During multi-day adventures, devices like your phone, GPS, headlamp or headset can make time out in the wilderness safer and even more memorable but recharging them once you reach camp comes with the risk of draining your bike’s battery beyond its capacity to start your motorcycle the next day. One device that helps diminish that risk is the Optimate USB O-100. It plugs into any SAE (battery tender) connector and converts your battery’s precious juice into useful USB power. Plus with a direct battery connection, it’s always on with no need to key the ignition. What’s unique though is this smart device’s ability to monitor the voltage of your bike’s battery while charging devices. If the battery drops below 12.4 Volts it will automatically turn off, ensuring you’ll have plenty of power to restart your journey the next day. There’s also a built-in charge monitor that lets you check your battery’s health at a glance, plus an auto shutoff feature cuts power to the USB port if it’s not in use for an hour to avoid any parasitic drain. Optimate offers a number of different solutions for both standard USB and USB-C power ports and they work with either Lead-Acid, AGM or Lithium-ion batteries. More details at bit.ly/motousb

My laptop just gave me a scare
See suddenly my laptop just suddenly shutdown
It opened once and then immediately shutdown again
I immediately assume I got some sort of virus while downloading movies
Then I think oh no is it because I changed my OS?
And then I realized what was wrong with it
See this Christmas I got a record player
I only have two usable plugs in my room, one is usually taken up by my iPad charger the other is generally either my laptop or my phone
Well since I always use my iPad that’s obviously plugged in and I have a new record player and I want to use that so that’s the other one and now where is that laptop charger going?
No where
My laptop didn’t get a virus my dumbass didn’t realize that it wasn’t plugged in
Well now I don’t have to reboot my laptop for that update…

My family had one of these battery chargers. The salient point I wish to make is that the box says it's for recharging Panasonic brand Ni-Cd batteries, but this was not made clear to my family. I think we owned two Panasonic C-cells and no other rechargeables. Every other battery we put into it was either a Radio Shack Red (carbon cell, which can be recharged somewhat) or any variety of alkaline (which cannot be recharged). Thus poor results.

Don't throw away dead car batteries - Recondition them:
Car batteries are too expensive to just throw them away when they lose their full power. They can be restored to their former glory or repurposed. Recondition them for backup or other DC Power uses.
CAREFULLY empty dead battery of any existing liquid (acid). Add 8-10 oz of Baking Soda to One Gallon container of [regular tap] Water. Fill battery compartments with the Baking Soda Water. Empty and repeat until bubbling (desulfating) stops. Empty the battery again and fill with plain water. Empty again. Add 8-12 oz of Alum or Epsom Salt to One Gallon container of warm Distilled Water and fill and close battery compartments. Attach to battery charger for about 24-hours.
