anyway according to wikipedia the third national treasure movie is still on and i don't know if i believe it'll ever actually happen but i know exactly what i want out of it. they won't do it because franchises are doomed by capitalism these days but can you imagine how good it could be to have all the characters twenty years later going, one more time. let's do this one more time. a la the muppets (2011) it's like, can we do this? has it been too long? is our time over? but no—the love is still there. the love and the passion and the friendship and the genuine investment in history and making the world a better place that motivated them before is still there. it never left. and maybe they're all older and it seems like they shouldn't be doing this anymore, maybe the world's moved on without them, and "people don't really talk like that anymore" and maybe they can't keep doing this forever. but they can do it one more time. for old time's sake. you know.

A/N: A non Sunny x Miggy post? How odd for me lol. I’m so sorry this is super late and to everyone whose requested, I’m working slowly but surely on y’all’s stuff. If you wanna read some stuff in the meantime, here’s the Masterlist and feel free to join my discord.

A/N: I tried doing the you/yours pronoun thing because this isn’t a Sunny fanfic but I really don’t like it lol.

Warnings: Jealous Miguel?, Unrequited/Forbidden? Love, Female Reader/Female Pronouns, Barely use of Y/N, and no Spanish this time ((I’m trying to find a new translator and hopefully an editor))

The universe.

One of life’s greatest mysteries. A mass of stars and galaxies that housed so many lives within its many pockets. The lives of so many people whose lives were already written within its cloudy arms and their ends cemented in its pools of nothingness.

A beautiful cycle of cruelty and destiny.

A cycle that was the reason for your utter misery as you sat at a bar listening to your dimension’s Ben Riley blabber on about some football game you cared nothing about.

His oblivious brown eyes sparkled at the fascination with the game as his dimpled smile accentuates his sharp jawline. The warm lights from above caused a healthy glow to bounce off of his shaggy blonde hair, almost making him look like an angel. You can see why Spiderverse assigned him as your love interest.

In your earth’s canon, you were a typical woman who had gotten bit by a radioactive spider during a high school field trip and you spent your entire high school experience thrashing goons instead of chasing boys. Even helped take down some aliens with the Fantastic Four and the Avengers at times before college finals. Spiderwoman was New York’s beloved hero and the cockiness of being its one and only SpiderWoman quickly got into her head.

That was until six months ago.

Six months ago, you were fighting the Vulture over the Empire State Building when another, more mutated version of the same villain appeared. They both decided in your state of delirium over the doubles that you would be a good plaything.

“Hey, I didn’t ask for a combo with my chicken!” A feminine spider’s voice screeches as she avoids the hooked talons of the erratic variant.

The two villains took turns flying menacingly around the scope of buildings to throw the hero off of their location while the other swooped in and tries to rip her throat out.

As she attempts to escape the feathered monster, its companion would come and slice away the web of salvation, continuing the vicious cycle.

Blood blinded her vision as the loud ringing at the base of her skull grew louder. The causes of that annoying alarm grasp their razor claws into her shoulders before sweeping her exhausted body into the air with a victorious snarl.

‘I guess this is the end…’

As the heavens draw closer to her doom, her life hanging up by the slicing of her muscles and bones, a glimmer of fate happens. The warmth of a flash barely registers as the first ache disappears with a startled squeak and a burly force. The sudden change in feeling takes her breath away as she suddenly begins to plummet below.

Her eyes quickly adjusting to the suffocating drop, she can see that one of the Vultures was now fighting an even more prominent blue figure, his howls of pain and unintelligible cursing heard from the stumbling brawl.

As the flash from her familiar foe reaches around the building, she shoots her web at him and used him as a glider.

“Time to ground you, birdie!” She yells as she throws the villain through a window. Catching her grip on the building, she looks at her new foe in the sky and the wind is knocked out of her from the sight.

The man who saved her was in a futuristic spider suit with his mask now off. His dark hair flutters in the wind as the setting sun makes his tanned skin glow. His red eyes glare at the wiggling mutant as his full lips pull back into a snarl. His jaws open revealing a set of large fans before he plunged them into the mutant.

Who the hell is that?

“(Y/N)?…” Ben frowns as he realizes his date was lost in her thoughts.

You snapped out of your head and fake an apologetic smile. “Sorry, I was remembering something….”

That wasn’t a complete lie. You remembered the day you met Miguel O’Hara. The Spiderman of the year 2099 and the leader of the inter-dimensional Spider Society. The anomaly that had come into your world had brought the two together and you were recruited due to your stubbornness, much to Miguel’s annoyance.

“No.” His annoyance dripped from these words as he glares down at you. You were caught in wonder at the idea of there being other Spidermen and that they worked together to stop the collapse of the entire universe. The thought seemed too good to be true that you just had to ask if you could join until those red eyes shot your dream through the heart.

“What do you mean ‘No’?” You ask in disbelief. Your own eyes glared deep into his soul as your hands balled into fists. “I’m a Spiderman just like you! How could you-!”

“You are not like me.” He coldly snaps at you, your ranting briefly interrupted as the man towers over you. His clawed hand grasps your face as his glare sets a spark of fury down in your chest.

“You will never be like me and you will never-!” “Is that our new recruit?” A smooth British accent appears behind Miguel as a spiked-headed Spiderman peeks around his bulking figure.

“No, she’s-” The tall punk pulls you away from Miguel with a mischievous laugh as he introduces himself. “Ello, love, my name is Hobie. Hobie Brown.” He leans down with a sly smirk as his mischievous attitude infests your being like a plague. “Just play along, mate. Let’s riffle this wanker’s undies.” He whispers as you giggle.

“Nice to meet you, Hobie.” I allow a sly smirk to slide onto my face as I look back at the now very annoyed Miguel. “My name is (Y/N) and I’m happy to join.”

The distant sound of screams filters through the bar as the distinct sound of a car being tossed into another building.

Looking at my gizmo disguised as a watch, you realized that the canon event was starting.

“You did well today,” Miguel admits under his breath. Looking at him in shock, you realize that he wasn’t scowling like he normally was. He had a softer expression, his eyes shining with approval as his lips quirked into a mimic of a smile.

The mission had almost gone rouge with the escape of a prowler and him hiding low in a crowded dimension. Despite the obvious danger, Miguel opted to go alone like usual, but his lack of spider sense caused him to get caught up in a trap. Talons and Fangs don’t really help if you can’t exactly move around to use them, so he ended up taking serious blows.

Luckily, you managed to get there and tumble with the villain long enough for the others to rescue Miguel, and the team managed to recapture the prowler. Of course all of them looked pretty bad injuries wise, but the look Miguel had as you sat there bandaging up his wounds made it worth it for some odd reason.

“Thanks Boss.”

June 27th : SpiderWoman of Earth 648 will rescue love interest, Ben Riley, from an attack against The Rhino….

The roaring of the mechanical beast fills the panicked screams of the patrons as the sinking feeling falls in your chest. Ben is quick to play the hero like any guy would as he grabs your arm and drags you out towards the emergency exit. Just like the timeline said it would.

You use the chaos to your advantage as you pretend to trip and get lost in the crowd of people struggling to escape from the emergency exit.

“What do you mean by that?!” I snapped at an irritated Miguel.

Lyla was surprisingly quiet as she watched the duo argue. Miguel whips around at you as his ruby eyes scorched into yours. His talons point at you accusingly as he reiterates your next canon event.

“On June 27th, you are going to be out on a date with Ben Riley. The Rhino is gonna attack that street and you’re gonna save everyone, and afterwards you’re gonna have to kiss him.” His frustration evident as his permanent frown creases.

You stare into his eyes in defiance as you coldly utter, “No. I’m not gonna kiss Ben Riley.”

“And why not? He’s your love interest!” Miguel exclaims, obviously more furious than before. “You’re the Peter to his MJ. You gotta kiss him because you’re destined to be.”

“I don’t love him! I don’t even like his whiny ass!” You snap as you felt your frustrated tears roll down your face.

It’s true. Before you joined this team, you would have been thrilled that you were destined to be with Campus Hunk Ben Riley. He was everything you could ever want from a guy. He was good looking, sensitive, athletic, and social able. The all around good guy you would be proud to bring home to your folks.

But…

Sharp grasp on your shoulder alerts your attention back to Miguel as he slams you back against the desk. His eyes burning embers as he glares down at you.

Changing into your spidersuit, you began to fight The Rhino with a distracted daze in your movements.

The memory from a week prior burning in your mind as you sloppily avoided cars and harsh blows. After a few well timed flips and back kicks, the brute decides to throw a large street cleaning truck towards the alleyway. Just like Lyla predicted when she handed you the file.

The Rhino is gonna throw a street cleaner towards the alleyway where Ben is. SpiderWoman will stop the truck before impact and sling it back towards The Rhino ending the fight.

“And why is it that you are being so difficult?!” He snaps as his fangs glimmer from his scowl. A cute trait you used to love about him until it was pointed at you. “You are no better than a spoiled child with how you are acting so you better have a good fucking reason!”

You growl back at him with a tear rolling down your enraged face.

He had no right to argue with you about your life, not when he’s the one making it difficult.

Shooting a web out towards the buildings, you catapulted yourself into the air and landed in front of the truck. Quickly reusing the web with some enforcements, the truck was bounced back to the The Rhino. The enormous foe gets trampled by the machinery as the crowd cheers for SpiderWoman’s dreaded victory.

“Way to go SpiderWoman!!” A familiar voice joins the crowd as I see Ben on the ground, obviously he either tripped or fell back to avoid the truck. You offer a hand towards him as you thank him softly.

“Thank you.” I faked the smile in my voice as the crowd disappears, leaving the two of you in the alley way.

Finally snapping at him, you yell out in fury,

“BECAUSE HE’S NOT YOU!”

With a frustrated slap to Miguel’s face, you run past him and escaped back to your dimension, heartbroken over how the events to come and what just happened that despite everything you couldn’t change fate.

No matter how many times you fell asleep during long nights talking on his observation deck. No matter how many playful sparring matches turn into flirty comments. Not even the little gestures of bringing the grumpy spider his coffee and him bringing you some sweets during meetings could change that the star already written your path.

You fell in love with a man who isn’t meant to be yours.

It’s been a week since that fight and you still haven’t seen or heard from him. It hurt to know that your confession was brushed aside while you had to continue the continuity. You half at least expected him to be here to make sure you at least followed through with the canon event.

“Would you like a swing home?” I offer just like I’m supposed to. The moment that was meant to be a nervous beginning to a love story felt like the beginning of heartache as I watched a blush form on his face.

“Sure,” he answered before a flash of realization that his date was suddenly not with him. Another trait you wouldn’t have noticed if you were as in love with him as you were suppose to be.

“Hey my date isn’t here…I think she got hurt or lost during the panic.” His concern caused a pang of guilt to stab her in the chest.

Recovering quickly, you shoot out some webbing and playfully hang upside down infront of him. “Well I guess that swinging date will have to be postponed.”

“Wait it was gonna be a-!”

Quickly, you pulled down the mask enough to deliver a quick peck to his rambling mouth. You force out a giggle as he stood looking at you flabbergasted.

“See ya, Riley.” You swing off as the man bumbled to even ask how you knew his name.

Lyla just said it was a kiss, not a what kind of kiss.

With a heavy heart, you swing back home as you tried to remember that this was all for the sake of the canon. That Miguel didn’t care for you the way you did for him. You tried your hardest to tell your aching heart that those past few months were you just making too much out of nothing.

You mournfully entered your apartment through the bathroom window you normally kept unlocked . You stripped away the skin tight fabric before wrapping yourself in the familiar comfort of your robe as you exited the room into a dim lit living room.

You heart stick in your chest as you see Miguel standing there in your living room in his bright blue spider suit and a beautiful spring lily in his hand.

“Miguel? What are you doing here?…” You ask as yoy warily approach him, scared he’s gonna do something to you.

He shakes his head, refusing to answer as he hands you the flower. It’s soft white petals shining in the pale moonlight as you smile fondly at it. They were your favorite flower. Something you told Miguel a million times before.

Before you could thank him for the kind gesture, a soft thump above you alrets you to look up. A spindle of glowing webbing cascaded down the ceiling with the large spiderman now suspended upside down from it. His free hand caresses the side of your face as his eyes stared softly into yours.

“I can’t change the canon, mi amor…” he whispers sadly before mischief lights up his molten gaze. “But we certainly can try to rewrite the stars for us.”

An excited nod from you causes his chest to rumble as he pulls you into a slow passionate kiss.

You were glad this is a canon event for spider men despite it not going as planned.

National Treasure: The Musical

Previously, we hallucinated the first act of a National Treasure musical.

And now:

ACT II

INT. ROTUNDA - NIGHT

The curtain opens with AGENT SADUSKY and the other FBI AGENTS —JOHNSON, HENDRIX, & DAWES— and facing the audience. He addresses the audience as if we’re the gala guests ensuring us that everything is fine.

The ensemble is additional FBI agents.

Then he and the agents regroup by themselves. Agent Hendrix admits that they received a tip but it wasn’t recorded.

Sadusky: How ‘bout now?

SONG: Every Second Counts

The song starts on a very sassy, staccato note just after Sadusky says his sassy line. Its melody is urgent as he and the other agents try to figure out what happened.

They question:

MIKE, the guard that Ian and co knocked out. He doesn’t remember anything.

HEAD GUARD WOODRUFF, who tells them that a copy of the Declaration is on display and that there were no other guards in the vault hallway.

STAN, who says Abigail is missing but there’s no way she was involved.

CASHIER, who relays the weird interaction she had with Ben.

Different cast member come forward to meet them as the agents do basically a walk & talk around the stage.

↳ Btw Disney has generously paid for us to have one of those in-stage treadmill things so let’s use that for the blocking here to help the scene feel dynamic. Do your best Aaron Sorkin impression, you know?

That’s how the agents get Ben’s name: Benjamin Franklin Gates.

Now the song quiets down for Sadusky to have a verse alone thinking about Ben. This element is in the final movie, but it’s one of the things that stands out to me most from the 2003 script as well (at least, of things that aren’t ridiculous): the other agents are quick to assign roles and motivations to Ben. He must be an anti-american terrorist, etc. Sadusky waits and analyzes.

So this verse is a little bit more intimate as Sadusky wants to understand who Ben is and what’s making him tick before he makes any judgements.

Ends with the lead toward Patrick. “Closest relative first.”

INT. GATES FAMILY HOME - NIGHT

Ben asks Patrick for the Silence Doogood letters.

Riley asks what the magic numbers mean. Ottendorf cypher.

Patrick explains that he donated the letters. Ben will absolutely still give his dad the finger in the way he pulls off his cotton gloves. Iconic.

Abigail says she can’t believe all this time no one knew what’s on the back.

Patrick: The back of what?

SONG: Too Far

Let’s have Patrick get a little angrier, yeah?

In this brief song Patrick will criticize Ben for taking things too far. He’ll say that he’s tolerated all of Ben’s treasure hunt shenanigans, him wasting his potential, but this is too much. The worst insult will come when he says Ben has let his grandfather down.

Patrick: And you’ve dragged me into all this

Ben: Well we can’t have that.

END SONG

Ben and the gang tape Patrick to the chair before leaving. They mention that they’re going to take Patrick’s car.

INT. HOTEL - NIGHT

Ian and the gang puzzle over the riddle. It’s a little more banter-y than in the movie but it’s clear Ian is in control. He’s the kind of guy where they henchmen will laugh if he laughs and stop if he stops.

Maybe we learn a bit more about each henchman here?

And they’re playing poker or something. Pretty chummy.

Ian figures out the “Silence is a name” clue.

INT. CLOTHING STORE - DAY

Although the scene in the car is one of my favorites, it won’t really work here, so we’ll have the Common Sense/how do they have cash discussion in the store while Ben and Abigail pick out clothes.

We’ll watch them make the plan to have Riley go and get the cypher clue because he’s the one least likely to be spotted.

Riley leaves and Ben and Abigail head into the questionably designed dressing rooms.

SONG: Cavalier

Oh we’re definitely doing a song for this one.

Abigail asks Ben about Patrick’s comment. Ben explains his dad’s philosophy on love.

Since we have time to get a bit more introspective here, let’s dig into this a little more. As I’ve discussed elsewhere, I think this whole “cavalier in your personal life” says way more about Patrick than it does about Ben.

So Ben will explain a bit more about who his dad is, what Patrick expects Ben to be, and how Ben actually lives his life.

Superstar bonus points if we make it canon that his mom is dead in this version.

This song is mostly Ben’s with Abigail popping in here and there. Subtextually it makes it clear that actually Ben does have a one true love just like his dad wanted, but it’s the treasure.

The song ends with Ben and Abigail doing a nice little harmony now that they’re falling more in sync. And yes, some of Ben’s old-time-y poetic phrasing will be used in the lyrics.

EXT. FRANKLIN INSTITUTE - DAY/INT. CLOTHING STORY - DAY

The lights go down on the clothing store but it’s still visible. Ben and Abigail finish any quick changing they need to do.

Riley is on a bench downstage waiting for the the SCHOOLKID. (This can be the same kid who plays young Ben for double casting reasons, or not).

The kid walks in and gives Riley the next letter paper. Riley adds the letters to the riddle. We can use the same scrim projection deal to show the almost-finished puzzle. Super extra bonus points if we watch Riley erase part of it in time with the projections when the kid criticizes his handwriting.

Riley sends the kid in for the last letters.

He reads the end of the riddle to himself again and…

Riley jumps up and runs off stage. The lights go down on the bench and come up again on…

INT. CLOTHING STORE

Ben and Abigail come out of the changing rooms as Riley runs in with the next clue.

All of the same bits with the CASHIER, decoding the riddle, and daylight savings time.

The trio heads off to Independence Hall.

EXT. BENCH - DAY

Lights come back on the the bench and the kid comes out again looking for Riley. When he doesn’t see him, the kid walks part way across the stage looking for him, turns around…and walks right into Ian and the crew, who have taken Riley’s place.

They get the kid to give them the last four letters, and announce that they’re also heading to independence hall.

INT./EXT. INDEPENDENCE HALL - DAY

A NATIONAL PARK RANGER leads a tour group across the stage. Ben, Riley, and Abigail break off of it and climb up the scaffolding, which will now playing the role of Independence Hall. A bell has been raised above it.

They spot the shadow as Ian and co enter on stage level looking up at the hall. “Idiot.” “Who?” “Me. It’s not here. It’s there.”

↳ Also can we talk about Shaw’s reaction here? “Who?” It’s really encapsulates their dynamic.

Team Treasure climbs down while Ian and Shaw climb up, leaving the rest of the henchmen on the stage. Ben’s team heads to the signing room (downstage) while the other henchmen move around and accidentally miss them.

The blocking here should feel as close to a Scooby Doo doors sequence as is possible in real life.

INT. SIGNING ROOM - DAY

The set changes slightly so it’s clear we’re inside Independence Hall and the henchmen are outside. Ian and Shaw are still up in the belfry. Some old time-y desk push in from the edges.

Ben shows off the glasses and Riley and Abigail help him unroll the Declaration. When he gets to the bottom, Ben pauses.

SONG: In the Company/Great Company/Great Minds

“The last time this was here, it was being signed.”

Ben envisions the scene, with a little bit of context for how the convention was actually going. He elaborates on his thing about being in the same place as historical happenings and what it feels like for him.

We’ll use Patrick’s line from later in the movie about being in the company of some of the greatest minds in history by understanding what they left behind.

Abigail is charmed by this, and Riley is affectionately annoyed. There’s another tour coming.

Then Ben spots some of Ian’s crew out the window. The song shifts to more of a “we’ve got company, uh-oh” bent. Ben, Riley, and Abigail split up with the artifacts.

Ian and the henchmen get a verse as they split up to pursue. Their verse uses “we’ve got company” in the sense of “we’ve found them”/“we have eyes on them.”

The ensemble floods in as the crowd outside of Independence hall. Team Treasure acts cool until all at the same moment they break into a run. Powell and McGregor chase Ben off in one direction and Shaw and Shippen follow Riley and Abigail in the other.

INT. READING TERMINAL MARKET - DAY

Riley and Abigail run back onto the stage as shop counters and patrons move in—one row in back and one on each side to create an aisle. She beckons for him to follow but they get split up (one gets pulled in the wrong direction by the treadmill?).

Everyone is still singing btw.

Abigail jumps behind the meat counter, which is facing the audience. Everything FREEZES and the lights all focus on Abigail and the woman behind the counter.

I’d love to do that thing where this song stops the previous one cold and takes over, so:

END SONG

SONG: Stick Around

This song is trying to cover a lot of ground so let’s see if we can make it work.

It starts with MEAT LADY behind the counter looking at Abigail. She’s trying to decide whether to let Abigail stay or not.

Behind the counter, in the aisle of the market, Shaw is prowling and doing a creepy “here kitty” kind of thing with the idea of “stick around and find out”

Abigail—frightened by this—is starting to wonder why she is sticking around. For the Declaration, yes, but she’s literally holding it. Once they’re clear of the immediate danger she could turn it in. Not Ben necessarily, but this song will explore why she still wants to be a part of the treasure hunt.

We’ll also see what Riley is doing. I’m thinking some comedic shenanigans pretending to be part of different families/groups? In his part he’ll explain why he is sticking with Ben. Maybe we'll learn that his interest in conspiracy theories comes out of a desire to be part of something that matters. And with Ben and Ben's mission he feels like he matters.

Meat Lady tells off Shaw, who leaves. Abigail and Riley both reaffirm their decision to stick with Ben.

The lights come up, the crowd starts moving again, and Abigail runs back into the fray. She reunites with Riley and they run out. The market setting follows them as…

EXT. ROOFTOP - DAY

Ben backs onto the top catwalk, held at gunpoint by McGregor. Ben tries to reason with him, remind him they knew each other. Maybe a few extra lines about playing poker with the guys or whatever the crew did when Ben was with them.

Ben throws the document case and runs down the far staircase. McGregor sees that its empty and leaves in a huff.

EXT. STREET - DAY

Below, Riley and Abigail run through a crowd. Riley gets held up and Abigail gets knocked down.

She drops the Declaration case then dives after it. Riley pulls her back to the sound of a TRUCK HORN. Then the treadmill brings the case right to Ian’s feet.

Shaw and Shippen run in after them, but Ian lets Riley and Abigail go.

They call Ben, who comes from the other side of the stage, and tell him they lost it. Ben says to meet him at the car.

When Ben arrives at the car, Sadusky and his team are waiting. They arrest Ben.

Riley and Abigail backtrack before they can be spotted.

EXT. PARK - DAY

Riley and Abigail wonder what they’re going to do now.

SONG: One Step Short of Crazy (Abigail’s Reprise)

In this song, we get to see Abigail make the decision to call Ian and work with him to get Ben back, something she would never have dreamed she was capable of or willing to do 24 hours earlier.

But now she’s open to the idea of doing what’s considered wrong, in order to do what she knows is right.

We get to hear just the first few lines of their her and Ian’s conversation.

INT. FBI FIELD OFFICE - DAY

The FBI team drag Ben in and handcuff him to a desk. We get to see a little more of the interrogation here, because I think the way Ben chooses to summarize the story thus far is probably funny/interresting.

SONG: Door Number Three

Sadusky lays out for Ben that he has two options, Door Number 1 and Door Number 2.

When Ian calls Sadusky has a line like “Door Number 2 just called” or “Door Number 2 is closing.”

Ian—from an aside at the front of the stage—tells them to meet at the Intrepid.

I’d love an extra line or two about how Ian and crew plan to get there.

EXT. USS INTREPID - DAY

The ensemble is once again the crowd, with the FBI agents in plain clothes but distinguished by light cues as Sadusky does roll call so we can see where they are.

Ben enters and quips about the agents being spotted. Sadusky and Agent Johnson sit in a van at the back of the stage with headphones.

The helicopter interruption is accomplished with sound effects, light cues, and a big fan. Shaw enters and talks to Ben, but we can’t hear them, only static and:

→ What we do hear is Shaw reprising the line “2000 ways this could go wrong/but only one way it needs to go right”

The ensemble moves around in the chaos, misdirecting so Ben can slip off stage.

When the wind clears, Sadusky is asking if anyone sees Ben, and the FBI agents come forward to say no, they don’t.

Ben enters on the catwalk. Fishing. Bait. He tells Sadusky he’s found door number 3, and he’s taking it. Then BEN JUMPS OVER THE SIDE OF THE CATWALK.

END SONG

The easy version is that he jumps onto a platform concealed as part of the Intrepid set, so he jumps somewhere we can’t see only a few feet down and a SPLASH sound effect does the rest.

The $$$ version is that Ben is on wire from the time he enters on the catwalk, and he actually jumps from it. Maybe even some strobe light to make the fall feel slower/farther/more dramatic. Perfect pencil position of course.

EXT. UNDERWATER - DARK

The stage goes dark. SPLASH sound. Ben is FLOATING near the stage because he’s already on wires so why not.

McGregor “swims” up (also on wires), hands Ben scuba gear “under water” and they get pulled out by the wires as if by the little torpedo propulsion device.

EXT. USS INTREPID - DAY

The lights come back up with FBI agents looking over the edge of the catwalk. “You first.”

Agent Dawes can just be standing there to say “Sir, it’s the Hudson. Nothing is visible.”

EXT. NEW JERSEY DOCK - DAY

Ben and McGregor climb up from the trap door. New clothes. Had to guess your sizes.

The phone call between Ben and Abigail happens before they get into the car, because blocking.

The henchmen just kinda push Ben along to…

EXT. TRINITY CHURCH - DAY

Ian waits for them. He offers Ben the Declaration and the pipe in exchange for the treasure.

Ian: Oh Ben. You know the secret to running a convincing bluff? Every once in a while you’ve got to be hold all the cards.

SONG: All the Cards

Yes, Ian’s big Act 2 villain song will focus on the poker theme and the idea that he’s holding all the cards. Each time he says it, one of the henchmen will tow in another “card”—Patrick, Abigail, and Riley.

INT. TRINITY CHURCH - DAY

It will also take some time to explore Ian a little more. What makes him tick? He’s wants money, sure, but he’s planning to get it in a pretty wild way at the start of the movie (funding this crackpot treasure hunter).

The song will pause for Ben and Ian to examine the map. Same effect with the scrim showing what they’re seeing on the document. Ian orders everyone down to the basement.

Patrick and Ben will have a verse and they discuss how to keep the status quo or overturn it, also framed as a poker metaphor.

END SONG

They progress to the tunnel. Ian leaves two men behind and everyone else goes in the tunnel.

Characters will enter the tunnel in the middle of the stage. Ben pulls Abigail aside for the kiss here before they go inside, and this can buy some time for other actors to get where they need to be.

INT. STAIR CHAMBER - DAY

They reappear on the top level of scaffolding, walking trepidatiously across it.

Okay. Now we’ve come to the stairs sequence, and we have some choices to make as far as how we do this.

I have a personal broadway-related philosophy that I’m all for effects, but I don’t think that actors should also be expected to be acrobats, because it limits the pool of performers, makes the show less accessible to future lower budget productions, and most importantly endangers people unnecessarily.

That said, we have this scaffolding-like set that’s been on stage the whole time, as many a show does, and it sure would be pretty damn cool if it collapsed right now, right?

Not a lot but like one end of one of the catwalks drops a foot in one direction and the other in the other.

Two elevator platforms hang in front of them. Patrick, Ian, and Powell step from the lower catwalk to the lower elevator. Riley finds safety on the least collaps-y point of the set.

Ben and Abigail, however, are still on the top catwalk and have to go for to the higher elevator.

Remember what I said a second ago about not wanting to include acrobatics? well…this is fictional, after all, so…

Ben and Abigail are now on the same to wire rigs used for the Intrepid sequence. They jump onto the elevator, which lurches and tilts dramatically, leaving Abigail to hang off the end.

Ben drops her to safety before grabbing for the Declaration.

Oh and we just drop Shaw off into the wing curtains. Sorry. but we’re not using a big effect on him.

Ben gets to working elevator, which picks up Abigail and Riley and then descends to the stage while the broke one ascends into the fly, which, along with possibly a moving projectiony background create the illusion that we are moving down.

INT. ANTECHAMBER - DAY

Once we reach the bottom the scaffolding resets to signal that we’re on solid ground again.

The same deal here. Ben and Patrick fake a clue and Ian leaves them behind.

SONG: Treasure is a Myth

Ben apologizes to Riley. A joyful, victorious song barely gets going before—

INT. FALSE TREASURE ROOM - DAY

—it cuts off for a sad musical interlude as they step forward into the empty treasure room.

Everyone apologizes to Ben as he stands in the center of the stage dumbstruck (fake torch in hand).

Then Ben sings a heartbreaking reprise of “Treasure is a Myth” in which he concedes that his father was right. He wasted his life, his freedom, risked his friends lives all for something that everybody else already knew: the treasure is a myth.

Patrick tries to convince him otherwise, that by finding this room he has made a great accomplishment. “For your grandfather, and all of us.”

The ensemble member who is John Gates returns to pat Ben on the back and tell him he’s proud of him, that Ben accomplished more than he ever imagined. The Gates Family Ensemble returns one by one/couple by couple to tell Ben the same.

The family, led by Patrick, tries to get Ben not to give up on the hunt. Abigail is in.

Ben lists various times he thought he’d found something and decides he can’t do it again, that he can’t take another heartbreak.

↳ Yes, we are diverging slightly from the movie here, where Ben agrees pretty readily to keep searching. It’s a quick turnaround in the movie, but I think it works largely because of Nic Cage’s performance. Ben is genuinely crushed/empty/broken and even when he says yes he’ll keep going it’s clearly something that is hard for him to agree to.

On stage that nuance might not come across as well, so I like the idea of making this beat a little stronger by making Ben’s ‘all is lost’ moment a little longer. What if he had to truly give up before he solves the final puzzle?

END SONG

Riley reminds them that they’re all stuck. Where’s this second exit?

SONG: Charlotte’s Riddle (Reprise)

This isn’t a full song as much as a haunting line or two from the Charlotte voice as Ben examines the room.

END SONG

Ben: Could it really be that simple?

We make a nice production of ‘the secret lies with Charlotte.’ Ben’s a bit more vocal about what he’s seeing and doing, again because the details will be less visible.

When he pushes the button all the torches flicker as a door opens on the side of the stage with a nice stone sound effect.

One by one the characters enter, Ben last.

INT. TREASURE ROOM - DAY

The lights go dark.

Patrick, Abigail, Riley, and Ben enter one by one from the back of the stage. They start out in a halo of light that’s just around the four of them.

A spotlight illuminates the oil podium.

Ben says something profound about all the places the treasure has traveled and all of the hands it passed through (replacing/bolstering the beat with the medallion, which, again, might not read as clearly on stage.)

He touches his torch to the oil and holy shit, holy shit—

Channels of fire spread across the stage…

…and down through LED lighting strips that have been placed/taped/embedded along the aisles of the theater.

The familiar National Treasure score swells.

As the haze of warm light rises on the stage we can see that they are surrounded by treasure items—Egyptian sarcophagi, Chinese terracotta warriors, Greek marble columns and statues. Piles and piles of treasure.

They look out on us, the audience, who form the rest of the treasure cavern, and cheer.

↳ I think it’s important the the treasure room reveal happens all at once because the rest of the cavern won’t read that impressively on its own. Instead we’ll use the stage’s unique relationship to light/dark/spotlight to achieve the reveal.

↳ Option to have the Gates Family Chorus lining the scaffolding, maybe doing some choral harmonies to the score.

Riley has his Bluish-green man moment.

Abigail geeks out over her scrolls.

Ben and Patrick share a more direct moment of celebration. (to bolster the arms on each other’s backs)

Riley: Look. Stairs.

Added beat: they discuss that they’re ready to head up to the surface and face whatever consequences await.

INT. TRINITY CHURCH - DAY

Ben emerges from the tunnel mouth and calls Sadusky on his cell phone.

Sadusky and the FBI swarm in. Agents in FBI windbreakers help the others out of the tunnel as Sadusky slowly, ominously approaches Ben.

Ben offers up the Declaration. Not a bargaining chip.

SONG: Just Like That/Finale

Ben lists his requests.

The theme here is “it belongs to the world” and the idea that the treasure is bigger than any of them.

Everyone states what they got out of the treasure hunt. Ben got validation. Abigail got adventure. Riley got to be part of something. Patrick got his son back.

Armed guards come to take the Declaration to the National Archives NYC branch, and then back to D.C.. Abigail is welcome to come.

Before she leaves she goes up to Ben and they decide to get a cup of coffee after this is all over.

Riley pats Ben on the back.

Sadusky comes in to spoil the mood because someone has to go to prison. Ben offers up Ian instead. The FBI arrests Ian and the gang.

What now? Everything is about to change. But not the things that matter. Bla bla, the power of friendship; maybe the real treasure was the friends/found family/polycule we make along the way.

The score swells and we end on a big triumphant chorus.

Meg (The villian in riley 10 Au)

It's a bit confusing but I'll explain

riley 10 is an au made by me and 2 other friends from Instagram, she is obviously a mix of inside out 2 + ben 10

The story revolves around Riley Anderson who, on a camping trip with her parents, went out to investigate a supposed sound she heard outside and ended up finding the emotional omnitrix that made her transform into emotions (her own emotions, of course).

Now at 13 years old, Riley will deal with several villains in San Francisco and will have to deal with the controversies that will happen in her life and obviously her emotions (Joy, Anger, Disgust, Fear, Sadness, Axienty, Ennui, envy and embarrassment) will have to deal with this.

This art is one of the examples of some of the many iconic villains in Riley 10! Do you remember that red-haired friend of Riley's from the first movie? So we didn't forget her in Riley 10! Her canonically name is Meg!

BRIDGET RILEY

first, before i go absolutely batshit unhinged about national treasure, i went "aww" being addressed as "beloved on the dash." truly an esteemed title among tumblrinas.

now back to business. ur professor is so fucking correct it's such a silly feel good heist movie. and as i have discussed with my sister i am fully aware that it's something i can enjoy with very little complication bc i am both white and american but at least the first is a bit less like that than the second. all the characters have a boner for america or whatever just be aware but sometimes i'm like damn i wish i lived in whatever fantasy america ben gates believes in bc that sure isn't the one we have here. (if nothing else his speech to the president in book of secrets is good for a laugh especially in a post 2016 america BUT I DIGRESS) okay now that that's out of the way. it's such a wonderful movie. it's batshit unhinged you have nicolas cage playing a little freak who knows way way way too much about american history who looks like he's having a midlife crisis to everyone who doesn't know him and also those who do but actually he's just Like That. he's the fox mulder of treasure hunters with his emotional support nerd and they steal the fucking declaration of independence like. i feel like that alone should convince anyone who even knows what the declaration of independence is to watch it. it's fucking hilarious. they're stealing one of their country's most important/famous historical documents to keep some OTHER british guys from stealing it because there's a treasure map (A TREASURE MAP!!!) on the back. have you ever heard of a more ridiculously delightful premise. i wish every movie was like this.

plus the chemistry is great idk how they pulled that off but i wanna watch these idiots argue for hours. they're all so fucking snarky but in a fun way not in a "i am this year's 928474th marvel movie and i'm incapable of being genuine for even 2 seconds" way. and btw it's stupidly earnest about caring about history and wanting to share it with the world despite its flaws and i can't help it i'm charmed. AND as i've yelled about AT LENGHT it has in my opinion if not hte most iconic at LEAST the most gorgeous score. what the fuck was trevor rabin on in 2004. and also in 2007 for book of secrets. that dude is a musical genius.

it's as quotable as the princess bride (to me, anyway) and like idk man it's genuinely funny and absolutely ridiculous and it knows it's ridiculous and embraces that. and i love that.

i watched the entire show for one episode him. you know those characters that like you interact with as a child and they alter your entire chemical makeup for the rest of you life? he's one of those for me. that is the best (or perhaps the worst depending on how you feel about me) endorsement i can offer.

Interpersonal Aftermath, Abigail and Patrick Edition

Ben and Patrick | Ben and Abigail | Ben and Riley | Riley and Abigail

"I don’t think there’s whole articles worth of material here (I hope) but let’s spend a few minutes with each these."

My dumb ass really did think I was going to fit three different duos into this article and be done with this little series because there "wasn't much to say" about them.

I have found some things to say.

So anyway, now we get into the tertiary relationships. These are duos that don't directly interact much in the movie, but will find themselves increasingly in each others' orbits at the post-movie relationships progress.

Abigail and Patrick

Abigail and Patrick have an interesting dynamic because although they don’t interact on screen very much, their positions relative to Ben also put them in relationship with each other, and they have pretty far to go between the events of the film and the months after the treasure is found.

Patrick and Abigail’s meeting is both iconic (in the National Treasure loving world anyway) and pretty hostile.

PATRICK Is she pregnant? BEN Well, if she is, are you gonna leave the woman carrying your grandchild standing out in the cold? ABIGAIL (to Riley) I look pregnant?

Granted, that hostility is directed toward Ben, and Abigail just happens to be caught in the crossfire.

Patrick’s first assumptions about Abigail are that:

she’s some floozy Ben got involved with (bad)

she’s a fellow treasure hunter (worse)

He might soften towards her a little when he learns that she doesn’t actually want to be here.

PATRICK And he dragged you two into this nonsense? ABIGAIL Literally.

However, it’s like three minutes of screen time later when Abigail makes the decision to actively involve herself in the treasure hunt (which she does by insisting that she be the one to put lemon juice on the Declaration).

Patrick is mostly focused on Ben and the fact that his son has gone from ‘ruined his life treasure hunting’ to Ruined His Life Treasure Hunting™. But Abigail is there and she is involved and he probably doesn’t need any more that that to dislike her.

Abigail, for her part, gets kidnapped, flung from a speeding van, and semi-re-kidnapped before insisting she come along to make sure these clowns don’t destroy a priceless artifact and now the guy who she was kinda flirting with before she knew he was trying to rob her museum’s dad is yelling at her? I mean he’s not yelling. He’s not even talking to her directly, but the disappointment is palpable. She just stepped in the middle of what’s clearly a big family drama and she can’t help but feel she’s on the wrong side of it, no matter where she positions herself.

And obviously Patrick’s comment is weird enough that she makes a point to ask Ben about it later.

So the footing their start out on is not exactly great.

They survive the Trinity stair sequence together, and there’s nothing like shared trauma to bond a squad, but they’re really both bonding with Ben, not each other. As we discussed in the Ben and Patrick and Ben and Abigail articles, these two relationships are the emotional pivots that a lot of the movie hinges on.

As Ben and Abigail get closer, Abigail and Patrick are going to have to get over the hurdle of awkwardness they started out on. Patrick especially has some biases to overcome about Abigail. Of course, all he has to do is talk to her for a few minutes to see that she is basically the opposite of the person he thought she was when she showed up at his door:

not a floozy

not a treasure hunter

not just a fling for Ben

not just enamored with Ben’s Indiana Jones shtick*

(*Patrick would know, he’s was Ben before Ben was)

Actually, pretty must as soon as they start talking Abigail and Patrick realize they have a lot in common. They could debate Revolutionary War history until even Ben gets bored. Abigail and Patrick both have a taste for the detail and nuance in a way that Ben doesn’t. Or, I should say, in a different way than Ben does.

Ben is necessarily obsessive about details relating to the treasure, but I don’t see him being quite as detail-oriented with topics that don’t touch the treasure. Ben is a big picture person. He sees the connections between disparate events and people, the threads that tie it all together. Abigail, and Patrick in his post-treasure hunting years, are more depth people. They can focus in on a very specific topic not because it connects to something else, but simply because it interests them.

Ben, for example, would probably not read a 400 page book about 18th century textiles cover to cover if he didn’t anticipate some kind of connection to the treasure. Abigail absolutely would and has read several 400 page books about 18th century textiles cover to cover long before she knew the treasure existed.

However, the question is, when do Abigail and Patrick have that first conversation?

I imagine it’s not right away. Too much is going on with the treasure and with both of them re/building their relationships with Ben. So that awkwardness between them festers for a little too long. It isn’t until after a few museum exhibit openings and more than a few uncomfortable non-conversations when they actually start talking to each other.

By the time Ben and Abigail start officially dating a few months later though, I imagine Patrick is Team Abigail all the way.

And, though I do love to ignore the existence of Book of Secrets, I do like how much Patrick is still on Team Abigail after the breakup.

BEN Temporary till I find a new place. PATRICK Find the old one. I like her.

He can tell that Ben's being an idiot. Everyone can tell that Ben's being an idiot.

To be clear, this is not listed in order of importance to me, because I couldn't ever declare a favorite character, but this is just listed as they came to mind. XD

1. Loki (MCU)

this loser ^ has become a central part of my personality and I hope he regrets that. It's kind of hard for me to put down into words how much he means to me. He's like my best friend, honestly. If I regularly beat up and tortured my friends. Putting him and Thor together and wrestling through their emotional mess has been one of the best parts of my life. Jokes aside, I can honestly say that Loki has saved my life in more ways than one, so I owe him a lot. Even with all my frustrations with MCU in general, and my waning desire to write fics for MCU, he's always going to be important to me. <3

2. Riley Poole (National Treasure)

I think I was like...er, six months old when the first movie came out? but I re-discovered my love for these films when I was 17-18? and they've become a stable comfort for me. I've been extremely stressed the last few days, and I think I've had the second movie playing on repeat in the background for hours and hours. I think I've seen it six (?) times in the last three days. Anyway, Riley is just so tired, hopeless, and grumpy and I adore sarcastic characters that are actually way more important to the plot than they first appear to be. And, honestly, I am a sucker for found families, and the fact that everyone refers to Riley as Ben's family in the second movie just makes me want to bite something because THEY ARE FAMILY. I want to write a fic for National Treasure so badly, lol. Riley is me in an action film. He's like if a smol Tony Stark got adopted by a historian.

3. Ahkmenrah (Night At the Museum)

AHK.MEN.RAH. dude I am obsessed with this man. I adore him. I can't even express how much I adore him. He's just so soft and kind even though everyone is terrible to him. He's got a core of steal and has no social aptitude, communicating in a language that's thousands of years older than his, a golden child that got murdered by his brother, and the tablet his parents made him have trapped everyone in a cycle of rebirth for thousands of years and---Ahkmenrah greatly deserved to be further explored in the NATM series. Fun fact though -- to this day, I'm absolutely terrified of dinosaurs, and when I saw this for the first time when I was like (6?), it traumatized me so badly I couldn't watch it again until I was like 15. For the entirety of my childhood I considered this, a comedy, to be a horror film. I also want to write so many fics for NATM, and I have this glorious one with him and Kahmunrah that has existed in my head for years now and I should just write. I also based one of my ocs off him so hard, lol.

4. Nancy Drew (CBS Nancy Drew)

my 18th year of life was absolutely terrible, and I say that with confidence, and Nancy Drew was a saving grace to me. I initially didn't like that they made it more of a SPN knock off than stayed true to the books (of which I have read all of them, so I know of what I speak, Bess and George are cousins and besties, okay?), but this Nancy is just so beautiful to watch. She's an extremely well-written character with flaws and failures, but a core of steel, loyal to a fault, and her desire to help gets her into so much trouble. Watching her overcome her adoption/sort of kidnapping and grow close to the Drew Crew andRyan was wonderful. I could talk about this show forever. Season 2 supremacy. Also the writers are absolutely iconic in that they never gave us Ace's last name in canon because they didn't want to get sued by the Hardy Boys franchise.

5. Joan Watson (CBS Elementary)

This woman is like my sister and my mother all wrapped into one, lol. I started watching Elementary in s6, and I was going through a lot of family problems at the time, and I remember looking at Joan and going, man, I want to be like her. I had lots of examples of people I didn't want to be like, but Joan was this steady presence. the way that she treated Sherlock and the people around her, with never ending kindness and support, was just really, really nice to see. Like, I love Sherlock in this adaption, but Joan means as much to me as Loki does. She's just such a beautifully written character and I adore watching her beat people up.

6. Katniss Everdeen

In charge of keeping sister alive ✅

lived through multiple life and death situations where someone's life was in your hands ✅

ptsd ✅

Katniss is me, lol. No, but for real, she is one of the best characters I have ever seen, and she is the best depiction of actual PTSD in a fictional person. It was so, so relieving to see someone struggle through the same crap I have and to know that she came out the other end okay eventually.

7. Hiccup Haddock (How to Train Your Dragon)

without httyd, i wouldn't be a writer. The first fic I ever read was for httyd, which eventually led me to wanting to write some myself and flash forward and here we are. I also owe my life to this franchise, and I think I internalized Hiccup into my personality, or at least downloaded like 90% of it, because holy crap he and I have exactly the same sense of dry humor. He's just...such a good protagonist. I think that they really poked and cracked him open in Race to the Edge and it was really fun to explore new sides to him.

8. Sokka (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

I couldn't stand Sokka at first, lol, but he grew on me. I STILL don't think he's very funny, but I love studying him like a specimen trapped beneath a microscope. He has one of the best arcs in the show. Like yes, yes, we can talk about Zuko forever, I can talk about Zuko forever, but SOKKA. My boy SOKKA deserves an equal amount of poking. He has anxiety. He's depressed. He tried to leave someone for dead, once. He copes by eating and cracking jokes. He's important to the characters becuase the only one with a freaking brain cell, what the heck MS. I'm-going-fight-a-bender-with-fifty-years-of-experience-on-me-Katara? ???

9. Neal Caffery (White Collar)

Peter Burke was right, though, because the hat is stupid. I think I've got a thing for smart men that do crime because like half the people on this list are that. No, wait I've definitely just got a thing for smart people who do crime. (crime anything my beloved, tbh, a movie/tv series says someone will commit a crime and I am THERE) Anyway, Neal is an interesting character to poke at and I adore the fics for this fandom. While the show frustrates me on a level that's hard to describe in any language, I will take this helpless crime boi and run. Also watching him and Mozzie interact is one of the greatest things on this planet. He's just so genuine and kind and his charisma are used (mostly) for good, which is so nice.

10. Wen Kexing (Word of Honor)

I named a character in my og series off of this man. I adore him. Committing crimes. Childhood trauma. Revenge fantasy. Murderous. Parentified child. Smart. Gay. Line between sister and daughter is so blurred it's impossible to tell. SO MUCH CRIME. He deserves to (and does) get away with murder. He is literally "i show up where you are and act like it's a coincidence because I don't know how to make friends" personified. I wish that I understood the native language of this show. I want nothing more than to understand without english subs. Amazing performance from the actor. The CGI in this show is so awkward it makes me want to tear out my eyes. *happy sigh*

1. Loki (MCU)

As much as I love everyone on this list, there is absolutely no competition for number 1. Loki has been my favourite character of all time for nearly 6 years now (because clearly the best time to join someone's fandom is after they've just been murdered), and is showing absolutely no signs of being replaced anytime soon. I have a Loki blog, for god's sake. The brodinsons are my favourite relationship in any kind of media, ever. I love them so, so much. Loki's a million different things and feelings, all at the same time, all fighting with each other, which makes for a wonderfully complex and nuanced character. Also, he's hilarious. Look at that eye roll. This is a man who hates his life, which makes me feel better about mine. Thanks, Loki.

2. Klaus Hargreeves (The Umbrella Academy)

As will become obvious throughout this list, I love me an emotionally traumatised crazy person. Klaus is that. One of the characters who makes me laugh the most, ever, show-stopping dress sense, and a bucketload of unresolved trauma which goes largely ignored by Klaus, the other characters and the narrative itself? It was love at first sight. Their banter with the other characters, especially Ghost Ben (rip) is one of my favourite aspects of the show. Here's to hoping that Klaus won't be getting the Allison treatment in season 4!

3. Pippa Fitz-Amobi (A Good Girl's Guide to Murder)

I binge-read the entire AGGTM series earlier this year, and instantly fell in love with it. Pip is one of my favourite protagonists ever. Impossibly clever, compassionate, obsessive, badass, and a teensy bit unhinged. What's not to love? I would die for her. I'd say that I'd kill for her, but I think she's got that covered. I think she's written in a very realistic way, firstly as a genius 17 year old girl who doesn't really know what she's getting into, and later as a haunted individual who wants to stop investigating but can't. The way she politely knocks on people's front doors to dig up their traumas, accuse them of murder and all-round ruin their lives is everything to me. She is my blorbo. I am so, so excited for the show to come out, and I'm sure that Emma Myers will do a wonderful job as Pip!

4. Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games)

One of the best-written characters, in one of the best-written series ever. Reading from her perspective is such a delight- she's endlessly suspicious of everyone around her, constantly on survival mode, trusting very few people and relying on exactly no one (to begin with, at least). She's a random teenage girl, from the poorest district, and she wins the Hunger Games. She's so mentally unstable that she has to be sedated, and still she's made to be the face of a rebellion. She's rude, and kind of unlikeable. She adopts all the weakest tributes, at risk to herself, knowing that they won't win. She's doomed to fail by the narrative. She's the it girl of 2010s dystopian YA fiction. Jennifer Lawrence is an amazing actress, who does a beautiful job portraying the depth and conflict of Katniss in the films. The themes and social commentary of the Hunger Games is one of its (many) strong points, and I am so so glad that people are talking about it again, because it is my favourite book series out there.

5. Mitchell Pritchett (Modern Family)

I have no idea what to say about this man, I just love him. He just like me fr. What an icon. Impeccable music taste. I've started saying, "no my god" now, and nobody understands what I'm talking about. Even in a sitcom, my favourite is the one with issues that he refuses to talk about or fix. The episode where he's trying to hide that he dressed up as spiderman makes me cry-laugh. Claire's speech at his wedding makes me just cry. He's not a perfect man, but he's certainly better than everyone else.

6. Shin Tsukimi (Your Turn to Die)

My favourite cringefail loser! I said Katniss was doomed by the narrative in a metaphorical way. This idiot is actually doomed.

No but in all seriousness, I do really love him. Before the beginning of the game, he was just a relatively normal young man- but, when confronted with the inevitability of his own death, he made himself into a monster to survive. He has a violent vendetta against the local badass teenage girl, who is traumatised as hell already and does not need Shin chipping in as well, thank you very much. I love his relationship with Kanna, his biological sister; how he uses her, manipulates her, and still cares for her so much that he dies for her with a smile on his face in the Emotion route. Conversely, in the Logic route, his actions are a direct cause of her death, and I just love how much YTTD hates siblings. I hope that his past with Midori is explored more in either a mini-episode or the final part of the game, because I find it sooo interesting. I'm super excited to see whether he actually has no chance of survival, or whether he makes it out, against the odds, on one of the routes. He's a bit useless, so I won't get my hopes up.

7. Rue Bennett (Euphoria)

I think it goes without saying that Euphoria has its issues, lol. Sam Levinson is an idiot. While a lot of the show (especially season 2) feels shallow and like it doesn't care about its characters, Rue's storylines always have heart and depth and I am so invested in her arc. It's no wonder that Zendaya won 2 Emmys for this role, because her acting is phenomenal! Rue feels so real to me, in the way that she's trying so hard to stay sober but she falls down and relapses time and time again. Recovery isn't linear, but she's getting there, and I adore her with all my heart. Her relationships with Lexi, her mother, her sister, and her sponsor, Ali, are my favourites, and the healthiest for her, in my opinion. Her brief friendship/ romance with Jules may have kept her more solidly sober than anything else in the show, but Jules (understandably) cracks under the pressure of Rue's mental health, and can't be there for her. Rue needs to heal for herself, which she appears to be doing at the end of S2.

8. Max Mayfield (Stranger Things)

Duffer brothers, please just let her be happy.

Despite only being introduced in Season 2, Max has, in my opinion, had the best character development out of everyone on the show. Her growth from someone standoffish, rude, and uninterested in the group (maybe I'm being a bit harsh. She was, like, 12) to someone who is willing to risk her life to help her friends and Hawkins means so much to me. The scene in "Dear Billy" (S4, Ep4) where she escapes from Vecna remains my favourite in the whole show and will probably be burned into my brain forever. Her relationships with Lucas and El are very sweet, and some of my favourites in Stranger Things. Her final line in S4, after all her struggles over the season, being that she doesn't want to die literally breaks my heart. I hope she gets some degree of a happy ending in the final season. She was my first profile picture when I joined this hellsite, and I love her a lot.

9. Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables)

The shenanigans that this girl gets up to never fail to make me laugh. The bit where she accidentally dyes her hair green and then has to hack it all off makes me feel awful for her, but. it's hilarious. Sorry, Anne. Her friendship with Diana is so sweet but also so funny to me because they really are the most chaotic duo of the 1880s. The scene where Anne accidentally gives her alcohol instead of fruit juice is so mortifying but so, so funny. Amidst all of the insane situations that Anne gets into are a lot of really heartwarming moments and relationships. Matthew and Marilla adopting Anne, even though they wanted a boy, because she's so endearing and alone in the world is probably what made me who I am today. I still haven't gotten around to watching Anne with an E, but I've heard it's amazing. I look forward to watching it when I have the time :).

10. Daphne Blake (Scooby Doo)

My first ever favourite character! Another one who I don't have a tonne to say about. She's an icon, she's a legend, and she is the moment. She has done nothing wrong, ever. She knows martial arts, so watch out.
