It’s the 48th anniversary of this concert in Houston on the Main Course tour that I like to refer to as the “Kill Shelley with Barry’s perfect butt cheek show”.
Special shout out to Robin, who was also looking particularly delicious. 🔥

On Themes In The Music Of The Bee Gees
The Bee Gees’ remarkable five-decade career was characterized by several consistent thematic and musical elements that helped define their distinctive artistic voice. One of the most prominent themes throughout their work was the exploration of romantic relationships in all their complexity. From their early baroque pop period through their disco era and beyond, the brothers Gibb frequently…

"Words" (1969)
youtube
"Words" is a Bee Gee's ballad written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, recorded on October 3, 1967, with only Barry Gibb on vocals. The song was released as a single in January 1968. Back then, the track was not featured in any album but not much time afterwards it was included on the Bee Gees' first international Greatest Hits album, the compilation LP "Best of Bee Gees" (1969).
Elvis Presley performed "Words" live on August 25, 1969 (Midnight Show) at the International Hotel in Las Vegas. The live recorded cover was first released on Elvis' double LP "Elvis - From Memphis to Vegas / From Vegas to Memphis" (October 14, 1969). A July 1970 rehearsal of the song, at MGM studios, is shown in the documentary "Elvis - That's the Way It Is" [video 1].

How Deep Is Your Love (1977) - Bee Gees
Genre: soft rock
Peak position on US Billboard Hot 100: 1
Bee Gees are of course a classic disco group, with the third most number 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits ever, surprisingly. This particular number 1 hit seems to be a fan favourite, and is Barry Gibb's favourite too; it is a beautiful ballad and another contender for a favourite song of mine.
It is a song that evolves as it goes, progressing to a goosebump-inducing emotional climax, where the strings and the layers of vocals combine to wonderful effect (it is definitely worth listening to this in headphones because the song is most powerful when it surrounds and overwhelms you). However, it never loses the gentle, intimate core of the song, which begins with primarily just the electric piano and the vocals.
I was struggling to come up with a word to describe the atmosphere the electric piano creates, but it has a soothing quality that, in this context, feels tender and even loving. Of course, this is secondary to the vocals, which are gorgeous throughout. I believe it is mostly Barry Gibb singing, even the backing vocals, and he has a lovely smooth voice in this song that I much prefer to the slightly grating shrill singing on "Stayin' Alive". His singing controls the emotion of the song perfectly; he is able to transition between the more powerful moments of passion and the softer intimacy in a way that feels natural and gradual.
Like this, the song is able to maintain the sense that this is about a private feeling between two people - a powerful feeling that feels like everything, but is ultimately a quiet moment. It would be easy for a ballad like this to lose its impact when it increases in grandeur and richness, by disconnecting itself from the very personal emotion it is ironically trying to emphasise, but here it never feels excessive. It is a perfect love song for me, in that it conveys the power and beauty of love while simultaneously maintaining its intimacy and privacy.

I'm actually so fucking sick of El gee bee tee pluses who think that everyone who doesn't reclaim queer or doesn't understand some dumb niche label or whatever is just Uneducated and Stupid and Doesn't Know History. History is not some infallible force of nature where everything was done correctly. I'm glad that a smallish people in the 80's reclaimed queer but guess what? The whole community hasn't. Screaming at people that bi lesbian is a valid identity because people used it in the past but when you look closer it's because people didn't understand what bisexuality was, so you were either gay or straight. It's the fact that yall scream about knowing queer History but refuse to critically think about it further, and say that "things were better back then". Oh my god. Leave people alone.

Time to ruin the ocarina of time shipping scene, because in an interview with Nintendo power, Fujibayashi confirmed that he will be the scenario writer for the remake of OoT and confirmed that they will be adding new areas and scenes that were originally planned for the game in 1996. Like that there is a way to fail the Lon Lon side quest and have the ranch catch on fire like Miyamoto planned to do originally.
On top of that, Fujibayashi as scenario writer wanted to "Update the game in a new and exciting way" by "making the world feel more lived in" when asked to elaborate he said " the software for the N64 couldn't allow for more towns and villages besides Kakariko, so it was being added in for the remake along with advanced NPC scheduling, new sidequests and chracters." they will also be adding "Familiar faces from the Zelda series" apprently to end up tying it into the new lore, I'm assuming this is about Hylia since she was not an established God in the original games.
Chris Hoffman was then shown new character art for, and I quote "a fun little guy with an in depth side quest" who apprently is gonna "rectify the fact that nintendo didn't add any young men around Link's age originally" because they were afraid what the fujoshis would do to this man on pixiv " yeah so this fruitcake is named Arnold and we wanted the player to realize link was a queer" when forced to talk further Aonuma confirmed he made Link's appreance the way that it is because " he's one of the el gee bee tees"
Here is the new art for said npc
Tumblr media
" so we made him wear purple because it's on the bisexual pride flag, and Link is also bisexual, their sidequest is a romance and will be the first time in Nintendo history that Link canonically kisses a man on the mouth freak style"
Apprently Link will also be kissing Sheik on the mouth too, but because of covid 19 restrictions it cannot be done freak style like Arnold, since Sheik will be wearing a mask. Fujibayashi profusely apologized for this
There also is no way to Romance Sheik after he turns back into Zelda because girls have cooties

໑ 70s DOUCHEBAG CHRIS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who is the self-appointed king of his high school. He revels in tormenting underclassmen, making them run errands or embarrass themselves for his amusement.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who never misses an opportunity to mention he’s a senior, even in completely unrelated conversations.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who drives a 1971 Chevy Chevelle he’s named “Eclipse,” which he constantly brags about but treats terribly.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who always the loudest guy at every party, either hogging the aux cord to play Dark Side of the Moon or challenging someone to a keg stand.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who flirts shamelessly, leaning into his “asshole” image. He’ll toss out lines like, “Why are you with that guy when you could have someone like me?”
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who’s success rate is higher than it should be, much to the frustration of his peers.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who will say things like, “You know, time is just a construct, man,” while ignoring that he’s failing history class.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who has an “intellectual” side where he quotes Pink Floyd lyrics as if they’re his original thoughts.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who keeps a beat-up notebook hidden in his car where he scrawls angsty poems inspired by Wish You Were Here. He’d never admit it, but they’re mostly about a girl who rejected him sophomore year.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who despite his bravado, Chris is secretly dreading leaving high school. The real world scares him, and he has no idea what he wants to do.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who knows every lyric from The Wall and will fight anyone who says it’s overrated. He once got detention for arguing with a teacher who claimed Led Zeppelin was better.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who has lost more money than he’d care to admit betting on street races or card games. His friends joke that he has “negative luck.”
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who never admit it, Chris has a few Bee Gees records tucked behind his Pink Floyd collection. He sometimes dances to Stayin’ Alive when he’s alone in his room.
DOUCHEBAG CHRIS.. who whether it’s for pizza, gas, or concert tickets, Chris is notorious for saying, “I’ll get you back,” and then never following through.

im so sorry to my girl akemi for always leaving her out of my posts and headcanons it's just in my mind my ideas about her are just very incompatible with my ideas about mizu&ringo&taigen.
like she deserves to rule japan and she shouldn't waste her time on these silly angry el gee bee tees she should be girlbossing gaslighting gatekeeping it up in the palace and making out with the nightjar girls in her spare time and also making sweet love with her gentle and kind husband as she plays him like a fiddle.
like if they want to do a spin-off for this show it has to be about akemi. like she deserves to have her name written in their history books, her wikipedia page has to be endlessly long listing every single one of her accomplishments, statues need to be built in her image, manifestos and decrees need to be written according to her vision. do you know what i'm saying.

woe Bertalan aka Berci lore be upon you bc I keep tweaking the damn thing lol
Tumblr media
His full name is Bertalan Atheldon, he's 56 during the events of bee gee three tho tbf I don't have a firm grasp on how half-elf aging works and as such I have no idea if that age fits his looks lol so I might bump it up. Again. He is a beastmaster ranger with an outlander background and he's primarily a "keeper of the veil" - meaning that he favors hunting extraplanar creatures primarily fey.
Berci is the lovechild of a travelling scholar and a farmgirl whose family hosted him for a while. They've dated for a short time and parted on good terms, Berci's human mom then married a human man shortly after so things got awkward when Bertalan was born looking like his elven dad. Berci was never really directly harmed by his human family, but he was never really treated as someone who truly belonged in that family. He wasn't hated but he wasn't loved either. Eventually Berci's mom decided to try and seek out his dad, in the hopes that he might give him a better life.
Luckily she managed to find him, and Berci's dad was more than happy to have his son join him on his escapades. Bertalan spent his adolescent years going from one digsite to the next, and while he never had an affinity to history, he seemed to have some talents for healing. So Berci's dad saved up some money in the hopes of getting him into a decent school where he could learn medicine and eventually become a surgeon. Unfortunately he dies, a few months after Berci begins his studies.
As you might guess, Bertalan takes his father's death rather hard and he drops out shortly before graduating, unable to focus on his studies while dealing with his grief. Still his skills were enough to land a position in a group of monster hunters who needed someone to patch them up (at the time, they're joined by a cleric some time after). One member of the group was a gnome ranger who took him under her wings after she saw him once patch up an injured dire raven (who then decided to stick around). So for the next decade or so Berci was learning the ways of the beastmaster ranger and working as an adventurer for hire. But then, that also ended in a rather ugly way. The group agreed to hunt down a hag who ended up luring them to the Shadow Cursed lands with the use of a mushroom circle. Bertalan was injured pretty much immediately by one of the shadow creatures there and the only reason he (and the group's cleric of Lathander) didn't end up succumbing to the curse with the rest of the team was that their cleric dragged him to the nearby Rosymorn Monastery.
After recovering Berci continued to roam Faerun as a lone ranger hunting malicious fey creatures with no one but Corvus (his raven companion) and Ursa (his mentor's bear companion) for company. By the time of bee gee three, he's no longer capable to function in any other way.
Berci is best characterized as rather blunt and kind of an edgelord. He expects the same kind of bluntness directed at him, he's dismissive of people trying to coddle him. His first instinct is to push away people trying to show him genuine affection as he no longer knows whether being loved or being unloved is worse and he would need time and genuine effort to overcome that instinct. Still he has a curious mind, he's eager to fuck around and always ready to find out. Because of this he comes across as someone quick to trust, though he would probably view himself as someone willing to give one chance to earn his trust. He also might come across as aggressive and intimidating but he's a secret softie with a nurturing and responsible side to him - and he rarely ever let's his anger get the better of him - still he sees no value in heroism as he sees it as inherently self-destructive. He has a strong sense of survival but he prefers stabilizing the environment around him if possible over fighting for individual survival. He sees power as merely a tool that reveals the person wielding it and doesn't believe in the concept of "absolute power" - such a thing is only relative to the current world and nature always finds a way to balance the scales.

Born on this Day: The iconic Janis Joplin (#Bi2).
In the early hours, between midnight and dawn, on Sunday, August 17, 1969, Janis Joplin took to the stage, marking a historic moment during the three-day Woodstock Music and Art Fair in Bethel, New York. Draped in her signature long-sleeved tie-dyed outfit, this performance held special significance as it was Joplin's first major solo act after parting ways with her band, Big Brother & The Holding Company, a year earlier following the release of their album "Cheap Thrills".
Facing an unexpectedly massive crowd, Joplin fearlessly entertained with a mix of new songs, covers, and beloved Big Brother favorites. While initially criticized for departing from her iconic performances with Big Brother (notably at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival), Joplin's Woodstock show secured her place in rock history.
Joplin asked the audience in the dark, "How are you guys out there? You're staying stoned and you got enough water and you got a place to sleep and everything? Because all of us — and I don't mean to be preachy — but we oughta remember, and that means promoters too, that music's for grooving, man, and music's not for putting yourself through bad changes. You don't have to take anybody's shit, man, just to enjoy music."
Joplin kicked off her performance with a spirited rendition of Eddie Floyd's "Raise Your Hand," backed by the Kozmic Blues Band. This lineup included guitarist John Till, keyboardist Richard Kermode, bassist Brad Campbell, drummer Maury Baker, along with Terry Clements on tenor saxophone, Luis Gasca on trumpet, and Cornelius "Snooky" Flowers on baritone saxophone.
The band introduced their first new track, "As Good As You've Been To This World", from Joplin's upcoming 1969 debut album "I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama!" Transitioning to a mellower groove, Joplin delivered a soulful rendition of the Bee Gees' hit "To Love Somebody", also featured on her "new" album, followed by a sultry interpretation of George and Ira Gershwin's classic standard "Summertime", previously covered on "Cheap Thrills".
Joplin poured her heart into the 11-song set, pushing her vocal limits. She regained the energy with two more new songs, "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)" and the heartfelt ballad "Kozmic Blues".
Tenor saxophonist Snooky Flowers joined in for a spirited rendition of Otis Redding's 1965 hit "Can't Turn You Loose" before the set's grand finale, "Work Me, Lord", a Nick Gravenites composition that Joplin belted out until her voice could carry no more.
Encouraged by the roaring audience, Joplin returned to the stage, concluding her Woodstock performance with two tracks from "Cheap Thrills." These songs were her iconic hit "Piece Of My Heart" and a fervent cover of Big Mama Thornton's "Ball And Chain", delivering every ounce of herself to the enthralled crowd.

Year-End Poll #29: 1978
Tumblr media
[Image description: a collage of photos of the 10 musicians and musical groups featured in this poll. In order from left to right, top to bottom: Andy Gibb (x2), Bee Gees (x3), Debby Boone, Exile, Player, A Taste of Honey, Commodores. End description]
More information about this blog here
Late 1977, a little film called Saturday Night Fever hit American theaters. The movie not only cemented disco's place in mainstream music, but it also helped to contribute to the increased popularity of Bee Gees. On this poll alone, the brothers occupy half of the options, whether as a group or Andy Gibb's with solo work.
This poll also includes one of the biggest hit songs of all time: Debby Boone's You Light Up My Life. As of me writing this, Billboard has it listed as the 12th biggest song in the entire history of the charts. Previous songs to be included on this list include The Twist (number 2) and Mack the Knife (number 4).
