"Whatever is the matter, Beef? Does my elote no longer satisfy?" asked the Cornservant.

Beef made to respond, but opted instead to mind his manners and finish chewing first.

"No! Speak not," the Cornservant suddenly exclaimed, "for I know what you intend to say - you've questions, and naught can satiate the hunger save for answers... correct?"

Hesitantly, (and with his mouth still full) Beef nodded.

"Doubtless you wish to understand why it falls to you to sow the seeds of fullness in heart and stomach across the land..."

More accurately, Beef wondered why nobody else could see or hear the Cornservant, but what it was saying seemed more or less along those lines.

"My dear champion, there are no doubt many reasons why you were chosen for such a task. It may be that by your moniker, you represent the missing staple of our little diet - as naturally as a protein accompanies a tortilla." The Cornservant bounced thoughtfully, swaddled in silk as it was. "Or perhaps what makes you special is that you chose to go against the grain - to lend this humble cob your ear as readily as you would lend the people these ears of mine."

Beef stopped chewing and frowned. He wasn't sure if any of this was helping.

"I realize that the nature of our alliance may confuse you, but I assure you, you are a true child of the corn, and we shall navigate this maze together." The Cornservant gave Beef a dubiously reassuring pat on the leg, for it was all it could reach. "Now, might I offer you the smallest morsel of wisdom? A mere kernel of truth with which to whet your appetite?"

The Cornservant made Beef wait a few dramatic moments for its golden enlightenment.

"A cob can be grilled either within or without its husk. Only by sampling both methods can you discover which one you prefer..."

With its corny lesson dispensed, the Cornservant spun round and returned to stalking Beef from the shadows.

since the benchmark didnt work on my pc i figured id have to get a new graphics card. cause the actual game wasnt loading and crashed on startup lol. but thanks to the guy on the sqe forums who had a fix from reddit. that worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so here's some photos of renaud since its been five thousand years since i last posted screenshots. and i want to chew on his ears. ok bye

🌟 for Beef and either of the girls....................

🌟 Aoife’s dad was an U tribe Tia, and at some point he told his daughters about a Lalafell being adopted and given a tribe name. Aoife absolutely wrote it off as a tall tale at the time, but if she ever met Beef and learned that it was true, she’d probably almost pass out in indignation from her father being right about something.

(After which she’d buy Beef food to make up for her overdramatic reaction, because he’s small and must be protected.)

Helisent!⭐️ Hel tends to float a lot when she’s meditating. Sometimes Beef will climb into her lap because it’s wind and it feels like home. (Since they were both almost-tempered by Garuda) 

⭐️ Despite the size difference between a lallafell and a hyur, Helisent ends up learning how to really harness her wind powers with monk style fighting, something she’s been curious about. She’s never learned hand to hand, but Beef is probably the best kind of ‘mentor’ she could hope for. 

Shining!⭐️ Beef comes by a lot when she’s cooking. I think one time he came into Da Family’s house with a fresh kill, and the Sumerki’s weren’t around, so she took it off his hands and started cooking it. She ended up telling him a lot about her mothers’ cooking, and offhandedly mentioned one plant that she’d need to make a certain dish. The next time, he came by with another kill and a cutting of the plant. 

⭐️ Shining sings to him a lot. Rather, she sings in general, but she’s learned the kind of songs that Beef likes, and will happily sing for him. She also will perform any orchestrion rolls he brings back. 

Nive! ⭐️ Beef and Nive initially met via Gale and one of Nive’s Egis--specifically her Garuda Egi. The two did full on spiderman-meme and made Beef and Nive run into each other. 

⭐️ Nive and Beef bond over a love of hats. They just Do, that’s how it is. Hats galore.

"Remind me again, why the hells we're doin' this in the middle of a dust storm, Beef?" Caranar grumbled. "And why this town? Place looks like a shi- whoa!"

Beef pitched forward atop Caranar's shoulders to grab hold of his horns, causing them both to wobble unnaturally.

"Are you carrying a ton of paint, or did you always weigh this much?" Caranar complained loudly. "Maybe you actually did get taller..."

Bit by bit, the two gradually scaled the the side of the butte. It wasn't far to climb, but the painter's equipment Caranar had strapped to his back made it a struggle, and it would've been a damn sight harder for a Lalafell to do alone.

As they crested over the ridge, Beef climbed down from atop Caranar to pull at his arm, which didn't really help.

"Yeah, alright, alright..."

The task of setting up the easel and finding a rock for Beef to stand on was much less arduous than getting there in the first place, and though Caranar was prepared to hold the easel in place if need be, the storm winds were wrangled into a zephyr breeze in Beef's immediate vicinity. Not even the dust marred his canvas.

Caranar sat against the back of the easel, where he was still within Beef's sphere of influence. He still wasn't so sure what was special about this view of Sheshenewezi Springs - at least, not with the dust clouds in the way.

They whiled away the time until Caranar heard Beef hop down from the rock and pick up the canvas. When he studied the piece, he could see it as Beef did: The dark shape of the buildings standing against the storm, the burn-off from the ceruleum refineries looming overhead like fleeting blue phantoms. He could see it.

"It looks nice."
