I rewatched The Night Manager and then checked out the first episode of the Hindi adaptation and who knew you could actually make it even grimmer?
That said, I really do hope that the second season keeps Olivia Coleman somehow. She was absolutely the very best thing in season 1 as far as I'm concerned. Considering the ending of the novel is absolutely nothing at all like the ending of the series, I am wondering if David Farr is going to come up with a new plot based on the fact that Jonathan Pine stole $300 million from an illegal arms sale, is still technically a criminal who stole from his employers, and killed a fictional drug dealer in Devon, and is probably going to be on the run for the rest of his natural life.
I do find it fascinating that they very very deliberately never address where Pine transferred the money to, after he realised he was on his own and had zero resources, and had to bash together his own plan to ensure Jed's freedom (I genuinely believe he did not care about his own life at that point).
There's something so wistful and sad about Jed not realising that he is absolutely 100% never going to visit her in America. That he is letting her go believing that it is possible, despite knowing that he has no passport, no new identity, and is a murderer who should never be around her or her child.
Although she always seemed a bit dim, she was smart enough to throw suspicion onto Corky despite being in the dark in a negligee in an army camp full of mercenaries with a man she now knows has paid for all her lovely dresses with blood money since before she even met him.
Considering the entire story began because of Pine copying Samira's list without her knowledge and giving it to his yachting buddy Russell Tovey and basically signing her death warrant, it wouldn't surprise me even a little bit if Angela gets a call out of the blue at her daughter's fourth birthday from an unknown number with yet another packet of intelligence that Pine has stumbled over.
He seems the type to decide if he's going to live with all that blood on his hands, he might as well keep on taking down the Richard Ropers of the world.

How to Crack HAS/HPAS Exam on the First Attempt: A Success Roadmap
Cracking the Himachal Administrative Services (HAS) or Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services (HPAS) exam on the first attempt is the ultimate goal for many aspirants. Achieving this requires a well-structured strategy, dedication, and smart work. While the examination is challenging due to the vast syllabus and competition, it is absolutely possible to succeed with the right approach.
In this blog, we will break down the success roadmap that will guide you through each step of your preparation journey, from understanding the exam pattern to mastering the art of answer writing.
1. Understand the Exam Pattern and Syllabus Thoroughly
The first and most crucial step in cracking the HAS/HPAS exam is to gain a crystal-clear understanding of the exam pattern and syllabus. The exam consists of three stages:
Prelims (Objective Type)
Two papers: General Studies and Aptitude Test.
Both papers are of 200 marks each.
Mains (Descriptive Type)
8 papers in total, including:
English
Hindi
Essay
General Studies Papers I, II, and III
Optional Subject Papers I and II
Interview (Personality Test)
The final stage is an interview round, which assesses your personality and suitability for a career in civil services.
Action Plan:
Download the official syllabus and make it your constant companion. Familiarize yourself with each topic.
Break down the syllabus into smaller parts and assign timeframes for each.
2. Create a Practical Study Schedule
One of the most common mistakes aspirants make is jumping into preparation without a structured plan. To crack the HAS/HPAS exam on the first attempt, you need a realistic and manageable study schedule that covers all areas of the syllabus.
Action Plan:
Divide your day into focused study slots, dedicating time to each subject based on its weightage.
Include time for revision, as revisiting topics regularly helps retain information.
Dedicate the first few hours of your day to General Studies (for Prelims) and Answer Writing Practice (for Mains).
Set aside time for current affairs every day.
3. Focus on Quality Study Materials
The key to smart preparation is studying the right material. Many aspirants make the mistake of reading from too many sources, which often leads to confusion. Instead, focus on high-quality, limited resources that cover the syllabus comprehensively.
Action Plan:
Standard Books: Stick to recommended books like NCERTs for basics, Laxmikanth for Polity, and Spectrum for History.
Coaching Material: If you are enrolled in institutes like Jokta Academy or Allied Coaching in Chandigarh, follow their study materials diligently, as they are often well-tailored to the exam.
Online Resources: Supplement your preparation with reliable online resources for topics like current affairs, reports, and economic updates.
Current Affairs: Regularly follow newspapers like The Hindu or Indian Express and magazines such as Yojana for a balanced view on national and international events.
4. Master Current Affairs
In both the Prelims and Mains stages of HAS/HPAS, current affairs play a pivotal role. These not only include national and international events but also state-specific issues related to Himachal Pradesh. Therefore, a focused and consistent preparation for current affairs is necessary.
Action Plan:
Follow daily news updates and make brief notes for revision.
Read about Himachal Pradesh-specific issues such as state policies, cultural events, economic developments, and environmental concerns.
Join monthly current affairs programs provided by coaching institutes like Jokta Academy that focus on precise content relevant to the exam.
5. Take Regular Mock Tests and Analyze Performance
Mock tests are crucial in exam preparation as they not only assess your knowledge but also help in improving your time management and accuracy. Regular mock tests simulate the actual exam conditions and prepare you for the pressure of the real exam.
Action Plan:
Enroll in test series from reputed coaching centers like Jokta Academy or Allied Coaching to get a better understanding of your strengths and weaknesses.
After each test, analyze your mistakes and improve on weak areas.
For Mains, practice writing answers regularly to improve your speed and clarity of expression.
6. Develop a Strategy for Both Prelims and Mains
The approach for Prelims and Mains should be slightly different, given the nature of the questions. Prelims is more about speed and accuracy, while Mains is about depth of knowledge and quality of answers.
Action Plan for Prelims:
Prioritize high-scoring areas like Indian Polity, History, and General Science.
Work on improving your accuracy in the Aptitude Test (CSAT) as it is qualifying in nature.
Action Plan for Mains:
Practice essay writing and work on structuring your answers clearly and coherently.
Focus heavily on optional subject preparation as it can make or break your chances in the Mains exam.
In General Studies, aim to write concise and well-structured answers that reflect deep understanding.
7. Work on Your Personality for the Interview
If you qualify for the interview stage, half the battle is already won. However, clearing the interview requires more than just knowledge – you need confidence, communication skills, and the right attitude.
Action Plan:
Participate in mock interviews conducted by your coaching institute to familiarize yourself with the interview process.
Focus on personality development: read books, stay updated on current issues, and practice articulating your thoughts clearly.
Be prepared for questions related to Himachal Pradesh: culture, geography, socio-economic issues, and government policies.
8. Stay Consistent and Motivated
The journey of cracking HAS/HPAS on the first attempt is long and requires immense patience. Staying consistent with your preparation and maintaining motivation is key.
Action Plan:
Set small, achievable goals for each week, and reward yourself when you meet them.
Stay connected with mentors and peers who are on a similar journey for continuous motivation.
Take short breaks, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and manage stress through exercise or meditation.
Conclusion
Cracking the HAS/HPAS exam on the first attempt is no easy feat, but with the right strategy, dedication, and focus, it is entirely possible. By understanding the exam pattern, creating a solid study schedule, mastering current affairs, and practicing regularly through mock tests, you can set yourself up for success. Coaching institutes like Jokta Academy and Allied Coaching in Chandigarh provide invaluable support through structured guidance, expert faculty, and mock tests.
