Congress vs BJP As Hanuman Flag Removed In Karnataka, Situation Tense
In Keragodu village of Karnataka's Mandya, a controversy over a Hanuman flag has led to political confrontations, protests, and police intervention. The incident took place last week when a group of men erected a 108-foot flagpole and raised a Hanuman flag.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been issued in the village because of the tense situation.
The village panchayat had granted permission for the installation of the flagpole, but complaints were filed against it, prompting officials to request the removal of the Hanuman flag. Villagers, however, stood firm in their decision, accusing a few individuals of attempting to politicise the matter. A large police contingent was deployed, and members of the BJP, JD(S), and Bajrang Dal joined villagers in protesting against the removal.
Protests escalated on Saturday when villagers closed their shops in defiance. Yesterday, Gram Panchayat officials visited the village to remove the flag, leading to a gathering of villagers chanting slogans of 'Go Back' in protest against the officials.
The controversy took a political turn when banners of local Congress MLA Ravi Kumar were vandalised during the protests. In response, police presence was heightened in the region, anticipating further unrest.
BJP leaders and Hindu activists strongly condemned the removal of the flag. The BJP announced plans to hold protests in all districts of Karnataka, with a specific protest scheduled at Mysuru Bank Circle in Bengaluru today.
To quell the unrest, police resorted to lathi charge and replacing the Hanuman flag with the national flag on the flagpole. Official sources revealed that the flag post's installation was funded by residents of Keragodu and 12 neighboring villages, with the active involvement of BJP and JD(S) workers.
Opposition parties criticised the Congress-led government for the police intervention, with BJP leader R Ashoka condemning the government's "anti-Hindu stance." He argued that the Hanuman flag was raised with the gram panchayat's approval, questioning the sudden removal by the Congress government.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responded to the situation, expressing concern that a 'bhagwa dwaja' (saffron flag) had been raised instead of the national flag.
"It is not right. I have asked (the authorities concerned) to hoist the national flag."
The District In-charge Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy clarified that the flagpole's location falls under the panchayat's jurisdiction, and permission was initially obtained for hoisting the national flag on Republic Day.
"There may be politics behind it (the installation of the Hanuman flag replacing the National Flag). I don't know who is behind it …This country works under democracy and the Constitution. Tomorrow they may say they want to hoist the flag (saffron flag) in front of the DC's office. Can it be allowed? If it is permitted at one place, it will extend to other places. This is the only reservation," he said.
"We are not here to hurt our youth. I have spoken to officials, police and youths. We are ready to install the Hanuman flag at a private place or near a temple. We will support them. We too are Rama Bhaktas," he added.

Cow Vigilante Monu Manesar, Wanted For Double Murder And Riots, Detained
Manesar is a key accused in the murder of two Muslim men from Rajasthan
NEW DELHI
Cow vigilante Monu Manesar, who was wanted in connection with the murder of two men from Rajasthan and for inciting the violence in Nuh in July, has been detained by the Haryana Police. The Bajrang Dal activist is a key accused in the murder of two Muslim men from Rajasthan, whose bodies were found in a car in Haryana in February. Nasir, 25, and Junaid, 35, who were residents of a village in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes on February 15. The next day, their bodies were found inside a car that had been set ablaze in Loharu in Haryana's Bhiwani. Sources in the Haryana Police said Manesar was detained on Tuesday under bailable sections of the Information Technology Act. They said he is likely to get bail by evening and the Rajasthan Police will take him into custody in the double-murder case. Manesar is also accused of inciting the violence that broke out in Haryana's Nuh in July, in which at least six people were killed. The violence began on July 31, during a 'Jal Abhishek Yatra' organised by the Vishva Hindu Parishad, and then spread to adjoining areas, including Gurugram. Rumours of Manesar attending the Yatra had allegedly triggered the communal clashes. The cow vigilante, who was on the run in the murder case, had posted a video a few days before the procession, claiming that he would attend it. He had also exhorted his supporters to come out in large numbers. This had allegedly enraged some people from the Muslim community, who viewed it as a threat, and triggered a heated exchange on social media. BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh gives anti-Muslim hate speech at election meetings
Hate Offender Swami Jitendranand calls for lynching of pregnant women
This is barely scratching the surface of all the news (this entire list of 40 or so cases is hardly within the last two years... there are hundreds of such cases) I hear on an almost daily basis about the activities of Hindutva goons and elected BJP leaders, either threatening or lynching or making hate speeches against Muslims.
And if you want to talk about the dictatorial efforts of the current government, look no further than the weaponization of the Enforcement Directorate and CBI, the threats against twitter and banning of documentaries critical of the current government, the suspension of MPs and MLAs, internet shutdowns and media suppression, the deliberate inaction of police against people accused of crimes and hate speeches against minorities (which even the SC has rapped), the filing of anti terrorism cases and arrest and abuse of people over minor cases or even mere criticism, the usage of governers to block the functioning of the state assembly bills, the clashes with SC, usage of ordinances to override state rights, the democratic backsliding, human right violations and communal violence that has been condemned internationally by human rights groups, the threats against the SC judges by cabinet ministers, the Pegasus case etc.
And shamefully enough, the way this government has been using the full state machinery to promote and propagandize the inaugaration of a temple, even going to the extent of declaring a national holiday for government employees just goes to show how far they will go to trample on the foundational values as highlighted in the constitution.
Despite knowing all of these, if you still support the current government, BJP and its actions, its obvious you are a Hindu supremacist bootlicker going against all the foundational constitutional values of this nation and would rather see this country devolve into a Hindu supremacist North Korea and treat minorities as second class citizens.
Seeing the shit people say about Jews in the wake of the Israel-Palestine conflict when you’re Hindu is really just coming to the realisation that:
#the numbering got messed up#also for anyone who is not aware of the current events happening in India#be very careful of these people who try to weaponize sj language to further right wing hindu extremism#India#hindutva
