i wound up with too much month at the end of the money this time around, but I still had a little bit of money locked up in scrip for a certain food chain that rhymes with manera plus a couple of coupon codes for said establishment, so I went there after voting (again) to treat myself and soothe away the pain that is local politics here and first of all, I didn't and will never pay full sticker price for a cup of soup there, but if you're going to charge $6.19 for an 8oz cup of soup, 1. what is wrong with you 2. you fucking gentrified soup is what you did. soup is supposed to be cheap. 3. stop it. 4. get help. 5. if you're going to charge 'the can of tomatoes we pureed for this got its own seat on the flight from Italy' prices anyway, actually use PDO San Marzanos. What the fuck is a 'pear tomato.' Don't answer that.

Second, while they are gouging for soup with an audacity that almost impresses me, there is no grift more blatant in the entirety of the Banera Pread menu than their hot tea. Now, as I am currently a member of their Limitless Sippy subscription (acquired free for two months, cancellation already scheduled for the Friday before they'd start charging me), I have mostly-unfettered access to their hot teas for $free.99, but if I stumbled through their doors sans drink membership with an itch that only hot tea could scratch, that'd be $2.89 before tax. Now in this deeply cursed economy, a $2.89 subtotal for a drink almost doesn't sound that bad, until you realize that's what you're paying for a single teabag that you are going to plonk into a paper cup and pour ~16oz of hot water over while under someone else's roof in front of a bunch of strangers; all the humility of the free hotel breakfast drink bar, but moved to a venue that charges $6+ for a literal 1c. cup of soup. This famed purveyor of gluten and gluten accessories carries an abbreviated selection of offerings from The Republic of Tea, and to make an example of the flavor I got this evening, a subscriptionless individual ordering one (lovely and delicious!) Honey Ginseng Green Tea from PB's Top-Shelf Bread and Soup Emporium has effectively subsidized one dozen additional bags before accounting for tax, based on the current listing from the Republic of Tea website which offers 50 bags for $11 even (before tax or shipping.) It's really something! And if that extra money was going to the workers, I'd support it, but I unfortunately have my doubts based on everything we all know about the food service industry.
