Since it was mentioned in a few posts that Seto was not informed of Banner's death, I can only imagine how he reacts to the FULL LIST of people that need to be replaced. Jaden: Yeah, so the janitor, a security guard, and the secondary nurse were actually Shadow Riders-slash-Duel Spirits, our Alchemy teacher-slash-Occult history teacher and head of Slifer Red was a Shadow Rider too and he was in a homunculus body so I might be having nightmares from finding his mummified corpse, oh and the Superintendent was the leader of the Shadow Riders and was in this weird life support system before he got young and swole so yeah you need to replace a lot of people. Seto: **trying to figure out how he's going to replace 5 positions over the course of a summer because they need to be good duelists too** Joey: ...I'll check with Mai to see if she's still in touch with Valon and his crew. Vivian too; they were close in the tag battle circuit. Yugi: Thank you Joey. I'll see if Bakura wants to replace Banner. I'm sure he would love to teach children about the Dark Arts.

And you’re so right Bakura with his occult deck would be all over teaching children about the Dark Arts. He’s offended he wasn’t the first choice.

And I love Joey being like “we know people! Competent people!”

I was thinking about (and I can’t take full credit for this because I saw it floating around like 6ish years ago) Joey taking over as the head of the Slifer Dorms. Who beater than the king of the underdogs, who has the most growth in his series, to take the Slifer’s and raise them up. He’s the third best duelist in the world he’s got the credentials for it.

But I don’t think I can do it in this au because you know Joey would hear “there’s and evil cult in school grounds brainwashing people to join it” and he go, “not this crap again” as he struts across campus to handle this. Jaden and his gaggle of friends following behind thinking “omg we’re going to see Joy Wheeler duel!” And it turns into “omg we’re watching Joey Wheeler physically beat cult leader!” Joey, and exclent duelist and could win said I’m doing what I should have done the first time, and beats the crap out of Sartorius.

Sartorius: “ah Mr. Wheeler have you come for a duel” think he’s about to get Joey under his control.

So ya Joey can’t be then head of Slifer dorm because season 2 would not happen or it would be greatly altered. Aster Phoenix shows up talking trash and trying to duel Jaden, ya no uncle Joey I mean Professor Wheeler said no.

They blow Jaden’s identity in a week because Joey watches Jaden win a duel and yells “that’s my nephew!!!!” Everyone looks at him “I mean my student!!!!” Everyone knows but Jaden and jeoy keep acting like they don’t.

Honestly this might have to be an au of my own au or I’ll make a new cannon where Joey is in charge of Slifer dorm from season 2 onwards (in a world where it’s cannon Jaden maybe??)

But the idea of Mai, Valon, Raphael, Vivian or Rebecca coming to teach is very fun.

It makes me want to add more of the cast in

Obviously Bakura is the occult teacher (wild that’s a job)

Maybe Serenity comes to work as the nurse (going into medicine after her eye surgery)

Duke teaches game making (an actual track the kids at duel academy can take)

Mai takes over the girl dorms and force them to allow more girls in (why are all girls automatically Obelisk? Do they only let in the best of the best girls and the mediocre boys can get in? You can’t convince me Mindy and Jasmine are the “best of the best” honestly I need someone to give me the enrollment rules for this school. Because I feel most of obelisk blue bought their way in and then there is everyone else. The red and blue uniforms being made girl and boy uniforms in 5Ds makes way more sense then what ever enrollment and ranking system is going on in Gx)

Also I’ve always loved Valon and Raphael and having them come in as security guards or something could be hilarious because the students are used the the security being pseudo military. Someone breaks the rules in season 2 and are expecting the military security but instead these three jacked bickers show up at their door. Because those three are not wearing any uniform.

I don’t know if any of this will be cannon but having Serenity on campus would actually be really fun. I wish we had more of her in cannon and her being the nurse puts her in an “active role” for season 3

They decided to do the same for Anzu, and that's why they keep calling her Tea

Yugi declined, and they also couldn't figure out a good name for him that didn't feel weird, so he stayed Yugi

I'm not the biggest dm fan in the world, it just kinda didn't give me brainworms like the other shows did, but I still love the cast and want to include them in fics/headcanons. They're all WEIRDOS. Friendgroup consisting of a goth/punk gnome of a highschooler, dancer with kindness in her heart and muscle in her thighs, ex-gang member who listens to radiohead and wears secondhand denim jackets, his bff, and occasionally their ttrpg guy who keeps accidentally trapping them in death games and collects haunted dolls.

Katsuya "Call me Joey" Jonouchi the america kabure and Honda joins in because it's funny and he likes doing stuff with his friend, Anzu sometimes complains and pretends she doesn't like The Bit but in that friend way where everyone knows she is absolutely in on The Bit.

I love the headcanon that Bakura re-learned japanese out of a textbook and that's why he uses stilted almost-archaic high formality for everyone, because he's out of touch with the Social Rules of the language and just sticks to the guaranteed least offensive option. He does not remember When It Is Acceptable To Go To First Name Basis and doesn't share his first name with any of them until they've been friends for years. This is based solely on the joke in the abridged dub where Bakura says his first name is Ryou and no one knows who that is.

As such, he escapes the American-ization ray because it is inconceivable to any of them that Bakura could be called by any name other than Bakura.

Ooooo it's Dad-kura!

His name is technically Samuel Bakura, but Dad-kura is more universal since he doesn't have a name in series.

He's 36 at the start of the story and is a passionate workaholic with such a deep love for his family that he literally can't sleep without his wife.

I tried to make him look like a person who was incredibly chill and friendly, but he low-key looks snarky.

I hope you like him! I'll draw mom-kura when my pens are no longer dead.

This got cut off in the chapter update post, so I'm reposting it by itself.

Accompanying this chapter of Rock Bottom is art that I commissioned from the talented @luxielovesparkles of Ryou's archaeologist father, Dr. Kenji Bakura! He's based on the few shots we had of him from back in season one of the anime. In this AU, his whole family is alive and well (yay!), and this is the good man that believes his son about the Spirit of the Millennium Ring, who saved the Ishtar siblings from their oppressive and abusive lives underground, and who is doing his best to watch out for these kids as they meddle with ancient magic. He works at the Domino Museum, sponsored by the university, and is friends with both Solomon Mutou and Arthur Hawkins. And in this chapter, he's stepping up to do for our very troubled Seto what he thinks he should have done in the first place: get involved, even if Seto doesn't want him to, because dammit this boy needs help.

KT is wildly inconsistent about the whole "if you try to use a millennium item and aren't strong enough you'll get soulmurdered" thing and there's a bunch of chapters early on where he clearly hadn't invented it yet and a bunch later where he just forgot about it. The only straightforward conclusion is that a bunch of one-off disposable early manga villains secretly had remarkable strength of soul against all evidence to the contrary, also Jonouchi and Anzu. What's the problem

i think the canonical reason ryou has the ring is because his dad bought it at a shady stall in egypt. which is a classic origin story for cursed artifacts but like. the millenium items are solid gold. no graverobber worth their salt is going to sell it to some random englishman for a fraction of its value.

so, here's my theory for why that happened: the items are equal parts gold, liquefied flesh, condensed dark magic, and trapped souls. i like to think the last 3 have some effect on the physical properties of the metal.

like, for example, fucking up the density. or preventing it from tarnishing. or, just generally, being a lot more indestructible than gold generally is (gold is, notably, a very soft metal)

basically i like to think that whoever found it went "oh this thing is super fake, bet I can find a gullible tourist though!"
