Hey folks!
It has been a while! Well, we wanted to announce some big things coming your way!
WWC Askbox: Soft Re-Opening
Wednesday, Nov 1, 2023 to Thursday, Nov 30, 2023
In light of the recent attention WWC has received by the writeblr community, and the reception to our Guide to Academic Research—the mods have decided that we will temporarily reopen to your questions and test some important changes to the site! As you may have noticed, we've taken a much-needed break to catch up on our personal lives and restore our inspiration to answer the hundreds of Q&A that we receive.
Once the submission window is up on Nov 30, we will evaluate how our new system is going, tinker some more, and reopen once again once the construction dust clears.
New Rules and FAQ!
We are pleased to announce our new and improved Masterpost, which we hope will be a more centralized, more informative resource for those new and returning to WWC.
Brand-new FAQs, with new answers and content for further reading
Code of Conduct and other etiquette rules
The Ask Tutorial—a guide to writing a good ask that we’ll answer!
Moving forward, all followers are required to go through the masterpost to submit a question so they are aware of the new rules, terms & conditions.
Read the masterpost here and ask your question!
New Process
We're piloting out our own personal askbox via Google Forms. This will help us streamline the process and keep track of everyone’s questions.
We are also introducing the Deletion Log, a public, anonymous ledger that lets you know if your question (identified by a number code) has been deleted due to a rule violation, and what you can do to resubmit. Check out the Deletion Log here.
Want to submit an ask?
The below are topics of asks that we will get to right away, based on the mods who are currently active.
Black
Chinese
Colonialism
Iranian/Persian
Japanese (INCLUDING: Anime fanfic questions! Only Mod Rina will be answering anime questions, and only if she feels that the ask would make for an educational post.)
Jewish
Mixed race
South Asian: Hindu, Indian, Punjabi, Sikh (please remember that when asking about South Asia you must indicate region & time period)
Taiwanese
Writing/Publishing industry
Coming Soon: Writingwithcolor.org
We've made tremendous progress on writingwithcolor.org and are almost ready to show off the more permanent residence of WritingWithColor! However, it'll take a lot of time to fully transfer posts and links. To get the new look and all its benefits to you faster, we plan for a soft launch of the content. This will include back and forth linking between WritingWithColor.org and our home on Tumblr. We'll try to keep things seamless and your viewing experience on Tumblr shouldn't be too interrupted. Launch date is coming soon!
New Mod Applications
We still have some applications from our last call of mods and folks to respond to. So if you haven’t heard back, sorry for the delay, but no worries—we will get back to you as we start shaking the dust off our bones and getting back into Q&A. Once we are ready to invite more mods again, we'll continue our outreach.
A Special Thanks To You All
We want to thank you for your continued support, whether it’s been viewership, spreading the word about us, or sending us a tip that supports our domain and future projects for you all. The whole team really appreciates it. We will keep bringing you our best advice and guides on all things good writing with inclusivity.
Be well and keep writing!

Late night… early bedtime.
Hi everyone.
I’m actually asleep right now and hopefully have been for a few hours.
If there are any late night submissions I’ll add them to the site sometime tomorrow. But I’ve got to get up pretty early in the morning these days and I need my sleep.
I wanted to say a few things before I go.
Firstly thank you to everyone who submitted this year. I really appreciate all the interest in our little Jenny and I’m so happy that she’s still out there getting in scraps.
In other news, I was asked to pass along that the Jenny wiki has officially moved to its new home.
I can tell you that the people behind the scenes on this site are really doing what they can to bring everyone the best Jenny Everywhere wiki possible.
Also a previously lost bit of Jenny has been restored and is ready for viewing. Many years ago Jim Street did a couple Jenny comics that were teased during this very event.
Well the completed comics can be downloaded here
Also also Aristide Twain is doing a special in-character Q&A for his webcomic Jenny and the Multiverse. Give that a look and ask a question.
Again, thank you to everyone who submitted. You are literally what makes this event possible and I couldn’t keep it going without you.

How to get image URLs
Hi all, your friendly mod Kate here! Every once in a while we get people who don't know how best to send images with their submissions, so hopefully this guide helps you out. It covers getting the url using a mouse, and has examples of what to avoid and why.
Since Google Forms don't allow anonymous image uploads, the image must already be on the web with a url that anyone can access. If you are using a search engine, be sure to go to the site your image is from before you do the next steps. If you do this just from a search results page, the url won't be quite right!
Getting the URL
The best way to get the url is to view it on web so you can right click on the image. From the menu, choose "Copy image address".
[ID: Screenshot from a wikipedia page of Metron with the right click menu open and an arrow pointing to "Copy image address". /END]
--
Alternatively you can choose "Open image in new tab", then copy the url from the browser's search bar.
[ID: The same screenshot as above, but with the arrow pointing to "Open image in new tab". /END]
[ID: Cropped screenshot of the image opened in a new tab with an arrow pointing to the browser's url bar. /END]
--
Things to Avoid
When we get unusable image urls, there are three main reasons:
The image is not publicly accessible.
The url is not for an image.
The image is no longer available.
Examples of Issue #1
Images from Google Drive that don't have link sharing on
Images that you have to sign in to see
Examples of Issue #2
This link is to a Google search results page. I can't tell which image someone intended to use.
https://www.google.com/search?q=metron+dc+comics&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS911US911&oq=metron+&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqDggAEEUYJxg7GIAEGIoFMg4IABBFGCcYOxiABBiKBTIGCAEQRRg7Mg4IAhBFGCcYOxiABBiKBTIGCAMQRRg8MgYIBBBFGEEyBggFEEUYPDIGCAYQRRhBMgYIBxBFGEGoAgCwAgE&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
[ID: Screenshot of a Google search results page for query "metron dc comics". /END]
This link is to the Google Image search results page. Once again, I don't know which one to use.
https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=986cfd32cb66a37f&sca_upv=1&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS911US911&sxsrf=ADLYWIIdCEk3PzdCJUoz7Ymo7teGL9YUIQ:1717103084714&q=metron+dc+comics&tbm=isch&source=lnms&prmd=isnvmbt&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwjbwaC7o7aGAxUw4MkDHVzeB2YQ0pQJegQIEhAB&biw=1020&bih=1293&dpr=1.5
[ID: Screenshot of a Google Image search results page for query "metron dc comics". /END]
This link appears to be from a different search engine called Startpage, where a wiki image had been selected. This is a case where right clicking and choosing "Copy image link" or "Open image in new tab" is not going to work. It is better to go to the page where the image is actually from, and then getting the image url from there. Interestingly, you can see that part of the link contains something that looks similar to this https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/a/a5/Dawnallen.jpg, which is a real image url, but it took me quite a while to figure that out, and I'm not going to be able to do that every time.
https://www.startpage.com/av/proxy-image?piurl=https%3A%2F%2Fvignette.wikia.nocookie.net%2Fmarvel_dc%2Fimages%2Fa%2Fa5%2FDawnallen.jpg%2Frevision%2Flatest%2Fscale-to-width-down%2F292%3Fcb%3D20141119200128&sp=1716665195T3f28a643c60d90c333200b2b00010330c9bd2d886952cfba77583da3e859b911
[ID: Screenshot of the browser showing a Startpage search bar that has a red alert message at the top that says, "We're sorry, the page yuo requested is not found. The URL may be misspelled or the page you're looking for is no longer-" the rest is cut off. /END]
--
Examples of Issue #3
This link was valid at the time it was submitted, but Discord links are temporary, so now the image is gone.
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/927416037027221524/1154255413148143766/Batman_1940_Issue_148_-_Read_Batman_1940_Issue_148_comic_online_in_high_quality2.jpg?ex=6583ae9f&is=6571399f&hm=6faed65d8bb4b81826980470b397632d2ee00f7b6cffcc4320767bdaf7863cd4&
[ID: Screenshot of the browser with a white page that says "This content is no longer available." /END]
This link from Facebook has expired. The image probably still exists, but Facebook uses a CDN that makes temporary urls for content. These expire quickly.
https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/118003141_10157715190051242_806076112121497002_n.jpg?_nc_cat=102&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=7f8c78&_nc_ohc=aGCMuhwSkFQAX-qpqh1&_nc_ht=scontent-sea1-1.xx&oh=00_AfCWUrtuC3X0qmogIEQMzOb5xdKOp9hwpxJjj4f3v5WQJA&oe=65CA7A60

Blog Introduction!
For those who look for DNIs, we don't bring syscourse to our blog, so any system as long as you are respectful can follow and interact but this is a link to a basic DNI that needs to be followed.
Welcome to simplyaskfellowplural or Safp? Not sure! Call us whatever you'd like!
This blog is run by a TraumaEndo Collective (our main system blog is @selfcarecollective). We came up with the idea to create a blog mainly inspired by wanting to help systems and fellow singlets out with mainly Simply Plural, but broadened our viewpoint to help with plural resources, apps that can be used in a plural way, and answering questions & advice from fellow systems and singlets and anyone in between! Read more below
We often research thoroughly the best we can, using Reddit, Tumblr, Discord, Pluralpedia, and so many other sites that are all origin safe. And give our own advice based off of what we gather from other sources and experiences, and if we can't give an answer directly, we'll often direct to sources that can help out in some way! We also within every guide or question or ask that uses pictures or a gif, automatically have alt text included describing the action or the visual.
General Status:
Requests for Questions/Asks: Open indefinitely - Send an ask if you would like to have advice given! Please be patient!
Requests for Guides: Open indefinitely - Send an ask requesting a guide to be made! Please be patient!
Submissions for Helpers: Open indefinitely - Send an ask linking to a question/advice post or send in random advice for other systems & singlets! Please also put in your ask Helpers Ask. Please be patient!
Map of our Blog~
This will include links to our Guides, Questions/Advice asks, and such! Along with a minor guide on our tags. A new thing we'll be allowing is for others to send in advice either independently (just advice for other systems and singlets) or dependently on a pre-existing question/ask answered. We'll call these Helpers for now, at least within the title of the type of post.
Guides: V1 /
Guides use the tags "Guides", "(platform)guide", "HT(platform)"
Questions/Advice: V1 /
Questions/Advice use the tags "Question Ask"/"Advice Ask", followed by the related topics of what the question or advice is for, then a tag signifying who in our collective answered it (primarily only emojis are used), then "Q&A".
Helpers: V1 /
Helpers posts use the tags "Helpers", followed by the related topics the helper is giving advice about, then a tag signifying who in our collective answered it (primarily only emojis are used).
For reposts/reblogs we tag them with "repost", "plurality", if it's something relatable we will tag "that's a mood tag", or anything related, then same as Q&A, we will use a tag signifying who made the repost.
We will often schedule things to be posted days ahead so we can handle taking short breaks and not being burnt out. So if you see certain posts being made every day or so, they are scheduled as we found them and wanted to show it on our blog.

Building a Community Around Your Website
Whether you’re a small business owner, a content creator, or a marketing professional, you know the importance of having a loyal audience. But how do you transform visitors into repeat users who actively participate in your website? The key is building a thriving online community. A strong community increases engagement, drives user retention, and adds significant long-term value to your brand.
This blog post will explore practical strategies for fostering community engagement, using user-generated content, and building an online community that supports your growth.
Why Building a Community is Essential
Having just visitors is no longer enough; you need an engaged audience that interacts with your content and finds value in the connections they build through your platform. Here’s why:
Boosts Engagement: Communities encourage users to participate through comments, discussions, and interactions, keeping them on your site longer.
Fosters Loyalty: When users feel like they belong to a community, they’re more likely to return and recommend your site to others.
Generates Fresh Content: Vibrant communities often create user-generated content, which helps your site stay fresh and rank higher in search engines.
Adds Credibility: Seeing an active community builds trust and attracts new people to your website.
Now that we understand the "why," let's talk about the "how."
How to Build a Community Around Your Website
1. Define Your Niche and Purpose
Before you start building your community, you need to clarify who your target audience is and what they need. Are you hosting discussions for small business owners? Providing support for customers? Sharing inspiration for creators?
Here’s how to target your niche effectively:
Identify Their Pain Points: What problems does your audience face? What topics can spark meaningful conversations?
Set Clear Objectives: Decide what your community aims to achieve—be it networking, collaboration, or education.
Create Value: Offer meaningful solutions and unique insights that encourage users to join your community instead of seeking alternatives.
By having a well-defined purpose, your website will naturally attract the right people who resonate with your vision.
2. Encourage Community Engagement at Every Step
Building community engagement requires consistency and creativity. Here are actionable strategies to get started:
Interactive Content: Incorporate polls, quizzes, and surveys to encourage participation.
Respond to Comments: Show your users their opinions matter by replying to their comments or questions promptly.
Host Events: Host webinars, Q&A sessions, or live chats where viewers can interact directly with you or your team.
Gamification: Add leaderboards, badges, and rewards for active contributors—this helps build motivation and excitement.
The key is to make user experiences fun, inclusive, and worth returning to.
3. Leverage User-Generated Content
User-generated content (UGC) is a gold mine for building your community. Not only does it showcase your audience’s creativity and enthusiasm, but it also provides fresh and authentic material for your site.
Here’s how to tap into the power of UGC:
Encourage Stories: Ask users to share success stories related to your product or service. For example, an online store could invite customers to submit “before and after” photos using their products.
Feature Testimonials and Reviews: Highlight testimonials or reviews that users leave for you. This creates trust and makes users feel valued.
Hashtags Campaigns: Create social media hashtags to encourage users to share content linked to your website. Curate and showcase the best submissions.
UGC is a two-fold win—you get free, organic content while making users feel like an essential part of the larger conversation.
4. Build a User-Friendly Online Platform
A cohesive user experience is essential for building an online community. If users find navigation complicated, they’re less likely to stick around. Focus on these features when designing your site:
Simplify Navigation: Your site should enable users to locate forums, blogs, or Q&As easily.
Add Community Spaces: Create dedicated spaces like forums, discussion boards, or comment sections where users can express themselves openly.
Mobile Optimization: Make sure your website and community features work seamlessly on mobile devices since most users browse through their phones.
Invite Personalization: Allow users to customize their profiles or notification settings.
By focusing on the user experience, you’re creating a safe and rewarding environment to facilitate meaningful interactions.
5. Share the Values of Your Brand
What’s the “human story” behind your website? Sharing your brand’s mission and values can create a deeper bond between you and your community members. Follow these tips:
Be Authentic: Share behind-the-scenes content about your story, team, or business values.
Promote Transparency: Be open about updates, successes, and areas where improvement is happening.
Support Causes: If your brand champions specific causes (like sustainability or inclusivity), highlight how your users help make an impact.
Users who believe in the same ideals as your brand stay loyal and invested.
Tips for Sustaining Your Online Community
Building a community is one thing—keeping it alive and thriving is another.
Consistency is Key: Regularly post fresh content, moderate discussions, and host interactive events to maintain interest.
Gather Feedback: Periodically ask users what changes they’d like to see and adjust accordingly.
Celebrate Milestones: Acknowledge user contributions or celebrate community milestones to keep morale high.
When you nurture your community, they’ll become loyal advocates for your website, spreading the word and bringing in new members.
Strengthen Your Website’s Community Today
Building a community around your website isn’t just a strategy; it’s a relationship. By focusing on engagement, leveraging user-generated content, and aligning your efforts with user values, you can transform an ordinary site into a lively hub where people connect, collaborate, and grow.
If you’re ready to amplify your user experience, start applying these strategies today. Want more insights? Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead!

TheJackSmit.com at the 2024 Lytham International Film Festival
August Bank Holiday meant only one thing - the mother of all storms - but also the second edition of a film festival that's making waves in the North and far beyond. LYIFF returned to the Lowther Pavilion, with 105 submissions from across the globe, 15 world premieres, 3 'foot in the door' workshops for aspiring filmmakers, and plenty of opportunities to meet the talent behind the films in competition. As usual, here at TheJackSmit.com we're quite proud of the North, so it is always a joy to be able to cover the event, and actually talk to the movers and shakers in this industry.
HERE'S SOMETHING WE MADE EARLIER: LYIFF becomes the first festival to feature on The Journal
youtube
Usually we'd have a huge written piece on all of the highlights when it comes to the shorts - but we doubled our coverage to see 35 of the 105 selections across features, shorts and music videos in the 2024 festival. So, naturally... we went all out and added The Journal to the mix. Seeing as we made the episode before knowledge of the award winners came through to Smit HQ - we had to wait to be able to name them. So without any further delay, here are this year's winners, all films you should 100% have a read up about.
THE LYIFF AWARDS 2024
BEST FEATURE: The Way to Happiness (dir: Nicolas Steil)
BEST SHORT: Good Boy (dir: Tom Stuart)
BEST REGIONAL FILM (sponsored by Chris Allen Mazda): Autonomous Winter Shelter (dir: Dean Cooper)
BEST ACTOR: Tillman Eckardt (Once and For Real)
BEST ACTRESS: Daria Panchenko (A Day in February)
BEST DIRECTOR: Parker Croft (As Easy As Closing Your Eyes)
BEST SCREENPLAY: Baby On Board (Stephen Volk)
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: The Last Embrace (Paul Meyers, dir: Diego Contreras)
BEST EDITING: [Insert Short Film Title] (dir: Kory Orban)
BEST VFX: Wild Summon (Saul Freed, dir: Karni Arieli & Saul Freed)
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE - Judged by John Parr (best known for St Elmo's Fire [Man in Motion], and LYIFF 23 winning short Unconquered): The First Time I Never Met You (Joseph Alexander, dir: Eric Kole)
BEST MUSIC VIDEO - Judged by John Parr: You Feel It Too (Moxy the Band)
LYIFF CREATIVITY AWARD: Sound 7406 (dir: Goran Sporcic)
BEST COMEDY: The Snip (dir: Ben S. Hyland)
BEST AFTER DARK (Horror/Thriller): Rain, Rain, Go Away (dir: Sebastiano Pupino)
BEST EXPERIMENTAL: Ava (dir: Stella Brajterman)
BEST ANIMATION: Nerd (dir: Gus Menese)
BEST FACTUAL: Beyond the Beach: The Hell and the Hope (dir: Graeme Scott & Buddy Squires)
BEST DRAMA: In 100 Years (dir: Hektor Hornsleth)
BEST FIRST TIME DIRECTOR: Kathryn Georghiou (Changing Tides)
LYIFF RISING STAR: Csnad Noll (dir: The Files - aged just 15 and showcasing his debut short at the Festival, judges have identified him as a talent to watch in the future)
During our day on site, I got to chat with Kathryn Georghiou (director of Changing Tides), Johnny Herbin (director of Cakes!), Rosie Fox (writer/composer/star of Bonny Chip) and Goran Sporcic (director of Sound 7406) at the various Q&As and between screenings, and this is what makes LYIFF unique- as one minute you can literally be sat with the filmmakers, talking shop about the business, before seeing their work on the big screen. It's a proper family vibe, and I know a lot of the people who attended the festival can attest to that.
WORKSHOPS FOR THE FUTURE
New for this edition was the LYIFF Foot in the Door programme, a way for the filmmakers of the future to learn from those involved in the festival's selections. On the Friday, festival director (and also the director of The Renata Road) Ed Greenberg lead a workshop on exactly what it takes to produce a quality short film, on any budget, that will do well on the festival circuit - including all the ways to get funding, in a 45 minute workshop that ended up going an hour because there was so much valuable information on offer. On the Saturday, the aspiring screenwriters got to talk to filmmaker and author Andrew David Barker about writing for the short form, ahead of a screening of his short film Baby on Board later that evening. Then on the Sunday morning, Richard Albiston gave the workshop most filmmakers want to hear: the inside line on getting your film seen and distributed. Richard knows his onions about all this, as owner of The Cannon Film Company (as well as being the protege of the late Menahem Golan), he has an eye for identifying promising low budget films that will do big things internationally, as well as being a filmmaker in his own right.
2025 AND BEYOND: Northern Film Matters
Artists impression of the Lowther Pavilion's new Education Centre and Studio, due to open April 2025
Speaking to the team at the festival, as well as staff at the Lowther Pavilion, the next two years for LYIFF are going to see some serious evolution - all being well, next April the Pavilion will open their Education Centre and Studio, providing a second indoor venue to supplement the main 450 seater screen and The Tent, as it has become known. There is a serious passion amongst everyone involved in putting it on to take this as big, and as far-reaching as it can, just like the music festival held on Lytham's promenade every July has done since 2015.
All of these chats have prompted us here at TheJackSmit.com to start developing a very special little strand, which we'll reveal more about once submissions open for next year's festival - that hashtag in the Journal is a small hint as to what it's called...
Submissions for LYIFF 2025 open on FilmFreeway.com/LYIFF on September 1st.

"Unlock Indie Filmmaking Success at Top Festivals"
Leveraging Film Festivals for Indie Filmmaker Success
Film festivals provide a critical stage for independent filmmakers to present their creative projects and gain vital recognition. By connecting with industry experts, audiences, and fellow filmmakers, indie films can significantly raise their profiles. Festivals such as Sundance, South by Southwest (SXSW), and Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) are top choices for indie filmmakers to explore.
To effectively utilize film festivals, a detailed festival strategy is essential. This includes selecting the right festivals, preparing your film submission, and taking full advantage of every participation opportunity.
Festival Strategies
Adopting a strategic approach is key to reaping the rewards of film festivals. Here’s how to successfully navigate festival participation:
Choosing which festivals to submit to requires careful evaluation of several important factors. These include the festival’s reputation, the demographics of its audience, and the types of films it usually programs. It's equally important to research the festival’s deadlines, entry fees, and submission guidelines to ensure your film aligns with all requirements.
Before submitting, make sure your film is in its best possible condition. This involves creating a professional poster, an engaging trailer, and a concise synopsis. Additionally, hiring a festival consultant can be advantageous, as they can offer expert advice during the submission process and improve your chances of acceptance.
Once accepted, make the most of the opportunity by promoting your screenings, actively networking with industry professionals, and engaging with the audience. Use social media and email lists to increase your film's visibility and generate excitement about your screenings.
Khoa Le's Festival Insights
Khoa Le, the director of Walt Before Mickey, successfully used film festivals to boost the film's profile. His strategies included selecting festivals that matched the film's target audience, preparing the film for submission with a professional poster, trailer, and synopsis, engaging with the audience through Q&A sessions and networking opportunities, and securing distribution deals through festival exposure.
Marketing Your Indie Film
Marketing your indie film effectively is crucial to its success. Establishing a strong online presence, utilizing social media, and building an email list are essential components of a successful marketing campaign.
A strong online presence begins with a professional website that showcases your film. Utilize SEO best practices to ensure your site is easily found. Include engaging content such as blogs, behind-the-scenes footage, and updates on your film's progress.
Utilize platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn to reach a larger audience. Engage with your followers by posting regular updates, responding to comments, and interacting with industry influencers. Social media contests and Q&A sessions can also boost engagement and visibility.
Building an email list is a highly effective way to maintain direct communication with your audience. Use newsletters to keep your audience informed about your film's developments, upcoming screenings, and exclusive content. Platforms like Mailchimp offer tools to manage and grow your email list efficiently.
By implementing these strategies and maintaining active participation in film festivals, indie filmmakers can significantly increase their chances of success. Effectively leveraging film festivals can open doors to new opportunities, distribution deals, and a thriving network of industry contacts.
Employing a comprehensive approach that includes festival strategy, marketing, and networking will ensure that your indie film garners the attention it deserves. Adapt these tips and insights to your unique circumstances and watch your film reach new heights.

How to Develop a Top-Tier Social Media Plan that Boosts Brand Visibility and Delivers High ROI
Businesses looking to increase brand awareness and achieve a high return on investment (ROI) need an effective social media strategy in today's digital era. In addition to connecting with your audience, social media can help you promote your brand and grow your business. You will be guided by this comprehensive guide as you develop your brand's social media strategy.
1. Define Clear Goals
Setting clear, measurable goals is the first step in creating an effective social media strategy. These goals should align with the overall goals of your business. A typical social media goal includes:
- A brand's awareness is measured using metrics like reach, impressions, and followers.
- The number of new email subscribers and form submissions are used to measure lead generation.
- Engagement is measured by likes, comments, shares, and direct messages.
- Traffic driving: Based on referral traffic, page views, and session duration.
Setting SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) ensures you have a clear roadmap and can track your progress effectively.
2. Understand Your Audience
Crafting content that resonates requires an understanding of your audience. Detailed buyer personas should be developed based on thorough research, which should include the following:
- Age, gender, location, income, education, and other demographics.
- The psychographics of a person include their interests, values, lifestyle, and personality traits.
- Insights into online behavior, buying habits, and engagement patterns .
Tools like Google Analytics, social media insights, and customer surveys can provide valuable data to help you understand your audience better.
3. Choose the Right Platforms
It is important to understand that not all social media platforms are the same, and they cater to different demographics and content types. Your audience is most likely to be found on the following platforms:
-Social media sites like Facebook are great for building a sense of community and promoting your business.
-For visually appealing content and engagement with younger audiences, Instagram is a great option.
-Customer service and real-time updates can be achieved through Twitter.
-B2B marketing and professional networking are best done on LinkedIn.
-With TikTok, you can reach Gen Z with creative and entertaining content.
4. Create Engaging Content
Content is the heart of your social media strategy. Your content should be:
-Provide your audience with information, entertainment, or inspiration that is relevant and valuable to them.
-Visually Appealing: Videos, images, and graphics of high quality capture the attention of viewers.
-Humanize your brand with behind-the-scenes content, customer stories, and user-generated content.
-Engage your audience through polls, quizzes, contests, and Q&A sessions.
A content calendar can help you plan and organize your posts, ensuring a consistent and strategic approach.
5. Leverage Paid Advertising
Organic reach alone is often insufficient to achieve significant growth. Investing in paid social media advertising can amplify your efforts. Each platform offers robust advertising tools with targeting options that allow you to reach specific audiences based on demographics, interests, behaviors, and more. Some effective paid strategies include:
- Boosted posts: Increase the reach of your organic content.
- Sponsored content: Promote your content to a targeted audience.
- Display ads: Visually appealing ads that can drive traffic and conversions.
- Retargeting ads: Re-engage users who have previously interacted with your brand.
6. Engage with Your Audience
With social media, it's a two-way street. Engaging with your audience will help you build relationships with them and foster brand loyalty. Respond as soon as possible to comments, messages, and mentions. Provide a professional, empathic response to complaints or concerns. Show appreciation for positive comments. Engaging your audience is also an excellent way to learn about their preferences and opinions.
7. Analyze and Adjust
Learn about what is effective and ineffective in the social media space. The relevant performance indicators are:
Engagement rates give an idea of how well your audience relates to what you say.
Reach and impressions measure how far your content is seen.
Ensuring desired results from social media campaigns.
ROI: Gives a financial perspective on your social media investments.
To gather information, employ tools such as Google Analytics, social media insights, and third-party analytics platforms. Consequently, modify strategy based on these findings with a view to continuously improving performance
8. Stay Updated and Adapt
Trends and algorithms on social media are always changing. Keep yourself updated with the latest changes in your strategy. Reading industry blogs, attending webinars and getting involved in relevant communities will keep you abreast of new features, tools, and best practices.
Conclusion
A social media strategy that will be successful can only be achieved by knowing your audience well. Thus, you must know who your audience is and what they want. By clearly defining objectives, selecting the right platforms and creating engaging content, you can enhance brand visibility and achieve a significant ROAS through paid ads. In this case, active interaction with the customers through advertisement becomes essential in order to increase their brand awareness. Brand awareness increases as a result of these interactions and the sales increase leading to returns on investment (ROI). The ever-changing nature of social media necessitates innovation for brands’ best advantage thus one needs to have open-mindedness in using different approaches.

What are the best and cheapest ways to get backlinks?
In the realm of digital marketing, backlinks play a pivotal role in enhancing a website's visibility and authority. A backlink, also known as an inbound link, is a link from one website to another. Search engines like Google consider backlinks as votes of confidence, and websites with a higher number of quality backlinks generally rank higher in search results. For businesses and individuals looking to improve their SEO, finding cost-effective methods to acquire these valuable links is crucial. Here, we explore some of the best and cheapest ways to get backlinks and explain why SEOeShop stands out as a top choice for backlink services.
Best and Cheapest Ways to Get Backlinks
1. Guest Blogging
Guest blogging involves writing articles for other websites in exchange for a backlink to your own site. This method not only helps in acquiring backlinks but also in building relationships with other bloggers and reaching a wider audience. To maximize the benefits:
Identify authoritative blogs in your niche.
Ensure your content is valuable and relevant to the host blog's audience.
Follow the host blog's guidelines for guest posts.
2. Broken Link Building
This technique involves finding broken links on other websites and offering your content as a replacement. Tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush can help identify broken links on relevant sites. Here's how you can do it:
Search for broken links on authoritative sites in your niche.
Create or identify existing content on your site that fits the context of the broken link.
Reach out to the webmaster, pointing out the broken link and suggesting your content as a replacement.
3. Skyscraper Technique
The Skyscraper Technique, popularized by Brian Dean of Backlinko, involves finding high-performing content, creating something even better, and then reaching out to sites that linked to the original piece. Steps to follow:
Find top-performing content using tools like BuzzSumo.
Create a more comprehensive, updated, or visually appealing version.
Reach out to websites that linked to the original content and suggest your superior version.
4. Resource Page Link Building
Resource pages are pages on websites that curate links to valuable resources in a specific niche. To leverage this method:
Search for resource pages related to your industry using search queries like "keyword + resources" or "keyword + inurl".
Ensure your content is a valuable addition to the resource page.
Contact the webmaster and suggest including your link as a helpful resource.
5. Engage in Online Communities
Participating in forums, Q&A sites, and social media groups can also help in gaining backlinks. By providing valuable insights and answers, you can naturally attract backlinks to your content. Popular platforms include:
Reddit
Quora
Niche-specific forums and Facebook groups
6. Create Infographics
Infographics are visually appealing and easily shareable, making them a great tool for earning backlinks. Steps to create effective infographics:

What Is Link Building?
Link building is the process of strategically increasing the number of hyperlinks (or backlinks) pointing to a website. It is an essential aspect of SEO meant to improve a website’s search engine visibility.
Here are some of the most popular link building strategies:
Content marketing
Email outreach
Broken link building
Unlinked brand mentions
PR
(Among others.)
Let’s get into the details. Here’s your beginner’s guide to link building in SEO.
Why Is Link Building Important?
The more high-quality backlinks a page has, the higher it can rank. Backlinks are one of Google’s most important ranking factors.
Google and other major search engines consider backlinks as “votes of confidence” for the website getting the links.
Each vote suggests your content is valuable, credible, and useful.
So, if you want your pages to rank high in the Google search results, you will almost certainly need to do some backlink building.
How To Build Links
Most link building tactics and strategies fall into one of the three following buckets.
1. Ask for Links
Asking for links is when you actively contact a website and ask them to link to yours.
You can ask them to link to:
Blog posts
In-depth guides
Ebooks
Visual assets (like infographics)
Case studies
Original research and data
And so forth.
We’ll get into how to do that later in the “Best Backlink Building Strategies” section.
2. Add Links
Adding links refers to going to another website and manually adding your link there.
For example, you can manually add links to:
Social media profiles
Business directories
Forums, communities, and Q&A sites (like Quora)
Blog comments
User profile pages
And so on.
Note: Manually adding SEO links is one of the easiest and possibly least effective ways to build links.
These types of links often come from low-quality sources. The kind that Google doesn’t want to give too much weight to.
Why?
Because you create them. And you’re practically endorsing yourself.
Which isn’t what Google is looking for when figuring out which websites deserve to rank best.
And since these links aren’t editorially given (links you don’t ask for), they carry less weight than other types of links.
While these links won’t actively help you, they also won’t hurt you.
Your best bet is to earn your links.
3. Earn Links
When you earn links, other websites link to yours without you asking them to.
And the best way to earn links is by creating high-quality content people want to link to.
Links happen naturally when someone wants to link to something as a resource or helpful further reading.
Here are a few different types of content people tend to link to:
Visual assets (infographics, charts, diagrams, etc.)
Original research and data (industry studies, surveys, proprietary research, etc.)
Online tools and calculators
In-depth guides and tutorials
And others.
To find more content ideas, look at your competitors’ backlink profiles.
(Again, we’ll get into the step-by-step of how to do all of this in the “Best Backlink Building Strategies” section.)

Your GA4 Migration: 10 Things You DON’T Want to Miss
Universal Analytics is officially done collecting data. Cue one single tear running down every marketers’ cheek.
Now all of your site data will flow solely through Google Analytics 4.
Are you sure you’re ready for that? The only reason I ask is because, well, GA4 is a bit of a beast with tons of hidden settings that need to be addressed for optimal data collection.
In the admin section of GA4 you will see two columns: Account and Property. The Property column is where the majority of important setting options are hiding.
1. Timezone
Your property timezone can be set under the Property Settings section of the Property column. (Yes, this is very meta.)
This one may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s an easy one to overlook.
When you created your GA4 property, you had the option to set your timezone. If you’re anything like me, you probably just hit the “next” button.
But not so fast! You need to double check this setting.
We already know that different platforms track differently so we aren’t tracking apples to oranges, but if we aren’t even using the same time zones for reporting, well we may as well be tracking apples to cucumbers.
The TL;DR: Using the same timezone everywhere allows you to compare data a bit more easily.
2. Currency
Turns out, there is more than one thing to touch in that Property Settings section in column two.
In the same place you set up your timezone, you have the option to change your currency.
By default Google sets the currency to USD for all reporting.
Note: If you’re doing business with multiple currencies, Google will do the conversions on the backend to continue to report in USD.
3. Enhanced measurement
Enhanced measurement is perhaps one of the biggest changes with Google Analytics 4.
If you’re not sure what enhanced measurement is, it’s essentially pre-built event tracking. Which is actually great, except when it tracks things incorrectly.
You can view all of the automatically collected events in the Data Streams section once you click on your desired data stream.
Now don’t worry, most of these events and parameters will be tracked just fine, but there are a few instances that may require additional debugging.
This most pertinent issue for users revolves around form interactions, especially for those who have the Meta pixel on their site. False form interactions tend to be triggered by Facebook pixels because Facebook uses a “form submission” to pass data from your site to theirs.
I highly suggest using the GA4 debug tool or by looking at your real time analytics to double check that the “form_destination” is correct.
Another major pain point in enhanced measurement is that it relies on site searches passing one of the following parameters into the url: q, s, search, query, keyword. Should you use a different parameter, it can be defined in this enhanced measurement section by clicking the gear icon next to the events.
4. Events
The Events section is a great place for a tracking gut check.
This is basically just a massive list of all of the events being tracked and how often they are being fired. If you don’t see your events here or the numbers seem low, you may need to go check your setup.
Also, new in GA4, you can create and modify your events directly in the platform.
If you were a destination goal type person in Universal Analytics, this is the section that allows you to create events based on page location.
Tons of other changes can be made using the modify event tool like reconciling event names, creating sub events from collected events, etc.
5. Conversions
Much like the Events section, this Conversion section is the best place to do a quick gut check and make sure the most important things are being tracked on your site.
If you don’t see one of your conversions on this screen, you will need to head back to the Events sections and click the toggle to the right of the event name.
(Yeah, it really is that easy to create conversions in GA4. Thank goodness.)
If you do see your conversions, but the numbers look odd, you may want to click the three dots to the right of the conversion to see the counting method.
By default, Google counts conversions for each event completion. However, you may only want to count conversions once per session. If that is the case, click on those three dots and change the counting method to “Once per session.”
6. Define domains
For all of my friends out there using different domains for their stores, their courses, their main site, and/or their blog - your time has come.
The good news is, cross-domain tracking in GA4 is much easier than it was in UA. The bad news is that this is only true if you know where to find the setup widget.
To define all of your domains, navigate to Data streams > select data stream > Configure tag settings > Configure your domains.
Taking this step is especially important in GA4 because outbound clicks are tracked using Enhanced Measurement. Thus, not defining all of your domains can lead to false “click” counts.
7. Internal traffic
Ah, now this is a question I’ve been asked over a dozen times. Yes, you can filter out internal traffic.
To filter internal traffic by IP address, you will need to go to Data streams > select data stream > Configure tag settings > Show all > Define internal traffic.
Unfortunately, in the GA4 platform, this is currently the only way to define internal traffic.
8. Unwanted referrals
E-commerce folks, this one's for you.
If you’re using a third-party payment processor like Stripe or Paypal, this is a big one.
Unless you want all of your purchases to be attributed to your payment processors, you have to specify to Google that there are unwanted referrers.
If you’re not sure if you have sites you need to mark as unwanted referrals, check your Traffic Acquisition report and change the primary dimension to Session Source/Medium.
9. Custom dimensions
If you’re anything like me, and send 80% of your events using Google Tag Manager, you’re going to want to listen up!
Most of the time, people use GTM to send extra data with their events in the form of event or user parameters. GA4 does collect and process these parameters, but it DOES NOT retain this data unless you’ve defined the dimensions.
So if you want to be able to see your parameters, you need to create a custom dimension for each one. It’s pretty easy, you just name the dimension and select the coordinating parameter.
10. Data retention
Lastly, and maybe most importantly, you are going to want to extend your data retention window.
This is perhaps one of the most important but most overlooked settings.
In the property column, you’ll navigate to Data settings > Data retention. Once you’re here you will find that by default GA4 properties are only set to retain event data for 2 months.
That’s just 60 days. That’s not even a whole season of Big Brother.
The good news is that you can change this from 2 months to 14 months with three clicks of a button.
A quick note: Any changes made under this Data settings section should be discussed with a privacy expert or lawyer. Many of these changes have the possibility to affect your compliance status with GDPR and other privacy legislation.
You’ve got this!
It seems like a lot. And it is. But you’ve got this.
GA4 is a monster, but if you’re here, you’re already tackling it. Way to go!
Now, go triple check all of those properties you created a year or two ago… We’re gonna do the same.

Ooh, I’d also like to weigh in with tips / hot takes / etc. from the perspective of a poet/editor. This might be less beginner-level and kind of gets into the weeds, but I hope it’s still helpful!
6. Duotrope is also a cool little tool that integrates a submission tracker with submission search engine. Plus, you tracking your stats helps add to the profile of the publication, so others can see when to expect a response themselves. Chillsubs is also a great listing site.
7. If writing consistently is hard, try to find or create a regular generative workshop group with other writers. For a long time I attended (and hope to return to) a weekly workshop, and I wrote more than ever before over those years. Some folks write best in community, others alone - figure out what works best for you.
8. The job of literary magazines and publications is to get your work in front of audiences you wouldn’t typically reach. However, you can still reach just as many, if not more, people by sharing your work on social media. Especially if you share work that’s timely and is responding to current events. Here’s where it gets dicey though:
8a. Some magazines and publications consider work “already published” if it’s shared on social media. So, consider when you share work on your own social media pages. I usually share poems on social media after they’ve been picked up by a publication, and then shoutout the litmag in the post as well.
8b. That said, sometimes you can reach a place where your social media shows more people your work than most litmags can. Sometimes sharing wildly, with abandon, isn’t a bad thing. One example is that last year I shared my poem “trans day of i love you” and it went viral. I wasn’t very intentional about sharing it. I wrote it after finding out someone I knew had been shot at Club Q. I wrote it while sobbing in my notes app, screenshotted it, shared it, mostly out of a place of making my pain external. But I am glad it spoke to people in that really terrible moment, and I’m glad I didn’t wait to share it, even if it brought both good and bad attention my way. It allowed me to reach more people and speak to the pain we were all feeling, so I’m glad I didn’t wait to share it. So, play it be ear.
9. Read submission guidelines carefully and follow them! Litmags that get a lot of submissions will reject things automatically if guidelines aren’t followed.
10. Make a website to aggregate everywhere you’ve been published. Here’s mine as an example. What’s nice about this is that even if a magazine’s website goes down, you can still have record of the publication somewhere. Also, so you have a space to be if your social media ever gets shadowbanned / deleted / etc. It’s important to have a corner of the web to call your own.
11. On the topic of manuscripts, I only recently learned that some book publishers take a poet’s social media following into account, to see whether they have an audience to promote to. So, it’s worth cultivating your own following, even though social media mostly sucks. Find the least soul sucking social media, and try to make it work for you.
Anyway, all of this is maybe a bit in the weeds, but it helped me come up with a workflow that works for me, which is:
Write poem --> Edit poem --> Submit poem places --> Wait to hear back --> If published, share poem on social media and website --> Repeat
5 tips for new poets!
(from a 19 year old who’s been published over 30 times)
1. write as often as you can. it doesn’t matter if it’s good, you can always edit it later.
2. submit as often as you can. prestige of a magazine doesn’t matter. you need eyes on your work.
3. don’t get discouraged by rejections.
4. read your work. over and over and over again.
5. keep track of your submissions in a spreadsheet! this will help you stay on top.
i hope these help!
