Esoteric+Divine Composite: Suletta
Suletta's position as an amalgamation/twist on Miranda and Caliban is obvious along with Utena. But what are some of the lesser known? She's a character shaped with symbology ranging from norse and greek myth to alchemy. Fenrisulfr, Hercules, Hermes/Mercury, and the Red King.
Fenrir
I've already broken this down a bit in a previous analysis, and in light of the finale, she finally fulfills the Ragnarok prophecy.
The freed wolf who eclipses the 'sun', heralding an end to the Gods(Benerit and SAL)
And her method of devouring Odin Miorine is consuming her in holy matrimony as the new cycle of the world is born.
Hercules
This one might be a surprise, but it's true. Suletta is undeniably coded with Heracles/Hercules symbolism, beginning with his 12 labors. In the very first episode of GWitch, she slew the invincible Nemean Lion and 'skinned' his coat
And her final labor is the subjugation of Cerberus, the multi-headed dog of the underworld.
Take note, before Hercules descends and encounters Cerberus, he's inducted into the cult of Demeter and Persephone. Notrette as Anesidora is revealed to be our Demeter, chthonic goddess of agriculture. And prior to this battle, Suletta speaks with the Persephone of our tale, inducting her within the mysteries.
You can draw other parallels between the various herculean labors and Suletta's duels. Such as the Grassley battles echoing that of the Hydra or Elan/Peil as the man-eating Stymphalian birds.
Suletta's godlike strength suddenly doesn't seem like an accident, does it?
So why was this done, other than for fun symbolism? The answer all boils down to Hermeticism, as it often seems to. Specifically this painting of Hercules, called Allegory of Wisdom and Strength
I'm unsure if it's common to interpret this image as another symbol of As Above, So Below but it's clear to me Okouchi has. We have Hercules focused on earthly matters while the greek personification of wisdom, Sophia, is focused heavenward. The light of enlightenment crowns her brow. Both are in frame and not in conflict; As Above, So Below. Coincidentally (or not) Sophia is one possible ciphered translation for Baphomet; a blatant esoteric symbol of perfect unity.
Mercury/Hermes
This is of course obvious considering its in her name, but there's one mythological parallel I want to highlight. The tale of Persephone/Kore. It was Hermes who descended into the underworld and retrieved the 'defiled' Persephone, escorting her safely above and reuniting her with her mother
Suddenly, Shaddiq's dramatic comment about Miorine's defilement doesn't seem so off-color. They were intentionally harking to Persephone Mio who was taken by Hades, Prospera here.
The Red King
I've already discussed this a bit here, but let's recap. Suletta is derived from Soletta. Her signifying colors are Red and Gold as Holder, both key to the Red King. She was 'eaten' by a lion (aqua regia solution) before being reborn, her metaphorical sun blackened with despair (dissolving).
All of it culminating into a Great Work, banishing gundams, defeating SAL, and saving Eri; her Filius philosophorum (Philosopher's Child) All miracles.
Oh and finally married her White Queen ofc, though their union was cemented with a tomato by then. In GWitch's version of Theogony Hermes wed Persephone, accomplished the 12 herculean labors, created a philosopher's stone, and completed Ragnarok
Note: Considering the proper name of Fenrir, Fenrisulfr, Okouchi might've been trying to be cute. Sulfur girl indeed

Longlegs (2024)
Osgood Perkins is a director who wears his influences on his sleeve. Reference points are tattooed onto Longlegs. But while Silence of the Lambs gets tossed around as a point here due to the young FBI agent and her pas de deux with a crazed killer, "Twin Peaks" seems a much more apt comparison. While Agent Lee Harker is a dedicated and intuitive investigator, the film itself isn't terribly interested in the nitty-gritty of a procedural. Much like Dale Cooper, Lee's methods are somewhat unorthodox and arbitrary, revelations drawn as if by magic from the air due to her connection to the case. She's given a clue in the Longlegs cipher, but many of her observations seem to merely materialize. Perkins and the film are fare more interested in using these trappings as the backdrop to an atmosphere both wonderful and strange. But while I point to the Lynch and Frost television series in defense of this, the film still stands on its own. There are parallels to those antecedents--hell, this is like the darkest episode of "Gravity Falls" ever in its surrealism inflected with dark humor--but Longlegs commands its own visual language. Static, wide shots often define the frame, and obstruction of view due to elements like a door frame confining horror to the audience's darkest thoughts as it withholds direct depiction. The film jumps between 16mm recorded memories and the present, showing flashbacks as flawed recollections or fairy tales which bleed into the present experience of Lee. Yet overt darkness lurks too: the shadowy presence of Baphomet draws ever closer as Longlegs' unholy work comes closer to fruition. The glowing eyes of the demonic dolls evoke the likes of Rosemary's Baby, but the silhouette is unique to this film. Where the recent giallo homage MaXXXine suggests that Ti West has little more than genre pastiche available to him, images aping off earlier creators who did it better, Perkins, certainly in his visual presence, commands his own attention.
Horror in its odd way goes hand in hand well with humor. The seeds of this are planted early on, Lee clearly uncomfortable and overly serious when visiting her boss' family and shown his daughter's room. The Longlegs character leans all the way into the pearl-clutching notions of Satanism, all Alice Cooper posters and 666 iconography in Dale Kobble's abode. But, as the FBI puts it, his right to practice Satanism is protected in the Constitution, a statement delivered so seriously it would have made any "SNL" guest host crack if they had to say it under the circumstances. Between the deadly serious stakes of the story and the cheeky Ari Aster style needle drop that closes out the credits, this was meant to be taken about as seriously as a Tipper Gore rock music congressional hearing.
As much as I've praised the film, I do have to temper things and note that Perkins still needs to work on his writing. Tropes and such can be useful shorthand, but this film falters in navigating between beats. We know that Lee has a troubled relationship with her mother, for instance: she hesitates to call her and is badgered by uncomfortable questions about prayer. When Lee goes to her mother's home, it's clear she's a hoarder. So why does mom have to say she never gets rid of stuff? Context clues make that readily apparent! Fortunately, any weakness from the script is overcome by bravura performances from the central duo, Maika Monroe's multilayered catatonia played off against Nic Cage's psychosis.

I’m actually wondering something. We know that Aymr has the Crest of the Beast on it, making an allusion to Edelgard being a false messiah or AntiChrist figure of sorts. I’ve talked before about her emperor class serves as the basis for her Hegemon Form, and how it seems to align with the demon Baphomet. This gets driven further with the picture in her route’s epilogue with her holding an inversion of the Hand of Justice, a symbol of the divine right of kings, while invoking Napoleon’s coronation portrait.
But another element got me recently when I read the DC miniseries Kingdom Come. There’s this character, Magog, who is supposed to be presented as a false messiah figure embodying the worst of 90’s comics at the time. Part of that was him having golden curved horns, symbolic of him being the golden calf.
But then I thought, Edelgard’s post-timeskip designs also have golden horns, and her emperor design does have golden armor with the black feathers being an adornment rather than full on wings.
The golden calf was an idol the Israelites worshiped while Moses went up to get the ten commandments from God, for they did not know what became of him. It was a supposed deity they created for themselves, really pissing off God, who wanted to punish them for it but relented due to Moses asking to forgive them. However, those who continued to worship the calf were struck down by the Levites on Moses’s command in the service to God. The Levites were then ordained by God for slaying their neighbours, brothers, sons, etc.
This sounds like the situation for the Black Eagles if they choose to fight Edelgard. Following Byleth’s lead, they fight against Edelgard who bares her fangs against the Goddess (Cipher card name) and who is accused of trying to replace Sothis with herself. Byleth had been missing for five years, yet the BE’s left the Empire and their homes rather than support Edelgard. But at the same time, they know that fighting her would mean them fighting against their own countrymen and families, but this is the path that is meant to lead to liberation through Nirvana whereas Edelgard’s “liberation” in reality is a thinly disguised conquest of Fodlan by an oppressive tyrant.
So we have Edelgard’s design marking her as an antichrist, a false shepherd, a demon as well as the false god/golden calf. Really, from a Christian POV what Edelgard is meant to be is pretty well-conveyed through her design once you zero in on the details, which gets the meaning across even if the player isn’t aware of the Buddhist/Chinese symbolism surrounding Byleth.

BAPHOMET DECAY //
The actual image of a goat in a downward-pointing pentagram first appeared in the 1897 book La Clef de la Magie Noire by Stanislas de Guaita. It was this image that was later adopted as the official symbol—called the Sigil of Baphomet—of the Church of Satan, and continues to be used among Satanists.
Other representations:
1. An idol or image
2. Idol or image originally used by the Knights Templar, claimed by the Inquisition to seal their heresy.
3. The most well-known and recent depiction shown by Eliphas Lévi's 1854 Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie, consisting of a goat with a torch between the horns. This image is often used as a representation of Satan or some other hierarchy of Hell.
4. Suggested etymologies:
A. From the Greek 'baphe' and 'metis', meaning "baptism of wisdom".
B. Atbash cipher for the Goddess Sophia
C. Acronymn: 'Temp. ohp. Ab.' originating from the Latin 'Templi omnium hominum pacis abhas,' meaning "the father of universal peace among men."
Using felt tips and pastel pencils i created a half decayed and half alive Baphomet head. I also utilised a selection of linguistics to symbolise what each side stands for. It implies that even the darkest of symbols can be a ray of sunshine in others’ eyes, every being has a different version of hope, consequently, Baphomet may usually be known as a negative symbol but in their worshippers’ minds; it’s the master key to perfection.

Baphomet
The symbol of a man with a horned goat head and known as Baphomet has been associated with Satanism, witchcraft and secret societies since the 12th century. The Templar Knights confessed to worshiping a horned idol after they were submitted to the same gruesome torture as the heretics they had sought out.
What Is Baphomet?
Baphomet is the symbol of a goat-headed deity found in the history of occultism. He was allegedly worshiped as an idol by the Templar Knights in the 14th century, but can be traced back to earlier origins. The etymology of the word is believed to be French, a corruption of the word Mohammed from the Latin “Mahomet“. A particular image of Baphomet, created by Eliphas Levi in 1854, in his book Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie, became the most renowned depiction of the deity.
The Templar Knights
The Templar Knights were accused of worshipping a goat-headed figure or idol called Baphomet. When the Knights began to lose the power they had garnered during the crusades, but not their great wealth, the French King, Philip IV, accused them of the same crimes they had been accusing the heretics of. He had the Knights tortured and many of them killed in order to get his hands on their wealth. In the process of severe torture, some of the Knights confessed to the worship of idols.
At the time, the Church did not approve of the close relationship the Knights had with the Arabic people. During the crusades, the Knights stayed in Arab territories for long periods of time and found they had certain values which they shared with the Arabs, or Saracens as they were called then. The Knights were introduced to mysticism in the Arab territories and brought the knowledge back to Western culture, where it was a precursor to occultist practices such as alchemy, Gnosticism and Hermetism.
Eliphas Levi
In the 19th century, Levi, a catholic priest-in-training turned occultist, included an image of the horned god in his first occultist works. The image consisted of a humanoid figure with a horned goat head. One arm pointed up to the sky, and the other to the ground. The figure also had breasts and, instead of a phallus, a caduceus. To Levi, the figure represented the important elements in alchemy: balance in nature, androgyny, magic and the goat’s head – man’s ego and animalistic instincts. His horned deity figure became well-used in many occult practices thereafter, but unfortunately also led to one of the main misinterpretations of its meaning, as a representation of evil or the devil.
Sophia
Dr. Hugh Schonfield, a biblical scholar and one of the original members of the team who worked on the Dead Sea Scrolls, believed the word Baphomet translated into the Greek word Sophia, meaning “wisdom“, as well as “goddess“. Schonfield used a Jewish cipher called the Atbash cipher, which he had also applied to the Dead Sea Scrolls. In his book, The Passover Plot, Schonfield also purported the resurrected Jesus was not Jesus, but rather another man. He was quickly labelled an unbeliever, but was rather a spiritualist and supported fields like spirit channeling and parapsychology.
Ancient Sources
A goat-headed figure appears in many ancient religions from around the world. The Celtic god Cernunnos a shapeshifter and also the god of the hunt, is often shown with antler horns. The horned god Herne, mentioned in English folklore, is believed to be the same deity as Cernunnos, author R. Lowe Thompson suggests in the literary work The History of the Devil – The Horned God of the West Herne. In Greek mythology, the god Pan is usually depicted with horns. Along with goat-like horns, Pan is also illustrated with goat legs. He had the ability to use music to create magic and was allegedly the inventor of the panpipes!
Use in Other Occult Groups
Occult authors clearly link Baphomet to the Templar Knights, though the notion is discredited in mainstream literature. The symbol has also been used by the Freemasons as a representation of esoteric concepts. The Ordo Templi Orientis, a secret society established by occultist Aleister Crowley, included the symbol in their mythical studies as a representation of perfection, creative energy and magic. In the 20th century, the Church of Satan made their official insignia the Sigil of Baphomet. The founder of the church believed Baphomet represented Satan to the Templars and today it is viewed as a symbol of the power of darkness by the church’s followers.
Though commonly interpreted today as a symbol of evil, Baphomet stemmed initially from rumors and coercion, became a representation of balance in alchemy, and thereafter took on new meanings, influenced by the thinking at the time. Society continues to jump to conclusions about mysteries and things we have little understanding of, especially when provided with a charismatic, though frequently slanted, view. Perhaps we need to be willing to closely examine what we are presented with, understand all the different viewpoints and then make up our own minds about the mysteries and magic contained in the universe!
