Vulture (Black and Turkey)
Warbler (Adelaide's, Bachman's, Bay-breasted)
Whip-poor-will (Eastern and Mexican)
Willet
Woodpecker (Red-headed, Red-bellied, and others)
Yellowthroat (Common and Gray-assigned)
Note that this once-over bars all protected species. For the full once-over, see Title 50 Part 10.13 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
Punishments for Violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act
Breaking the Migratory Bird Treaty Act is an administration offense that can achieve fines up to $15,000 and confinement up to a half year.
It is in like manner a wrongdoing to take a protected bird to sell it, with an additional a generally outrageous fine of $2,000 and up to one year of prison time.
Exemptions Allowed for Population Control Reasons
Right when birds compromise the prosperity and flourishing of human peoples, the U.S. government offers an exclusion for the Migratory Bird Treaty Act to allow for people control.
For example, the U.S. government has allowed seagulls to be killed at Puget Sound boat terminals on account of complaints of powerful birds and bird-dropping-related infections.
Sometimes, the focal government allows hunting of protected species to the extent that the general population is huge and sound with the eventual result of managing the decrease in numbers.
Inadvertent taking or killing protected species is similarly allowed now and again, though not without question from conservation affiliations.
Are Seagulls Endangered?
A couple of sorts of gulls are endangered, similar to the Black-charged Gull.
The Olrog's Gull and Lava Gull are considered unprotected. The Adouin's Gull and Ivory Gull are close undermined by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Other endangered birds recorded by the IUCN are:
Relict Gull: Vulnerable
Chinese Black-headed Gull: Vulnerable
Heermann's Gull: Near Threatened
White-looked toward Gull: Near Threatened
The IUCN Red List
The IUCN Red List was made by the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 1964 to follow the overall security status of animals, plants, and parasites.
The get-together gives out a conservation status to each specie considering its risk of disposal. Coming up next are the classes of conservation status:
Not Evaluated: species that isn't one of the 134,425 studied species
Data Deficient: species without good documentation of people prosperity
Least Concern: species that have been evaluated and don't get into a few different groupings
Near Threatened: species that are likely going to become compromised as soon as possible
Feeble: species at high risk of obliteration in nature
Endangered: species at exceptionally high risk of destruction in nature
Critically Endangered: species at incredibly high risk of destruction in nature
Ended in the Wild: species simply exist in subjugation
Ended: no living people from the species
What Conservation Efforts Are Taken for Seagulls?
Protection tries taken for seagulls fuse getting their good places and avoiding metropolitan headway near their settling grounds.
Since seagulls home and breed in shoreline areas, they have become dynamically sensitive.
Seagulls have similarly seen people climb on account of business fishing exercises.
Discards from fishing boats are an unprecedented food focal point for gulls, in spite of the way that, as of not long ago, they have not been intentionally used as a strategy for observing seagull peoples.
Moreover, gulls genuinely well when we recall biodegradable waste for landfills.
In any case, the unfriendly outcomes of recalling biodegradable resources for landfills have up until this point offset any protection benefits.
When in doubt, seagulls will undoubtedly be considered an interference of amicability than a creature bunches that needs protection.
Thusly, there are relatively few constant protection attempts highlighted guaranteeing these species.
Regardless, these species are a critical piece of our natural frameworks.

Mergansers at the river today. There were four pair yesterday and today along with thirtyfive Mallards. I know the number because I came across my birding friend Ken. He mentioned that he'd seen a Bald Eagle in a sycamore a couple of weeks before and confirmed that the "odd duck" we'd seen yesterday was an American Black Duck, a new to me sighting.
In the Bahamas last week, I saw a Bahamas Mockingbird which was also new to me. They are similar to our local ones, but a bit bigger. This one serenaded me for quite a while.
Tumblr media
Generally, a vacation, particularly one involving the ocean, soothes my soul and heals whatever ails me. For whatever reason, it didn't work quite as well this time. Around Day 5 I started having moments of deep sadness, but I was unable to identify any specific trigger. Now that I'm home, its still a bit of a struggle to be positive. My Sirius XM station just played Sarah Smile by Hall and Oates, a song that I remember well from my teenage years and I burst into tears for no reason.
Although I do have some personal stuff I'm working through - I thought I was in a better place - focusing on the things I can change and letting go of the rest. But the past few days really having me questioning my sanity. I'm way past mood swings/hot flashes/etc - I'm retired, so there's no work stress - and the fact that my cat is demanding, loud, and extremely needy is nothing new - she's a Siamese mix.
All I can think of is that it has to do with my age. I'm over 60 now, and I've probably blogged before that half of my family (Mom, Grandfather, Grandmother) died before they reached 65. Sometimes I worry that I don't have much time left, but frankly I also don't have a long list of things I still want or need to accomplish.
So that leaves me thinking its more about being old. On my vacation, there was a stageshow about disco....and I realized that not only was no one performing alive in the 1970s, chances are most of the audience wasn't either, sigh. Same with the Epic Rock show.....and although pretty much every guitarist/piano bar entertainer played Margaritaville - all of them were young enough to be Jimmy Buffet's grandchildren.
In 1920 the average female lifespan was younger than I am now....so my rational mind tells me I should be grateful for all the advances in technology and medicine that help predict I have more than 20 good years ahead of me. But the emotional part looks back at the 60some that have passed and mourns what cannot be revised.
I admit to being quite sad and a bit lost. And it sucks.....but I think all I can do is keep on keeping on and trust that this too shall pass.
If you got this far, thank you.......

Northern Mockingbird
The northern mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) is the only mockingbird commonly found in North America. The northern mockingbird is known for its mimicking ability, as reflected by the meaning of its scientific name, 'many-tongued mimic.' The northern mockingbird's lifespan is observed to be up to 8 years, but captive birds can live up to 20 years. The northern mockingbird is the state bird of Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.
The northern mockingbird has gray to brown upper feathers and a paler belly. Its tail and wings have white patches which are visible in flight. The mockingbird's habitat varies by location, but it prefers open areas with sparse vegetation. In the eastern regions, suburban and urban areas such as parks, gardens are frequent residential areas. It has an affinity for mowed lawns with shrubs within proximity for shade and nesting.
The northern mockingbird is an omnivore. It eats both insects and fruits. It is often found in open areas and forest edges but forages in grassy land. The northern mockingbird breeds in southeastern Canada, the United States, northern Mexico, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands and the Greater Antilles.
The northern mockingbird is known for its intelligence. A 2009 study showed that the bird was able to recognize individual humans, particularly noting those who had previously been intruders or threats. Also birds recognize their breeding spots and return to areas in which they had greatest success in previous years. Urban birds are more likely to demonstrate this behavior. Finally, the mockingbird is influential in United States culture, being the state bird of five states, appearing in book titles, songs and lullabies, and making other appearances in popular culture. Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, had a pet mockingbird named "Dick".

10 Fast Facts About Northern Mockingbirds!
There's more to this flying copycat than meets the eye . . . or ear.
The Northern Mockingbird is one of North America’s most beloved mimics. The skilled singer has also become inextricable from American popular culture, providing inspiration for the fictional "Mockingjay" of the Hunger Games franchise to being a central theme in the iconic novel To Kill a Mockingbird. John James Audubon was a fan of the mocker as well. Here are some facts you might not have known about this American classic.
There are a total of 16 avian species in the world with the name “mockingbird,” but the Northern Mockingbird is the only one native to the United States. Other nearby species include the elusive Blue Mockingbird of Mexico and the island-dwelling Bahama Mockingbird, both of which can occasionally appear in the U.S.
The Northern Mockingbird is a year-round resident across much of the U.S., but an expansion into the northeast has been successful due in part to the multiflora rose, or rambler rose. Native to Asia, this invasive rosebush was introduced to the United States in the late 1700s as a root stock for ornamental roses. It makes an ideal nest site for mockingbirds because of its tasty berries and thick tangle of branches. (Editor's note: If you want to provide food and shelter for the Northern Mockingbird and other backyard favorites with native plants, try our handy native plants database.)
The mockingbird's latin name is Mimus polyglottos, which literally translates to “many-tongued mimic.” A polyglot is a person who speaks many languages, referencing the bird’s ability to imitate sounds from its environment. While mockingbirds are known to sing several hundred different songs, some research suggests that they might not learn to copy new sounds in adulthood, as previously thought.
A study released in October 2019 found that, in addition to mimicking the calls of other birds and manmade noises like music and machinery, Northern Mockingbirds have been known to imitate at least 12 different species of North American frogs and toads. In fact, John James Audubon was so in awe of this bird's singing ability, he wrote of the Northern Mockingbird in Birds of America, “There is probably no bird in the world that possesses all the musical qualifications of this king of song, who has derived all from Nature's self."
Because of the Northern Mockingbird’s impressive vocal talents, the illegal pet trade depleted their populations by poaching wild birds across the east coast in the 19th century. The best singers were worth up to $50 in 1828—that’s more than $1,300 in today’s dollars.
Northern Mockingbirds have easily adapted to human development, taking up residence across suburban towns and cities. Wide-open lawns and parks are perfect for hunting their insect prey, and males often sing from perches like the tops of houses and telephone poles, where their performance can involve leaping into the air and fluttering back down.
Mockers are prolific breeders. They have been known to make as many as seven nesting attempts during a breeding season, and one female even set an astonishing record of laying 27 eggs in a single season.
The white patches on a Northern Mockingbird’s wings and outer tail feathers serve dual purposes: The birds often show off these plumes during mating rituals, and they also flash them when defending their territory from potential predators like hawks and snakes.
Mockingbirds can be extraordinarily territorial. They've been known to swoop and dive at pretty much anything, including people, that gets close to theirs nests, which are usually placed between 3 and 10 feet off the ground. They will also regularly chase other birds away from their preferred food sources, like fruit-bearing trees, in the winter.
The Northern Mockingbird is the state bird of Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas. In true Texas fashion, the 1927 legislation declaring the Northern Mockingbird the state’s official bird reasoned that the species is “a fighter for the protection of his home, falling, if need be, in its defense, like any true Texan."
