Napoli decider make or break for Setien’s haphazard Barcelona

The tie is balanced at 1-1 following February’s first leg in Naples, with the victor earning a ticket to the final eight tournament in Lisbon later in the month, a…

godDAMN the UCL today was insane
thoughts from a dumb american
I couldn't watch it live, but the number of times I refreshed live updates and saw another goal here and another one there got me hyped af
Napoli putting 10 past Ajax in 2 matches to make it to the knockout rounds is impressive props to them (plus 1st in Serie A I see you Napoli)
idk much abt atletico or brugge but brugge leading their group and getting the point with 10 men is awesome (again i couldn't watch the games so not sure if either side actually played well)
idk that much abt leverkusen or porto either but porto kinda deconstructed leverkusen from the looks of the scoreline
we all knew bayern was going to win and i love that muller scored bc he's underrated imo (also viktoria plzen put 2 past Bayern 👀)
okkkkk liverpool absolutely smashed, destroyed, carved apart - however you want to say it - rangers and genuinely every time i refreshed, there was a new goal, particularly when salah got his hat trick (fastest in ucl history?) and elliot scored his - the power of Klopp, huh?
Barcelona still have work to do, don't they but the scoreline went back and forth and thank god Barca had Lewa or they would've been embarrassed
Marseille winning vs Sporting is eh i mean im a spurs fan so that spurs-marseille game is looking increasingly important but after sporting's red card(s? -damn) marseille had it covered
and to my beloved spurs i mean...what can i say? Sonny scored 2 (including a beauty of a volley apparently) and Kane could've had to from the penalty spot but blasted one over in the 91st???? Unlike him...and there was a tiny bit of a scare with Eintracht's late goal but they came through to get those points
ummm yeah that's it lol can't wait for MD5

Twitter round-up
Chad: What do we have to do to not put out a line-up with Gini, Hendo, and Fabinho as a midfield three?! The line-up screams for an Oxlade-Chamberlain or Keita type player!
Jonny: I just don’t see any reasoning why we aren’t rotating the midfield tonight with Ox, Keita or even both.
Ryan: First match I’ll be missing in full this season. Gutted it’s the #UCL home opener but hoping to get out of class to some good news!
You know where to follow full coverage, Ryan…

They’ve arrived…
18:55: The Salzburg fans are squeezing every last bit of enjoyment out of this Champions League orange.
Sorry that was a bizarre metaphor, I’ve been watching too much Great British Bake Off.
Thousands of the parading through the streets on route to Anfield. Should make for a cracking atmosphere tonight.
Starting XI
18:50: No surprises in Jurgen Klopp’s team selection with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firming all spearheading the attack.
We knew Joel Matip wouldn’t feature having suffered an injury – so Joe Gomez partners Virgil Van Dijk in the middle of defence.
Liverpool XI: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Mane, Salah, Firmino.
Subs: Kelleher, Lovren, Milner, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Origi.
BREAKING: Liverpool fined
18:45: Liverpool have been fined £200,000, of which £100,000 is suspended, for fielding an ineligible player in a Carabao Cup match against MK Dons on September 25.
The issue surrounds midfielder Pedro Chirivella, who came off the bench in the 63rd minute of the 2-0 victory, and the absence of an international transfer certificate – required after the 22-year-old returned from a loan spell with Spanish club Extremadura last season.
The English Football League said in a statement: “Following a comprehensive review of all the evidence, the board determined that it wasn’t appropriate to expel the club from the competition because of a number of mitigating factors.”
Avoided being kicked out of the competition, so that’s kind of a win, right?

Happy home for holders
18:40: Champions League football returns to Anfield for the first time since that memorable 4-0 win against Barcelona in May, a night which has gone down in history as one of the best comebacks in the history of the competition.
While the Reds, unbeaten at home in the competition since 2014, are not likely to produce anything as dramatic as that when they host RB Salzburg, they do need a win to get the defence of their crown up and running after defeat against Napoli a fortnight ago.

Evening…
18:30: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Champions League.
Before we start, can we have a pact NOT to reveal any spoilers from The Apprentice tonight?
I’ll download it from the train home and want to be surprised when idiot A does something stupid and idiot B somehow surpasses it with something incredibly dumb.
Anyway… big night of European action with the defending champions Liverpool back at Anfield for the first time.
The Reds are understandably heavy favourites to return to winning ways – but the visitors shouldn’t be underestimated. I’ll explain why shortly…
LIVERPOOL vs RB SALZBURG – TEAM NEWS
Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip will miss the Champions League visit of Red Bull Salzburg with a knock.
It is likely to mean a recall for Joe Gomez, who has been restricted to just five appearances this season, alongside Virgil Van Dijk.
Midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri has not recovered from a calf injury while goalkeeper Alisson Becker (also calf) is back in training but not available for Wednesday.
Liverpool provisional squad: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane, Kelleher, Lovren, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita, Lallana, Origi, Brewster.

Champions League Pot Explanation
There have been a couple posts about Champions League pots for next season. I hope this post is a definitive explanation of everything that can affect which pot Tottenham are in for next season’s group stage draw.
If we WIN the Champions League Final on June 1, we would be entitled to be in pot 1, so everything from this point on in this post assumes we lose that match and Liverpool win it.
The eight teams in pot 1 for next season’s draw will be:
2019 UCL winners: Liverpool (hopefully not)
2019 UEL winners: Woolwich or Chelsea
2019 La Liga winners: Barcelona
2019 EPL winners: Manchester City
2019 Serie A winners: Juventus
2019 Bundesliga winners: Bayern Munich
2019 Ligue 1 winners: PSG
2019 Russian Premier League winners: Zenit St. Petersburg
Pots 2-4 are based solely on Club Coefficient. It is worth noting that if a club’s coefficient is lower than its nation’s, its nation’s coefficient is used instead. This is not relevant to us as you cannot gain negative coefficient points and our coefficient of 78 is higher than Spain, the top country, which has a coefficient under 21.
These are the UEFA Club Coefficient rankings:
x denotes that a club is in pot 1
y denotes that a club has qualified for next season’s group stage but not in pot 1
z denotes that a club cannot qualify for next season’s group stage
w denotes that a club could still qualify for next season’s group stage, but not in pot 1
v denotes that if a franchise were to qualify for next season’s group stage, they would be in pot 1
u denotes that a club has qualified for next season’s group stage but may or may not be in pot 1
y-Real Madrid 146
x-Barcelona 138
x-Bayern 128
y-Atletico Madrid 127
x-Juventus 124
x-Manchester City 106
z-Sevilla 104
x-PSG 103
v-Woolwich 101*
w-Porto 93
x-Liverpool 89
u-Chelsea 85
y-Dortmund 85
w-Roma 81
y-Napoli 80
y-Shakhtar 80
y-Tottenham 78**
z-Manchester United 78
x-Zenit 72
*If Woolwich win the UEL final without a penalty shootout they would pass PSG.
**If we win the UCL final without a penalty shootout we would pass Shakhtar and Napoli but would qualify for pot 1 as stated earlier.
To simplify, here are the teams which could be in pot 2. Eight teams will be in Pot 2.
Real Madrid 146
Atletico Madrid 127
w-Porto 93
u-Chelsea 85
Dortmund 85
w-Roma 81
Napoli 80
Shakhtar 80
Tottenham 78
As we are in 9th, we need for only one of Porto, Chelsea, and Roma to not be in Pot 2
Porto will come into the third (out of 4) qualifying rounds next season. If they fail to win 2 two-legged qualifying ties, they would be relegated to the Europa League and we would get pot 2.
Chelsea winning the Europa League final vs. Woolwich would move them to pot 1 and cement our spot in pot 2
Roma finishing outside the top 4 in Serie A would move us into pot 2
The Serie A table (All relevant teams have one more match to play) currently reads:
Atalanta 66, +29
Inter 66, +23
Milan 65, +18
Roma 63, +17
So Roma would have to win at home to Parma (12th) and have to have 2 of the following happen just to get level on points:
Atalanta lose at home to Sassuolo (10th)
Inter lose at home to Empoli (17th and could very realistically go down)
Milan drop points away to SPAL (11th)
Serie A use a head-to-head tiebreaker system. Here are the results between the teams in question:
x| Atalanta | Inter | Milan | Roma
------|-----------|------|------|--------
Atalanta | x | 4-1 | 1-3 | 3-3
Inter | 0-0 | x | 1-0 | 1-1
Milan | 2-2 | 2-3 | x | 2-1
Roma | 3-3 | 2-2 | 1-1 | x
After the tiebreakers are applied as below, we can see that Roma would have to win and Milan would have to lose just for Roma to have a chance.
Atalanta or Inter would have to lose as well and Roma would have to make up goal difference, or Atalanta and Inter would both have to lose (in this scenario Roma would not have to make up goal difference).
Head to heads of possible combinations of tied teams for the last UCL spot which include Roma (all would be on 66 points in a tie): Atalanta, Inter, Milan, Roma (Atalanta, Inter both lose, Milan draw) Pts GD 3 Inter 9 -1 4 Milan 8 +1 5 Atalanta 7 +1 6 Roma 5 -1
Roma would finish 6th and we would be in pot 2
Atalanta, Inter, Roma (Atalanta, Inter both lose, Milan don’t draw) Pts GD 3/4 Atalanta 6 +3 4/5 Roma 4 0 5/6 Inter 3 -3
If Milan win, Roma would finish 5th and we would be in pot 2. If Milan lose, Roma would be in pot 2
Atalanta, Milan, Roma (Atalanta lose, Inter don’t lose, Milan draw) Pts GD 4 Milan 8 +3 5 Roma 3 -1 6 Atalanta 3 -2
Roma would finish 5th and we would be in pot 2
Atalanta, Roma (Atalanta lose, Inter don’t lose, Milan lose) The head-to head finished 6-6 so it would come down to goal difference in the league. Atalanta have a goal difference of +29, Roma have +17. Atalanta have scored 74 goals, Roma have 64.
Roma would need to overturn a goal difference of 12 and a goals scored deficit of 10 or we would be in pot 2
Inter, Milan, Roma (Atalanta don’t lose, Inter lose, Milan draw) Pts GD 4 Inter 8 +2 5 Milan 4 -1 6 Roma 3 -1
Roma would finish 6th and we would be in pot 2
Inter, Roma (Atalanta don’t lose, Inter lose, Milan lose) The head to head finished 3-3 so it would come down to goal difference in the league. Inter have a goal difference of +23, Roma have +17. Inter have scored 55 goals, Roma have 64.
Roma would need to overturn a goal difference of 6 or we would be in pot 2
TL;DR: if Milan don’t lose next week we are in pot 2.
If City are banned from Europe for next season:
One of Woolwich or Chelsea would be in pot 2 but we would still just need Roma or Porto to miss out on the group stage.
I would also say that if City do get a ban, it is likely to be for 2020-2021 as the qualifiers start in just over a month for next season’s Champions League.
I fully expect the formatting to be fucked So I might have to fix it.
Feel free to point out any errors.

Drogba vs Eto’o: Who was the greater African striker?
[caption id="attachment_798459" align="alignnone" width="512"] Didier Drogba, Ivory Coast National Soccer Team, left, with Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon National Soccer team reacts during a meeting before a training session in St-Gratien, outside Paris, France. Friday, May 28, 2010. (AP Photo/Jacques Brinon)[/caption] Each gamer outlined a technology and are more likely to go down because the continent’s most interesting…however who’s primary? Soccer rivalries give the game an additional edge; simply assume Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi, Pele vs Diego Maradona and even Patrick Vieira vs Roy Keane. Whereas debates over who’s the higher might typically be taken too far by critics or followers of the aforementioned gamers, it offers the sport extra spice and which means. In Africa, there’s in all probability no debate higher than Didier Drogba vs Samuel Eto’o, two contrasting strikers whose influence at residence and overseas within the 2000s and early 2010s can’t be understated. The previous was a late bloomer, finest identified for his tempo and energy at Olympique Marseille and Chelsea, who possessed an uncanny knack for delivering within the massive video games. The opposite was probably the greatest exports from Cameroon within the final twenty years, taking part in with the perfect and thriving in varied methods and successful practically each main trophy for membership and nation. When he appears to be like again on his profession, the Ivory Coast legend will probably keep in mind a quick encounter with Jose Mourinho within the Stade Velodrome tunnel when Marseille hosted Porto within the 2003-04 Champions League marketing campaign. The Portuguese coach supposedly praised the frontman and promised to signal him when he had the assets…an assurance he delivered on when he turned Chelsea boss. It was the ex-Porto coach who turned the striker into one of many feared frontmen in Europe, along with his ingenious man-management getting the very best out of the highly effective striker. Whereas Drogba’s numbers over the course of his profession might not have been prolific, and there have been additionally persistent diving accusations thrown at him, there’s a faculty of thought which believes his influence shouldn’t be measured by numbers alone. Folks with this notion have a tendency to have a look at the frontman’s all-round contributions to Chelsea from 2004 to 2012 which included his defensive enter, hold-up play, selflessness and fairly spectacular help numbers. He had the persona and affect to alter video games without having to attain and help, traits that don’t fairly present up on shiny metrics at the moment. Nonetheless, he scored targets; massive targets that helped the Blues win lots of their trophies to determine the West London membership as one of many main sides on the continent. None got here larger than his immaculate show of management and cojones within the London aspect’s 2012 Champions League run which culminated of their first and solely winners’ medal to this point. Drogba scored decisive strikes of their last group stage sport with Valencia on the Bridge, however, added vital targets towards Napoli, Barcelona and Bayern Munich within the last. Granted, he rode his luck just a little, having conceded penalties within the semi-final and last, however he was in all probability due some fortune after close to misses in earlier years and the 2008 last crimson card towards Manchester United. The key sticking level was his Ivory Coast profession which noticed him fail to win any worldwide titles, regardless of having the posh of the so-called Golden Technology that included the Toure brothers, Kolo and Yaya. Whereas the two-time African Participant of the 12 months had no title to point out for 65 worldwide targets, nevertheless, his function in ending a five-year civil warfare in his nation will ceaselessly paint him a hero within the eyes of his compatriots. He netted 168 targets and 86 assists in 381 matches for Chelsea, secured 4 Premier League titles in addition to a number of cup wins in England and successes in Turkey and the US over the course of his profession. 44 UCL targets, 14 greater than Eto’o managed, additionally confirmed he turned it on European nights, which is totally no shock for somebody as clutch as Drogba. Eto’o, then again, had the pure expertise and did terribly nicely to reside as much as his precocious potential. It’s not everybody who will get an opportunity for a World Cup debut at 17, simply over a 12 months after his maiden worldwide look as a 15-year-old. His superiority over Drogba is mirrored within the worldwide area, the place he loved success taking part in for the Indomitable Lions; successful Olympic gold as soon as, and claiming the Africa Cup of Nations on two events. No one has extra Afcon targets than the previous Actual Madrid ahead (18) and it’s no shock he’s received double the Ivorian’s Footballer of the 12 months awards. Even in membership soccer at Barcelona and Internazionale, the ahead claimed two trebles in 2008-09 and 2009-10 – the fourth participant in historical past to attain the feat – and his tendency to thrive in a number of tactical schemes highlighted his well-rounded nature. That is an antithesis of Drogba who solely thrived as a centre-forward and infrequently thrived when paired with one other striker. What made Eto’o additional particular wasn’t simply his spectacular trophy haul, but additionally his big-game mentality to ship at any time when his sides have been in difficult conditions. A pertinent instance was in Barcelona’s 2006 Champions League last win over Arsenal, a sport the Cameroon star was named Man of the Match. He received the free-kick that led to Jens Lehmann’s early dismissal earlier than netting the equalizer with 15 minutes to play within the Spanish aspect’s eventual 2-1 victory. As well as, he scored the opening aim within the 2009 last win over Manchester United too, opening the scoring within the 10th-minute of a 2-Zero success, whereas he confirmed his selflessness a 12 months later by giving his all in a defensive proper wing function as Mourinho’s counter-attacking Inter Milan beat Bayern 2-0. In addition to the aforementioned moments, the ex-Cameroon frontman scored vital strikes within the 2000 Afcon last towards Nigeria and scored one of many targets within the Olympics last win over Spain to erase a two-goal deficit and pressure extra-time – the Central African nation have been to win on penalties. Eto’o not solely possessed the big-game nous of Drogba, however had the method and tactical data to function and thrive in several ways and formations. The ex-Barca star scored a aim each two video games over the course of his membership profession (359 targets in 718 video games) versus the Ivorian who managed a aim each 2.three matches (300 targets in 686 appearances). Nonetheless, the Chelsea legend arrange extra targets – 122 to 116 – regardless of taking part in fewer video games and accruing lesser minutes over the course of their careers. The Ivory Coast legend will in all probability go down as one of many nice African forwards of all time however Eto’o is definitely a step above on this rivalry. The Indomitable Lions’ high scorer just isn’t solely the best ever African striker, however arguably additionally the very best ever to have graced the continent. source: https://ghanasoccernet.com/

Los Blancos haven’t won any of their last three games, losing both of their last two to Levante and Manchester City.
“It’s a delicate moment because we’ve not won in our stadium for three games now,” Zidane said in his pre-match press conference, referring to the City loss, the Celta Vigo draw and the Real Sociedad Copa del Rey exit.
“But those that know football know that these things can happen.
“We need positive support.
“We’re not listening to what is being said, we need our fans with us from the first minute to the last.
“I understand that people can be annoyed, but we need our fans and we’re going to give everything.
“Everyone can criticize and this is what the media do.
“We lost two games and I’m going to get criticized.

UEFA Champions League Match Previews – 18th September Wednesday
Dinamo Zagreb v Atalanta
Two of the relatively smaller teams meet in the Croatian capital on Wednesday night and it’s the hipsters choice of fixtures. Atalanta were supremely impressive last season and have been for a while now under their astute manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
La Dea play an unusual formation but its one that gets the best out of their key players. Duvan Zapata was one of Serie A’s top scorers last season and after struggling to nail down a starting berth at Napoli he has thrived in Bergamo. Gasperini has clearly made an effort to go away from the temptation to play the Colombian as a target man and to use his physicality with his back to goal, instead Zapata is charged with meeting crosses and his predatory instincts have been shown off in the last couple of campaigns.
Behind him Josip Ilicic and Alejandro Gomez have freedom to roam and exploit gaps between opposition midfield and defence. Wing backs Hans Hateboer and Robin Gosens are charged with providing width and getting balls into the box. It’s all makes for a really good watch and they’re not going to alter their approach in the Champions League, I think they have the potential to bloody a few noses in this competition.
Dinamo Zagreb got past Hungarian side Ferencvaros in the in the second to last qualifier and they were ruthless in doing so, winning 4-0 in Budapest after a 1-1 draw on home turf. They then defeated Rosenberg over two legs to qualify for the group stages, in all fairness it was quite a fortunate route for the Modri.
To have any chance of getting out of their group you’d think they’d have this game as a possible ‘must win’. They can make it hostile at their Stadion Maksimir but on the face of it, it looks like a battle for second between themselves, Atalanta and Shakhtar Donetsk. They will get chances given the poor defence of Atalanta, the Italians have conceded in each of their Serie A games this season, leaking 6 goals. They have though scored 7, so it’s obvious where their strengths and weaknesses lie.
Dinamo have the likes of Dani Olmo and Bruno Petkovic going forward and they’ll be keen to build on their strong seasons. But ultimately I’m banking on Atalanta to make it an entertaining and end to end affair and with over 2.5 goals priced up at just shy of even-money it has to be worth taking. Rarely will you get a flat 2.5 line involving the Bergamo boys, 74% of their Serie A games last season did so, therefore when they rarely come about it would be rude not to.
Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.50 goals at 1.960
PSG v Real Madrid
This is probably the tie of round 1 along with Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona and I expect these two heavyweights to serve up an entertaining game.
There’s been plenty of furore surrounding Neymar in Paris, the clubs Ultras made their feelings heard when they hosted Strasbourg at the weekend but it was the Brazilian star who saved their blushes, scoring an outrageous last minute winner with an overhead kick. I think with his ego, the hate from sections of the crowd will get him some much needed fire. He moved to PSG to get firmly in the reckoning for the Ballon D’or, well he’s going to have to perform in the competition if he wants to do so.
Thomas Tuchel has took a different method in terms of recruitment this season, bringing in much needed midfield steel in the form of Idrissa Gueye and Andre Herrera. That means they have a bit more balance and Tuchel can play Marquinhos in his favoured centre half role rather than shoehorning him into defensive midfield. Even with that added balance they could get drawn into a goal heavy game with Real Madrid coming to town.
The Galacticos have looked unconvincing so far, especially at the back and it’s understandable to see the hosts as 6/5 favourites given that. Zinedine Zidane is back in charge and goals were usually the way to go in games under him. This season Los Blancos have conceded in each of their four games despite only playing against Real Valladolid, Levante, Celta Vigo and Villarreal. 3 of those four games saw over 3.5 goals land and if they can resonate that form into the European stage then the 1.730 on over 2.75 goals looks more than worthy of a punt.
With the attacking talent on show I’d be amazed if there was a clean sheet involved. Bale, Hazard, Benzema, Neymar, M’bappe, Icardi and co should serve up a goal filled game. This selection would see us profit should 3 or more goals be scored with a half stakes win should exactly 3 be scored and a full payout if there’s any more than that.
Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.75 goals at 1.730
Bayer Leverkusen v Lokomotiv Moscow
Another interesting side to watch in this competition is Bayer Leverkusen. Backed well by the pharmaceutical giant, Leverkusen have managed to sneak their way back into the UCL
and they too have a very attacking and open playing style under former Ajax manager Peter Bosz.
‘Boszball’ has made for some goal heavy games this season. Die Werkself went down 4-0 at Dortmund over the weekend and it was deserved as they gave up 3.51 expected goals. Their defence is a worry with brother Lars and Sven Bender playing in a back four when they’re naturally more versed as midfielders.
Going forward though they have a wealth of options with the likes of Kai Havertz, Leon Bailey, Lucas Alario, Karim Bellarabi, Nadiem Amiri and Kevin Volland all vying for a starting berth. Bosz usually plays with four of those attackers and it’s therefore no surprise to see three of their four games so far this season break the 3 goal barrier.
Lokomotiv Moscow are the visitors to the BayerArena and they’ve seen 5/9 games in the Russian Premier league have three or more goals. Joao Mario is there now and he provides much needed creativity, Portuguese teammate Eder is an option up front as is Fedor Smolov. Aleksey Miranchuk is another player who can provide some spark in the final third and the Parovozy will fancy their chances of exploiting the space that will be left in their attacking half.
Once again goals look the play, over 2.5 goal line can be taken at 1.750 and I’m confident you’ll make money backing that line over the season whenever Leverkusen are involved.
Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.50 goals at 1.750

Champion’s League Matchday 4 is here, and we’re officially past the group stage halfway point. It’s now or never for some teams (and key players) to deliver. It’s Champions League time again, and as always we peruse the fixtures to see where the points may lie for our UCL Fantasy League Teams: TUESDAY 31ST OCTOBER Atletico Madrid vs Qarabag FK Basel vs CSKA Moscow Celtic vs Bayern Munich Manchester United vs Benfica Olympiakos FC vs Barcelona Paris Saint-Germain vs Anderlecht Roma vs Chelsea Sporting Lisbon vs Juventus WEDNESDAY 1ST NOVEMBER Besiktas vs Monaco Borussia Dortmund vs Apoel Nicosia FC Porto vs RB Leipzig Liverpool vs Maribor Napoli vs Manchester City Sevilla vs Spartak Moscow Shakhtar Donetsk vs Feyenoord Tottenham vs Real Madrid Each of these teams will be squaring off against the same opponent for the second time in 2 weeks as the group stage rolls over. As such, the results in the pseudo “first leg” games in Matchday 3 can inform our thinking. We’re going to marry this with form and fixtures to try to find the best sources for points at this critical phase. GOALKEEPER PICKS Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid - 6m) With just 2 points on the board from their opening 3 matches, Atletico Madrid will need to win here or else they can wave their waning Champions League hopes goodbye. An away draw against plucky Qarabag in matchday 3 means that nothing less than 3 points will do here — which makes the Atletico defense a strong shout for clean sheet returns. Alfonse Areola (PSG - 4.7m) An absolute bargain of a goalkeeper in the UCL fantasy game, the Parisian shot-stopper is a great shout for a clean sheet at home to group minnows Anderlect. PSG will need to do the needful here to stave off a resurgent Bayern Munich in their CL Group B. Andriy Pyatov (Shakhtar Donetsk - 5.0m) A trip to Ukraine is always a daunting challenge, and surely one that Feyenoord will not be looking forward to against a team in strong form. Shakhtar have placed themselves in a strong position with 6 points in UCL Group F, but will need to bag these points at home before rounding out their schedule against stalwarts Napoli and Manchester City. Loris Karius (Liverpool - ) Liverpool’s “Champions League keeper” could have finished a novel in UCL matchday 3 away against a woeful Maribor side, and can probably look forward to a pedestrian afternoon as the Slovenian minnows offer themselves up in front of the baying Klop. DEFENDER PICKS Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool - 4.0m) The young Liverpool wing back is a huge goal threat with free kicks in his locker and has been preferred for Champions League games. Look for him to back up his goal and clean sheet showing with another solid performance here. Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid - ) As mentioned above, a must win fixture for Atletico Madrid screams out clean sheet for the miserly defense at their lovely Wanda Metropolitano home base. With an added strong set piece threat, Godin is the pick of the lot. Thomas Meunier (PSG - ) He charges forward often with marauding runs into the opposition box that present a potential for goals and assists. The Belgian wing back represents the best route into the PSG back line. Up against Belgian champions Anderlect, he also has the added motivation of playing against familiar foes from his homeland. Alex Telles (Porto - ) With Besiktas storming through UCL Group G, it looks like a dogfight between Porto, RB Leipzig and Monaco for the second qualification spot. Porto will need to build on their solitary win here at home to a Leipzig outfit that has just emerged from two scathing back to back games against Bayern Munich -- making wing back Telles a strong shout for points. Antonio Valencia (Manchester United - ) The Manchester United captain will marshal a team bubbling following their massive win against Spurs in the Premier League. A win here could wrap up qualification for United atop UCL Group A, so expect a powerful performance from the Red Devils. MIDFIELDER PICKS Thiago Alcantara (Bayern Munich - ) With Robert Lewandowski sidelined through injury, and with a dearth of alternative striking options, much of Bayern’s offensive responsibilities will fall to their midfielders. Look for Spanish talisman Thiago to be at the center of Bayern’s best moves as they take on a porous Celtic outfit. Ricardo Quaresma (Besiktas - ) The Portuguese wizard has been instrumental for surprise frontrunners Besiktas as they waltzed through their group so far with 3 wins in 3. A win against Monaco in front of their raucous home support could seal qualification for them, so look for Quaresma to put on a show for the Turkish giants. Dele Alli (Tottenham - ) The long suffering Tottenham midfielder will finally make his UCL bow as he returns from a prolonged suspension. Real Madrid roll up to White Hart Lane suffering from a slew of injuries, especially in defense. What better way to introduce himself than by scoring against the holders? Bernard (Shakhtar Donetsk - 6.6m) The diminutive Brazilian will be key to Shakhtar’s offense as they take on visiting Dutch champs Feyenoord. If Shakhtar can do the needful here, expect Bernard to have a say in the proceedings. Saul (Atletico Madrid - ) The Spanish wunderkind is expected to feature prominently as Atletico aim to make a statement against the Azerbaijan minnows. FORWARD PICKS Wisam Ben Yedder (Sevilla - ) A shocking hiding at Spartak Moscow should illicit a reaction from Sevilla as they return to home comforts. This is a tight group, which means three points is critical here. Goal machine Ben Yedder will need to be at his best for the Spanish outfit. Vincent Aboubakar (Porto - ) The Cameroonian striker is simply on fire, registering on the score sheet in nearly all of Porto’s games. He will need to deliver the goods at home to Leipzig if Porto are to put themselves in a position to qualify from their group. Andriy Yarmolenko (Borussia Dortmund - ) With point man Aubameyang seemingly off form, we’re backing Ukrainian sensation Yarmolenko to deliver the goods here against the visiting Cypriot champions. This game is an absolute must-win for Dortmund if they are to stand any chance of progressing to the next round. Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United - ) Two blank games is his longest stretch without scoring for the season, such is the form of Manchester United striker Lukaku. With group qualification within reach, expect the Belgian powerhouse to get back to business against the visiting Benfica. Mo Salah (Liverpool - ) Free food will be on offer at Anfield with lowly Maribor in town. Expect Liverpool’s best attacking player, Salah to feast - especially if injury doubt Coutinho is ruled out of this one. #ChampionsLeague #UEFAChampionsLeague #RealMadrid
