Why has it taken so long to figure out that these are dangerous and being banned now, after people have been consuming these for decades? Why wasn't this known prior to FDA approval? Why are we not getting a list of problems and facts related to these as well, to inform the general public of what we should have already known?

apparently ‘game theory‘ is up there with ‘irish potato famine‘ on things i can yell about for 700 words
aight now that shit has calmed down slightly imma toss out the theory i’ve had all along:
the whole point of the random eyes is to make breeding projects harder. it's an intentional feature, not an unintentional side effect.
‘wait a sec straif, why the Actual Fuck do you theorize staff would go out of their way to make a major game mechanic harder?’
(...i’m not kidding about the rest of this being 700 words.)
because it is a game, not a dragon dollmaker. part of game design is not just making in-game goals attainable; it's making in-game goals attainable and challenging. that's what separates games from tools used to just do the thing.
and yes, breeding projects are already a challenge. and as has been made obvious over the past few days, lots of players think this pushed the game balance too far in the 'challenge' direction. but on the flip side, it's undeniable breeding projects have gotten easier over the past five years, especially in favor of users whose goal dragon is already popular. if i want to breed a triple-obsidian imperial, i could do it right now with ready-to-breed parents plucked from the ah. if i wanted to breed something more random and less popular, i'd have a harder time and would need to balance 'when do i want to start breeding' vs 'how good do i want my per-nest odds to be', but increase in volume means there's still more options than there were a few years ago.
obviously even with perfect parents there's still challenge. most notably, staff has never released a gender-change scroll... for exactly this reason. they want at least some chance rather than always being able to scroll to what you want. similarly, while nest rentals aren't against the tos, they're not officially supported, nor has staff ever released a single-dragon flight-change item or ability to control your nest elements without moving your whole lair, again, for exactly this reason. they want breeding projects to be some level of challenge and while flight can somewhat be user-controlled, a flight-change item would have made things easier than staff wanted.
but gender aside, breeding projects have ceased to be a challenge because of the game itself or because of anything the player directly controls. they're now a challenge based on whether you want the same stuff as everyone else and the resulting ease of getting optimal parents. and there's only two ways to handle that balance:
'let's accept the challenge levels of breeding projects are primarily based on popularity now.'
'let's add something else which can't be purposely bred for and thus can't be tied to popularity.'
staff chose door #2, and now we have random mutations, with a small counterweight of vials to keep some control in the hands of the user. allowing eyes to be genetically passed on wouldn't fix the popularity imbalance, and making all the eyes available as controllable vials would be less 'breeding challenge' than 'shopping challenge'. so we've got one (for now) controllable vial, and limited-time-only scattersights, and either way how much users like a certain style is irrelevant to how easy it is to get.
'okay straif let's say you're right, then why did staff not lay this out at the start? people who don't like the rebalance would still be pissed but at least nobody would be freaking out about lack of staff communication.'
ladies gentlemen and distinguished enbies, allow me to review some history of Flight Rising Staff, creators of such hits as 'contact us (is a black hole but maybe your enquiry will be lucky enough to escape the event horizon)', 'the weekly q&a thread is now the biweekly q&a thread is now the oft-delayed q&a thread is now closed for a month', 'we made yet another change and said nothing about it', and of course the entire Banpocalypse 2014 Collection, featuring 'we suspended a well-known user for a rule which didn't even clearly exist and coincidentally we're also adjusting our banning procedure for coli-bots and multi-accounts and saying as little as possible about either and inevitably half the users conflated the two and are spreading wild rumors about how trivial an offence one could be banned for and the users who noticed the distinction are perturbed by our lack of communication and the entire gotdam userbase is now screaming like cicadas'.
...i'm not sayin staff's communication wrt the eye release was good or even acceptable but 'staff has 0 communication skills' is the least surprising part.

Hey Issuldra, this is konigen from FR. I just wanted to give you a poke, hope you're doing well. We were talking about earth flight history last night and I remembered that you kind of flipped the table and said fuckits when you lost your acc. <3 from the pebbles and fossils
Hey! Yeah I did try to come back but soon lost interest. It's hard not to when you sink $200 into a site when you could have put that money elsewhere, then get unfairly banned like hundreds of others during the banpocalypse. I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to just ask staff to delete the account if they have 0 plans of letting me back on it; I have a lot of copyrighted characters on there and I don't want them associated with the site, given other past incidents as well.
Hope you and everyone else are doing well!

this one got flagged too ???
A piece of official art for Mario Party 4 depicting Donkey Kong can be seen being crudely edited in post-production to hide seams on Donkey Kong’s fur. Zooming in on his wrist, we can see a thin line separating his opaque arm fur from his translucent wrist fur, as well as brush strokes that were added by Nintendo in an unsuccessful attempt to hide the line.

I really hope @staff @support gives us a tool to find our flagged posts in an easier way than scouring the dashboard view of our blogs
