About a week ago, I posted a WIP graphic that represented a bunch of the Apollo kids (mostly ocs but including canon) using their camp necklaces.  At the time, it went back to only kids that were in camp when Will was, but that’s now been expanded as far back as all the kids Lee ever knew!

Another change is the post-TOA year bead; originally I had a design for The Sun and the Stars, but as that book’s looking more and more like it’s taking place the same summer as TON and therefore won’t have its own bead, I’ve replaced it with a new design!

As always, bead designs are free to borrow with credit, but please don’t use my ocs’ names!  (You are, however, welcome to use the full names I’ve assigned to Yan, Jerry and Gracie, once again with credit).

Questions about the beads or the ocs or canon kids are all very welcome!

McGonagall and Baird work together as co-heads of the kingdom’s healers focusing on different things. She’s the main teacher of the Gifted pages and squires with Numair occasionally coming in for a guest lesson because Numair, while awesome, is not remotely qualified to teach. Hagrid’s officially in the employ of the crown but does a lot of world travel with Lindhall Reed. All the Weasley boys went through knight training; Auntie Muriel is also in the book of Gold, but belongs to a different house (or a different branch of it), and she covers armor and horse fees. Percy’s her favorite. Also, just because, she’s Dom’s “least favorite aunt”. Charlie’s got Wild Magic (maybe with just one specific species, maybe with more), and the king and queen often send him off as a protector for Hagrid, Percy’s got the Gift and really wanted to go to university or be trained as a sorcerer, but Muriel wouldn’t pay for those. She feels vaguely guilty about this now, but not enough to say anything about it beyond not hassling Percy about his career choices as a desk knight. (Percy kind of wants to be Lord Provost one day; whatever he’s doing, it’s something with room for advancement). Ron, Ginny and the twins see this as unfair favoritism; Bill and Charlie get it. Muriel didn’t pay for Ginny’s training as a knight -she felt girls have absolutely no place in combat. She was willing to pay for convent school and nothing else. Molly and Arthur offered the Queen’s Ladies as a compromise. Muriel would’ve been willing to agree to that; Ginny said knighthood or nothing and threatened to run away and join the Riders. It takes two years of arguing, but she starts her page training at 12. Once Ginny’s in training, Muriel pays for her too, because family honor. She refuses to admit this and complains about Ginny’s decisions and Molly and Arthur spoiling her every chance she gets. She also once bitch-slapped someone else for saying the same thing. Filch is the commoner in charge of cleaning the chamber of the ordeal and he is constantly having to deal with squires on dares and dumbass pages bowling him over and pranks from noble children and by this point his attitude is “fuck the lot of them” combined with downright reverence for king and throne. (The royal children are not included in that reverence, although a few of the politer and quieter ones have a sort of tentative peace with him). He gained a grudging tolerance of Daine when she helped Mrs. Norris get over a fever that would’ve killed her. Neville’s also in the book of gold and training to be a knight out of a sense of duty. He sucks at it. But his dad was a knight and his mom was one of the Queen’s Ladies, soooo.... Also, if we’re removing Frank and Alice and Lily and James, there was a major revolt when Roald took the throne. Between the succession problems with the Voice of the Bazhir, the questions about the Dominion Jewel, the fact that two queens in a row are now not Tortallan... it was either a bloody-ass revolt or shaping up to be one.

Sirius broke his oath to his knightmaster when he found out the guy was an asshole, left training as a squire, joined the Own, and then disappeared a few years later. He and James met as pages but knew of one another beforehand; Sirius met Remus and Peter in the Own. Peter was part of the rebellion against Roald. Remus is noble-born, but from a poor family; at this point, it’s titles and the old house, and not much in the way of land. His mom’s a commoner. He couldn’t afford the armor costs to be a knight, but he was able to save up enough for two horses to join the Own with some very careful scrimping and some time teaching. Peter’s the only son of a rich merchant family. Lily was in the Riders. The first time she met James, he started showing off. She was very unimpressed. I feel like most of the house elves wind up as darkings. 

Alternatively, McGonagall’s a Shang warrior. She and Eda Bell are hella close. (Actually, I think the two of them are hella close regardless of how and when they met. They’re cut from the same sort of cloth.)

The Weasleys are in the book of gold but massively in debt; the Malfoys are book of silver but massively wealthy.

Bill is a knight because he's the eldest, Charlie went into the King's Own and will have a successful life long career there, Percy is either a politician or joined the priests of Mithras (maybe both?), Fred and George said they were joining the Own with Charlie and then ran off to the Copper Isles to do mischief for Kyproith start their own business, Ron also tries for his knighthood, and Ginny either steals his thunder by following him, joins the Riders, or (depending on how much like Thayet the queen is) joins the Queen's ladies.

Hermione is from a decently wealthy merchant family and currently at university. I don't know what kind of magic she has but she's very powerful.

Harry is either half or a quarter Bazhir on James's side. He also has the sight, similar to Aly's in power.

Luna is a lady at court and she's the WEIRDEST goddamn noblewoman you'll ever meet. There's rumors she has the sight or is some kind of prophet but she's just like this.

Memories

I have good memories of boiling sap all night in March 1977, 78, 79 with faculty Steve Purington, Mr. Baird, Ms. Sweetums, Stu Gander, Norris Howard, Dave Miller, Pete Caesar, Joe Hornich et al.

Spring break, students gone, campus empty, still, sap flowing. Those of us remaining pitched in to collect brimming sap buckets, and stayed up all night, drinking beer, singing along to guitar music down by the sugar shed where a spring flowed. By dawn, our clothes smelled like wood smoke, our skin covered in sweet maple stickiness. Years later, when the earth thaws from winter's freeze, I can sense the sap flowing in the trees, my memory dips back to special times, making syrup at Darrow.
