Shivabrata Das
Oriya lyricist Shivabrata Das was an Oriya lyricist. In the 1960s and 1990s, he wrote songs for more than 50 Oriya short stories.
Biography-- Shivabrata was born on August 26, 1930 in Baleshwar to a lyrical family. Father Sachindra Das and mother Kumudini Devi. He married Subhasini Devi. He has a daughter and a son named Baby and Baby. Shivabrata's poetry began to be written while he was studying at Serevensa College. There Shivabrata Jeevanananda came in contact with the water. His cousin Parthasari Mohapatra was also a student of Ravensa. Parthasarathy also wrote songs and sang them to Akshay Mohanty. After Parthasarathy fled to Delhi to work, Akshay caught sight of Shivabrata. Shivabrata was working in the police department at the time. Akshay was fascinated by Shivabrata's poetry and asked him to write a song. From then on, Akshay's alliance with Shivabrata began. According to Akshay, he met Shantanu Mohapatra. He chose his song "Kaich Patar Saru" for the Bhubaneswar Mishra Akashwani program "Sajful" and the song was aired on Akashwani Cuttack in the voice of Raghunath Panigrahi. With this song, he came to the forefront. Dhir Bishwal asked Shivabrata to write a song for his film Mana Akash. The first song was "A Ban Jharna". But why go out when you are staying at the capital of the hidden gem of the country? Thoughts apart, I came across SIMSS through social media first, and later discussed it with few alumni. With the overall feedback, I was so eager to have a visit. Soon I contacted the college and visited for the first time to have a look at all the things they have shown on the website. It was amazing indeed! Being a citizen of Odisha, and that too from Bhubaneswar! I was quite familiar with the Swosti group, as It's never less than a brand. With a lot of knowledge & experience, they are very down to earth in giving their best to the seekers.  Well-furnished hostel rooms, library with a large variety of books and articles to go through, Hassle-free transportation facilities, social activities, Curricular activities, celebrations, and training. It's fun to learn at the campus. As they have a tie-up with a variety of premium hotels and resorts, a few seminars and visits are also of great exposure. Because our syllabus includes a foundation course in food & beverage, introduction to nutrition, Front office management, and tourism and hospitality basics, all the courses are designed keeping modern needs in mind.
Facilities In SIMMS:
In case you are wondering is it all about food, food, and food! Well, let me tell you something more. It also includes culinary art, food photography, and travel vlogging, ticketing, and booking reservations among others. And all the guidance provided is of the international standard, including some industry-leading star chefs. As I was good at grabbing things at an early stage, I managed to grab the scholarship that they provide to deserving candidates.
Tending towards the end of the session, few months left, and here comes the best part. The internship days are here! Must have come across the name SWOSTI PREMIUM? Might have visited either! But when it comes to the internship at the luxury 5-star hotel of Bhubaneswar, here the dream came true. Cooking, serving, managing, and maintaining! It's 5-star for a reason. Where to, how to, when to, whom to, and what to! We got every answer to our questions that added up to our confidence in leading the industry like never. And with this, I am proud enough to call myself a part of this brand.
Completion Of The Course:
At the end, we were already trained and confident enough to rush through the hotel and hospitality industry. In all the 4 years, never felt like making a bad decision in choosing SIMSS, rather I am proud to get such a platform in my own state. With my deserving scores and percentage, I attended the interviews in my last year of the course and was selected by a luxury resort. Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], Nov 30 (ANI): Former Union Minister Dilip Ray on Friday resigned as an MLA from Rourkela constituency and quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that he acknowledged his failure in living up to the expectations of the people. Ray, on grounds of "moral responsibility", also announced that he would not be contesting from the Rourkela seat in the next year's Lok Sabha elections. Thanking the people of Rourkela constituency for his support, Ray, in a lengthy letter, termed his decision as "emotionally too painful and difficult". "I, at this stage have nothing to offer but an apology to my people who have always stood by see through thick and thin. I hope my constituents will understand the unavoidable circumstances that rendered it necessary for me to take this difficult decision," he wrote. Recalling his political journey, he said, "In 2014, after a long gap, I decided to make a comeback to electoral politics and contest the Rourkela Assembly Constituency seat. Rourkela has always remained close to my heart and even though away from electoral politics, it has always been my esteemed priority to give my best attention to the Steel City." Ray underscored that he envisioned a whole lot of development works for the city and had promised to fulfill the "long-ignored dreams and aspirations" of the people who had reposed their faith in him. "I did put up the best of my efforts to the best of my ability and left no stone unturned to materialise the dreams and aspirations of my constituents but at this stage, I acknowledge my failure in living up to their expectations and therefore, taking up the moral responsibility. I have decided to quit as the Member of State Legislative Assembly as well as from the membership of Bharatiya Janata Party," the former Union Minister said. "Among others, Brahmani Bridge and the upgradation of IGH to a Medical College cum Super Speciality Hospital were the two most burning issues concerning the region. These were also the two emotive issues based on which I had contested the 2014 elections. It is in the public domain that post my election, these two issues have been the most pressing priorities for me. From calling on Prime Minister, Union MoRTH Minister, Union Steel Minister and SAIL Chairman to impress upon them the need of expeditious construction of both these projects, to writing numerous letters and repeatedly raising these issues in the state Assembly as well as on other public forums, I did everything which I could have done in my official as well as personal capacity. However, the relentless efforts and the intense follow-ups on sty part have not been able to produce the desired results," Ray elaborated. He said that as far as the issue of upgradation of IGH to a Super Speciality Hospital and Medical College (SSHMC) is concerned, apart from undertaking the modernisation of some departments, nothing worthwhile happened. "At a point of time, there was also a talk that Rs 200 crores was sanctioned for the upgradation of ISO and that the work would commence soon. The Central Ministers visiting Rourkela also spoke on similar lines. However, that remained confined to a mere declaration only and the project is yet to see the light of the day," Ray added. Talking about the second Brahmani Bridge, Ray said that after repeated requests, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had laid the foundation stone for the structure on July 21, 2017, and promised that the work would commence within 15 days. "Had it indeed commenced within 15 days, a better part of the project would have been executed till now but to great disappointment, this project too is yet to witness any significant development. Though there have been several ill-informed claims that the construction work of the bridge is underway but a simple assessment of the ground conditions by anyone will bring to fore the reality," the former Union Minister said. "I consider it as my personal failure and inability to deliver on commitments and hold myself solely responsible for it. These were the two issues on which I fought the 2014 elections and having failed in delivering on them, I have no moral authority to go to the people and seek a re-election and neither will my conscience permit that. Therefore, it is with deep anguish that I have also decided not to contest the upcoming assembly elections in 2019 from Rourkela," Ray added. Highlighting his past achievements, Ray said that he played an instrumental role in declaring Rourkela as a Smart City, establishing a Regional Passport Office, a commercially viable airport, modernising of Rourkela Railway Station along with other development works. He credited Sundargarh MP and Union Minister Jual Oram for playing a "significant role" in these projects. Underlining that the people of Rourkela constituency were going through "hardships due to the non-execution of the projects", Ray said that it "pained him immensely". He asserted that "incessant, annoying, and inordinate delays" has marred the construction of the two projects and has particularly led to "generation of two strong perceptions amongst the masses". "The delay has to do with a tug-of-war within the BJP and that someone very powerful is deliberately creating impediments in the execution of these projects, just to ensure that I don't walk away with the credit of these projects. Due to it, there is also a perception that till I remain the MLA, these demands would not be fulfilled," he said. "There is also a perception amongst the BJP workers and the people of the district that a certain section within the party itself doesn't want Sundargarh to become a BJP bastion and their efforts have been oriented towards ensuring that BJP doesn't fare as well as it did in 2014 elections in Sundargarh district. However, the fact that I have failed to deliver on the issues on which I contested in 2014 elections fills me with shame and this guilt torments me from within," Ray added. Praising his constituents of "love, affection and support", Ray further said, "Whether these perceptions are right or wrong is for the time to decide but for me, being an obstacle to the realisation of the long-standing demand of the people of Rourkela is the last thing in my life I can think of. Any political position that comes at the cost of development of Rourkela can be of little value to me and I am willing to sacrifice it happily and unhesitatingly." He assured that he would continue his struggle for the fulfillment of the two projects and would always be available for any cooperation sought. (ANI)

Odisha is still untouched by the mayhem the country sees today, said the jolly grandpa of English literature, Ruskin Bond whose stories feel home and speak of characters we’re sure to encounter in our life. MHere to attend Bhubaneswar Literary Fest, the eminent writer, shared some of his life’s memories, opinions and experience in a conversation with Odisha Sun Times. Ruskin Bond lost his father when he was only nine years old and had a lonely two to three years. “I found refuge in books at that time. We had a wonderful library in our school so I would read lots of books by different authors like Charles Dickens and Charlotte Bronte. I also read popular authors like Agatha Christie and P.G. Wodehouse. Detective stories have also been my favourites which I am currently reading too (pointing to ‘The word is Murder’ by Anthony Horowitz kept on his table). As I grew older, I was given complete charge of my school library so I had the key! I would spend my time there reading books, a whole lot of them,” he said. He went to no college or university after his school and instead pursued writing while doing odd jobs to take care of his daily expenditure. Speaking about his early days of writing, he said, “In school, I had this exercise book where I would note down everything including my experiences in school with teachers. I would rather write funny things about them and it fell into the hands of the headmaster one day! He said, ‘I see you’ve been wasting your time, Ruskin,’ and tore it. So, my first novel was down in the dustbin before anyone knew (laughing). Anyway, I had decided to pursue writing by the time I completed my schooling. When I went to my mother and she asked me about my future plans, I said that I wanted to be a writer to which she replied, ‘Don’t be stupid, Ruskin. Join the army’, because in those days we had limited career options. Joining army was the best of all but it didn’t interest me. I flew to London and worked there to earn while writing my first novel, ‘Room on the Roof,’ which astonishingly is still around!” Over the years, a lot of things have changed including the writers, the writing style and the number of publishers, is what he feels. “About 30-40 years ago, we hardly found any publisher but it has now become a business. Writing is fashionable these days while in my early days, one didn’t really earn much through writing. Also, technology has brought about a whole new dimension to it. Years ago, a writer had the pleasure of anonymity and we were known by names, not faces. Today, writing can make you a celebrity. Being anonymous is better because then I can walk around freely and observe people,” he said. He further expressed how his love for longhand writing has kept him away from gadgets. “It is also out of laziness that I avoid all these technological stuff,” he laughed. Born into an English-speaking family, he too picked up the same. His Hindi learning was restricted as it was the colonial period. “Hindi was introduced in the curriculum later in 1948 and I had completed my schooling by then,” he said. Emphasising on the importance of regional language, he said it’s important for everyone to learn it. “Though the chances of success in books written in the regional language are less or restricted. You can always get it translated,” he added.  “I feel, Odisha is still untouched by all the chaos and mayhem of the country. I have been to Gopalpur, Puri and Konark, not much into the interiors but I am sure we’ll see more quiet corners in Odisha than Mussoorie. This city itself, it has wide avenues, free spaces and lawns to spend some time. I have come here a lot of time and I feel at home here. Whenever I visit Odisha, guesthouses prepare Dalma, rice and other Odia food. I love the fish curries more. I love fishy things!” he said as he laughed. He mentioned about a story in one of his ghost story collection, where he wrote about his stay in Gopalpur in a bungalow whose caretaker turns out to be a ghost. “In the story, I forget my passport in Gopalpur’s Bunglaw and when I am back home in Mussoorie, someone knocks on the door. It’s the caretaker with my passport who gives it to me and vanishes!” We might read some more of Odisha in his books very soon, he said. He works on two-three things concurrently, he said while sharing about his future plans. “I am working on children’s stories, dreams and a short memoir. I’m taking it easy because I have so many books unread still. I have been writing down my dreams since last few months. The first thing I do when I wake up is recalling those dreams and penning them down which is what I’ll come up with next, soon.” In a message to budding writers, he said, “Keep budding and blossoming! Write more, read even more and keep improving your style.” His sense of humour adds up to the charm his stories create. Wrapping the interview up, he had a message for Odisha, “Odisha, keep getting more beautiful and prosperous.” The Odisha Sun Times Bureau : 11th. Jan,18
