Prompt #17: Scalekin (EXTRA CREDIT)

For FFXIVWrite2023 Character: Neoma Eltanin Warnings: None

Neoma was no stranger to insults. During her younger years growing up in the then still Garlean-occupied regions of Yanxia, the Garlean soldiers enjoyed calling Au Ra foul names like 'lizards' and the like. Even whe she first set foot in Eorzea she was given peculiar looks because of her scales and horns. But in time, it got better. People got used to seeing her kind roaming and settling in these lands. Now it had been long since she last encountered anyone troubled by what she was.

Well, until now.

“You are one in the same. Conniving, deceitful, patient. I will never trust one of you for as long as I breath so your 'help' means nothing to me, you foolish thing.”

'Scalekin'. She had never been called that before. It was a strange kind of insult to her, and one that felt unfair... But she also understood why it was given to her.

Many Ishgardians were unnerved about Au Ra, to say the least. It was little wonder; the scales and horns made them think of dragons. 'Scalekin'. It only stood to reason that their fears and uncertainty to view people that looked half dragon half man to them was fathomable, to a degree.

However, Mattisaux hated her very existence in a way she had never experienced before. Not compared to other Ishgardians, not even compared to the cruel treatment by the Garleans. She knew he would have hurt her long ago was he not bound by a delicate promise. A promise he had yet to break.

It was disappointing to her, that he refused to see reason. His hatred for dragonkind burned so deep it seemed to have scorched a pitch black hole in his heart, a hole that he kept feeding with his rage and thirst for their blood. A cycle of pain he relished.

Her words would not reach him. Her actions were invisible to him. He only saw what he convinced himself she could be, and nothing more.

A 'scalekin'.

He was stubborn, to say the least. But so was she. She knew he was wrong, as much as he refused to believe otherwise. She would not be so easily discouraged, no matter how many unpleasant things he called her or threats he would make.

Someday, she would prove him wrong.

Which OCs that are not yours do you most admire? What is it about that character that you find impressive or engaging?

I adore all my friends' OCs for different reasons! So in no particular order, I will list a few random ones:

@blueberryaesthetics Adellenne! Such long and rich history! She has been through so much, gone through so much development, experienced crazy things and it all shows! Her depth is impressive and paves the way for a vast amount of inspiration. I am very honored to have a wonderful ship between her and Khu!

@neoma-eltanin Erjon! The gun bun boy might be rather new to the rooster, but he is such a Character. That kind of character you just want to laugh at, groan in frustraion and cry about all at once. Everytime he opens his mouth it is an Experience. Or a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get.

@the-baschet Mattisaux! Who doesn't love an unapologetically rude character? Everytime I read or hear something about him I just get curious to know more and the way he interacts just makes you speechless, for both good and bad(good kind of bad)! His complexity and true to concept is amazing!

@umbralsound-xiv 's Bexy I always find fun to interact with because she makes for such interesting interactions with my boys! And also one of those characters with a long history to make for good depth!

@sayurifellfrost 's poor soul, Sayuri will just show up with some great surprises on occasion that one always look forward to. Always fun to learn more about them every time I see them around!

OCTAfan's Obscure and Weird Musical Instruments Tournament Round 1 part 3: Cristal Baschet VS Pipe Organ

A very, VERY weird instrument, the Cristal Baschet is not so much an instrument as a Musical sculpture. Despite this, it's still very cool and alien looking AND sounding. In order to play, the glass rods that acts like the keys needs to be wet, similar to a glass harp, and is stroked by a wet hand. It creates rather angelic and otherworldly sounds, and was used for the Interstellar theme.

Rather familiar yet strange, the Pipe organ is one of the largest instrument on this list. It is both a keyed instrument and a wind instrument, using several keyboards, including a foot keyboard! It also have several knobs that are used to control the sounds it makes, and have a LOT of pipes that creates the sound.
