Part three to Doesnât Hurt, where Y/n finally understands what a relationship is, and birds donât belong to be locked in a pretty silver cage
AN:Â Death to Y/n (No y/n usage)
!Please Read!:  Part One  Part TwoÂ
Edited: feb. 29 2024
They say that the heart was made to be broken. It was stuffed down your throat in every bad poem youâd had read, in every story that never knew when enough was enough, it was a bitter pill that was overused. And yet, it had slowly started to make sense.
As you laid down in bed with Katsuki by your side, you could feel ice start to form over your heart. It was like frost over a window, and it took less than an hour for the cold to be all you could think of. Why am I so cold, when I used to burn for you?
Youâd spoken to Fumikage again the night prior, and it was almost like your mouth became a faucet, and the droplets of words turned to a steady stream which couldnât be shut off.
He had you inside one of his largely oversized sweatshirts, and you couldnât have stopped yourself from leaning deeply into his heat.
âYouâre so warm,â youâd whispered, leaning into his shirt-covered chest. It vibrated heartily as he chuckled. Youâd gotten used to each otherâs presence, and, while it had taken a long time, things were so comfortable the first names just seemed to flow. After all, how long can you stay acquaintances with someone youâve shared a bed with?Â
âYou know youâd be a lot warmer if you dressed for the weather,â heâd whispered; it hadnât taken long for Tokoyami to figure out that his new midnight friend was shocked by loud noises. He had many theories as to why, but he never had enough evidence to feel comfortable asking you about them.
âWhy would I do that if I have a personal furnace with me?â
âHah! Sometimes I think thatâs the only reason you keep me around,â he teased her rarely, but when he did it would catch you so off guard that you would have trouble getting serious again.
âNo- I keep you around because youâre the only person I think I can really talk to,â you had looked up at the stars, oblivious to the stares heâd leveled on the back of your head.Â
If only he could tell you how he felt, he would cherish you like the muse he knew you truly were- he was so much better than the evil spirit you associated yourself with. But, for now, he would have to disguise his compliments as well as he could with friendship.
âYou were breathtaking during your presentation today,âÂ
âOh! Uh- thank you, Fumi! That means a lot coming from you,â a smile had taken over your face, and it was as bright as the stars you oh-so admired.Â
Tokoyami loved it when you smiled. He brought his arms around both of your bodies, and he pressed them closer together, as he rested his forehead on the top of your head, leaning slightly to the side as to not hit you with his beak.
âAww,â you cooed at him and nuzzled closer to his chest, âsomeoneâs feeling awfully brazen tonight.â
âNo, not brazen. Just cold,â He lied. He hated lying, but he couldnât exactly tell you the truth now, could he? What would he say? âI know youâre in a relationship, but I think Iâve fallen so deeply in love with you that if you told me the sky was green, Iâd believe you without a second thought, and Iâm worried you donât know how much power you hold over me,âÂ
You would freak out, and heâd never be able to hold you again. You would stretch your wings and fly away, as you were already hovering just out of reach. He knew it was wrong, itâs immoral to covet another personâs treasures, but when they treat them like paper-weights, is it truly wrong to try and save them?
He kissed the top of your head, âYouâre too good for anyone,â
âAre you anyone?â
âI donât know, am I anyone to you?â
âThis seems like a dangerous game,â you had sighed and turned around to face him. You knew that the moment you looked into his poisonous eyes youâd be hooked. His eyes wouldnât let you go without a struggle.Â
âYouâve never been one to walk on the path of easy decisions and smooth pavement,â he challenged you, daring you- begging you to say something, anything to prove he stood a chance.Â
âI donât know. I feel like Iâm taking the easy route in almost anything I do nowadays,âÂ
He grabbed your hands and held them in his own, âYouâre hurting, itâs natural to shield yourself from anything that could harm you further,â
You were rarely left speechless, but with his intoxicating words and deadly eyes, it was hard to form a response worth saying.
âIâm starting to think youâre a bad influence,â You whispered, and you put your noses together.
âBelieve me, that was never my attention,â he tilted his head lightly, and he was so close you could feel his breath on your lips; you were sure he felt the same.
You looked from his beak to his eyes. If he had lips you doubt you could have have been able to resist kissing him, but you was given the opportunity to second-guess yourself.Â
His crystal eyes shined through the clouds, like the beacon on the pier, they always seemed to beckon you closer. They dared you to sail towards them, it was almost like they held the secret to the world.
âI canât kiss you, Fumi,â you whispered. You eyes had clenched shut, as you tried to stop the tears that were beginning to show themselves. You canât do this, this isnât you.
âWhy not?â He asked, his heart was falling apart, and it felt like he was being burned.
âI canât leave Katsuki, heâs done nothing wrong,â
âHeâs done nothing right,â he interjected as soon as you finished talking. âYou shouldnât stay with someone who makes you doubt your worth,â
Your phone rang from inside you dorm. You ducked under his sweatshirt and sighed.Â
âThatâs him, isnât it?â He asked. He wasnât mad, just very frustrated.Â
âI thinkâŠâ You looked away from him, âYou should go to your room.â
You left him on your balcony, and you answered your boyfriend. He watched as you shut the door, you didnât lock it. Did she want me to ignore what she said and go in? Was this a test? Or did she really want me to leave?Â
âDammit!â He huffed before going up to his room. Why did he have what he wanted, what he deserved? Bakugo couldnât keep you, does he not see how sad you are with him? A real man would leave on his own.
That night, four people cried themselves to sleep. A prince who lost his princess before he even had the chance to pull out his sword, a storm that destroyed the peace-wrecking everything it touched, a lighthouse that only wanted to guide the lost back home, and a white dove that couldnât stretch its wings- forever trapped in her cage.Â
âââââââââââââââ
Bakugoâs hand rested on your waist as he slept. You had been watching a movie before he passed out, and he was un-budging. It always shocked you, how he used to keep you so warm.
He would hold you in private, as soon as you had a moment alone he would squeeze you tight like he never wanted to let go. It was such a powerful hug, that it almost hurt to let go. You had loved those hugs.Â
Now there were no hugs, no stolen moments. Now he watched you freeze hogging all his warmth for himself.Â
Could it be⊠that he gives his warmth to somebody else? No- you canât think like that, Bakugoâs not a heartless cheater. Heâs not you after all.
But was it cheating? Was it wrong? When Bakugo destroys everything you has created, how can you not learn to lean on the eyes that watch over you?
A soft groan snatched your attention. You looked over to the blonde boy, and he seemed to be stirring in his sleep. You quickly relaxed your body and shut your eyes.
He peered through his eyelids and reached out, running his fingers up your hip and the side of her torso and back down following the natural bend.Â
âBabe, Iâve got to go,â he voice was so smooth, he was so close to having complete control over you, and he would never know.Â
You hummed in response and stretched reaching your arms up. âDo you have to?â It came out as a whisper, and it was so soft that Bakguoâs heart fluttered hearing it.
âItâs past curfew,â He responded, getting out of bed and grabbing his school bag and jacket, which had been tossed on the floor when they were prepping for the movie. Â
Itâs now or never, girl! Youâll never get this chance again!Â
âKatsuki?â You called out, almost regretting it when you locked eyes with him.
âHm? What?âÂ
âI uhhhh,â Donât lose your nerve, âI want to go on a date tomorrow!âÂ
âSure,â He offered, has he always been so casual?
âReally?â It was hard to hide the surprise and disbelief in your voice, but your not entirely sure what you were expecting.Â
âYeah, of course. Why not?â He threw back, as he walked to the door. âWhere do you want me to take you?â
âSomewhere sweet. Iâd like to be able to hold your hand, so we could take the train across the region?â
âAnything for you. Goodnight babe, be ready by 6 tomorrow, Iâll see you then,â
âIâll see you then,âÂ
Once he had shut the door, you started squealing in delight. You ran through outfits in your head, and a bright smile never left your face. You canât remember exactly how long it had been since he had been taken out on a date, but it had been way too long.
Rejecting the offers that other boys had given you wasnât something you had anticipated- youâd never thought that highly about yourself.
However, you grew to realize that class 1A truly did care about you, or at least they acted like it. It was strange to think people seek out your company, but the knocks on your door became a constant in your life, you became used to people coming to talk to you late into the night.Â
You had grown accustomed to knocks on your door, but recently you havenât been answering them. Youâre not doing it consciously, but your late-night-chats with Tokoyami have taken you outside far more often, and you canât hear the door from there.Â
With the memories of the night before still present in your mind, you went and stood outside. You were out there for five minutes, and you grabbed a hold of yourself once again. You hadnât felt cold outside for a long time- Tokoyami always kept you warm.Â
Is he not coming? Did I ruin my chance to be near him? Can I even blame him for not wanting to be with me?
Though it might be harsh- as all things were when you were talking about yourself- you looked out to the stars, and you couldnât pinpoint when things became so messed up; it was so sudden, or maybe it was just like that the whole time.Â
But one thing was different, Fumikage was different. He was always there for you, he would listen to you- keep you warm. He was so different than what you was used to, and you would be lying if she said that she didnât love it.Â
He was so warm and so present. It never felt like he was shying away from you without reason, and you learned to bask in the light he shined on you, but there are two sides to every coin, and this was no exception. You could never get too used to him, because at the end of every day, you are with Bakugo, and the cycle continued.Â
You rested your head on your palm and sighed. Why couldnât something go right? And just when all apparent hope was lost-
âYou know if Iâm going to have to stop spending time with you at night, youâre going to have to invest in a sweatshirt,â
And you couldnât bring yourself not to smile. And Fumikage couldnât bring himself to look at you.Â
âIf you could have anything,â you whispered, âIf the world was your oyster and you could do anything,â tears started to fill her eyes, âwhat would you do?â
He paused- the thought had never crossed Tokoyamiâs mind. Why was she so strict in how she used her abilities?
âIf every time you had said out loud âI wish-â and whatever followed came true, how different would your life be?â
You had never been so serious with your words- and it caught him far off guard. Millions of thoughts ran through his head, and he couldnât bring himself to say any of them.
âWhat is it that you wish, princess?â He finally approached you, grabbing your elbows and looking deep into your eyes.
âI canât say it,â
âWhy not?â
âBecause,â your heart broke just a little more, âIf I say it out loud, and itâs not already true- than I will have ruined one of the most important moments of my life,â
He paused and bit his tongue, âI hope my love is what you wish; because, you possess it completely,â
âIâm dating Bakugo,â you whispered soft enough that he almost didnât hear it.
âAnd yet you love me,â
âWho could love a cheater?â
âWe havenât even performed the most innocent act of romance, how could you have been unfaithful?â
âCheating with the heart will always hurt more than cheating with the body- I've betrayed more than our relationship I took advantage of his trust.â
âThan break up with him, so I wonât make a cheater out of you,â
âYou say that like itâs easy,â and to him, it was the easiest thing- he loved you.
âIt will be,â
âHe loves me,â
âThen where is he?â Yes, it was a low-blow, and Tokoyami knew it. You had told him on many occasions that you wished her boyfriend would stand outside with her in the cold, but Bakugo thought it was stupid and a waste of time. He used to, heâd even met you on one of your sky-watching sessions. It hurt to think that he would use their past conversations against you, but where was he wrong?
âHeâs probably asleep,â
âThen you should sleep, so that you may do one last thing as a couple before he loses the title,â The woman he was completely in love with just told him he has a chance, and he will never forgive himself if he ruins this.
âThatâs harsh,â
âIf love be harsh with you, be harsh with love,â
âDid you just misquote Shakespeare at me?â You couldnât stifle the small laugh that escaped your lips. Fumikage always had a way to make you smile at the most peculiar of times, and trust him to throw the charged tension for a loop.
âPerhaps I did,â He teased you lightly, and shook his head.Â
âIf I broke up with him, if tomorrow night I was out here by myself, and every other night from now to eternity, would you keep your warmth for yourself? Would you get sick of me? Iâm so fucked up, I donât even know what a secure attachment style is. How long am I going to hurt like this?â
Tears had regathered in your eyes, and your lips had fallen to quiver. Your body shook, and it would never be known if it was from the cold in the air or the cold in your heart.
âQuote the raven,â
âHah,â you wiped your tears with the palms of your hands, âYou read poetry?â
âOnly the good kind,â he thought back, and he knew their first encounter like the back of his hand. Had your lips been as prominent back then as they did now? Were you crying then too?
Your eyes flickered between his crimson eyes, as you searched for a sign, anything that told you that he wanted this too. He stepped closer, and his breath hitched. Was this finally happening?
They were an inch away from each other, and you drew your lip between your teeth, as Fumikage put his forehead on yours.
He murmured your name.
You hummed in acknowledgment, and you locked eyes.
âI love you,â he took a breath in before lacing his fingers into your hair, and he pulled you a little closer, and you kissed. Your shared heat shielded you from the painful cold that was biting at your skin. Time seemed to stop as you basked in each otherâs warmth.
Even as his eyes were closed, your crimson lighthouse had finally done their job, you were home. You were hidden by the dark as night cloaked the world. And, in your own little bubble, you missed your ringing phone. And, in their own little bubble, you never heard the storm knocking on your door.Â
And so, as the clouds give way and the thunder travels further and further away, the ship had managed its way to the lighthouse. And the princess had been freed from her tower while the prince laid in bed, broken and alone. And the pretty little dove was saved by a raven, and together they spread their wings and flew away.
And, with all things considered, can you really blame a person for getting involved, if it was love? Even if they knew someone could get hurt? Even if the dove is already in a cage, is it really so wrong to want to fly alongside her?
You held Tokoyami close that night, and you stayed together until early morning. Until the birds began to chirp and the owls had fallen asleep, and you finally realized that being in a relationship doesnât have to hurt to be real.

I hope you all enjoyed this three-part series! It took a while to finish, but I am overjoyed with the support you all have shown it!Â

You cared a lot about what your parents thought about you. Youâve always looked for their approval. Through grades, jobs, relationships. They always said they would support you in whatever you do, but you knew that wasnât true. They would support you as long as you do what they want you to. Luckily, they werenât the type to want you to be a doctor or lawyer but instead they wanted you to find a simple job until you get married and then have kids. You werenât against that plan per say but they wanted it to happen immediately. You on the other hand wanted it to happen over time, but life had other plans.
Almost immediately after college you met Katsuki Bakugo, otherwise known as pro hero, Dynamight. You were on your way to work when a villian attacked a nearby building. You werenât sure what to do besides pull over and wait it out. It had barely been a few minutes since the villain attacked and Dynamight comes bursting onto the scene. You watched in amazement as the hero blasted through the air, fending off the villain. In fact, you were so amazed that you missed people running past your car away from danger. Before you knew it a massive boulder came flying at your car. You ducked and braced for impact. You feel someone yank you to the side and the sound of explosion. You peak open your eyes to see THE Dynamite carrying you to safety. He sets you down a block away from the madness, âPay attention next time, idiot.â and before you can say a word he flies off. At first you were dumbfounded by the fact that he saved you but then his rude words hit. No way, he was not going to get away with talking to you like that. So after police had told you the villain was detained you marched back over to the scene and right up to Dynamight.Â
âHey, asshole!â You yell
He whips his head to make eye contact with you, âWhat the hell did you just call me?â If you werenât so pissed he wouldâve scared you, but you couldnât see anything but rage.
âWho do you think you are, calling me an idiot? Arenât you supposed to be a hero?â
âWhat, so that means I canât tell the truth cuz it might âhurt your little feelingsâ.â He snarls
âIâll have you know it is not the truth!â
âOh yeah, my bad. Even an idiot would know to move when a massive boulder is moving your way.â He starts to walk away. You grab his insanely muscular arm and stop him. Your original intent was to spin him around but his body mass made that difficult.
âHey, it came faster than I could process it, thank you very much! What kind of hero saves someone and calls them an idiot anyway.â
âI do!â
âWell, youâre pretty shitty at your job then!â
âWhat are you doing tonight?â
âHuh?â
âAre stupid and deaf? I said what the hell are you doing tonight.âÂ
You were utterly confused. Dynamight was asking you about your dinner plans, âUh, nothing.â
âGood. Meet me at the noodle place on 24th street at 7. Donât be late.â
âHold on, did you just ask me on a date after I called you an asshole?â
âGot a problem with it?â You said nothing. âGood. Donât be late idiot.â And with that he flew off.
The Dynamight just asked you on a date. What the actual hell. Canât hurt to go right? And thatâs how you started dating Bakugo Katsuki.Â
...........
You walked into your parents house for dinner, Katsuki having made a fabulous pasta for them. Yâall even brought leftovers for them to keep. Katsuki dressed up in a nice button down shirt and khakis. Your parents hadnât had the chance to meet him because he could rarely find a night off work nor had you told them who he was. You didnât want them to assume things or use the media to define your relationship. Youâd been dating for a year and only recently did people find out. Luckily, your parents donât use the internet much so they havenât seen anything, but sooner or later itâll get around. Katsuki just finished a big mission, so they gave him a week of vacation time. You seized the opportunity to schedule a dinner. Sure it was a bit last minute but your parents have been dying to meet this âmystery boyfriendâ of yours.Â
âHeyyy, weâre here.â You called out as you enter the house. You hear your mom cooking in the kitchen with her music blasting. You yell over the music, âMom!âÂ
She stops the music, âYouâre here! Y/D/N, theyâre here!â She calls for your father. âDonât come in the kitchen yet. We want to meet him together.â
You stand awkwardly in your living room until your father has made his way downstairs so your parents can meet him together. âOkay okay, weâre ready.â Your mother sounds like a child on Christmas day. You walk in to see huge smiles on their faces awaiting your mystery boyfriends presence.Â
âGuys, meet my boyfriend, Katsuki Bakugo.â You gesture for him to come over.
Katsuki steps into the kitchen and holds his hand out for your parents, âNice to meet you Mr and Mrs L/N.â He gives them his warmest smile.Â
They however donât return it. They stand still like deer caught in headlights. Katsukiâs hand waiting awkwardly.
âMom, dad, shake his hand.â You tell them.
âRight sorry, nice to meet ya.â Your dad finally takes his hand and gives it a shake. Your mom following suit right after. âWe just didnât expect you to be a pro hero, you know.â
âThatâs okay, Iâm sure it was a bit of a shock.â Katsuki says politely, âI made you guys pasta.â He holds out the dish. Your dad takes it slowly while your mom continues to stare at him.Â
âHeâs a really good cook.â You say trying to ease the tension.Â
Your mom looks at you, âY/N can we talk for a minute...in the other room.â She takes your fatherâs hand and motions for you to follow. You give Katsuki an apologetic kiss on the cheek and you can see your mothers face twist in disgust from the corner of your eye.
âWhat is it mom?â You ask, slightly peeved that sheâs leaving her guest, your boyfriend, alone in the other room.Â
âWho is he?!â She asks also upset.Â
âWhat do you mean?â
âOut of all the boys you could bring home you choose him?âÂ
âWhatâs wrong with him?â You ask getting increasingly upset.Â
âWhats wrong with him?! Heâs the pro hero Dynamight!âÂ
âAnd?â
âHave you seen what everyone says about him? Heâs rude and arrogant and aggressive. What if he hurts you? I saw one article that says he threw a kid once.â
You couldnât believe it. Your mother was giving into the media and accusing your boyfriend of being abusive. âSeriously!? What is wrong with you? I canât believe youâre listening to what the media says. Theyâre liars whose goal is to make people look bad.â
âBehind every lie is an element of truth.â
âNo! None of what the media says is anywhere close to true. He avoids them because he wants privacy. Because of that they call him rude. Heâs actually one of the kindest people Iâve met. He cares about me and others. You wouldâve seen that if you had stayed for more than 5 seconds to talk to him! He made you a damn meal!â
âWatch your language. People will do anything to get their way.â
âI canât believe you right now! Dad come on, you canât agree.â You look to your dad who has been silent this whole time.Â
âWell, I have to say it is a bit concerning to see you dating a hero. I mean what about your safety? Wonât he attract danger?â You couldnât believe he was siding with your mother.
âLife is full of danger. Plus without him I wouldnât be alive.â
âWhat do you mean?â They both look at you concerned. You never told them about the incident. You were fine and it would do no good to tell them. They would just worry and become more over protective. Like they are now.Â
âWell, about a year ago I got caught in the middle of a villain attack. He saved me from getting crushed by debris, thatâs how we met.â
âWhat!â Your mother yells, âYour father was right, he does attract danger! You canât stay around him, youâll get killed!â
âI feel safer around him then I do alone!â You yell back.
âWhat if you have kids? What will you tell them when their father doesnât come home one day. Thatâs just irresponsible.â
âWhat the hell mom! We havenât even talked about kids yet. I donât even know if he wants kids.â
âWell isnât that great, he doesnât want kids. Hear that Y/D/N, he doesnât want kids!â She tries to drag your father into it who has continued to stay quiet.Â
âI didnât say that!âÂ
âIs everything alright?â You turn to see Katsuki at the living room entrance. Of course, he probably heard most of this.
âLook, now heâs trying to bud in on our conversation.â Your mom was being beyond petty. Youâd had enough.
âWeâre leaving.â You turn and drag Katsuki out the door. Your mom follows on your heels, dragging your dad along.Â
âFine, leave! Youâve always done stuff just to spite us! Going to a different high school, college and now this! Youâre a disappointment Y/N!â
âY/M/N! Donât say that!â Your dad finally defends you. Katsuki starts to say something but you stop him. You didnât want to taint their view of him any further.Â
The words from your mom hurt like a knife. You couldnât believe she said it outloud. Youâd always known how she felt, you just had hoped you were wrong. She was wrong. You didnât do anything to spite but to please. You went to a different high school than they wanted because it was better. The college they wanted you to go to didnât have as good of a program for your major as the one you went to. You thought they would proud of you dating Katsuki. A pro hero, how noble. Guess you were wrong. You and Katsuki get in your car and drive home. You were quiet on the way back, doing your best not to cry.Â
âSheâs wrong. Youâre not a disappointment.â Katsuki finally breaks the silence, âand if you want to break up, I get it. I know how much your parents opinion means to you.â
You whip your head to face him, surprised and confused by his words. It was enough for your mom to try and get in your head, now she was in his. âDonât you dare say that! I would never break up with you.â a smile spreads across his face. âIm sorry. The night was a disaster. I didnât expect them to react like that.â
âItâs okay. People have said a lot of mean shit about me. I donât care what anyone thinks, besides you.â
Your cheeks flush, âStill, she shouldnât have said all that. It was rude.â
âI see where you get your brashness from now.âÂ
âI donât know what youâre talking about.â
âOh miss âI called you an asshole first time I met youââ
You gasp dramatically, âOnly because you called me an idiot, thank you very much.â
âI only called you that because you were one.â
âI was not!â
âWere too. You didnât see a whole ass bolder flying towards your car.â
âMaybe, I was just trying to get your attention.â
âPretty dumb way of going about it if you ask me.â
âShut up.â
He lets out a small laugh. After a few minutes Katsuki breaks the silence, âI do want kids by the way.â
Your cheeks turn a bright red at his words. âSo you heard that.â
âYeah and I promise when we have kids, Iâll always come home to you.â He grabs your hand and rubs circles on it, meaning every word he says.
When? You like the sound of that. When you have kids you donât doubt for one second heâll keep his promise.Â
Bonus:Â
Text from Y/D/N:
Hey, Y/N. Iâm terribly sorry about how everything went down last night. Your mom should have never said any of that. Youâre not a disappointment. In fact, Iâm very proud of how far youâve come. Iâll be honest I was worried about your safety at first but after looking around the internet for a while Iâve seen how many people heâs saved and Iâm confident heâll keep you safe too. (But if he ever hurts you, I donât give damn if heâs a hero, Iâll beat his ass) I hope you can forgive us for our actions. Iâll talk to your mother but I canât promise sheâll come around. I love you and hope that this didnât cause a rift between us. Iâd like to have lunch with yâall soon if possible and get to know him. The real him. Again sorry for everything, love you.Â
P.s. Youâre right, he is a good cook. That pasta was fabulous.Â
