Sherlock Christmas Card Exchange - 2024 Edition
Dear all,
it's that time of the year again! You know the drill by now. Join us for some lovely holiday fun amid the most hectic time of the year. Not fandom-exclusive, read more below.
❤️
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
This is the “official” copy-cat post of this year’s exchange. It’s heavily inspired by the original blog and doesn’t intend to take over or imitate it in any disrespectful way. Rather, it’s a homage to the wonderful exchanges of the past years.
WHAT
Originally it started as a Christmas card exchange in the Sherlock fandom some years ago. Lovely people sent seasonal greetings to other lovely people all over the world cheering up their often stressful and exhausting pre-Christmas period. As time has gone by, I know the Sherlock fandom has been put into a sort of coma and people found other fandoms. That’s why this isn’t an exclusive Sherlock event, but an overall-lovely-people-providing-Christmas-spirit-and-we’re-just-keeping-the-name-for-traditional-reasons-exchange. You want to send and receive Christmas post? You’re in! 💌
WHEN
Register until Wednesday, 4th December 2024.
Exchange begins at Fridays, 6th December 2024.
HOW
Send me your name, postal address and any internet handle you want to add (tumblr, twitter, Instagram, etc.) to sherlock-xmas-exchange at outlook.com.
After I’ve received all your information I’ll create a PDF file and send it to all participants. Then you can immediately start writing, creating and sending Christmas mail to your heart’s content.
RULES
1. All information on the list you’ll receive is confidential and not to be sent or shown to anyone else.
2. Send at least one card to the person below you on the list.
3. Be friendly, cheery and nice to each other. :)
Disclaimer: If you register, you agree to be willing to share some of your personal data (name, address, email and/or social media handles) with other people taking part in this Christmas cards exchange. All data will be treated confidential by me and not be made public. I am, however, not responsible, nor am I capable of checking what any third parties (other participants) do with the data.
I’m tagging everyone who was interested and/or has participated in last year’s exchange. If you want to be removed just drop me a line.

Okay but you still haven’t explained what the glitch theory is, like what does it mean??
omgg lore dump time this is so exciting, more under the cut but the glitch theory basically revolves around this merch from phil from november 2019 !
(re: this ask)
so like at the time, this piece of merch had ppl like 👀👀 bc the concept and the graphic novel vibe and the way it said ‘to be continued’ had ppl thinking this might be a hint at a secret project!
and over the years, phil would keep hinting at wanting to channel his creative energies into a project, and how he'd love to do smth interactive like bandersnatch ! esp in 2019/early-2020:
in 'The Scary Reason I Didn't Buy A House' (april 2019), he said: "I do actually have a story in my head, I'm just not quite sure how I wanna tell it yet. So it could be a book, it could be like a TV series-style screenplay, it could be a movie script. I just need to consolidate all these ideas in my head and turn them into the thing. But I have been thinking about it for about five years, so it's just when the right time is to actually release the ideas."
in 'draw my life: part 2' (august 2019), he said: "maybe for the next secret big project, it's time for Philly to think about the big dreams he's always had! [...] What I've always dreamed of doing is writing stories and directing films to take what's in my mind and share it with the world on your screen, maybe even a bigger screen. Now remember the rule of secret projects! Who knows what's going on and if it'll ever be real, but let's just say some writing is happening."
in an interview from february 2020, he said that his plans for 2020 included: "a few projects on the burn which I'm not ready to announce fully yet. They all involve writing. There are some stories I'd like to tell, so with some hard work and a bit of luck I might be able to share these with you on-screen on in print next year."
in the TalentWorks podcast from vidcon london (february 2020) at about 29:35 (youtube link), he said: "I think I've reached a point where I'm ready to sink my teeth into a new big project [...] I'm ready to do something new that's also very Phil and very my own thing, so I've been looking into- I'm really obsessed with interactivity. I think there's been a big boom of it since Bandersnatch [...]. I already pitched one interactive thing which didn't work out, but I got a lot of other ideas that I'm thinking of."
and in one of the stereo shows, dnp also confirmed that they tried pitching an interactive show to netflix but it fell through cause of covid ! and there was this insta story of dan being in LA in january 2020, which aligns with the timeline mentioned in the podcast. a transcription of that stereo moment is here
so it was never confirmed whether the glitch hoodie was actually supposed to be smth greater or if it was just a fun merch idea, but it was a common fan theory that glitch was supposed to be one of phil's projects!
and i think one of the most notable theories that supported the glitch concept was that a couple weeks after the merch release, phil tweeted this:
bc the suspicious thing is that it's nearly identical to smth he tweeted 4 years prior on literally the same day and almost the same exact time ! so we’d joke about how it was like a glitch (!!) in the simulation and he even responded to a tweet about it. and he also talks about it in this liveshow (at 24:39), where he just jokes about how he's living in the matrix
so yea! tldr: glitch is just one theory about what (one of) phil's secret projects is <3
#but then again he didn't say anything about his nose twitching on dec 3 2023 so does that kill the theory.#the answer is no i still choose to believe#and after compiling all these quotes like. maybe i will make a 'phil secret projects' gifset one day <3#also me re-listening to the whole podcast again just to find where he talked about ~secret projects~ and the podcast was so lovelyyy ;-;#like the way he speaks 🤌🤌

Odio questo cazzo di gioco lo odio lo odio. Per fortuna non l'ho pagato io perchè sennò davvero me lo davo in fronte.
Oltre al fatto che non sono particolarmente brava nei giochi di RE più vecchi;
NO. LORO SONO OVUNQUE è IMPOSSIBILE NAVIGARE L'ISOLA NON CE LA FACEVO Ho cancellato tutti i dati.

Case Study 01 - Bandersnatch Black Mirror
The inside story of Bandersnatch, the weirdest Black Mirror tale yet
"The plot of “Bandersnatch” is classic Black Mirror, following a teenager in 1980s London as he struggles to make his own choose-your-own-adventure video game. But this is something completely new: a maze-like hybrid, part video game, part film, in which you are in total control."
"Structurally, “Bandersnatch” is composed of three main building blocks. First off there are segments – each one a distinct chunk of footage that is linked to other segments by decisions. Each decision leaves behind memories – the second building block – that are built up throughout the episode from the choices viewers make, and these influence which segments they’ll see later on. Two viewers who make exactly the same choices in all cases except one will have slightly different memories, so may end up following completely different narrative paths."
"Finally, you’ve got 41 recaps, which play when the viewer gets to one of the episode’s endings. Shot with old-fashioned tube cameras and played on a TV screen within the episode, each recap presents a quick overview of the decisions a viewer has made to get to that ending. From that screen they can then choose to re-enter the episode at an earlier point – a bit like re-spawning at a checkpoint in a game – or to exit to the final credits scene, knowing that there are still parts of the episode that remain hidden."
"Will viewers watch the episode, or interact with it? Or are they not really viewers at all, but more like participants, or players? Is the episode a successor to the choose-your-own-adventure games of the mid-1980s, or closer to a more traditional episode of Black Mirror?"

The RE series has had some great monster designs, and some real stinkers. These are probably the absolute worst:
“Noga-Trchanje” from RE6. RE6 in general is absolute cancer. But yeah, giving monsters guns is clear sign the series had given up on horror at this point.
The Ivans from Umbrella Chronicles. Look at these fucking goofy goobers:
The Bandersnatch from Code Veronica. These one armed freaks are not only ugly but annoying to fight against. Their lore is also stupid, they never discuss how these creatures are made, only that they were meant to be a low cost alternative to Tyrants… but they kinda just look like that one mutated zombie from Return of the Living Dead 3, if it was made of playdoh:

ani's eyes were fixated on mine when she said, "everything will be all right". in that split second, i could truly feel the gravity of her words. it was not a casual assurance she uttered to soothe me, much like a reflex. nor was it a baseless, wishful thought that she asserted to hopefully morph reality.
quite the contrary, her wisdom arose from years of diligent contemplation on buddhadharma, on anitya and anatman. the magnitude of ani's practice made (her assertion on) impermanence firm like a physics law. because of impermanence, everything will be all right. it is a promise. like gravity. like how all terrestrial bodies will always fall toward the centre of the earth at some point. eventually. inevitably.
impermanence is something i have long known and vouched for, but only from that moment could i truly embrace it as my own truth. this firmness stems from recognising the illusory nature of what we perceive to be realities. "reality" is but a flimsy manifestation of our past karmic actions, failed exams, unlearned lessons, and of unfulfilled promises that we have carried lifetime upon lifetime in the alaya-vijñana, our storehouse of consciousness.
in that sense, incarnation is much like remakes of a film (an interactive one, like Bandersnatch to be specific). the logline remains unchanged, but each time it comes with a slightly altered screenplay, mise-en-scène, cinematography, and a new équipe of supporting actors*. each time, the protagonist influences the events unfold in the film with their own choices. no matter their past missteps, at dawn, they can always turn the corner and seek atonement. karma, thus, is more of an empowerment than a punishment.
we stay in samsära and re-perform these acts, time and again, until we learn what needs to be learned. from earthly basics such as how to breathe steadily and walk firmly. such as, how to love with upeksa, or equanimity, so that love won't suffocate or inflict pains. such as, how to register the existence of and comfortably sit with our flaws; because only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others.
then when we are ready and no sooner, we will learn that samsara, much like all phenomena, is too assembled and inherently insubstantial. the ultimate truth is that we have never been bound by samsara. the moment we wake up from this butterfly dream, we touch the reality of the birthless and deathless nature of all things. with the renunciation from dualistic notions of good and bad, of hope and despair, of affections and afflictions - all at once - we reach the other shore where true liberation is realised.
rambling notes from a conversation with ani
denver, fall 2022
_____
(*) occasionally, we will be rejoined by old friends of lives past from before we were born, only in a different disguise. it is when we experience that bliss of the inexplicable connection to a soul we (think we) barely know. of "hey, i have missed you so much in the time i had not yet known you in this incarnation. how wonderful it is that across this grand and sublimely bizarre universe of multiverses, we are here now again and finally." - in lucy's words
