Beverly and Ben as Snow White and Cinderella from an IT au i've been working on for the past week.

Beverly Marsh is a princess to a kingdom she's not allowed to set foot in. Her father, evil king Alvin, hasn't been the same since he found that strange mirror in the woods he talks to every morning. His descent into insanity started long before that though, marked by the death of his beautiful wife queen alfrieda. He fell into paranoid delusions abd turned his kingdom into a military state. Gaurds, locks, weapons, chains, all of that and more became the kingdoms lifeblood. His daughter, princess Beverly, is his second most prized possesion next to his magic mirror. She looks just like her mother, and king alvin only wants the most beautiful girl in the world in his collection. Every morning he asks the mirror who's the fairest of them all and it answers back honestly every time. Until the day the mirror stops alvin has decided to keep bev locked within the walls of the palace, dressed in rags to hide her beauty, and constantly doing household chores to distract her from boys. In all this hulabaloo about who's the fairest of them all though, real fairness has seemingly become secondary, and bev can't stand for that. All she has to her name these days is a title she does nothing with and a wishing well- and bevs plum sick of wishing! So she sews herself a new dress and runs away to find someone who will understand and help her. Too bad king alvin would rather his daughter be dead than by his side, so he hires a dim witted huntsman to bring her back... well, a piece of her at least... in a box.

Ben Hanscom has been called Haystack longer than he's been called Benjamin, and unfortunately it wasn't one of those nicknames coined for positive reasons. He lost his father in a war a long time ago and his mother remarried some annoying police officer wirh four equally annoying sons who seemed to hate Ben from the moment they saw his belly. Too give them some credit, Arlene did spoil Ben a lot when she was alive- mostly to cope with losing her husband, but if Ben was spoiled sweet then Butch Bowers sons were spoiled rotten. After Arlene died it practically became a game of who could steal Ben's stuff the fastest, with Ben's bedroom, his mother's drawing room, and the house library being gutted and turned into new bedrooms so Butch's kids could stop sharing and Ben could sleep in the barn outside. From then on ben would clean, cook, and do basically everything else noone wanted to do. All the while bearing many crude and cruel remarks about his weight. It made him quite handy over the years though, nobody could build things like him- especially not any Bowers. His family started calling him Haystack not long after, a playful jab at Ben for being fat and constanly having stray hay needles in his hair from sleeping in the barn. It was no wonder that Ben's self confidence was a total mess after a while, but he tried to make the most out of his situation. He spends most of his days saving birds and other small animals from his step brother patricks sick and twisted hands. When the royal ball comes around he gets a magical new suit and shoes as well as a handsome skinny make over that makes him totally unrecognizable to his family at the party. He realizes very soon that even if he's a beauty and princess greta likes him, he's not actually happy like this. His feelings are only emboldended when he sees his step family maim themselves trying to fit the tiny glass shoe that's so small it can't even fit their skinny asses. For once, they're the ones who are too big to be loved... and ben is disgusted. He runs away and decides everyone here is just all too superficial.

Maybe he'll get lucky and meet a princess who values things other than looks though. ;)

thinking about mike hanlon. mike hanlon, who stayed in derry for twenty-seven years out of a sense of duty, yes, but for the most part, out of his love for six losers who didn’t even remember he existed. the six losers who made him feel like he wasn’t an outsider for the first time in his life. six losers who helped him realize that it’s important to be tough, sure, but that it’s also okay to be soft too. it’s okay to care for the creatures that no one else does. (no matter what your grandfather says.) the six losers who defended him, who accepted him immediately and without hesitation. who showed him the “inexplicable warmth of friendship.”

and how that warmth vanished for the others when they left derry. but it never vanished for mike.

thinking about how mike hanlon must have ached, wanting to call them so much during the near-three decades apart, but knew logically that he couldn’t. because he knew they’d think It was back. knowing that they forgot him, not of their own volition, but because of the wretchedness of derry’s curse. it’s comforting some nights, but other nights mike can do nothing but stare at the photos the seven of them took in that photo booth.

mike hanlon being the outsider again, trapped in derry without the friends that gave life its meaning. and still staying, because of the immeasurable love he had for those friends. because of an oath he made to protect them.

and because of him, they all get a happy ending. he finally gets to leave his childhood home, his trauma, and make his own adventure, his own life. knowing that his friends are always there for him. and they’ll never forget again. all thanks to mike and his love.
