beijing is a crowded place and always has been / the sort of place where someone can disappear with ease / the sort of place where faces become blurred and no one has distinct features, anymore —— it's been a long while since he's lived here, since he was a boy ; everything lacks familiarity. everything about the city, that is / how is it that he's been convinced to make this trip, again?
oh, right : cheng xiaoshi.
isn't that the answer to everything, these days?
( don't think too hard about, don't peer too close, don't, do not, it's better for everyone if you maintain your distance like you always do and yet —— idiot. not often you call yourself that, hm?)
touristy stuff is par for the course visiting a new place / not that this is a new place to lu guang, but it's relatively new to cheng xiaoshi and years and different experiences and @fumalsamakah have worn away that old awareness and the FORBIDDEN CITY is a must—see ( ... ) apparently. cheng xiaoshi always seems to meld seemlessly anywhere he goes, body language languid and easy and perhaps people envy him for that —— lu guang finds that he envies their surroundings for beholding them, far moreso than cheng xiaoshi, himself.
he could watch him for hours / days / ages / wondrous and wonderful and it's worth it, traveling with him. many things are worth it with him. ❝ a picture will last longer, ❞ fully sardonic, acutely aware of irony for the sake of it as he continues sticking to the shadows, knowing full well that the sun will turn him bright red within moments if he were to give her a chance. for a moment it feels like the muscles of his face want to smile, and he cal feel his mouth tremor for a moment before settling again. neutral but vaguely fond ( only, only for cheng xiaoshi ) and he adds, quietly, ❝ mmm ( ... ) and qiao ling wanted some pictures. ❞
#LU GUANG,in char.#fumalsamakah#fumalsamakah : cheng xiaoshi.#beijing trip :)#also idk what this is i [hand wave ] tried?

If you no longer live in the Ukraine (understandably with all that's going on) what country do you live in?
(No pressure to answer, just curious. We have quite a few people taking refuge in the country I'm from so I was wondering if you live there lol)
I'm in Canada! we moved to Canada when I was 3, but my parents didnt really plan on staying long (the plan was 2-3 years, it has been 20), or maybe they didn't know how to love Canada, so they taught me to love home and brought me back to Kyiv as often and for as long as possible, all my summers (so most of the bright memories of my childhood) and even a whole school year once :) I didn't turn out Canadian enough to want to stay, anyway
(P.S. style guidelines have changed - it's just "Ukraine" in English, not "the Ukraine"!)
#replies#no harm in it if it's just out of ignorance & the difference is slight but to us it's like. being called yugoslavian lol bit outdated#viewed in isolation i have a lot of admiration for beijing allegedly threatening to kick out the Times if they didnt stop writing peking#again: in isolation; as a petty way of enforcing the correct name for a place. poor belarus is still getting 'byelorussia'd left and right#anyhow i spent a lot of time worrying i wasnt ukrainian enough to come back; the unexpected 1mo grandma trip this year quelled my fears#a lot more of me is from UA than i assumed and there's less internal overlap with my closest canadian friends than i thought in some ways

Almost impossible to pick between Chinese and Indian because there’s so much variety that it’s borderline ludicrous to categorise them as one national cuisine. But, much as I’d mourn every day for lack of Chinese food, I am by overwhelming majority an Indo-European and my soul would wither without dairy products.
(if I missed any popular ones, apologies, I was just looking at the most common ones to have restaurants by skimming those in the area)
#I once spent two hours (round trip) crossing Beijing to get to the foreigner district so I could buy a big block of cheddar cheese#I need it#food#polls

The Qin First Emperor's wall stretched for two thousand miles, costing (according to legend, anyway) one laborer's life for every yard built.*
*The Qin Great Wall is not the iconic stone barrier you can visit on day trips from Beijing (that one dates mostly to the sixteenth century CE). Nor is it your that the Great Wall can be seen from orbiting spacecraft, let alone from the moon.

A Modern City # Shanghai 上海 - China
If you think that Beijing has a lot of culture, than it’s really different with Shanghai. Once we arrived at Shanghai, we can see a lot of high buildings along the road. Our first destination is Yuyuan 豫园 / Yu Garden. The traditional building in the middle of the high buildings. Here we can enjoy Shanghai Culinary and the most delicious Xiao Long Bao 小笼包 in Shanghai. And or course other…

April 20, Beijing, China, National Museum of China/中国国家博物馆 (Part 1 - Dehua white porcelain exhibition/德化白瓷展):
Aaand finally, the National Museum of China/中国国家博物馆! I was lucky enough to see the famed Dehua white porcelain exhibition/德化白瓷展 here. Some of you may recognize some of these pieces already, since pictures and shorts of them have been circulating online way before I went on this trip, but there are many many other pieces too. The pieces I post here are only a small portion of the entire exhibition, so if you ever get a chance to see the exhibition elsewhere in person, don't hesitate. This stuff is amazing.
First up is one of the two that has been gaining popularity online, the piece named 神话 or "Legend".
The first time I saw a porcelain piece like this, I thought that the clothing part was made with paper? But no, the light fabric of the clothing, the hair, it's all porcelain. Keep in mind when looking through these pictures: every part of every piece is porcelain.
This piece is the other one that was becoming popular, the piece named simply 纸, or "Paper". If you don't look up close and see the glossy surface, you can't tell it's actually porcelain. I cannot for the life of me imagine the kind of magic that was used to turn clay into this
Anyway, this is a good point to introduce Dehua porcelain a little bit. Dehua porcelain is a regional specialty of Dehua/德化, which is located in Fujian province, and is known for its expressiveness and white color. For this reason it's also known in the West as "Blanc de Chine" (French: "white of China"), and this should be the reason why this exhibition is named 中国白, which basically means the same thing. The history of Dehua porcelain goes back to Song dynasty (960 - 1279), and it is still being produced today. Many of the pieces I'm posting here are modern pieces.
But Dehua white porcelain can be colored too (I imagine the color must be painted on later, because the white comes from the clay itself), and when it is colored, it looks like it came right out of a painting
This piece is especially amazing to me. Look at the texture, look at those details. Zoom in and you will find that there are actually a bunch of porcelain ants on this porcelain tree stump. Porcelain ants. I never expected to use porcelain as an adjective when describing ants. Wtf. It's like a manifestation of a scene from an older animated movie.
Peanuts are called 花生 in Chinese, which literally means "flower grow", and because it also has a long shelf life, it symbolizes longevity and a happy marriage. Also a fun fact: because Watson of Sherlock Holmes is usually phoenetically translated as 华生 (huá shēng) in Chinese and sounds similar to 花生 (huā shēng), you will find that many in the Chinese SH fandom refers to Watson as "peanut".
This piece is titled 春色满园, or "garden filled with spring scenery". This is also a common 4-character word used to describe gardens in spring. I'm guessing the figure depicted here is one of the flower gods. It is one of my personal favorites because of its superb depiction of movement, it's as if the flower god will really fly away on clouds at any moment
More depictions of traditional Chinese deities, specifically Chang'e/嫦娥, the moon goddess. That moon rabbit is too cute.
Depictions of what I'm assuming is the Four Heavenly Kings/四大天王, based on the items they are holding. The Four Heavenly Kings are Buddhist deities.
Look at her clothing! That porcelain is so thin it's almost see-through! Also is it depicting Li Qingzhao/李清照, the famous female poet from Song dynasty? She does have a famous ci poem that's about paddling a boat in a lake full of lotuses while drunk
The piece titled 锦绣前程, or "future as vibrant and prosperous as silk brocade". This is also a common 4-character word used in well wishing. The figure in this piece is holding a xiuqiu/绣球, a ball made of silk, which was usually seen as a token of love
Somewhat more modern-themed pieces:
Among the hundreds of amazing pieces, this one caught my attention for its unique texture. When everyone else was trying to turn the clay into these thin sheets representing fabric or paper or flower petals, this artist took the noodle approach. Not many visitors seemed to like it, but I think it's pretty cool
Piece titled 运势如虹, or "fortune like the rainbow", also a 4-character word used in well wishing. Traditionally horses symbolize vitality and success, hence why many people use the words 马到成功 ("horse's arrival brings success") and 龙马精神 ("vitality of dragons and horses") in well wishes during Year of the Horse
Stay tuned for Part 2 of the Dehua white porcelain exhibition!

Discovering China: My Experience with the 144-Hour Visa-Free Transit Policy
As a traveler always on the lookout for new adventures, I recently embarked on a journey to China that exceeded all my expectations. With the country's 144-hour visa-free transit policy in place, I felt an irresistible urge to explore this vast and vibrant nation without the usual visa hassles. Little did I know that this trip would not only broaden my horizons but also allow me to experience the warmth and hospitality of the Chinese people firsthand.
Arriving in Beijing, I was immediately struck by the city's unique blend of ancient history and modern innovation. As I stood before the Great Wall, marveling at its grandeur, I couldn't help but feel a deep connection to the history that unfolded there. The process of entering the country was seamless; I simply presented my passport, boarding pass, and a carefully crafted itinerary showing my plans for the next six days. The immigration officers were friendly, and I felt a wave of excitement as I stepped into this new world.
With my 144-hour visa-free transit in hand, I decided to explore Beijing and then head to Shanghai. The public transportation system was incredibly efficient, making it easy to navigate from one landmark to another. I hopped on the subway and found myself amidst locals and fellow travelers, all sharing the same sense of wonder.
In Beijing, I was eager to try the renowned Peking Duck. I ventured to Quanjude, a famous restaurant, and indulged in the crispy skin and tender meat, savoring every bite. Wandering through Wangfujing, the bustling shopping street, I tasted local snacks that ranged from candied fruits to exotic street foods. Each encounter with the locals left me with a warm feeling, and their eagerness to help made me feel right at home.
After soaking up the historical sites and cultural experiences in Beijing, I boarded a high-speed train to Shanghai. The ride was smooth and fast—truly a testament to China's advanced infrastructure. As I arrived in Shanghai, the skyline took my breath away. Standing by the Bund, I marveled at the juxtaposition of old and new, where colonial architecture meets futuristic skyscrapers.
In Shanghai, I found myself enchanted by the Yu Garden, where I strolled through beautiful rockeries and tranquil ponds. It was the perfect escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Of course, I couldn’t leave without trying Xiaolongbao—soup dumplings that burst with flavor! Dining at Din Tai Fung was a highlight of my trip, and I can still taste the delightful experience.
Reflecting on my journey, I realized that the 144-hour visa-free transit policy is a fantastic opportunity for travelers to immerse themselves in the beauty of China without the lengthy visa application process. This experience has ignited a passion in me to return and explore more of what this incredible country has to offer.
If you’re contemplating a trip to China, I wholeheartedly encourage you to take advantage of this policy. With a little preparation—such as booking accommodations in advance and having your itinerary ready—you can create unforgettable memories. China awaits with open arms, ready to share its rich history, modern marvels, and the kindness of its people. Trust me; it’s an adventure you won’t want to miss!

I saw your blind reader post and hear me out, Toph Beijing reader? Like they neglected them and didn’t realize that reader was an earth bender (and one of the best at that). I don’t know just some food for thought! I really love your work by the way!
The main inspo was actually Toph!! But I asked myself what if Toph was never founded by team avatar. Also the main difference between Toph and blind!reader is that reader is far far far more bratty compared to Toph (suprise2x).
Blind!Reader is the type who only founded being a Earthbender by tripping themselves 3 times and complained to alfred about it. (Alfred is confused about the dents around the garden and manor) , and Blind!Reader's bending style would actually be more similar with fire bending because of her lack of control and repressed unadulterated rage of being babied.
Their unique style of bending actually sky rocket them to being one of the best, even with their distructive tendency , Bruce would be like Toph's dad (obvi) and be far more Denial about your mutant abilities . Alfred would be stress 100% he is losing hair about it since in his eyes you were more like glass than human. Absolute becomes more over bearing to the max same with Dick grayson , your older brother is trying to puzzle the pieces with your bending and how much it's turning you to be more aggressive and hostille it's like seeing his kid self again.
