RV Rental Safety 101: Must-Know Tips for a Secure Camping Experience
Embarking on an RV adventure is an exciting way to explore new places while enjoying the comfort of home on the road. However, ensuring your safety while renting and traveling in an RV requires careful planning and preparation. Whether you're heading to a scenic RV park near Dallas, TX, or exploring further afield, these essential safety tips will help you make the most of your journey while keeping you secure.
Tumblr media
1. Choose a Reputable RV Rental Company
Your RV safety journey begins with selecting a reliable rental company. Research different providers, read reviews, and ensure they have a solid reputation for maintaining their fleet. A well-maintained RV is crucial for avoiding potential breakdowns and ensuring your safety on the road.
Key Tips:
Verify the rental company’s safety record.
Check for insurance coverage and what it includes.
Ask about the RV’s maintenance history and recent inspections.
2. Inspect the RV Thoroughly Before Departure
Before you hit the road, conduct a comprehensive inspection of the RV. This step ensures that everything is in working order and can help you identify any potential issues before they become problems.
Checklist:
Exterior: Examine the tires, lights, and propane tanks. Look for any visible damage or signs of wear.
Interior: Test all appliances, including the stove, refrigerator, and HVAC system. Check for leaks under sinks and around the toilet.
Safety Equipment: Ensure the RV is equipped with a fire extinguisher, smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, and first aid kit.
3. Familiarize Yourself with RV Operation
Understanding how to operate your RV safely is vital. Spend time learning about the vehicle's features, including the electrical and water systems, before setting off.
Key Areas to Learn:
Driving: Get comfortable with the RV’s size and handling. Practice parking and maneuvering in a safe area.
Hookups: Learn how to connect and disconnect utilities like water, electricity, and sewer.
Emergency Procedures: Know how to use the emergency exits, fire extinguisher, and first aid kit.
4. Plan Your Route and Stay Informed
Before setting out, plan your route carefully. Consider factors like road conditions, RV-friendly routes, and potential hazards. Stay updated on weather conditions and road closures that could affect your trip.
Tips:
Use GPS and RV-specific navigation apps to find the best routes.
Check local road regulations and restrictions for RVs.
Monitor weather forecasts to avoid driving in severe conditions.
5. Practice Safe Driving Habits
Driving an RV requires different skills than operating a regular vehicle. Safe driving practices are essential to ensure a smooth and accident-free journey.
Safe Driving Tips:
Speed Limits: Adhere to posted speed limits and adjust your speed according to road conditions.
Braking: Allow extra time for braking and maintain a safe following distance.
Turning and Lane Changes: Make wide turns and be cautious when changing lanes.
Distractions: Avoid distractions and stay focused on the road.
6. Secure Your RV When Parked
When you arrive at your RV park, take the time to properly secure your vehicle. This step helps prevent accidents and ensures that your RV remains safe during your stay.
Security Measures:
Leveling: Use leveling blocks to ensure the RV is stable and avoid unnecessary stress on the vehicle.
Lock Doors and Windows: Always lock doors and windows when leaving the RV.
Chock the Wheels: Use wheel chocks to prevent the RV from rolling.
7. Follow RV Park Rules and Regulations
Each RV park has its own set of rules and regulations designed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests. Familiarize yourself with these guidelines to avoid potential issues.
Common Rules:
Quiet Hours: Respect designated quiet hours to avoid disturbing other guests.
Pet Policies: Follow park rules regarding pets and ensure they are leashed and well-behaved.
Campfire Safety: Follow fire regulations and ensure campfires are fully extinguished before leaving them unattended.
8. Maintain Regular Communication
If you’re traveling with family or friends, establish a communication plan. Keeping in touch with fellow travelers helps ensure everyone’s safety and allows for quick coordination in case of emergencies.
Communication Tips:
Cell Phones: Keep fully charged phones and consider having a backup power source.
Emergency Contacts: Share your itinerary and emergency contact information with family or friends.
9. Prepare for Emergencies
Even with careful planning, emergencies can occur. Being prepared for unexpected situations is crucial for your safety.
Emergency Preparedness:
First Aid Kit: Keep a well-stocked first aid kit easily accessible.
Emergency Plan: Develop a plan for different types of emergencies, such as medical issues or breakdowns.
Roadside Assistance: Ensure you have access to roadside assistance services if needed.

How to Plan a Roadtrip to Downtown Knoxville?
Visiting downtown Knoxville by road? There are several things to consider when planning your upcoming roadtrip. You should first book hotels in Downtown Knoxville before you proceed with planning the trip. Planning the trip can be challenging if you don’t know how to proceed. We have identified the tips that can help with planning. 1. Plan as soon as you are sure you are going to visit the Downtown in your car. This would help you identify the itinerary, know the exact number of days on the road, and create the checklist for the road. Delaying the planning by even a day will put you in the spot as you need to ensure you don’t get panicked while planning. The planning will involve finding the way to go on a roadtrip, places to book your vehicle, getting the most affordable road transport and other factors. 2. Route planning is equally important when you proceed with planning the road trip. You might want to choose the ideal route where you can spend a lot of time looking around and getting a glimpse of Tennessee. You don’t want to just explore downtown and come back. You might want to see the places that come in between. That’s why once you have booked the best hotel Knoxville Downtown Island Airport, you might want to check if you know which is the ideal route for the hotel. Do you want to take the highway connecting the places or would you like to choose a interstate road that also takes you through other tourist places? 3. You should check, at this point, how many people would be taking the roadtrip to Downtown Knoxville. If you are traveling as a family with kids, you might want to choose a bigger vehicle that can accommodate the kids. You might want an RV that would fit in everyone easily. however, if you are traveling as a couple or going on a solo roadtrip, your choice of vehicle would differ. Make sure to choose the right vehicle for the roadtrip 4. While planning the vehicle for the roadtrip, you might also want to consider the gas required and the budget for the entire trip. You might want to check if there are gas stations along the chosen route and what would be the approximate time till the next fill? While you are checking for gas, you should also check the vehicle for faults and issues. It is a great idea to put it off your checklist and ensure you are ready to go on the road. 5. When traveling by road, you should ensure you have enough apps to help you with the stops, halts, food stops and other requirements. along with booking hotels in Downtown Knoxville, you should also try to find an app for all your needs including music. this planning might come handy when you are traveling to Knoxville and staying at all the possible places along the route. If you are planning to camp with your RV, you might want to locate an app that would find a camp for you. 6. Make sure you have planned for the stops along the route. You need to ensure you have enough time and space for all the stops. Lastly, make sure to book the best hotel Knoxville Downtown Island Airport so that you have a comfortable space waiting for you at the end of the trip.

Upcoming Travel and Why YOU Should use a Travel Agent
Tumblr media
With almost 50 million Americans traveling on July 4 weekend, you may need to pack your patience Swimsuit packed? How about your patience? If you are heading out of town for the July 4 holiday weekend, you will likely need both. More than 47.7 million Americans will be on the nation’s roadways and in the skies during the July 1–5 period, according to the American Automobile Association. That will be very close to pre-pandemic levels, and the second-highest Independence Day travel volume on record. In normal times, holiday travel can be frustrating — but as the nation makes its way out of the pandemic, there is a lot more than usual riding on this weekend. Road trips still rule Despite the shortage of rental cars and the highest gas prices in seven years, AAA expects more than 91 percent of holiday travel will be by car. An expected 43.6 million Americans will drive to their destinations, AAA said. That's the highest on record for this holiday and 5 percent more than the previous record, set in 2019. All those cars means congested highways. “With travelers eager to hit the road this summer, we’re expecting nationwide traffic volumes to increase about 15 percent over normal this holiday weekend,” said Bob Pishue, a transportation analyst with INRIX analytics company. “Drivers around major metro areas must be prepared for significantly more delays.” Drivers should remember that many motor home drivers are still getting used to maneuvering their new RVs. In addition to loading up tunes and travel apps, experts suggest holiday road trippers do a refresh on safe following distances and remember that many motor home drivers are still getting used to maneuvering their new RVs. Advice for air travelers Around 3.5 million people are planning to fly over the July 4 holiday, and air travel volumes are expected to reach 90 percent of pre-pandemic levels. That is an increase of 164 percent compared to last year, AAA said. Anyone waiting until the last minute before booking may want to try budget carriers such as Southwest and Spirit, especially on their new routes, said Adit Damodaran, economist with Hopper travel site. Newcomers Breeze and Avelo, serving secondary airports, may still have good fares as well, Damodaran said. Getting through airports during holiday weekends was frustrating before the pandemic. This year, it could be much worse, due to a temporary shortage of Transportation Security Administration officers, airline staff, and airport shop and restaurant workers. Add to that new airport protocols, the rash of unruly travelers, and passengers who show up at the security checkpoint with everything from oversized liquids to guns and other prohibited items because they’re forgotten how to pack. Travelers should make use of airline apps to check in for their flight and tag their luggage, said Sherry Stein, head of technology strategy at SITA, an air transport technology company. With such high passenger volume, “the challenge will be to keep things moving smoothly," she said. What about buses and trains? AAA expects 620,000 Americans to travel by bus, train, and other modes this holiday weekend, an increase of more than 72 percent since last year. While overall ridership on Amtrak is running at about 55 percent of pre-pandemic levels, it is down just 14 percent for the holiday weekend, compared to 2019, said Doug Duval, an Amtrak spokesman. "This is trending to be the best holiday since the pandemic started.” Bus ridership is on the rise too. During the pandemic, bus lines furloughed and laid off many employees — and drivers are not rushing back, said Jan Jones, program coordinator for the Hospitality and Management program at the University of New Haven. “Staffing is a problem here, too. July 4 travelers may be limited in terms of where they can go by bus," Jones said. Hotels and campsites Lodging reservations are well above the reservation volume for last year, at 163 percent of 2020 bookings, according to a report from TripIt vacation planning service. But late planners might not be totally out of luck. “If you know the hotel or hotel brand you want to stay with, try their mobile apps or websites because they usually offer a best rate guarantee,” said Paul Barron, EVP for marketing and hospitality at Amadeus travel tech company. Loyalty program members booking directly on a hotel website often receive personalized offers not available on other sites, he added. Too daunting? Ditch the drama. Travelers itching to get back to big cities or other popular tourist hotspots to celebrate Independence Day should try smaller towns — or maybe do a pivot and “don't travel at all,” said travel adviser Jessica Scott. “Instead, spend the long weekend penciling out your travel schedule for the future. If there is anything the pandemic taught us, it is not to wait to take that dream trip, or to visit a far-away friend or family member.” Harriet Baskas Harriet Baskas is an NBC News contributor who writes about travel and the arts.

Tarot writeup
What I asked/ about the spread:
Here, I was using the Galaxy Tarot app for android, using the two choice spread. My decision choices that I was weighing were this; should I go into the world with the intent of/asking the universe for a raise in my current position, (option A, the left side of the spread), or if I should try to branch out and find a new job (option b, right side of the spread.)  The top two cards are the advantage of the choices (option a left, option b right) the center cards are the feelings on the choices, and the bottom cards are the disadvantages of the choices
Tumblr media
I thought it was interesting that all of option A came up wands.
According to https://www.biddytarrot.com ; the suit of Wands is generally associated with raw primal energy, strength, ambition, expansion, determination, spirituality, creativity, and intuition. It’s spoken about as a masculine element, but I think it also embodies some aspects of the femme, through it’s connection with spirituality, creativity, and intuition. Some of the negative aspects of wands include ego, lack of purpose, meaninglessness.
The two of wands indicates my feelings, and the card itself deals with plans, progress, and discovery. I feel that by asking for a raise at work, I will be given more responsibility and more expectation, and I will feel more pressure to take on a lead or assistant lead role, which I don’t think I want. I just want to be paid fairly for the work I currently do, a lot of work which does assist leadership without giving me any direct responsibility.
King of wands is the disadvantage - and it represents leadership, and entreprenuership. He can pursue his goals, and enjoys to take on challenges that result in solutions that benefit many. This seems to be really obviously pointing me toward, yeah, you can get the money you need from this workplace, but you’re going to be put in positions where you have to play the power game to get shit done. Is this warehouse labor worth that? The downside of the King of Wands is that he can be arrogant and agressive, especially when doing what they think is best. Be cautious of taking others for granted as you gain this potential power?
The Six of wands is placed in the advantage of option A. It deals with victory, self confidence, recoginition and progress. If I can overcome distractions and focus on my goals when given pieces of power at this place, it will result in positive changes for myself and those around, and I will hopefully be recognized for it. The downside is the potential for celebration to result in an inflating ego, which is something I always need to be on the lookout for anyway.
On the Option B side, we have the Hierophant in the feelings category. It is also known as a teacher, or other authoritive, wise figure. I am having a bit of a hard time interpreting what this could mean, which is funny because its the feelings card it should be the easiest to interpret. I have been feeling weird nudges and suspicons that maybe I would be a good teacher, like, in the literal sense. Being a teacher is a great excuse to constantly be learning. But the state of living for teachers in my country is not great, and signing up for a lifetime of debt, just to make barely more than what I do now 9 months out of the year... its a lot to think about.  Besides, I cannot go back to school until I can get enough money saved up and set aside to get debts paid down and pay for classes.
The Heirophant symbolises a connection to a spiritual community, so perhaps it is a sign that I am on the right path, turning to my growing intuition to influence the universe to tip in my direction, in regards to my carreer and income.  In the disadvantage, four of pentacles represents stability, a solid foundation security, and conservatism. It’s caution could reflect my own hesitancy to look into new work, having been at this place for a year, and being familiar with it. The unknown could come with losing that stability and that foundation.  The advantage card I pulled was The Chariot, of which the duality immediately jumped out to me. I identify greatly with dualities, as a nonbinary bisexual gemini. It also deals with success, willpower, and control, much like the six of wands dealt with victory. There is action to this card, constantly moving and doing. To reap the advantages, this card shows that action is needed, instead of passive waiting and hoping things plop into my path. The chariot calls on me to maintain focus and drive. Biddy tarot says “In a very literal sense, the Chariot can represent travel, especially driving or taking a road trip. You may even be considering selling the home and buying an RV so you can head off and roam the country!“ This is literally my whole goal in life, so. If that’s the advantage to ... leaving my job and trying to find something new that works for me? Thats ... that seems like the right choice to take.
In Conclusion:
By pursuing just a raise at work (Option A - All Wands) I will ultimately have to take on more responsibility. This responisibilty will be great for the other workers around me, and will provide me with the financial means I need, but possibly not the emotional and mental fufillment I am looking for.
Option B, looking for new work, involves my wanting to learn something new (maybe?) or pass on information I have, become a teacher way down the line. (Which seems weird to me bc I dont tend to connect well w/ kids but that’s the Pull I’ve been feeling?) By looking for new work, new modes of income, I am potentially risking the foundation and stability I have gained, but if I can take action and maintain focus (a TALL ORDER for me, focus.) my constant need for moving, change and growth will be met through my new career choice.  I’m just learning to read for myself, and writing this up helps me with practice. I’ve tried saving these on my phone with little notes, but its’ never enough for me to really go back and remember what I Thought about it at the time I pulled the cards. My interpretation may be way off, and I am probs looking for things I want and themes I like in these cards. If you want to offer another interpretation of the spread I pulled, or offer feedback on my interpretation feel free!

Just How To Strategy The First Camper Road Travel
Tumblr media
It would be nice to wake up and be close to the day's hike, paddling or climb? Do you want to end the day with your favorite drink around the campfire instead of making the long trip across the backcountry return home? It's possible to take an RV trip If this is something you'd like to experience.
In an RV, you are able to stay longer and go home with you on the road. But it can seem like an enormous jump from camping on a motorbike and backpacking to an RV road trip. It's actually possible to make it a lot simpler by conducting some research and plan ahead. You can also benefit from the support of a community of RVers who is eager to share their enthusiasm and experiences. Here are a few tips to plan your first trip.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to wake up and be just a few steps away from the day's hike, paddle or climb? You could also finish the day by relaxing by the campfire sipping on your preferred beverage, rather than making the long drive back into the backcountry. If this sounds like a dream come true, an RV trip could be on the cards for you in the near future.
With an RV, you're able to stay longer and take your home on the road. It's not an easy task to make the transition from backpacking or car camping to RV travel. It's actually possible to make the transition simpler by conducting some study and planning ahead. You can also benefit from the support of a community of RVers who is willing to share their enthusiasm and experience. Here are some suggestions to aid you in planning your first trip.
RENTALS
You only have one choice when it comes to renting a vehicle: either drive it or tow it. It is best to rent the Class A, A, B, or C truck camper, or camper van for your first time trip. They are more comfortable to drive and easier to rent. You can hire and tow a trailer if you own an SUV or truck with towing capabilities.
If you have this question answered then narrow your search by looking for local RV dealers offering rentals and rental websites like Outdoorsy and Cruise America.
Any rental should include an in-depth walk-through and orientation, as well as an operating manual to help you with any questions when you're on the road. The orientation should cover electric, water, sewer hook-ups as well as appliances such as AC, heat and propane, as well as fuel and any other items you're unfamiliar with.
ROUTE PLANNING
Traveling by RV is more sluggish than a typical weekend road trip. Therefore, you should choose the overnight stops that are not more than 300 miles, or about four hours--apart. A shorter time spent on the road gives you more time to relax in your RV and take pleasure in your breaks.
Find campsites that are easy to access and exit (preferably pull-through) and have amenities such as showers and food services and have a competent staff members to address any questions you may have. (The KOA app is a great resource on the road for campgrounds that offer stable support for your first visit!)
Check your gas gauge and scout out truck stops to refill with about a quarter tank so you'll have enough room for pulling through, turning, and backing your RV, without the anxiety of running out of gas.
CAMP SET-UP & BREAK down
The biggest hurdle is likely to be setting up camp, and that's why the orientation is crucial. After parking your RV and leveling it, electric and water (grey black, grey, and fresh) systems should be hooked up. Slides are able to be extended. turned on the fridge, and turned on the heat/AC for maximum comfort. It's time to take them off and enjoy.
After removing camp, make sure to go back and ensure that everything is taken care of. The final destination is the dump station where you will remove your water tank from black.
Meet other RVers at your campsite, and take the time to observe how they set up camp. Everyone has a trick or experience that can help you make your travels easier and save you time. You'll be able to find a welcoming and supportive community that wants you to love your RV trip exactly as they do.
WHAT SHOULD YOU INCLUDE
It's simple, as your packing list for RVs is similar to what you'd take with you for car camping or hiking. Bring essentials like wicking, warmth, and waterproof layers of clothing, as well as adventure gear like backpack as well as a first aid kit hiking shoes, and a headlamp. Bring some of your most loved foods as well as towels, toiletries wood for fire, and other items that you would normally take with you when you travel. You'll have more space to store your belongings and spread out your belongings than you're used for in the tent.
A cooler will help you avoid frequent stops, stress of finding parking spots and navigate restaurant parking lots. Include water and treats for pets too to ensure everyone has food while driving and reduce breaks to truck stop fill-ups.
The RECAP is essential
Nothing teaches you more about RVing than an adventure, so when you're at home, you should discuss what went well, what didn't, and ways to make the next journey more enjoyable than the previous. There will be a few more trips before you're comfortable with the vehicle and your operating systems down however, you can modify your experience to take advantage of your favorite experiences and reduce stress.

Just How To Prepare The First Camper Road Travel
Tumblr media
Wouldn't it be great to get up in the morning and be just a few steps away from the day's hike, paddling or climb? And end your day sipping your favorite beverage by the campfire instead of making the long trip out of the backcountry to return home? If this sounds like a dream come real, then an RV adventure could be on the cards for you in the near future.
A vehicle allows you to remain longer and take your home along on the road. It's not easy to transition from car camping and backpacking to RV travel. It's actually possible to make the transition easier by conducting some study and making plans ahead. You can also benefit from the support of a community of RVers that is eager to share their enthusiasm and experience. These are some tips to aid you in planning your first trip.
Wouldn't it be great to get up in the morning and be just a few steps away from the day's hike, paddle, or climb? You can also end the day by relaxing by the campfire sipping on your favorite drink, rather than making the long drive back to the backcountry. If this sounds like a dream come to life, then an RV trip might be in your near future.
In an RV, you are able to remain longer and drive home on the road. It's not easy to change from backpacking and car camping to RV travel. With a little research, pre-trip planning and the assistance of a growing group of RV enthusiasts that's willing to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with you, it's easier than you think. Here are a few tips to plan your first trip.
RV RENTALS
The rental options you have are limited to one simple choice choose to drive it or tow it. It is best to rent an A, Class A, B, or C truck camper or camper van, to take your first time trip. They are more comfortable to drive and more convenient to hire. If you own an SUV or a truck with hitch and you have completed some towing, you could consider renting and towing a trip trailer instead.
If you've answered this question, you can limit your search by looking for dealers of RVs in your area that lease RVs as well as rental sites like Outdoorsy and Cruise America.
Any rental should include a thorough orientation and walkthrough, together with an operating guideline to help you with any questions when you're out on the road. The orientation should include electric, water, and sewer hook-ups, as well as appliances including heat, AC gasoline, propane and other things you're not familiar with.
ROUTE PLANNING
RV travel is a lot slower than your average weekend road trip. Therefore, you should choose places to stay overnight that aren't more than 300 miles--or about four hours--apart. The shorter travel time means you have more time to live in your RV and enjoy your breaks.
You want campsites that are easy to get to (preferably pull-through) with amenities such as showers, food service, and experienced staff. The KOA app is a fantastic source for finding campgrounds as well as the most reliable assistance for your first time trip.
Check your gas gauge and check out truck stops to fill up with about half tank to ensure you have enough room for turning, pulling, and backing your RV, without the anxiety of running out of gas.
CAMP SET UP AND BREAK CAMP DOWN
The most challenging task is likely to be making the camp. This is why orientation is crucial. After you've parked your RV and established your RV, the electric and water systems (grey dark, dark, and fresh) have to be connected. Slides can be extended, turned on the frig and turned on the heat/AC for the best comfort. Now it's time to unpack, and then enjoy.
You'll follow the same route while you tear down camp, leaving plenty of time to pack up, close down systems and secure everything loose so your belongings don't bounce about on the road. The last stop to make before leaving camp is the dump station, where you'll empty your black water tank, then you're back on the road.
Talk to other RVers at your campsite, and see how they set up camp. Everyone has a trick or experience that can help you make your travels easier and will save you time. You'll be able to find a welcoming and welcoming community that wants you to enjoy RV travel just as much as they do.
WHAT SHOULD YOU INCLUDE
It's simple, as your packing list for RVs looks a lot like what you'd pack for car camping or backpacking. Pack essentials like warming, wicking, waterproof layers of clothing as well as accessories for adventures like backpacks as well as a first aid kit the headlamp, and trail shoes. One of the most appealing aspects about traveling by RV is that you can bring certain essential items that you typically leave at home, like toiletries and towels, favorite meals, camping chairs and wood for the fire. There's more room to spread and store items than in a tent.
A cooler will help you avoid frequent stops, stress of finding parking spots and find parking spots for restaurants. Water and treats for pets are recommended as well to ensure everyone is able to eat on the road and ensure that truck stops do not take all day.
THE RECAP IS ESSENTIAL
There is nothing that can teach you more about RVing than the road, so after you're back home, make sure you review what worked as well as what didn't and how you can make the next one even better than the first. There will be a few more trips before you really know the vehicle and your operating systems down However, you are able to modify your experience to take advantage of what you enjoyed most and lessen stress.

6 Coolest Airstream Resorts in U.S.
Excerpt from July’s Travel & Leisure:
Even as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, many travelers are sticking to road trips this summer, with an estimated 56 million people hitting the road in their RVs. "Trip planning for RVers on Roadtrippers and Togo RV is up more than 50% from the peak of 2020, a year that saw the popularity of RVing explode," says Ashley Rossi, managing editor at Togo RV, an app for RV travelers. "This increase has been steady since March of this year."
Tumblr media
But RV travel can be expensive, especially if you have to rent a vehicle. It can also be intimidating: Can you handle a cross-country road trip? Should you pay for flights to your preferred destination, then rent an RV? Do you need a special license to drive an RV?
Enter the Airstream resort. The travel trailer has made a huge comeback in recent years, bringing with it a surge of resorts that offer fully renovated, luxury versions of the popular lodging from yesteryear.
"In the past 10 years or so, we've seen consumers drawn to heritage brands that exude authenticity with rich histories, superior product quality, and stylish designs — all of which are hallmarks of Airstream," says Bob Wheeler, CEO and president of Airstream. "Peoples' lives are so full of flawless, mass-produced, disposable products and I think it's created a hunger for our style of unique, handmade travel trailers and motorhomes."
Ready to experience this style of lodging for yourself? Read on to discover some of the coolest Airstream and vintage trailer resorts.

How to Travel on a Budget in the USA
So, because the world starts to ever slowly reopen, i would like to share 10 tips and tricks on the way to travel on a budget this year!
Change Your Mindset
Changing your mindset won’t be a standard budget tip, but it’s important nonetheless. Constantly remind yourself that travel is feasible while taking concrete steps to form it a reality. Action begets action — albeit it’s just baby steps.
Tumblr media
Start with a “yes, I can” mindset. Don’t think “I can’t travel” — think “What’s one thing I can do today to form my trip closer to reality?”
Life may be a mental game. Do one thing a day that gets you closer to your trip and you’ll end up building unstoppable momentum.
Come Up with a Savings Plans
Unless you’re Gates, we all got to save extra money. But how does one do that? While life is dear, I do believe there are always ways to save lots of a touch more. There’s always something you’ll cut. a touch little bit of savings adds up tons over time. Get Unbeatable deals on Flight booking on Click2book and Traveljunction
Get into the habit of putting money into your travel fund regularly — albeit it’s just a couple of dollars every week. Every little penny will help. The more you save, the more you would like to save lots of. It kind of becomes a game. It’s not a chore.
Score a Flight Deal
One of the items that folks always tell me holds them back from traveling more is that the cost of flights. But, let me tell you, there’s tons of deals immediately .
All the airlines try to fill planes and are offering tons of deals for summer and fall travel immediately. After all, they have to form up for a lost year and are wanting to get people on planes.
The key to finding an inexpensive flight is to be flexible together with your dates and your destination. If you’ve got your heart assail “Paris in June” you’ll be forced to pay regardless of the flight costs. But, if you open that up to “France within the summer” — or maybe “Europe within the summer” you’ll be ready to find less expensive flights since you’ll have tons more flexibility to check dates and destinations.
I like to use Google Flights and Click2book to browse my options. I type in my home city then pick “everywhere” as my destination. I then base my plans around where I can fly to for the smallest amount of cash .
However, if you don’t want to try to to that (I think it’s an ideal Friday night activity), you’ll inspect a number of the subsequent websites that look for deals and email them to you:
Get Points!
Travel hacking, the art of collecting points and miles, may be a good way to travel on a budget. By getting point-yielding credit cards and employing a few simple techniques, you’ll get many thousands of miles — with none additional spending. These points can then be cashed certain free flights, free hotel stays, and other travel rewards.
I’ve earned countless free flights, upgrades, and hotel stays from travel hacking. By optimizing my spending and listening to which cards earn the foremost points where, I’ve saved thousands of dollars — and you’ll too! Best Website to get rewards in Traveljunctionus.com, you must try this
Use the Sharing Economy
A group of budget backpackers relaxing at a pool during a hostel in Central America The sharing economy has led to a plethora of latest money-saving and community-building platforms that have made travel even cheaper , personal, and accessible. It’s never been easier to urge off the tourist trail, connect with locals, and knowledge their pace of life. I live by these websites once I travel! you ought to too.
Here are a number of the simplest sharing economy sites to assist you get started:
Airbnb — the simplest platform for locating rooms, apartments, and houses for rent by locals. Couchsurfing — Great for locating free accommodation (often on people’s couches) and meeting travelers/locals. The hangout feature on the app is my favorite, as you’ll see who is around to satisfy up. Trusted Housesitters — the foremost comprehensive website to seek out house-sitting gigs. You watch an area on vacation while the homeowner is on vacation. EatWith — Allows you to eat home-cooked meals with locals (it’s the Airbnb of food). It always results in interesting encounters, so it’s one among my favorite things to try to to . BlaBlaCar — A ridesharing app that pairs riders with verified locals who have a spare seat in their car. RVShare — Allows you to rent RVs and campervans directly from locals.
Find the Free!
The world is awash with amazing free travel resources (like this website) which will assist you travel on a budget. regardless of where you’re going, there’s probably a blog post on what to try to to and see there for free of charge or cheaply. Someone has been there and they’ve written about it! Make the simplest use of all of them to assist you propose your trip.
My favorite search term is “free things to try to to in X.” You’ll always get a result!
Additionally, don’t be afraid to steer into a hostel — albeit you aren’t staying there — and ask them what to try to to for reasonable . Their clientele is budget sensitive, in order that they always know what to try to to and where to travel for small money.
Local tourism boards also will have plenty of info on free things to try to to also
Stick with Public Transportation
Old tuk-tuks parked together in Sri Lanka If you’re on a budget, skip the taxis and rideshares like Lyft or Uber. Unless you’ll lower your cost by sharing a ride with other passengers, public transportation goes to be the foremost cost-effective thanks to get around. Not only will it prevent money but you’ll get to ascertain how the locals travel too.
Google Maps usually can offer you a basic overview of the general public transportation options and costs available. you’ll find information about day passes and/or multiday passes from your local hostel/hotel staff (as well as from local tourism offices). for reasonable intercity travel information, inspect Rome2Rio.
Use Local Tourism Offices
Local tourist offices are a wealth of data . They exist solely to supply you with information on what to ascertain and do. They often have plenty of discounts not found anywhere else and may also keep you updated on local events, free tours, and therefore the best spots to eat. they will assist you find public transportation discounts and/or multiday passes too.
Don’t skip the local tourist office! they’re a severely underutilized resource.
Get Cheap Accommodation
Cozy bunk beds during a hostel dormitory in Europe Accommodation is one among the most important fixed costs travelers have, so reducing that cost can cause big savings on the road. I’m sure many backpackers would sleep during a barn if it were the most cost-effective accommodation they might find! Heck, I’ve slept in hammocks in national parks to save lots of a buck!
Since you’ve got to remain somewhere nightly, reducing this expense can prevent tons of cash off the entire cost of your trip. Stay in hostels, use Couchsurfing, stay in empty university dorms, camp, or try an Airbnb.
Here are the websites i exploit to book cheap places to stay:
Booking.com — for locating budget hotels and guesthouses. Hostelworld — the simplest site for locating hostels. Agoda — Another great hotel website, specifically for Asia. Hotel Tonight — Offers discounted last-minute hotel stays. Airbnb — for locating private rooms, entire apartments, and houses for rent by locals.
Eat Cheap
Other than accommodation, food is one of the most important travel costs. After all, everyone must eat. But there are many ways to eat the cheap:
Go grocery shopping and prepare your own meals Shop at local markets Use apps to seek out deals (Yelp, Seamless, LaForchette, TasteCard, RiceBowl) Also, use the five-block rule. There seems to be this magical wall that surrounds tourist areas. most of people don’t go past it. It’s been my experience that if you walk five blocks in any direction from a serious tourist area, you finish up losing the crowds and finding the local restaurants.
In my experience, tourist restaurants don’t care about quality since those tourists aren’t returning. Residents do care so places catering to them got to be better — and cheaper — or they are going out of business. Those are the places you would like to erode. Use the above resources to seek out where the locals eat and avoid crappy food!

Okay.  So we don't know it yet, but someone (or someones) removed the hubcap of the Rialta's left rear tire. Including the lug nut covers.  While we were in the Rialta. That's a discovery that's still ahead of us, though.
The day actually begins with waking up to a very cherry blossom tree posing beside us.
A brief word about our sleep during this adventure: we both wear watches that keep track of steps, heart rate, blood pressure, and so on. The watches also keep track of our sleep and the quality of that sleep which we can then observe in a phone app that breaks it down by hours slept, time spent in light sleep, time spent in deep sleep, and so on. The app then rates our sleep, which is the metric I'm most interested in because so far... the scores don't play out the way I think they should. Poor quality sleep falls in the zero to sixty range. Sixty to seventy-five is considered "secondary". Seventy-five to ninety is "good". Ninety to a hundred is "excellent".
With me so far?
Now, I've worn the watch for several months now and, in that time, I only ever score in the middle to high range of "good". In my own bed. Indoors. Temperature controlled. "Good"... is my best score.
But then sleeping at these rest stops along I-5 in the back of an RV, I started scoring in the "excellent" range. For example, 60-ish miles north of Roseburg, the watch app documents six deep sleeps where I usually only score five at the most. Plus, my score's now firmly in the Nineties.  Apparently, then, my sleep quality really grooves in the back of RVs parked in rest areas next to busy interstates.
Who knew?
So we pull out of the rest area without our left rear hubcap and lug nut covers without realizing it. When eventually we stop for gas first thing, though, Kimmer spots it just as soon as we step out of the RV.
Pretty creepy to know that happened while we were right there just a few feet away.
Movin' up the freeway afterward, it's 10am by the time we hit Eugene for a morning Starbucks run. Interestingly, this one has three tables in its dining room open for seating. Which is a revelation since I haven't seen a single Starbucks with anything open in its dining room for over a year. So this is both different...  and super normal.
Okay so something we've been thinking about: when... do we actually and intentionally start going home?  Because just out of idle curiosity, I check Google Maps... and Astoria's a doable thing for us if we wanna take another night to ourselves. Plus, we won't have to backtrack all the way to I-5 in Portland once we leave Astoria. We can cross the Columbia river and sneak up on Kelso, Washington, from behind and join I-5 there. A grand idea for sure... but we're still experiencing the occasional transmission hiccup or misfire. Couple yesterday. Once this morning. And with Astoria only three-ish hours south of Seattle, we decide to add that to our list of future road trips along with the miniature golf tour we thought up on our way out of Medford, Oregon. Better to do Astoria, after all, when it's summer... since right now it's overcast along the coast with rain in the forecast.
For us, right now, then, we're gonna hug I-5.
Now the parking lot we're in for Starbucks is also the parking lot for Trader Joe's a little farther away. Which is where we pick up our salad lunches (Cobb salad and Spicy Arugula & Quinoa salad, btw) before continuing north on our way to Tualatin.  Along the way, Kimmer's Zooming with our new hot spot. I realize it's not new tech... but wow.
It's liberating.
By the time that meeting's over, we're stopping in at the Fred Meyer in Salem which is something we seem always to do going both directions. In this case, we need to score some dry ice for our cooler and we need to top off the air in each of the Rialta's well-traveled tires. And as we did on our way south, once again we spot the "High Ped Activity" sign the local DOT's placed before the Market Street offramp.
"High Ped Activity"
High Pedestrian Activity. Meaning... Meaning two densely-packed tent encampments wedged into the spaces beneath I-5 on either side of Market.
"High Ped Activity" indeed.
Now while I'm pumping up the RV's tires, I look up just as traffic on Market on the west side of I-5 catches the red light while traffic coming off the freeway southbound is clear to turn onto Market eastbound. They're turning onto Market through the stretch of road that runs underneath I-5 where the encampments are. And right then... as southbound traffic coming off I-5 gets the green, a man in a wheelchair decides to cross the street from one encampment to the other and is nearly hit by an SUV.
Yeah.
It was a very close thing. And the image of it's something that's indelible.
Tumblr media
At quarter to one we're on our way north again, stopping, finally, at that Comfort Inn where, yes, they hand me the wayward Rialta cushion we accidently left in our room eleven days ago. Then it's duplicating the keys to the Rialta at the key place next to Fred Meyer that's finally finally finally open. Then the GoodWill in Tigard, a town that's basically attached to Tualatin. Then the Dollar Tree down the street a ways. Then that Whole Foods that's just barely north of Tualatin but in Tigard... with an employee by self-checkout who basically looks like a young version of our friend Jeff. Plus there's the guy working in hot foods where we get our $10 special meals who worked at the Seattle Whole Foods in South Lake Union a few years back, 2016, our daughter’s store.
After we buy our dinners, we drop them in the Rialta and walk across the parking lot to that REI that's right. There.  We're over at REI 'cause we're still interested in solar powered gear and want to know what recommendations they have. Nice guy we spoke with, by the way, with fifteen minutes to close. He talked about the brand REI sells, Goal Zero, and explained his personal experience buying products from that company.
Then the store’s officially closed and we’re outta there with fare-thee-wells all around. :-)
Now we're back, sitting in the Rialta, eating our dinners and discussing  our plans, the first of which calls for us to spend a night or two at an RV park along the mighty Columbia River. So we call an RV place but it's after 8 already, too late in the day to accommodate us. Also, it's turning out that many such RV parks don't accommodate RV's built before a certain year. And no matter what year that is... the Rialta we're driving was built before it.
So an RV park along the mighty Columbia River's not something we can make happen. Not tonight.
Maybe tomorrow morning, though.  So we figure that, since we wanna stay in the area, better to backtrack a touch and spend the night at the nearest rest area south of where we are and then see what's possible tomorrow. Which is how we wind up at French Prairie Rest Area Northbound... but only after missing the southbound exit because my phone died even though it was on charger up front with all our other electronics. I missed the southbound exit eleven miles down I-5 'cause the nice lady in Google Maps didn't say to take that exit. So I didn't and had to eat another ten miles southbound before turning around and doing those miles all over again plus the ones we would've done had I taken the exit I was supposed to take in the first place.
Yeah.
It was another not great moment for me.
By the time we arrive at French Prairie Rest Area Northbound, it's 10. Interesting thing, though, the place looks closed. Like for construction.
Fortunately, and even though there’s construction going on, French Prairie's basically a two-parter: the parking lot in front that's under construction... and the massive parking lot in back where all the 18-wheelers, RVs, and everyone else spends the night. There's a second restroom building back there (open only during daylight hours). There's even a huge solar panel farm behind all of that.
So.
What initially looks very small and closed for construction... is really a huge parking lot with plenty of space and facilities and woods and grass. Basically hidden behind a façade that screams "Closed".  How very clever.
This is our home for the night and SPOILER ALERT we manage not to have anything stolen whilst sleeping this time around.
Once again, Hot In Cleveland...
And then we're out like lights  :-)
