When I first visited Moonrise, I stood before the Absolute in awe. It was more of an idea than an entity. Pure love. Total power. Orin was by my side. She told me god had chosen me to be a True Soul. Blessed and adored. Now I know those memories are lies. There was no god. Orin held me down in a cocoon of flesh, while a mind flayer forced a parasite into my head. And she laughed at my fear.

Aw, the babu
I love to look at your kidstarion doodles and comics before I'm going to bed (not every evening but I do it now). I've also got some troubles with bedtime (thanks to my trauma), but I'm a adult and that little bean is comforting.

They're also my bedtime brain comfort food, I'm glad to be able to share them <333

Oathbreaker
Tumblr media
summary: request for paladin Tav to break their oath by freeing the spawns and their choices with the Oathbreaker Knight. Request was too long to publish.
-------------------------------🩸-------------------------------
Astarion wasn’t sure how he was supposed to be feeling right now.
Elated? Afraid? Proud that he did the right thing or worried over setting the equivalent of a pack of wild dogs loose on the Underdark? So many emotions that Astarion was not used to feeling all bubbling up inside him.
What he was sure of, however, was that he was a little disappointed in Tav’s enthusiasm for the situation. They had worked so hard. Done good; which they usually lapped up like a cat with cream. Astarion thought they would at least be a little proud of him but they just seemed despondent. He decided that, in this effort to be free and turn a new leaf, he would be the bigger person and let it go. Perhaps after a good night’s sleep they would all feel better in the morning.
But, as with most nights in their camp, a good night’s sleep was not sure to come.
Just before they all laid their heads down a whirl of smoke, fire, and ash appeared in the camp. At first Astarion thought it was Rapahel, as he scrabbled from his bedroll to Tav, but no sufur. Instead of the devil in their camp there was a man, seemingly made of fire and black armor, with a dooming, looming presence before them.
“I have been waiting for you.” The black knight spoke as it turned to Tav. “I felt the moment of your liberation—the shedding of your bond.” Astarion looked surprised. Bond? What was he talking about. “Oathbreaker,” the word fell like a hammer in the room, “you swore to protect life itself. To serve the natural order. To protect those who would value life, and vanquish those who would destroy it. Tell me – why did you abandon your oath?”
Astarion suddenly realized what was going on. In releasing those souls, the vampires who would be lost, were lost, Tav had betrayed their oath. Released dark forces on the natural order. They had done all that…for him?
“It was the right thing to do.” Tav told him bluntly. “And…I did it for love.”
Astarion was shocked, but the fallen knight just laughed. “Love? Such a fickle reason. But…some say a noble one.” He couldn’t be sure, but Astarion thought that the knight may have glanced at him. “Take comfort in your undoing. I, like you, abandoned my cause. But much can still be achieved.”
The knight explained that their oath was broken, but that new power was taking root in its place. Astarion could barely hear him. All he could think about was what Tav had done for him. Continued to do for him. All the sacrifice. All the pain. All the ridiculous little errands and side quests they did just to make him happy. And what had he done for them?
“I wish to reclaim my oath.” Tav’s voice broke through his concentration. Turning to them as they said they wanted to be a paladin again. “I made a promise. And although what I did was right, I do not wish to shirk my responsibilities as well.”
“Very well.” The knight replied, sounding a little disappointed. “First you must pay the agreed price. Material sacrifice is required, to prove your words have substance.” He told them. “Do you wish to pay?”
1000 gold for salvation. Astarion thought that was trivial, but so like the church and religion.
“I…I don’t have….—“I do. I have it.” The vampire quickly stepped forward and handed the sum to the dark knight. Astarion glanced at Tav who seemed a little surprised. “What? You didn’t think I gave you all the coin when I was picking those pockets and coffers, did you?”
“The price is paid.” The knight then spoke. “Kneel, oathbreaker.” Tav kneeled and the Oathbreaker Knight repeated the words of their vow. An ancient, deep magic enveloping them for a moment before a new oath was sealed and Tav’s vow was resorted. “It is done.”
Tav stood and seemed to look over themselves. “Well, lets hope I don’t live to regret this.”
“Regret is for those who would act differently.” The knight told them. “I do not think you would change your choice, as nor would I.”
The knight then disappeared. Leaving them alone. “So…that’s why you have been so upset recently?”
“Yes.” Tav confessed. “I meant what I said. It was the right thing to do. But the more we go on this journey…the more I realize that what is right and what holds my oath are not always the same thing.”
“The world is full of greys and purples, my darling.” Astarion reached out to take Tav’s hand gently in his. “You taught me that. I wouldn’t be here…I wouldn’t be anywhere if it weren’t for you. I’m not really an accurate barometer on which way right is, but from where I am standing, there is no one more honorable than you. And if your gods can’t see that then more fools they.” Tav chuckled a little at him.
Astarion then took a deep breath. “Since…we’re up now.” He pondered aloud. Wondering how to say this properly. “There’s…something I’d like to show you, if that’s all right? Something out in the city.”
He took Tav’s hand in his again and led them into the city. To show them what his ‘oath’ had cost him. Where his old self had been. But, with this new lease, perhaps they could put those old selves away and focus on the new. A new path. A new future. A pledge to one another for a change.

Reading BG1's History of the Dead Three and damn "three guys turn up to take jergal's power and he just gives it to them and retires" was already extremely funny but BG3 really undersold quite how extremely stupid the situation was.
After being told that Jergal Is Bored Of His Duties, we are introduced to Bane the Tyrant, Bhaal the Assassin and Myrkul the Necromancer, and told how cool and awesome and powerful they are
What we are not told is what Bane being a tyrant entails. Does he rule a country? Is he just someone's shitty boss? You'd think this would be relevant but no.
After a long and epic quest, the three of them finally reach their objective, the Bone Throne
THE BONE THRONE
At this point I had to stop to laugh because I can NOT take seriously a group of people whose LIFELONG QUEST is to reach something called The Bone Throne
Anyway the three of them start screaming about how it's My Throne Now while Jergal just sits there, on his Bone Throne.
Jergal is at this point Extremely Fucking Done and just tells them they can take the Bone Throne. All he wants to know is which of them is actually going to rule.
This question had apparently not occured to the Dead Three in their lifelong quest.
The three of them immediately start fighting over it while Jergal continues to be So Incredibly Fucking Done.
The fight lasts so long that Jergal realises they're only going to stop if they die of exhaustion, so he sighs and suggest they just, like, play a game of skill to decide who wins??
The gang decides the winner of The Bone Throne should be whoever's best at bowling. Jergal pulls the skulls off some of his liches for them to use for this.
Part way through Skull Bowling, a whole other god, Malar the Beastlord, just pops by to visit Jergal
Malar is a little nonplussed to find Jergal is just giving away all his powers right now and would also like a chance to inherit them, please
He runs off to grab the skulls so the contest is halted until he gets a chance to play too, and Bhaal, Bane and Myrkul immediately start fighting among themselves again
Jergal is, at this point, more done than anyone has ever been at any point ever
He suggests they just play a game of chance while Malar's off chasing skulls about. He breaks off one of his own finger bones for them to do this with because honestly why not at this point
Malar returns with his skulls just in time to see the others finish their game, f for respects
Bane wins and declares he chooses to rule over Tyranny, and therefore be totally in charge and cooler than everyone
Myrkul comes second and declares he chooses to rule over the dead, and that means he's the real winner because everything Bane rules over will eventually be his, so suck it
Bhaal comes third and declares he chooses to rule over death, which means he can fuck Bane over by killing his people and fuck Myrkul over by not killing people, and thefore he's the coolest and winnerest of all, so both of you can suck it
They literally just chose the things they were doing anyway
None of the fighting was even necessary
Jergal is just glad to be retired

Lately, I feel like a total perverted maniac obsessing over Baldur’s Gate 3 scenes, since I keep watching them over and over… especially the ones involving my pixelated vampire boyfriend.
Tumblr media
Anyway, I was goofing off as usual and rewatching the scene where Astarion either makes a move for the first time or not during the tiefling party. Now, maybe someone else has already pointed this out and it’s been discussed at length or maybe I'm talking a lot of nonsense, but when our pale elf approaches with the bottle in hand, saying he never imagined himself as the hero praised for saving so many lives—and then adds that now that he’s here, he finds it awful and hates it—it feels to me like he’s hiding what he really thinks about the whole thing (perhaps he doesn’t even fully understand what he feels). Let me explain.
Astarion says he never imagined himself as a hero, etc, then adds “and now that I’m here,” pauses, leaves the thought hanging, and takes a drink from the bottle. Only then does he say it’s awful and he hates it. But… is he talking about the wine or about being a hero? The scene is well-constructed, the dialogue is ambiguous, but when you choose to drink from the same bottle, Astarion points out, “See what I mean? Awful!” So, he was talking about the wine!
Of course, he goes on to complain about the company (“I’m surrounded by idiots!”), the taste of the drink (“It tastes like vinegar!”), the fact that their heroic outing hasn’t changed the world, and that all he got for his trouble was nothing (“Just a pat on the head!”). But, in reality, Astarion never actually says that saving lives disgusted him!
He doesn’t say he enjoys it either, mind you, especially since in the first act of the game he’s still very much keeping to himself, selfish to the core, and focused on his own survival. Let’s not forget that just a few days earlier, he was still under Cazador’s thumb. But in my opinion, the fact that he found himself in the role of the hero—even though it’s a situation he would have gladly avoided—left a mark on him... something he doesn’t actually talk about, even when it seems like he is. Unlike Shadowheart, who openly admits it despite being surprised by it. A thought, a feeling perhaps, that the vampire spawn keeps to himself, hidden beneath his quips and the mask he keeps firmly in place. He’s not ready yet to let go of his beliefs, his worldview, and everything he’s learned about life in the worst possible way. However, this experience has marked the beginning of something. Something he’s perhaps still trying to rationalize and understand. That’s why he’d rather talk about the wine and complain about the boring party! xD
Let’s remember that Astarion is a dramatic, whiny diva, especially when things don’t go his way. xD But his frustration, going back to the wine tasting like vinegar, probably stems more from that detail than from saving lives. After all, as he says, it’s terrible and he hates it, simply because it’s not blood. And honestly, can you blame him? Poor vampire spawn, always hungry!
