Just started reading it: „Bauhaus und Textilindustrie - Architektur Design Lehre“, edited by Christiane Lange & Anke Blümm and published last year by Prestel. The book brings together several essays dealing with the manifold connections of the Bauhaus and the textile industry in the town of Krefeld, the industry’s hotbed in the interwar years. Many Bauhaus students and staff members worked either for the industry or the were faculty members of the local textile schools and hence infused Bauhaus principles with either products or students. My personal favorite of the many entries in the book is Stephan Strauß’s detailed account of how the affluent factory and company owners shaped the towns architectural heritage and what renowned architects designed for them (also beyond Mies van der Rohe’s famous Villas and factory buildings). A great book that also adds an additional layer of commercial history to the rich Bauhaus heritage!
