds gathered overhead, and a faint rumble of thunder echoed in the distance. Yet, immersed in his own despair, he didn't notice or care about the magical display unfolding above him.
Ken sighed deeply, thoughts swirling like the sand beneath his feet. "Why did Barbie have to leave me?" he pondered aloud, gazing out at the vast ocean.
He reminisced about their time together—the laughter, the adventures, the moments they shared. He had thought they were perfect together, destined to be the ultimate Barbie and Ken duo.
"But I guess it was all in my head," he muttered. "She made it clear she only sees me as a friend, and nothing more."
The memories of their dances, the sparkle in her eyes when they were together, and the tenderness of her touch haunted him. Ken wondered if he had missed some sign, some signal that he wasn't enough for her.
"I should have gone with her to the real world," he mused, heart churning like the approaching storm. "Maybe I could have changed her mind—"
His thoughts were interrupted by a soft voice breaking through the turmoil. "Hey, you good?"
Ken looked up, breath catching in his throat at the sight before him.
The dark thunderclouds surrounding the beach parted, letting a beam of sunlight shine down, illuminating a new Barbie whose skin glowed warmly under the sun. Her braids cascaded down her back like a mesmerizing waterfall, with delicate pink strands artfully woven throughout.
Her plump, glossy brown lips curved into a welcoming smile, radiating warmth.
Her figure, with elegant curves, held a magnetic charm, drawing Ken's gaze as if she were a vision of beauty.
It was the new Barbie.
For a moment, Ken was speechless. He had seen many Barbies, but there was something uniquely captivating about this newcomer.
Her warm gaze seemed to pierce through the storm of his emotions, reaching a place within him that had been locked away since Stereotypical Barbie's departure. Her presence exuded a sense of confidence and understanding that resonated with him in ways he couldn't explain.
"Hey, you good?" the new Barbie repeated, lips falling into a slight pout as her head tilted slightly, eyes searching his.
Ken's heart skipped a beat.
It was rare for someone—especially a Barbie—to ask him about his feelings and well-being, considering they were in Barbieland where the focus was usually on fun and making Barbies happy.
"I... uh..." Ken stammered, trying to collect his thoughts while his heart raced. "Yes?"
Even a rock could see he was lying, but instead of pressing him, the Barbie just accepted it with a small smile and a nod.
The next few moments were spent in silence, but to Ken, it felt like an eternity. He was hyper-aware of the Barbie's presence beside him; every detail fascinated him, from the way the sun highlighted the pink strands in her braids to the gentle rise and fall of her breath.
The longer she stayed beside him, the more intrigued he became.
Finally, mustering some courage, he spoke, "I'm Stereotypical Ken. And you are?"
She turned to him, her eyes reflecting the sunlight like pools of warmth. "I'm Y/N."
Ken was taken aback. You weren't like any Barbie he had encountered before—hell, by your name alone, you weren't even technically a Barbie. Yet, there was an undeniable allure about you, a glimmer of a connection he hadn't felt in a long time. He blinked, struggling to process the name that wasn't "Barbie."
"Y/N," he repeated, savoring the way it felt on his tongue.
You giggled at his reaction, a playful glint in your eyes. "I know, it's different. I'm a new brand of Barbie called BARBZ—a limited collaboration between Mattel and MGA Entertainment. My message is all about embracing uniqueness and self-expression while promoting empowerment."
Ken's surprise turned into curiosity. He had heard of MGA's 'BRATZ' dolls before, but this was something entirely new.
"So, you're not like the other Barbies?" he asked, trying to grasp the concept.
You shook your head, a soft breeze rustling your hair. "No, I'm not. I'm my own person, with my own story to tell. Just like you are your own person, Ken."
Ken felt a strange sense of reassurance in your words.
For so long, he had been defined by his relationship with Barbie, but here was Y/N, a Barbie who embraced her uniqueness and encouraged him to do the same.
"Y/N, huh?" Ken grinned, his voice still tinged with vulnerability but more confident. "I like it; it suits you."
You beamed, delighted by his response. "I'm glad you do, Ken. And who knows, maybe we can create our own story together."
A part of him still worried that getting close to you might bring more heartache, given his unrequited feelings for Stereotypical Barbie. Yet, there was something about you that felt different, something that made him want to take a leap of faith.
"Yeah..." Ken echoed back in agreement, eyes softening the longer he stared at the new Barbie—no, Y/N's smiling face. "...we can."
And as they sat together, the clouds above fully dispersed, revealing a clear, star-studded sky.
The weight on Ken's shoulders began to lift, replaced by a sense of possibility he hadn't felt in a long time.

A/N: I just wanted to add, I am in no shape or form am advertising BRATZ DOLLZ hate 💀💀 I just thought this was a cool concept. I ALSO want to add that the BARBZ is in reference of Barbie + BRATZ not Nicki Minaj (no hate to the Barbz, but yall be wilding out here, so imma not get in that)

NO SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL; KEEP THAT IN MIND...
Name: Jeremy Lincoln
Nickname: Jay, Jem, Remy, Linc
Gender & Pronouns: Cis male & he/him
Age: 37
Occupation: Owner of The Anchor
Origins: Briar Ridge, South Carolina
Neighborhood: Beach Front
Relationship status: Single
SUMMARY: Born and raised in Briar Ridge, Jeremy is the oldest of 4 children. He has two younger sisters that follow after him and a baby brother to round out the family. Growing up he was always very physical, into everything especially if it were sports. He helped his father out on his fishing boat almost from the time he could walk and by the time he entered into junior high school he was a master at handling a boat as well as it’s upkeep. The Lincolns had a restaurant, more like a pub and grill, a surf and turf kind of place called The Anchor that has been passed down through the generations — started by his grandfather. His father and his best friend were fisherman, supplying the area with their hauls and The Anchor as well. Mom stayed home to raise the kids and ended up mostly managing the restaurant when it had been time for Jeremy’s father to take over the business. He was a very gifted baseball player, who won a scholarship to a university in Boston and had a promising future in the MLB one day. Unfortunately, Jeremy went a little wild when he got away from home. More wild than he was when he had been in Briar Ridge. He barely kept his grades up and went to classes but remained a star on the baseball field. It was near his graduation and with offers coming in from MLB that bad news struck and altered his world forever. His father died during a fishing expedition, having gotten caught up in a bad storm. So, he left university behind and his dream and went back home to Briar Ridge to take over The Anchor. His mother died not long after, passing away from heart complications. From there it was completely up to Jeremy to provide for his siblings and keep The Anchor in business. He’s been doing his best.
Welcome to Briar Ridge … [ JEREMY LINCOLN ]! Who is known as [ J / JER / JEM / REMY / LINC ] and was recently seen leaving their home in [ BEACH FRONT]. he/she/they is/are currently [ 37 ] years old. he/she/they resemble/s [ CASEY DIEDRICK ] and is a/an [ OWNER ] at [ THE ANCHOR ]. They’re best known for [ a rebellious youth ] and also, [ a baseball scholarship that nearly took him to the MLB ]. What is really important to know about them is [ he's the prodigal son, returned to his hometown to take over the family business and hold onto his family's legacy giving up his own dreams in the process ].
BIOGRAPHY
trigger warnings: death, heart disease
For Jeremy Lincoln he’d found that life was equally simple as it was complicated. He grew up the oldest of four children in a blue collar household. Something that he’s very proud of to this day, something that comes from beyond honoring his father and the legacy he left behind. It may have been the only way of life he really knew but in his heart and soul Jeremy also knew that he needed nothing more. His father, Harrison, or Harry for short, was a second generation fisherman and had both used that to support and supply a business that was a seed his wife, and Jeremy’s mother, had planted in his ear. To take over Harrison’s restaurant, The Anchor. The goal had been more so for the purpose of longevity, to keep her husband safe and their family in tact and whole. Fishing the seas was dangerous with unpredictable weather and fierce competition. She had also wanted to keep Harry home more as the often long excursions out for a haul were brutal to a family, mostly to a woman taking care of four children close in age.
As soon as he could walk Jeremy was practically climbing on his father’s boat, clearly the spitting image of his old man and destined to be following in his footsteps one day. Jeremy was the oldest, then there were two sisters in the middle, and a baby brother rounded out the family in full. It was just that none of them were quite built like he was. Jeremy was always a bit taller and stronger, rangy and sinewy; resilient. He learned to fish and assist his father on the boat before he’d move on from elementary school, only slowing down when he started playing school and community sports like baseball. By this time he hadn’t been missing too much, Harry was hardly out fishing the seas anymore. His dad’s longtime family friend, Chadwick, had been supplying Jeremy’s grandfather’s restaurant for some time and it was an arrangement that continued when it was time for Harry to take over The Anchor. He couldn’t help himself and still went out to fish when he could get away with it but ownership changed hands and the family transitioned into the bustle of running an establishment that had become a staple in Old Town.
What Jeremy had understood from life was that it was hard work. He grew up helping his mother with his younger siblings, fishing with his dad, juggling school and sports, and then helping out at the grill most evenings. Somehow, none of that stopped Jeremy from being a teenager ripping around town with experimental alcohol in his veins with his friends and teammates. In fact, as mannered as he could be he also had a reputation for being a rowdy teenager. Some part of him was rebelling from the structure and boundaries, from the non-stop working schedule, and an intense need for freedom and independence. That was obtained upon graduation from high school and entry into college. It put a little distance between himself and his family and the discipline that entailed and his first couple of years at university were wild. Too many nights out partying and getting into trouble, worrying his parents with coming up with bail money, and inking tattoos on his body. He had a baseball scholarship, couldn’t care less about academics, and began thinking if he could be good enough to go pro then his family would never have to worry about money ever again.
Sometimes dreams and hopes go up in smoke and that’s exactly what happened to Jeremy when his father met an untimely death. Harrison had had an accident when out fishing, getting caught up in a bad storm that destroyed his boat and left him out to sea. Coast guard search and rescue performed search after search but Jeremy’s father’s body was never found. It devastated the family, perhaps even the close-knit Old Town community. Jeremy never noticed that, too focused on his and his family’s grief and worrying about staying afloat. On the verge of graduating and MLB knocking on his door, he dropped out of university and went home to take over the grill. The family pulled together to run The Anchor, ownership was transferred to Jeremy per his father’s will request and he’s been working the establishment since.
It could be said that a couple of years following his father’s death that his mother died of a broken heart, but the clinical and official ruling for cause of death was heart disease. Feeling more alone than ever, doing his best to keep the ledger of the grill in green and footing the bill of his siblings everything became distant. Eventually it was too late, he’d been gone from the sport too long and his fate was sealed to follow almost exactly in his old man’s footsteps. So, he raised his younger siblings, helped them get into university, and somewhere found a few extra bits of cash to buy a fishing boat. Whatever free time he finds himself with he tinkers away on it, fixing it up and taking it out on short trips. At 35 he finds himself feeling old and weathered but content in that this was the way life was supposed to be.

Whether Beth knew Andy was taking her out so Corinne could decorate and cook didn’t really matter. She’d described her plans one night as they’d been curled up on the couch. Corinne had shown him pictures, websites and carefully described what she’d wanted to do for his sister. He really couldn’t say no, though she was sure he wouldn’t have wanted to. She’d taken a shirt box, wrapping each photo in tissue before arranging them inside, then taping an envelope containing her birthday card to the top. For dinner she’d prepared a carefully curated mostly vegetarian luau of sorts. With of course a few not-vegetarian options for Andy. The cake was brought out before the unwrapping of the box, Beth might not have realized it was perhaps a hint of things to come until later. As Beth sifted through the colorful tissue and began to unwrap the photos, Corinne explained her plan. The beach photo indicated the location, a mock ticket with the familiar islands clued her in to the intended destination. “You choose the time and put in a request for vacation.” She said, pointing towards another rectangular shaped bundle. Inside were photos of a surf boards and a small card containing name and address. “There’s a shop that will do a custom design, anything you want. You can draw them a picture or describe it once you’re there and see if something catches your eye.” She’d wanted her to have something meaningful and special to Beth.Though she’d never surfed herself, Corinne imagined it was much like other sports where individual preferences were best left up to the person doing it. Nestled amongst the photos though was one small box containing a pair of earrings Corinne had selected made by one of the artisans represented at the cafe. After Beth had sifted through every photo, Corinne gave her a fond a smile. “You choose the location, there are several photos of some intriguing resorts or perhaps you have a place already in mind and we’ll come with you or you can go on your own. Totally up to you.” “Happy birthday my lovely friend, I’m hoping to gift you with some peace, relaxation and a fun escape.“
[One more photo to follow….] ~*~ {{Reply to follow in second post!!}}

Top 10 Water Sports in the Maldives
Deemed a veritable paradise for water-bound adventures and activities, the Maldives is a dream destination for thrill seekers. Blessed with sunny conditions, the excellent wind and water conditions combined with high visibility make the island collective a must-visit hotspot for water sports enthusiasts. From scuba diving in its lush coral gardens to jet skinning around its pristine coastlines, here are 10 water-based activities that reign supreme in the Maldives.
1. Surfing
Ranked among the most popular water sports in the Maldives, avid wave riders will find that the archipelago is a year-round surfer’s paradise. Although the official surfing season in the Maldives falls between May and October, big breaks and monster waves are not difficult to find in this beach capital regardless of the timing of your holiday.
2. Parasailing
While this parachuting adventure may not be for the faint of heart, the captivating coastal views of the paradise islands the activity affords are one of the main reasons why everyone should go parasailing in the Maldives.
3. Jet Skiing
As the preferred pastime of guests based at Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma, cruising around the coastlines of the Maldives is a rare privilege that’s afforded to jet skiers. Jet skiing tours in the Maldives, however, are not only open to experienced skiers, as anyone can enjoy this exhilarating coast-bound ride in tandem with an instructor.
4. Scuba Diving
Home to some of the world’s most vibrant coral gardens, the marine life heritage of the Maldives can only be admired on a snorkelling or a scuba diving excursion deep below the ocean’s surface. Teeming with colourful tropical fish species including manta rays, sharks and barracudas, the Maldives is also one of the best places in South Asia to learn how to dive.
5. Kayaking
While it may be one of the more relaxing water-bound activities in the Maldives, kayaking can be a magical experience for families and groups of travellers who head out during the wee morning hours or the period just before sundown.
6. Windsurfing
Accessible to visitors during the off-peak season, windsurfing is a challenging water sport that’s best experienced in the off-coast areas around Sun Island and Kuredo Island.
7. Catamaran Sailing
While it may not be the most budget-friendly activity option when comparing the cost of various water sports in the Maldives, catamaran sailing is perhaps the best sailing option accessible to travellers holidaying in the archipelago. Sunset cruises are among the best things to do in the Maldives as it is an enchanting sailing experience during that special time of day.
8. Wakeboarding
Although it’s compared to surfing, wakeboarding is a far more challenging water sport, especially when considering the speeds involved. The period from April to October is the perfect time to go wakeboarding in the Maldives.
9. Kite surfing
Travellers with a penchant for daredevil antics will find that kite surfing ticks all the necessary boxes in terms of the impressive heights one can reach during a session.
10. Bananaboating
As one of the few water sports in the Maldives that can be enjoyed as a group or a family, this bumpy ride across the waves on a banana-shaped inflatable does not require any special skills or the ability to swim.
With so many water-based thrills and spills to choose from, every holidaymaker should try at least one of the activities listed above on their Maldivian getaway.
