Osmia aglaia on Dutch white clover (Trifolium repens). Dutch white clover is the common white flower that grows in lawns. I've been working hard to mix it into my lawn in mass quantities this year. While bees enjoy visiting it, the benefits don't stop there- this clover can fix up to 170 lbs. of nitrogen per acre, which makes for very potent soil. It also makes a lawn far more beautiful and interesting than pure turf grass. #bees #whiteclover #clover #trifoliumrepens #nitrogenfixing #insects_macro #fiftyshades_of_macro #macro_captures #bug #osmiaaglaia #greenberrybee #pollinator #pollinatorgarden #beautifullawn #lawns #insects_of_our_world #pocket_insects #mat_macro #canon #kings_insects #macroworld_tr #macrofreaks #bug

8-Step Program to a Perfect Lawn in North Texas
Hello, I'm here to help you get your lawn looking like the best lawn on the block this year.
I'm going to reveal to you my 8-step program that is specifically for North Texas residents.
This is the perfect time of the year to start developing a plan and getting all the supplies you will need to make this happen.
Right now your grass is likely dormant, or asleep for the winter, unless you have annual rye winter grass. If so, do not follow this program.
The first step, anytime before the end of February, is to apply a post-emergent herbicide spray to kill the existing weeds. You can buy a bottle of 2,4-D from WalMart for $10 that will be enough to cover an entire acre. Follow the directions on how much to mix with water, and add contents into your hand-held or backpack sprayer. You will also need to add one tablespoon of a surfactant, such as dishwashing liquid to the mix. This is highly recommended because it helps the spray to attach itself to the weed and stay there. Make sure you are using a flat nozzle tip that creates a fine mist. Make sure you are using protective gear like a mask over your face, because ingesting this chemical can cause some serious health problems. It can take 2-4 weeks for you to see complete results after using this, but normally it will only take a week.
The second step, after all the existing weeds have been killed, is to lay down a pre-emergent to prevent more weeds from popping up. Here in North Texas, the best time to do this is between March 5-15. After these dates, the temperature typically gets warm enough for the weed seeds to "germinate". The key here is to apply the pre-emergent before the temperature gets warm enough for this. The granular pre-emergent you want to use needs to be a combination that kills both broadleaf weeds like dandelion and purple henbit, and grassy weeds like crab grass dallis grass, and Johnson grass. The square footage of your grass needs to be calculated. A good place to do that online is: https://www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-area-calculator-tool.htm Set your spreader to the correct setting, according to the directions on your bag of pre-emergent, and follow the directions on how to correctly cover the entire yard. Afterwards you will sweep or blow the excess granules off of concrete to prevent staining, and then water the lawn to activate the pre-emergent.
Step three is going to be during the last week of march. This is when you will apply your slow-release nitrogen fertilizer. This fertilizer will gradually release nitrogen over a 4-6 week span, helping your grass to grow in thick and green. 聽You will also apply this by using your broadcast spreader. Follow the instructions on the bag to ensure you are adding the proper amount, and not damaging, or burning the grass. Also make sure you follow the instructions on the path to take with the spreader to get an even amount all across your lawn.
The next step is to apply another round of fertilizer in the third week of May.
Step 5 is to apply more pre-emergent between June 5-15.
For step 6, we are going to fertilize the lawn again, during the third week of July, but this time, find a granular slow-release nitrogen fertilizer that contains an Iron Supplement. This is going to make your grass become a beautiful dark green at the peak of the summer.
Step 7 will include another, final application of pre-emergent for the season. This will be during the third week of September.
The final step will be to apply a final application of fertilizer during the final week of September.
Make sure that you are keeping your lawn watered properly. You want to make sure your lawn has enough water, but you don't want to over-water it. Try not minimize watering at night, try to water in the morning. This link will give you a little more info on when and how to water properly: https://www.rynolawncare.com/watering-lawn-north-texas/
There are a few other things that you can do in addition to this program that will set your yard apart from the others around you, like aerating your lawn and dethatching.
Aerating your lawn does wonders for it. Here are a few reasons why you should aerate:
Oxygen and water are better able to enter the soil.
Rainwater will not run off.
Earthworms and other beneficial organisms have more room to live.
Fertilizer can reach the grass roots.
These benefits lead to healthier grass, which means fewer weeds.
Aerating should be performed in late March-April.
Dethatching should be performed at about the same time. Dethatching is removing all of the excess grass that builds up above the soil. Once it gets to be at least a half inch, you should have it removed. Never have it removed during a heat wave, this could kill your lawn. For our warm-season grasses, it's best to have it removed in early spring-summer.
I hope that you find this information helpful. I have spent several years mastering the art of growing a beautiful lawn and I hope you can benefit from this information and get yours looking the way you want it to.
