An Important announcement ⭐️

So as some of you may know, though I’m not quite sure if I’ve said this before but before I was a writer on here I was an editor (still do sometimes). And I found out about tumblr from a friend @slut4milfsss who’s not active anymore :(. Basically she used her work piece for the intro in one of her edit and I was like “ I need to know where I can read that” and she directed me over here. And honestly at first I had absolutely no business or urge to write fics…. Until there were barely any Marilyn thornhill fanfics on here at the time, hence the reason for my username so I began writing my own fics and over time I eventually started writing on different characters/fandoms.

I’ve loved writing since I was in elementary school but my love really grew in high school, and I loved literature and I had that fattest crush on my professor Ms. Lane who’s now Mrs. Cambridge ( don’t worry guys she knows and she’s honestly fine with my little story lmao). Growing up with parents who had money wasn’t always the nicest experience, most of the time I used writing as a coping mechanism with my depression and anxiety.

Graduating high school a bit early,and then before going to college I took a gap year to really decide what I wanted to do with my life and I decided whole heartedly on psychology! But anyway cut the long story short, I’ve had this app for 2 1/2 years which is crazy because it feels like yesterday when my writing started getting recognition. I’m honestly so proud of the work I did and the friends and amazingly talented and supportive writer buddies I’ve come across but unfortunately I’m not 18, 21 and 23 anymore next year (2025) I’m gonna be 25….😭😔. Time flew so much! I literally remember my high school days, college days and university days as well as my gap year in London so well.

I’m a clinical psychologist and in June I did my final course exams and I’m now officially an badge clinical psychologist with my own office in NYC and let’s just say I love my job it has a deeper meaning behind it and waking up everyday and getting the privilege to meet and therapy patients struggling with their MH and working along side some of the best doctors has always been my dream. Recently I’ve started another short course work in neuroscience and it’s so intriguing. Trust me wasting your 20’s away in degrees is not boring it’s worth it.

With that being said. This year wasn’t the best or easiest year for me. Don’t even get me started on 2023.I’ve got a lot of good things going for me right now, new friends, for the summer I traveled to L.A, I went to one the the VP’s rally where I got a picture with her, new experiences and most of all I think I may have met the love of my life! <3. And now going into 2025 I need space and a little breather. I wanna do some new stuff, I wanna travel and I wanna be happy with friends and family and work on some personal relationships and most importantly myself.

With that being said I will be taking a break from tumblr and taking a step back from this account and writing in general . I don’t know when I’ll be back or if I’ll ever be be back (that’s not decisive as yet for now I promise it’s just a break) I’ve taken breaks before, especially before my CPB exams and some random anon people decided to bash me in my own anon box as if I don’t have a life of my own….. but anywaysss I know I have a bunch of requests in my inbox which I will try to get through while I’m away along with CHP 10 the finale of my lady d series. chapter seven: subtlety, you should look it up

blearily opening his eyes, chan quickly silenced the early morning alarm on his phone. whoever decided football practice had to be at the ass-crack of dawn had some explaining to do, because there was no need for this. especially on a fucking monday.

and did they really need to keep on the daily morning practices? the season was over, and there weren't even any friendly games until the fall semester. it was so stupid.

but still, he persisted. routine was something that chan really thrived on, and he wasn’t about to change that now. he’d get up, have a pre-workout shake, go to practice, meet changbin at the gym, come home and shower, then get ready for his day. which is exactly why he opted for all afternoon classes - it allowed him enough time to do what he needed to do in the morning, without feeding too far into the day.

he was glad he pre-prepared his shake the previous night, because it was taking all his effort to not climb back into bed this morning. grabbing his usual, stocked gym bag, he was quick to throw on some sweats and a hoodie before  heading down to the football field - which luckily was only 5 minutes away from his dorm room.

as usual, practice sucked. running laps of the field, 1 step run ups, dribbling and passing drills. why did they need to go over this so much? they were the best team in the state, this was kiddy shit to them. by the time they had finished - the coach had overrun the scheduled time, as usual - he only had about 10 minutes to get to the other side of campus to meet changbin at the gym.

why he also agreed to gym sessions three times a week with their local gym rat was beyond him. like, he did enjoy it, of course. the dopamine release was definitely needed, and he loved staying healthy and taking care of himself. but maybe jeongin was right… maybe he did overwork himself beyond repair. he was only 23, so he should give himself a break sometime. maybe over summer, while all his friends were traveling the globe, he’d check himself into a spa retreat. just chill for a while.

miraculously, he managed to reach the gym just as changbin was pulling up in the car park, and he rushed over to meet his friend. changbin had bought felix and jisung today, the pair wanting to get into working out and knowing changbin - along with his gym buddy in chan - was the best person to come to.

the four spent a good hour and a half working out, mainly focusing on chest and back as chan had already had enough leg workouts for the day. it was nice having a fresh pair of eyes to critique his posture, and he thoroughly enjoyed spotting for someone else other than changbin. the shorter man was too stubborn, and too much of a perfectionist in the gym for chan’s liking.

when they finally left, chan politely declined changbin’s offer of a ride back to the dorm - he and jisung were headed out instead of home so chan didn’t see the need for them to go out of their way. anyway, he liked his quiet walks through campus. he had a good few hours until his first class, so he could take as long as he wanted to complete the 5 minute walk back to his apartment.

shoving his headphones in, he began blaring music and swiped up his notes app to sort out some form of to-do list for himself. chan thrived on routine and to-do lists, the satisfaction of crossing a task off overwhelming great to him. realistically, all he needed to do was shower and organize his bookbag, but he figured he may as well do some housework and laundry as he had extra time. he hoped his roommates would appreciate it.

when he eventually got home (he wasn’t sure how he managed to triple the length of his walk), he kicked his shoes off and got to work on cleaning the apartment. there was no point showering before he cleaned if he’d just get tired and sweaty again.

honestly, he enjoyed cleaning. he was an avid believer of ‘clear space, clear mind’, and being a music production major meant he was working at home on new songs a lot. also, having his friends stay over for a few days meant more cleaning than usual. he loved his friends - his small, chosen family - he really did. but refreshing his home and spring cleaning after they’d left brought him as much joy as having them around did.

after spending a hour blasting his monthly playlist and cleaning, he headed to his room to shower. he left his phone on charge next to his bed, on loud in case anyone needed to contact him, and reveled in the way the hot water loosened the ache in his muscles.

honestly, it took everything in him not to climb back into bed after his shower - curl up under his blankets, stick on a dumb movie and eat the leftover pizza in the fridge. the outside world was just too much at the moment, and it was when he was alone - times like these - where he was glad to have a moment to himself and regroup his thoughts.

in fact, fuck it, he thought. why not take a day to himself? he was sure the faculty and staff would understand, given the state of woodsboro at the current time. what was stopping him? so, he pulled out his laptop and emailed all his professors for the day, saying he was taking a respite day. he really cared about his academic performance, and taking such a rest day to reset would allow him to regroup and provide his best work later in the week.

it felt safe, in his cocoon of blankets and throw pillows. it felt like home. literally nothing could make it better. just him, and the silence of his apartment to lull him into a deep sleep that he so desperately needed. surely, just an hours nap would be okay? surely, nothing bad could happen, right?

chan awoke with a start at the sound of his phone going off. fuck… it was gettin dark out, how long had he been asleep? what the fuck was the time? shit…. he was going to be late to meet jeongin. they had plans tonight - obviously, ending up back at jeongin’s dorm in his bed - but plans nonetheless.

regardless of their status as temporary lovers, chan felt awful for leaving his friend waiting. he had to call jeongin and get to their spot as quick as he could.

he stumbled around his room, pulling on the first outfit he found and quickly spraying some deodorant and body spray. his phone was still on his desk, on loud-speaker as he attempted to call the younger boy for the third time in a row. why was it going straight to voicemail? was jeongin that mad at him? for fuck’s sake, why was everything going wrong lately?

it was only when his phone dinged, indicating that he had received a text, that chan stopped and actually paid attention to his surroundings. he rushed over to his phone, clicking on the notification like it was his last lifeline.

hey chris <3 it’s jeongin, my phone died :( headed to our spot now, see you there!

a sigh of relief left chan’s lips. jeongin wasn’t mad, thank fuck. he finished his classes around this time (depending if they overran), so using a classmates phone to text him wasn’t out of the ordinary. at least he hadn’t fucked up majorly, he could make it there in time and make things right.

shoving his phone, keys and wallet in his pocket, he rushed to get his shoes on and out the door. he was a man of morals - if he made an obligation, you knew damn well he was going to go through with it. and it wasn’t a far walk to the wooded area they met at, just a couple of minutes past the back of the football field.

he hoped he’d make it there before jeongin, his usual slow walk turning into an almost jog with his nerves of things going wrong again. he couldn’t deny he was kind of a pessimist about these things, but given the state of the town at the moment he felt he was rightly anxious about anything and everything.

surprisingly, he managed to get there in a record 4 minutes, carefully treading over fallen branches and sticky piles of leaves to the picnic bench that was hidden behind all the forestation.

he sat for a few minutes, enjoying the sounds of the birds and nature around him, before he pulled out his phone to play a few games. jeongin would be there soon, he knew it. after a while his phone got boring, so he placed it on the bench and found himself slumped against the seat in his impatient waiting game.

when his phone beeped again, he’d never picked it up quicker. maybe jeongin had gone back to his dorm to charge his phone for a minute, and this was him letting chan know. maybe he had to cancel?

he pulled the notification up, his blood running cold as he read the message.

oh poor, sweet christopher. you really are gullible, you know that? sorry you can’t say goodbye to your boy toy - 👻

was this how (y/n) felt when she received her anonymous text? was he going to be the next victim? not if he had a say about it. with his phone gripped in his palm, he took off running back towards the football field, nothing on his brain except getting back to his dorm safely.

he truly thought he might make it too, the lights of the campus in the distance giving his warm heart some hope, until…

until.

a bang rang out behind him, and before he could even contemplate what it may be, he felt a burning pain in his calf. it was agonizing, and he couldn’t stop himself from collapsing onto the floor. looking down, he saw a pool of blood around his leg. fuck, had he been shot?

the pain was unlike anything he’d ever felt, tears brimming in his eyes as he tried to force himself up and keep going. this couldn’t be how he went, he had so much left to do with his life. he shakily unlocked his phone, the anonymous messages popping up again before he swiped away to pull up the emergency number.

maybe if he called the police quick enough, he’d get help. he couldn’t hear anyone around him, although he couldn’t bring himself to turn his head to look and check.

but with the blood covered his palms, and the shake of his body, he couldn’t get his phone to cooperate with him. with a groan, he looked around and instantly regretted it.

there were two people covered in cloaks and ghost masks approaching him, one brandishing a shiny kitchen knife, and the other holding the gun he assumed caused the damage to his leg.

fuck. this was it, wasn’t it? chan wasn’t one to give up, but even he knew when giving in would be easier than fighting. maybe if he didn’t give them what they wanted by screaming and running away, they’d show mercy. maybe he could reverse-psychology his way out of it.

was that stupid? maybe, but all he could do was try. he’d try anything at this point.

one of the figures grabbed his injured leg, the force forcing him onto his back as they began dragging him back towards the wooded area. his nails dug into the grass, gripping onto anything to avoid going back those dreaded trees, but also because the pain of the fingers around his wound was too much to bare.

with all the remaining strength he wasn’t using to refrain from passing out, he kicked his other leg out, successfully landing a strong kick to the abdomen of the figure dragging him. ignoring the groan of pain, he forced himself onto his feet and ran as fast as his injured leg would carry him.

clearly, if wasn’t fast enough as before he’d even taken 5 steps, the other figure grabbed him by his hair, the strain on his scalp causing him to yelp as his head flew back. his legs gave way underneath him, the grip on his hair tightening as if to keep him up.

he heard the blade of the knife whip through the summer air before he felt it slash the skin across his back, gritting his teeth in a refusal to show the attackers the pain they were inflicting.

he allowed them to continue their assault, given he didn’t have much of a choice, the blade penetrating his skin more times than he could count, the butt of the pistol being used to spread bruises and cuts across his face. his vision was getting blurry, the pain becoming a big ball of fire spread across his body, and he sobbed. what did he do to deserve this?

he was kind of relieved when they pulled away, part of him deep down hoping someone had seen the attack and was coming to help, but it never came. instead, he heard a call of his name across the field, before another gunshot ran out.

he put all his energy into tilting his head, sick pooling in his mouth as he looked just in time to see jeongin - his jeongin - collapse to the floor. the fuckers had shot him. this would kill his friends, losing both of them in one night.

the pain was overwhelming, and he couldn’t look anymore. his eyes squeezed shut, and another sob wracked his body. this really was it, wasn’t it? no goodbyes, no mercy, just him dead in this field after being murdered in cold blood.

a boot pushed his head into the ground as he heard a deep chuckle - unnervingly familiar - before he felt the barrel of the gun pressed against his neck. he took a deep breath preparing himself for the nothingness he’d fall into, before a third and final gunshot rung out across the empty field.

Haha well, things are a bit.. rough right now I guess. Just a lot of things going on with a lot of people. I'm doing my best to make sure I can support and care about the folks that matter to me- it just almost seems like bad news comes in faster than good these days. That and I want to have high faith in the election but I can't help but to worry. As for the men- Sean is off on business again until Saturday morning, but he's doing amazing at work. I just gotta do what I can to support him. Plus I'm not too bad on my own- I can handle it. This time of year that tends to happen a lot anyways. Everyone else is the same mostly, don't really change the roles besides the fact that instead of CC (Greg in og) getting possessed by my mimic/glitch trap, it's mike (for GGYthing. Name would be MCL.) And William is still evil. He just follows a similar role to Vanny in sb but isn't a reluctant follower. He welcomes vanni as a parasite. He also is still partners with henry (business) but now they just own fredbears megaplex. Henry is basically the same. Charlie and Mike are close in age and Sammy is here too. And Jeremey. Bc gays. everyones a bit older here so like 16-17. They all work (illegitimately) at the plex as security guards on weekends and afterschool. Cheaper to pay and it keeps them out of trouble (looking at mike specifically). Vanessa is a corpse bc uhh… michael counterpart. She still works at the company as a repairman, but is not seen till later. all 5 missing kids (susie, gabriel, ect) are here as well, and they do indeed end up missing (more on that later)

Now animatronics. 

Goes up to the toys bc i like them best. So the mini music men are the main toys, with mangle as the actual music man. There's only 3 mini’s obviously lmao. Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, Toy Chica. But they are very fast and perform with mangle in the arcade. Puppet is a map bot but also sun and moon?. she floats from the celling like moon does with his cord but thats where the similarities end. She gives guests glowing green wristbands that serve as the fazwatch in this universe. its for parents to keep track of their kid, using an app?? But here it is used to track kids to isolate them from each other, and make them go “missing”. Like circus baby if ykwim. Speaking of which, circus baby. I like her. So she's here as well. Remember peepaw afton. Yeah well that's circus baby now. Used to get vanni (parasite little bitch) what she needs to survive, a body of her own. 

And uh funny story. Elizabeth finds out that her dad is possessed by a parasite from the 80’s and her brother is controlled by something similar, so William takes action ig. But wait. I'm not letting her go just yet. Afterall, Evan and Cassidy need a buddy to travel with as well, right? Their 2 extra friends aren't quite enough… So more on that later for spoiler reasons. also no mimic bc i dont even want to delve into that can of worms... closest u get is circus baby. be happy its JUST circus baby lmao

Ok main animatronics. Roxy, Glam Freddy, Spring Bonnie, and Golden Freddy. All the glamrocks are present in the 1980's original diner, but Ness got a bit angry and uhhh... oops Vanni made her kill people haha. so they are. gone. for now. Roxy and Freddy are completely robotic and have no sentience. Not in the traditional sense anyway. But… Spring Bonnie and Golden Freddy are. Got all that fun AI jazz. They don't match up with any of the glamrocks in particular? Just kind of their own character. So obviously spring bonnie gets the glitch thing from MCL William and is trying to kill Cassidy and Evan. Same with mangle and the toys. But GoldF is like glamrock freddy, AS A ROLE. completely diff personality. So he helps the kids. And that's when stuff really goes down.

okay lets start with the emily’s becuase. because i can. Henry and William are partners in owning the plex and henry is known as the more approachable head of the company. he tends to walk around the plex and interact with all the kids and stuff. when shit heats up, he plays the role of trying to calm will down and figure out what’s controlling him in the first place. he tries to recode the animatronics (minus golden freddy) but it doesn’t… really work. fun stuff happens with him later >:)

now charlie. so charlie works as a security guard with mike, jeremy, and sammy on weekends to make a bit of extra cash. when mike and will get controlled (willingly or not) but Vanni, she takes the role of Cassie (sorta) and does her best to free mike. she’s the one who finds the foxy mask that lets her see wet floor bots. by deactivating the bots, she slowly weakens Vanni’s power over the other animatronics. she investigates what’s happening in the plex and protects the kids.

sammy plays a super crucial role to this au. he acts as tony in this au, and we all know what happens to tony in ggy… so uh not gonna say much about that til later but he is the MAIN investigator with charlie and has a fun encounter with mike eventually.

not an afton or a emily but jeremy is just tape girl in this. he records messages while he is hiding from william and mike because Vanni has deemed him a good host, even better than william or micheal. So he’s just hiding around and recording messages before he gets captured as a way to keep Vanni out of his head.

elizabeth is kind of still in the works story wise. she cant find her dad when he gets ‘captured’ by Vanni and then goes looking for him, and ends up in a room that she really shouldn’t be in. the scooping room. baby is there and takes the now organless elizabeth and stuffs her inside to be harvested for remnant. so… bye bye elizabeth. (ask from @hearts4ggy)

mike is definitely uncomfy with having his body be controlled by a weird ass rabbit parasite dickhead thing, but william is very good at manipulating him so he just stays quiet. not 100% sure yet how he gets all caught up in the vanni stuff but my working idea is that vanni needs somebody else besides william to do its dirty work so they choose micheal bc he’s perfect for the job. checks off all the boxes. hates his brother (meh) related to william, and very easily manipulated. william used circus baby to insert part of vanni into him (with like a microchip or smth) and that’s that. micheal initially isn’t reluctant becuase his dad finally wants him for something (ouch) and he’ll do anything to make him proud, but after the Sammy Incident (tm) hes very reluctant. hes pretty aware and vanni lets him take control of his own body when interacting with the kiddos.

mmm i think evan would notice mike was off but would stay quiet because hes got his hands full with cassie and gregory. Elizabeth is a similar situation to micheal where her dad calls her into the scooping room and she follows because again, william finally wants her “help” with something. she’s used for information about what’s going on with evan and cassidy but when she says she doesn’t know vanni gets pissed and kills her so that she can be used for remnant to keep vanni active in both micheal and william. if anyone was to notice something weird about micheal, it sammy, then charlie. and ofc jeremy knows becuase that’s who micheal is mainly after until vanni can locate the kids.

henry has a lot of shit going on in this au but honestly, he just hides. he finds sammy and sees micheal kill him but does nothing to really help at first. he watches micheal drag sammy away and then the kids and charlie find him. he can’t bear to tell charlie what he saw so he just runs away into one of the remote security offices, which is the same one vanessa was in. vanessa tells him everything since she’s been watching the whole time from cameras but she herself isn’t strong enough to fight back, so henry takes that role from her. using the bracelet sammy was wearing (it has his name engraved on it but its a special puppet bracelet) she tracks him and tells him where to go to get the anamtronics (who are attacking the kids) under control. (ask from @hearts4ggy )

This is kinda foreshadowing for the scooping incident i mentioned previously. but until that happens i would imagine vanessa being unable to deal with the lack of closure between her and gregory. he would show up in her dreams often, usally berating her over the bite. his death was caused by only her, no interference from vanny. and while cassie was killed out of desperation (more on that later) gregory was killed completely out of overreaction. vanessa had no idea that shoving him inside the mouth of the glamrock freddy animatronic would kill him, and yet her actions caused the death of someone she cared about. maybe the only person she ever truly cared about.

2020 VoicePlay winter activities — prelude to uncertainty

After they'd wound down the previous year in style, VoicePlay eased into the new year gently, taking their time to plan out a good balance of travel for live shows, music video productions, individual projects, and personal time. But the old adage about the best laid plans was waiting in the wings, ready to upend those plans and test their creativity in new ways.

The guys spent the first week of the year relaxing, spending time with family, and working on smaller projects. Geoff recorded a two-part bass singing Q&A that stemmed from his original tutorial video.

Although they didn't document it on social media as overtly as they had in previous years, the guys do seem to have started their travels together in January with a trip to New York City for the Association of Performing Arts Professionals annual conference. Layne teased J.None with a carrot-tastic screenshot from a restaurant's menu a few days before the conference, and noted in a comment reply that it was in NYC.

J then struck a pose in his show duds, with the location tagged as Times Square. He didn't post it until mid-February, but a conversation in the comments clarified that it was taken "last month", which also lines up with the timing of APAP.

The next day, VoicePlay headed north again for their first concert of the year in Maryland, where local a cappella group The Trills opened for them, and some longtime fans had a chance to meet in person.

Over the weekend, J.None took part in yet another 5K at nearby Lake Louisa State Park, and achieved a new personal best time.

The next week, he flew home to Virginia for a visit with family and friends, and to perform at a local bar.

VoicePlay eased into February with the latest installment of their not-so-secret patron podcast, in which Geoff and J hung out and answered questions.

While he was speaking into a microphone, Geoff also recorded himself reading another short story, "An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge" by Ambrose Bierce. The narration is surreal and unsettling, set in Alabama during the U.S. Civil War, told from the perspective of a dying wealthy Confederate, and was originally published during Reconstruction.

For the love

On the day before Valentine's Day, VoicePlay slipped into some comfy, cuddle-worthy outfits and headed to a local venue to film their first music video of the year. The way they crooned their supremely harmonious rendition of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love" is like an audible hug.

J spent the rest of the weekend with the Paradigm gang. First they rocked out at an open-air show in Lake Nona, then they celebrated enduring love at a lavish wedding reception.

A couple days later, Geoff, Eli, and J.None headed to their old friend Michael Andrew's studio to record some vocals together, presumably for their upcoming "Warriors" music video.

Camaraderie and care

That evening, J.None scooted out to Longwood for another showcase show at Jaica Creative Studios. It was hosted by Amanda Jay, who he'd collaborated with the previous summer.

Back on the home front, Layne was on dad duty. His littlest girl Doris took a spill off her scooter that left her with scrapes and bruises on her face the day before school pictures. So once the boo-boos were tended to and tears were dried, he put his years of accumulated special effects makeup skills to use and marked up his own face to match in solidarity.

Ups and downs

On the first Friday in March, VoicePlay started their next round of travel and live performances. Their first stop was just outside Indianapolis, where they had a rousingly good time.

Then they had one day at home before they hopped on their first — and, as it turned out, last — voyage of the year.

The cruise that wouldn't end

VoicePlay has performed on many cruise ships over the years. Other than a 6-month contract in their early 4:2:Five days, most of their stints have ranged from a few days to a week. When they boarded the Disney Wonder in early March of 2020, they expected to disembark just two days later and fly back home as usual.

Unfortunately for them, they were at sea when the Western Hemisphere started to take the pandemic seriously and went into lockdown. Ports closed before them in Colombia and Mexico, preventing any passengers from leaving the ship. What was supposed to be a four-day trip ended up taking twelve. They were finally able to disembark at the end of the full journey in San Diego. And, boy howdy, were they relieved.

Layne — maintaining his aversion to oceanic travel — had been comparatively safe at home, working on a new video project with Thomas Sanders and the PattyCake gang. He was happy to welcome his bandmates home at long last.

Layne also finished up VoicePlay's "Warriors" music video, which they'd filmed before the others had set sail, and released it the day after they finally arrived back in the Sunshine State.

The new abnormal

Like the rest of the world, VoicePlay and their extended network of collaborators had to make some big adjustments to their work and home lives during the early days of the pandemic. All of the concerts they had scheduled for the coming months were cancelled. Music videos already in the planning stages were completely reimagined or postponed indefinitely, and new content was formulated to take their place.

The parents among them needed to work around their kids' agendas even more than usual. As so many people do when faced with significant life changes beyond their control, Earl gave in to the urge to change his hair. (He also started a TikTok account, though he hasn't posted much since.)

Knowing that many of their fans are young and might more readily take advice from their favorite baddie, PattyCake worked with their resident Evil Queen to issue a proclamation regarding safety measures folks should take during the pandemic.

The end, for now

PattyCake finished the month by releasing the season finale of The Villains Lair. Due to the challenges of coordinating the schedules of such a large cast, they had actually started filming it the previous summer.

Knowing how the first part of the story was going to end so far in advance meant that Layne and Tony already had plans for the second season in progress, but they cautioned that the reality of safety restrictions made their future filming schedule a bit unknowable for the time being.

The ensuing months and years would continue to bring big changes for VoicePlay and those in their circles. Some have been sad, some have been joyous, and others have provided new opportunities for growth, both personally and professionally. But all of that will be chronicled in its own time.

I’m guessing you’ve either live in Korea or at least have been there but do you think Korea, Seoul in particular, is safe for a woman to travel to alone? I’m planning a trip there and I’ve read (mostly from other travelers) conflicting accounts on if it’s safe or not so I was hoping to get a local’s opinion. I’m not aware of your gender so the answer can be as vague or as detailed as you feel comfortable giving.

My family does and yes, after not visiting Korea at all during the pandemic, in the last year or so I've been able to travel home more frequently. Korea is very safe for solo female travelers. I suggest you take all the usual precautions like avoiding very crowded areas, watching your drinks, staying in well lit public areas, and communicating often with people you trust about your whereabouts. The subways are fine but taking a taxi is my preferred way to get about. Taxis aren't as expensive as it is in the US/UK, you're not expected to tip, many drivers can communicate in passable English too and you can download the app beforehand so it's not too difficult - I really suggest going for taxis over using the transit system in Seoul if you can. Also, if you're traveling before September, I suggest you try to stay above ground and avoid underground malls and subways as much as possible. July to September is raining season and flooding can happen very suddenly and escalate quickly. And just as a general rule, I'd say avoid public bathrooms too. It's something I personally do and it isn't limited to Korea either. Even though there's less molka instances in Seoul recently and sometimes fears do get overblown, I suggest avoiding public bathrooms in Seoul unless it's necessary.

I'm not sure if this would be fully applicable to you, but based on what I've seen, it's race rather than gender that impacts how many Koreans treat you if you're a foreigner. Rather, race more than gender impacts any considerations. And so I'd add, if you're lighter skinned, you're fine to move about solo all the time, but if you're darker skinned, I strongly suggest you try a buddy system while there. You can do this by joining travel forums and connecting with other foreigners going to the same destinations I think.

I hope you have a wonderful time in Korea! Koreans have the best cuisine after Japanese, Nigerian, and Lebanese food. In my opinion. If you like kalguksu there's many really good places along Donhwamun-ro near Unnidong. :) Good luck! 💜

i'm heading to thailand in a few weeks and it's my first time so i was wondering if you have any tips for a first time traveller? i also want to try and see some of the bl actors - how did you manage to see so many? help?

First of all can I just say how incredibly envious I am you're going to Thailand soon. I'd give literally everything I have to be back there. I hope you have the best time. Because it was a fucking dream holiday for me.

I do have a few basic tips for you:

1.) Download the Grab app (Thailand's version of Uber). Trust me when I say it's going to be your best fucking friend. @bestillmyslashyheart and I had every intention of using public transport when we were there but the Grab app was so fucking cheap and it was generally the easiest/quickest option to get to all our intended destinations.

If you're a solo traveller I recommend the Grab Bikes, they're your best option for beating the truly HORRENDOUS Bangkok traffic at peak times and they barely cost more than 150 baht for journeys no longer than an hour (if you're from the UK that's about £3.50 per journey- truly wild)

Also, another note on travel, if its raining or between the hours of 3pm-8pm and grab tells you it will be a 40 minute journey, double it, Bangkok traffic is no fucking joke. Gridlock city centre.

You should also download the BKK app if you do plan to use public transport.

2.) Always carry cash on you. Most places in the city take credit/debit cards but there is usually a fee and having cash if you're in the more rural areas of Thailand is a must. We learnt that the hard way.

3.) Learn basic thai phrases. I made a list before we went and they came in so handy. If you want my list feel free to ask but here is a few we used a lot. Sawadee ka/krub (polite hello) Kop khun ka/krub (polite thank you) Kor tord ka/krub (polite sorry) Hong naam? (bathroom?) If you can't handle spice, like my white ass, you might want to learn the phrase for "no chilli" which is: Mai Sai Preek or "not spicy" which is: Mai Ped

4.) 7-Eleven will be your saving grace. There is a 7-Eleven on every fucking street. No word of a lie. They're everywhere. And they're so fucking cheap. You need a quick snack to keep you going before lunch? Go to 7-Eleven. 10/10 recommend their toasties. Also a great place to stock up on water. 6 baht (13p) for their branded water. Also, if you're a BL fan they have a lot of the BL branded items from the shows in there. It's where I found the Kinnporsche sex bread, the kp helicopter bj nose inhaler, the between us green tea drink, the bad buddy seaweed snack etc.

5.) If you're planning to visit the temples you need to be super respectful of their culture. The main thing to be aware of is wearing the appropriate clothing. It's really important to be respectful and cover yourself when you're visiting these sacred places. Also most temples you have to take your shoes off before you enter, so I suggest wearing easily slip on/off shoes for your temple days. My crocs were a godsend.

6. Icon Siam is a very fucking overwhelming place. If you don't do well in crowds or you struggle to navigate, I'd say avoid Icon Siam. It's Bangkok's biggest and busiest mall for a fucking reason. And trying to get a pick up from any of the malls is a literal nightmare. The smaller but no less impressive malls I recommend are Siam Paragon and Central World (only 5 mins walk from each other).

7.) If you go during rainy season (which you are) always have an umbrella or poncho to hand and wear weather appropriate shoes. because let me tell you when that rain hits, it hits hard and it hits fast, and those streets are flooded within minutes.

I think that's all for the basics. But I can go into more depth if you have any specific questions. My dms are always open.

For the BL specific events, you should absolutely be following all of the big production companies on either insta (where I got most of my info from), facebook, or twitter. Most of them post the artists schedules a week or two in advance so keep your eyes peeled for those updates and check your availablity- lots of the events happen in the malls.

I would also personally recommend getting to the event a few hours beforehand to scope out the best area to place yourself. The main trick is to follow the obvious fanclubs. They're always posting about where they are and always have light up signs of the actors name on them. And if people are sitting in groups by barriers, that is where you need to place yourself. Most of the events are very well organised and will have barriers already in place fo the best views.

Don't be afraid to ask. Some of the fans won't speak English, but a large majority do. There's no harm in asking if you're in the right place.

And also on that note, if you see girls running in one particular direction- follow them. They're usually headed to the event you're headed to and they know the way better than you do. It'll save so much time and you'll end up with a much better spot.

I'll answer your question below the cut since it got kind of long

My first time tabling was in September 2018 at Crunchyroll Expo! I only did 4 cons pre-2020, the last of them being Crunchyroll Expo 2019, so I tabled for exactly a year before the pandemic started. Then I stopped for two years and started doing cons again in May 2022 at Fanime. I've got at least 3 more cons planned for this year including my first AX 😳 But my last con as of right now is Fanime 2023, so I've been tabling for a little over two years.

Tabling was really overwhelming the first time I did it too, but I mooched off of a friend's table so at least I didn't have to worry about getting the table. It's really helpful if you have a friend who's willing to share their knowledge with you, but if you don't, you kind of have to learn how to table the hard way... I also have a bunch of friends who started tabling around the same time, so we all helped each other by sharing resources, tips, and manufacturers. I strongly recommend getting a buddy! Especially if you ever plan to travel to a convention to table, having a friend go with you takes off so much stress.

When you're first applying, I would suggest finding a convention or free-admission art market close to you (doesn't matter the size of the convention/market), or a big con where you're almost guaranteed to make your money back like AX, ANYC, or Fanime (though it's gonna be tough to get into these because of all the competition). Don't worry about tracking the apps for every single con, just pick a few deadlines to track. I think for your first con it's best to cut down on travel/lodging costs as much as possible because you never know how much you'll make back.

As for making merch, I wouldn't worry about making so much all at once. Well, maybe you have to produce a lot for your first con. But after that I just try to add at least one new thing for each con, even if it's just a sticker, so I slowly build up a catalogue that way. For my first con, I just printed zine pieces and illustrations that I already had, and the only new thing I drew was buttons.
