bikini kill live at Macondo, Los Angeles, CA, April 25, 1993. Not For The Lack of Trying, Lather, and Canopy opened for them. this video was shot by HORNSS; uploaded here / drive. yes, this is the show Kathleen smacked a photographer at! a lot of bands in the 90s, especially in the punk scene, weren't big on being filmed or photographed, unless it was someone who asked permission beforehand. while the photographer worked for the venue according to the owner, it wasn't discussed with the band.

*Slides two different JATP OCs over and runs away to hide again*
I was telling @dancingsunflowers-ocs how I was interested in potentially using Kit Connor and Joe Locke as fcs for anything, but was struggling due to their amazing on-screen chemistry in Heartstopper making it hard for me to pair them up with other fcs. Thus, she helped me create my newest babies…
First, we have Frederick “Freddie” Peters
Reggie’s younger brother who he never met
After Reggie’s death, his parents moved into the same neighborhood as Julie’s parents and had Freddie
He never knew about his older brother because their parents never talked about him
Was still heavily influenced by him through his music taste (their parents never got rid of Reggie’s music collection so they gave it to Freddie), as well as learning to play the drums
Alex becomes his idol once he starts getting to know the band through Julie
Julie and Flynn are his best friends, and whenever things are rough at home, he goes and stays with one of them
He doesn’t learn about Reggie and that he’s apart of Julie’s new band until he found an old picture of him at his house the same day Julie performs with the boys and gets back into the music program
Julie kind of meditates between the two of them since the boys can only be seen by her, but it’s a pretty emotional meeting
Oh, fun fact, in this story, Bobby and Trevor are two separate people (I’m making Trevor Bobby’s older brother because I’ve seen people do that in certain JatP fanfics), so that means Bobby died with Luke, Reggie, and Alex and Reggie and Bobby are bfs because I will die on the Boggie hill
Basically what that means is my bi king Reggie is super proud and supportive when finding out his little brother is gay
He tries to help Freddie with his longtime crush with disastrous results, which brings me now to…
Samuel “Sam” Anderson
A fellow lacrosse player with Nick, as well as a good friend
CANNOT understand why he is dating Carrie as she is not the nicest person (he also beginning to suspect that she might prefer girls over boys given the amount of times he’s seen her staring at Flynn when no one’s looking)
Adores Julie, but thinks she can do better than Nick (he loves his friend, but Nick is not what Julie needs in his opinion)
Is not musically inclined, but is an extremely talented photographer
Flynn asks him to help her with Julie and the Phantoms’ social media and he agrees
He does it because it’s good practice and he loves the band, but the main reason he does it is so he can get closer to Freddie
Boy has had a HUGE crush on him since forever
He is also a bi king like Reggie

TYLER HYNES AND RHIANNON FIST STAR IN ‘A PICTURE OF HER,’ A NEW, ORIGINAL MOVIE PREMIERING MARCH 25, ON HALLMARK CHANNEL
Part of the Network’s Annual Spring into Love Programming Event
STUDIO CITY, CA – February 7, 2022 – Tyler Hynes (“Three Wise Men and a Baby,” “Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas”), Rhiannon Fish (“Nikki & Nora: Sister Sleuths,” “Sweet as Pie”), star in “A Picture of Her,” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, March 25 (8 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Channel as part of the network’s annual Spring into Love programming event.
Beth (Fish) works on her dad’s salmon boat, harbored in a picturesque fishing village in the pacific northwest. When her Aunt Dody (Samantha Ferris, “Devil in Ohio”) breaks her leg and has no family to help care for her, Beth offers to go visit her in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Jake Driver (Hynes), a freelance photojournalist who goes by the name of “Shutterbot,” dreams of a career as a fine art photographer. Until his career takes off, he accepts assignments from a friend at a popular weekly newspaper. His next gig is to shoot springtime at a farmers’ market where he happens to snap a stunning candid photo of Beth at the flower stand and inadvertently, includes it with his assignment. It ends up earning a prize position on the cover of the weekly and becomes an overnight viral sensation. Jake is stunned by the accident but thrilled when he unexpectedly meets Beth at a dog park. Finding a way to get to know Beth without her guessing who he is, a friendship rapidly blossoms, and he becomes smitten by her unpretentiousness and effortless charm. Because of the photo, Beth now finds herself fielding offers from modeling agencies and invitations to appear on talk shows. Swept up by her newfound fame and encouraged by Dody, Beth agrees to appear in a commercial, and it is there she discovers Jake’s been the mystery photographer all along. Angry and hurt, Beth turns her back on her short-lived fame and heads back to the safety and obscurity of her father’s boat. Jake desperately wants to explain to Beth but is unsure how to even contact her. It is only when her Aunt Dody, realizing that both Beth and Jake are in love, cooks up a scheme to reunite them in the charming fishing village.
“A Picture of Her” is from Photo Road Productions Ltd. Michael Shepard, Marnie Young, Jack Grossbart and Linda Kent are executive producers. The movie is produced by Charles Cooper. Michael Robison directed from a script by Donald Davenport & Jeff Wood.

KEEPIN' IT GANGSTA-FRESH ON L.A.'s EASTSIDE -- ATWATER VILLAGE, BABY!
NOTE: I used to live in Los Feliz as a kid, from the mid '90s to 2000, right next door to ATWV but no one ever told me the B. Boys were making music just a mile away from me.
PIC INFO: Resolution at 1242x1223 -- Spotlight on the BEASTIE BOYS in front of their then own recording studio G-Son, photographed Glen E. Friedman, c. "Check Your Head" sessions, early '90s, Atwater Village, eastside of Los Angeles (NOT East L.A.), east of Hollywood, east of Los Feliz, CA.
"It was a clubhouse atmosphere,” says Caldato. “It was the most ideal setup that anybody could have.” Dubbed G-Son Studios, it’s where they recorded their third and fourth albums, "Check Your Head" and "Ill Communication." G-Son also became the headquarters of their record label Grand Royal, their magazine of the same name, and the Diamond-affiliated clothing label, X-Large. The steep metal staircase to its back alley entrance was used as a shooting location in the video for “Pass the Mic” the first single from "Check Your Head.""

March 15-16, 1968: At the Shrine, Los Angeles, Cream played two sets per night in front of a crowd of ca 5000. Does being born at a Cream concert count as having been born under a good sign or under a bad sign? [photos by Chuck Boyd]
CONCERT REVIEW: "Packing the Valley State gym Friday afternoon, and the mammoth Shrine twice on Friday and Saturday nights, Eric Clapton and cohorts were beyond expectations. Saturday night provided one of the heaviest concerts ever encountered by local craniums.
Clapton, working over his guitar like it was a machine, Jack Bruce running all over his bass as well as playing harp on the Butterfield plateau, and Ginger Baker, seemingly entrapped in a maze of drums, were collectively, and on solos, far better than their two albums ever forecast.
Clapton and Bruce are so talented it's almost disgusting, especially Bruce. His voice seems ready to crack on every note, yet it keeps going higher and louder, vibrating to the corners of the farthest "Men's Room" 75 yards away.
Clapton's hands took off the minute he went on stage and never stopped flying. His 20-minute ad lib late in the second set was hypnotic, to say the least. Without trying to rile the legions of Hendrix and Blue Cheer fans present, Clapton concentrated on wailing the blues -- and did he ever.
Climaxing five hours of performances (collectively over the weekend) the Cream launched into the "Toad" with a 25 minute solo by Baker destroying what equilibrium was left in the Exposition Hall.
With the Cream thing, Pinnacle has launched a veritable three-ring circus, with helium-filled balloons, beach balls rotating around the balconies and a photographer catching all those flying heads on film for the light show at the next Pinnacle dance. Highlighting the announcements was a "plea for a doctor in the house" to aid in delivering a baby at the concert, and the word from the police that "Mr Reddin would like all those under 18 to leave the concert or risk arrest." No one moved."
~ Bob Barnett for the Valley State Daily Sundial (March 1968)

NY / After Our Bodies Meet
Cyriaco Lopes, Sunset (documentation of a performance), 1997, Inkjet Print, 4” x 6″
After Our Bodies Meet January 9 – February 14, 2021 The gallery will be open every Sat & Sun from 3 – 6pm and by appointment
Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York is pleased to present After Our Bodies Meet, a group exhibition curated by Daniel Johnson, featuring works by Margrethe Aanestad, Daniel Arturo Almeida, Dalia Amara, Cyriaco Lopes, and Randy West.
In the novel Tar Baby, Toni Morrison wrote, “At some point in life the world's beauty becomes enough. You don't need to photograph, paint or even remember it. It is enough.” Exploring themes of love and memory, the artists in this show have created works that grapple with how we relate to each other and ultimately posit the question: What is enough? Whether through the investigation of familial bonds as with Almeida and Amara’s work, romantic love in West’s series, or the nature of being in the work of Aanestad and Lopes, the works in this show evoke an ethos of delicateness and a celebration of impermanence.
Margrethe Aanestad
is a Norwegian-born artist (1974), living and working in Brooklyn, NY and Stavanger, Norway. Aanestad studied fine arts at the Rogaland Art College and graduated with a BA from the University of Stavanger in Culture&Art Management (2000). She is one of the co-founders and co-owner of the creative studio/working space ELEFANT (est 2013-). Aanestad serves on the advisory board of Kunsthall Stavanger and Open Source Gallery (NYC). Currently she is working on a commission for NYU/Clive Davis Institute, and will soon enter a 3 month-residency at Residency Unlimited, NY.
Daniel Arturo Almeida
(b. 1992. Caracas, Venezuela) is a cultural producer and artist working through photography, installation, archiving, journalism, and public engagement. His practice chronicles intimate and collective stories that shape belief systems and hierarchies of power in the Americas. The product of generational migrations, Almeida researches images, music, anecdotes, and documents portraying national pride, nostalgia, and collective amnesia. The work observes shared culture through loss, decadence, hope, and empathy. He has exhibited in The U.S.A in various institutions, galleries, and festivals, including La Salita Project, Columbia Teachers College, Project for Empty Space, Satellite Art Show, Doral Contemporary Art Museum, and the SVA Chelsea Galleries, among others. Almeida holds an MFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts (2020) and a BFA in Painting and Installation from Florida International University (2017). He currently lives and works in Queens, NY.

He also teaches in the Stetson University low residency M.F.A. of the Americas in Poetry in the Expanded Field.
Randy West (born 1960 in Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American fine art photographer, perhaps best known for his distinctive and avant-garde scanner use of the photographic medium, as seen across several series of his work. West is also on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts, and a director of the school's Master of Fine Arts program for photography, video, and related media. West has been represented by the Bruce Silverstein Gallery in New York and the Craig Krull Gallery in Los Angeles. He has had solo exhibitions at Jan Kesner Gallery, Yancey Richardson Gallery, Stephen Wirtz Gallery, the Houston Center for Photography, and as part of the Here Theater Project. His work has also appeared in group exhibitions, including exhibitions with the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the International Center for Photography, the San Diego Contemporary Art Museum, the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, and the Marlborough Gallery.
Daniel AnTon Johnson is an artist with a diverse practice based in photography, language, film, and video. His work examines how technology shapes notions of identity within popular culture and contemporary visual media. Focusing on authorship and representation, Johnson’s practice explores cultural and visual literacies and how they form worldviews. Johnson has taught and lectured at School of Visual Arts, Adelphi University, Rutgers University-Newark, and Columbia University, and mentored teens at ICP and The Harlem School of the Arts. Johnson holds an MFA in Photography, Video and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts, and an MA in English from Washington College. He currently resides in Brooklyn.

As far back as I can remember, being a little kid in my bedroom, I would dance and put on little stage shows and lip-sync in the mirror before I even saw that on TV, ya know. I definitely grew up watching MTV and I was like a video baby where it was like, “whose music video is on TV?” Now they don’t play video on MTV. So when it was time to graduate high school, I was like, “Well, I need to go to college, what is that going to look like?” And I thought, “What do I want to do?” and I could never find clothes for myself, the way I envisioned them in my head, so I went to fashion school. Graduate Fashion School and I was working in the industry for a little bit, and I was till kinda bored and my soul always wanted to dance. One weekend I decided to go take a dance class and when I was done with that dance class, the instructor pulled me to side and he said, “Who’s your dance agent?” I was like, “What do you mean?” He was like, “You’re not signed?” I was like, “No, this is my first dance class.” He was like, “Oh my god. You did really well. You need to be doing this.”
I was doing fashion and then I was a back-dancer. I quit my job so that I could audition. I was booking a few commercials, coca-cola commercials, a few stage shows here and there, dancing back-up for some artists; I loved it but there something more calling me. One day, over Christmas break, I was in my kitchen and I just started spitting out lyrics and started writing them down. My first song, “Bangie Power”, came from that. I worked with a producer to come up with the song and I did a video for it; choreographed, styled it and I was like, “This is it!” I’m putting my fashion with my dance and what I have to say into this visual package. That’s when I found that I was home as an artist.
My first two performances, at Mustache Mondays and at Carnival, which is a Choreographers Ball, I knew that’s what I was to do. It was the easiest, effortless thing I could do. It was easier than just designing for another brand; it was easier than being a back-up dance and fitting in into a cast of like 10. Taking center stage, just expressing myself in all my authenticity, was the easiest thing for me to do that I was like, “I’m going to do this for the rest of my life.” No matter how hard it gets, no matter what I have to do, no matter how in debt I am, no matter where I’m living, who’s couch I’m crashing on, this is what I’m gonna do.
It’s that dream that I had when I was little kid. I would go to bed and dream of me being on this stage doing these elaborate performances that didn’t make sense then but now I’m like holy shit, I’m in my dream.
