Headcanon for a BATIM x Epic Mickey crossover!

Bendy is selective mute. At least, I believe that what he experiences falls under selective mutism. I’ll explain it in a moment. Mickey knows sign language very well, but Bendy never really learned, so Mickey started teaching him. Oswald knows some sign language, but he’s still learning, so he sometimes joins in.

Okay, now back to what I mean when I said I think Bendy’s selective mute.

Bendy can talk, and he was pretty talkative a long, long time ago. After the incident, however, he was shocked into silence for quite some time. Even after the shock went away, the studio was now overrun with ink creatures. Being quiet was a smart choice in an environment like that, and the anxiety that something might attack at any moment definitely made his throat feel tighter. And after all of that, after he ended up in Wasteland, the trauma of it all still kept him quiet.

That’s it. I did my best to explain it.

I looked up “selective mutism” and if it can be caused by trauma, and judging by the results I got, I think what Bendy’s going through is trauma induced selective mutism? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Bendy looked at his ceiling, trying to think of a way to get everyone to notice how amazing, handsome, and charming he was. He was also trying to find a way to apologize to Mickey for hurting him. He literally blew his chance. They could have been best buds! Just thinking about Mickey being his friend- no. Best friend, made him smile like there was no tomorrow. His cheeks had even gone red. Grey? yeah, he was blushing. But his blush didn't last long, as he was hit with a sudden realization. He almost fucking killed Mickey. Sureeee, Mickey did leave paint on the floor which made him slip and bang his head which would kill almost any normal person. But Bendy's a toon! He'd live! But what Bendy had done was so much worse.. corruption is something entirely different. That doesn't just physically hurt you. No. That would be too simple. It hurts you mentally too.

It twists your thoughts. Takes you to the deepest darkest places in your mind. It gets you where it hurts. Bendy knew the feeling all too well. He shook his head, trying to get back on task. How can he prove to everyone (Especially Mickey) that he was a good guy? Did he have to act silly like every other toon? Bounce around and sing silly little songs for silly little kids all day? Ew, hard pass. Did he have to bake cakes for everyone, to show them how sweet he was? Ha! He can't bake! Shoot, he can't even cook. Once he burned water. What did he have to do?!How can he impress everyone? Why was this so easy for Mickey? He's literally watched and looked up to by thousands of people. How does he impress them? ... He performs and entertains! That's it!

Maybe if he could entertain people like Mickey, they would see how great he is. And maybe Mickey will notice him too! The more he thought about it, the bigger his newfound smile became. But, what would he do? Juggle? He's never tried to do that before. Maybe he's a pro at it! Bendy grabbed a couple of items off his messy bed and threw them high in the air. He tried to catch them, but as he soon found out, juggling isn't his thing. All of his things crashed onto the cold wooden floor, some of them even broke. "@&*!" Ok, he can't juggle. Can he sing? Hmm... Bendy thought of his favorite song and tried to sing along. "I sTILl sEE youR ShadoWs In my ROOm! CaN'T TaKe bacK thE LOvE thAt I gavE YOU!" 'CRASH' Bendy quickly stopped singing and looked at the object that made the loud noise. He just shattered his mirror. So, he can't sing either. What can he do? He never had to think about it before. Could he even do anything special at all?

He paced back and forth in his small room. 'Come on, think! There's gotta be something I can do!' Bendy wasn't going to leave his room until he had a plan. "Think! You're Bendy the Dancing Demon! There's gotta be something you can do!" He stopped walking "Bendy the Dancing Demon..." He smacked his forehead "Duh! You dance! I can dance for everyone! I'll do amazing performances all around town! I'll do leaps and backflips and twirls! They'll be so amazed that they would want to be my friends!" He did a little twirl because he was happy. "Oh, where would I start? It took Mickey years to get popular, and I don't even have a fanbase. Or a show, or a movie, or a book.. I can't just randomly start dancing in front of people. That would be super akward. Crap! I have to come up with a plan to help my plan! This is becoming very flipping confusing!"

Bendy started pacing back and forth again, thinking of new ideas. He stayed in his room for hours brainstorming. But nothing came to mind. He sighed and decided to give up. But just as he was about to lay down on his bed, there was a knock at his door. He walked over and opened it "What's up Bori-" He stopped talking mid-sentence because he wasn't looking up at his good pal Boris. But was looking down at his little crush Mickey Mouse. "Hiya Bendy! Boris told me you would be here. I just wanted to say I'm sorry for the paint accident. I didn't see it! But you slipped and could've been... Please forgive me." Bendy didn't say a word. He wanted to say so many things, but the words didn't come out. His crush that he had just hurt, came all the way over to his house just to apologize to him. How romantic is that!? Bendy blushed a dark grey.

"Are.. are ya mad at me?" Mickey asked with his head down. He felt horrible. Bendy had to be mad at him. How could he not be? Mickey, for the first time in forever, had done something wrong. It made his chest ache, and he didn't like that feeling. It wasn't a good feeling. It was also very, wrong. Bendy definitely hated him. He was so mad, he didn't even want to speak to him. "Is there anything, anything at all I can do to make you forgive me? I can buy you a pizza, show you around, invite you to my next show, you name it!" Bendy didn't realize that by him being silent, he basically broke the little mouse's heart. He tried to think of something that he wanted, something that he needed. He thought for a while and finally got an idea. "Hey, Mickey. Think you have enough room on your show for another act?"

A part of my BATIM x Epic Mickey AU that I love and go feral over is the role reversal in Bendy’s and Boris’ “friendship”.

If you’ve seen the cartoons, you’ll see that Boris takes Bendy’s food pretty often and hardly seems concerned for him or interested in genuinely being friends with Bendy at all. And in one episode, ‘Tombstone Picnic’, Boris even began growling and acting like he was actually going to hurt Bendy when Bendy got back at him for taking his sandwich. It was like a one-sided friendship. These are a part of this AU, and later down the line, the roles have been reserved.

Thirty years in the studio not only gave Bendy quite a few violent and aggressive behaviors, since he had to in order to survive, but time to think and reflect. That included the cartoons. He realized that Boris probably never saw him as a real friend, but rather someone to just take food from and get away with it. He slowly stopped missing the wolf and instead started resenting him.

For Boris, those thirty years were a bit of a roller coaster. First, he was okay with Bendy not being there. He was confused, but just shrugged and kept going. Then he started to resent Bendy because he assumed that the reason he couldn’t find him anywhere was because he was still remembered, but why wasn’t he? What made Bendy so popular?

Finally, he remembered the nice things that Bendy did that he took for granted. He started to miss him. Boris soon no longer cared about whatever fame Bendy had, he just hoped that he’d see him again. And apologize.

Now, in Wasteland, there’s a part in the story where Boris reaches over Bendy to grab some food meant for everyone, but Bendy thought he was trying to take his food again and lashed out a little.

Quick headcanon for the Epic Mickey x BATIM AU

Bendy can be summoned, like any demon could, except it’s not done with the pentagram like some toons would expect. Instead, he has his own sigil thanks to what Joey did, and that sigil is what you see in the ritual room.

Here’s a few pictures for those of you who don’t know what I mean!

Every now and then though, I think I could take it a step further and make it so that his name needs to be spelled by what numbers the letter are, and in Roman numerals in between the two outer circles.

More BATIM x Epic Mickey AU info!

Bendy, Alice, Boris, and other toons are “ink toons”, meaning they can ingest ink a-okay and might sweat ink a little bit if it’s too hot, but Bendy takes this to another level thanks to the ritual Joey did. The term is a bit more literal with him; He regrows limbs, has issues with most liquids if the ink keeping him together isn’t thick enough, and he can melt into a puddle of ink on command.

This all happened after the ritual, though, so Boris and Alice are surprised to see it since he didn’t do it in the cartoons.

Oswald, Gus, Ortensia, and a few others have seen this and are a little used to seeing Bendy’s face half covered in ink when he’s upset. It’s also thanks to comforting him that they learned the best ways to wash out ink from their fur, off their skin, and out of their clothes. They only got a look at Bendy’s monster form once.

OKay, instead of Mickey and Oswald meeting Bendy in his toon form and his ink demon form being revealed later, what about the opposite? Ink demon bendy being befriended by them and showing his toon form once he feels safe with them?

This is a small rant about the BATIM Epic Mickey AU, still unnamed, specifically about four lyrics from Devil’s Swing that really reminded me of this story and why.

Was only the beginning

The ending of the book was Joey talking about this “Bendyland” park he wanted to build. While this wasn’t exactly the bad thing, it fueled Joey’s urge to better his career. He wanted things to be bigger and better, so to speak, and he started to get consumed by this desire.

Ink incarnate, that’s sinning

This line talks about when Joey started messing with the ink machine and demonic rituals. After Bendy failed to be perfect, to be the way Joey wanted, because he was lacking a soul, Joey began to use people to try to make cartoons. For whatever reason, all attempts at Bendy still failed. The sacrificing of people and demonic rituals is “that’s sinning”.

After reading The Illusion Of Living, I have a new idea for a BATIM x Epic Mickey crossover!

To any of you who haven’t read it, there’s a part where Joey Draw talks about building an amusement park to help bring his philosophy, his way of seeing the world, to life. It’s called Bendyland, or that’s what he says he’s been calling it.

It has four “worlds” or “lands”. It was originally “world”, but Bert, the guy helping to design and building it, suggested that they be called “land” instead.

There’s Dark Land, Light Land, Tiny Land, and Big Land. The Dark Land would be Bendy’s area, Light Land would be where Alice Angel stays, Tiny Land belongs to Boris, and Big Land goes to the Butcher Gang.

Another bit of explanation; A lot of places in Wasteland are based off of Disneyland thanks to Oswald trying to mimic it to build a great place to live for his fellow forgotten toons.

One day, the citizens of Wasteland notice a new place that showed up outside the borders of Wasteland…
