Not For The Lack of Trying, Lather, and Canopy opened for them. this video was shot by HORNSS; uploaded here / drive. yes, this is the show Kathleen smacked a photographer at! a lot of bands in the 90s, especially in the punk scene, weren't big on being filmed or photographed, unless it was someone who asked permission beforehand. while the photographer worked for the venue according to the owner, it wasn't discussed with the band.

TYLER HYNES AND RHIANNON FIST STAR IN ‘A PICTURE OF HER,’ A NEW, ORIGINAL MOVIE PREMIERING MARCH 25, ON HALLMARK CHANNEL
Part of the Network’s Annual Spring into Love Programming Event
STUDIO CITY, CA – February 7, 2022 – Tyler Hynes (“Three Wise Men and a Baby,” “Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas”), Rhiannon Fish (“Nikki & Nora: Sister Sleuths,” “Sweet as Pie”), star in “A Picture of Her,” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, March 25 (8 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Channel as part of the network’s annual Spring into Love programming event.
Beth (Fish) works on her dad’s salmon boat, harbored in a picturesque fishing village in the pacific northwest. When her Aunt Dody (Samantha Ferris, “Devil in Ohio”) breaks her leg and has no family to help care for her, Beth offers to go visit her in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Jake Driver (Hynes), a freelance photojournalist who goes by the name of “Shutterbot,” dreams of a career as a fine art photographer. Until his career takes off, he accepts assignments from a friend at a popular weekly newspaper. His next gig is to shoot springtime at a farmers’ market where he happens to snap a stunning candid photo of Beth at the flower stand and inadvertently, includes it with his assignment. It ends up earning a prize position on the cover of the weekly and becomes an overnight viral sensation. Jake is stunned by the accident but thrilled when he unexpectedly meets Beth at a dog park. Finding a way to get to know Beth without her guessing who he is, a friendship rapidly blossoms, and he becomes smitten by her unpretentiousness and effortless charm. Because of the photo, Beth now finds herself fielding offers from modeling agencies and invitations to appear on talk shows. Swept up by her newfound fame and encouraged by Dody, Beth agrees to appear in a commercial, and it is there she discovers Jake’s been the mystery photographer all along. Angry and hurt, Beth turns her back on her short-lived fame and heads back to the safety and obscurity of her father’s boat. Jake desperately wants to explain to Beth but is unsure how to even contact her. It is only when her Aunt Dody, realizing that both Beth and Jake are in love, cooks up a scheme to reunite them in the charming fishing village.
“A Picture of Her” is from Photo Road Productions Ltd. Michael Shepard, Marnie Young, Jack Grossbart and Linda Kent are executive producers. The movie is produced by Charles Cooper. Michael Robison directed from a script by Donald Davenport & Jeff Wood.

KEEPIN' IT GANGSTA-FRESH ON L.A.'s EASTSIDE -- ATWATER VILLAGE, BABY!
NOTE: I used to live in Los Feliz as a kid, from the mid '90s to 2000, right next door to ATWV but no one ever told me the B. Boys were making music just a mile away from me.
PIC INFO: Resolution at 1242x1223 -- Spotlight on the BEASTIE BOYS in front of their then own recording studio G-Son, photographed Glen E. Friedman, c. "Check Your Head" sessions, early '90s, Atwater Village, eastside of Los Angeles (NOT East L.A.), east of Hollywood, east of Los Feliz, CA.
"It was a clubhouse atmosphere,” says Caldato. “It was the most ideal setup that anybody could have.” Dubbed G-Son Studios, it’s where they recorded their third and fourth albums, "Check Your Head" and "Ill Communication." G-Son also became the headquarters of their record label Grand Royal, their magazine of the same name, and the Diamond-affiliated clothing label, X-Large. The steep metal staircase to its back alley entrance was used as a shooting location in the video for “Pass the Mic”  the first single from "Check Your Head.""

March 15-16, 1968: At the Shrine, Los Angeles, Cream played two sets per night in front of a crowd of ca 5000. Does being born at a Cream concert count as having been born under a good sign or under a bad sign? [photos by Chuck Boyd]
CONCERT REVIEW: "Packing the Valley State gym Friday afternoon, and the mammoth Shrine twice on Friday and Saturday nights, Eric Clapton and cohorts were beyond expectations. Saturday night provided one of the heaviest concerts ever encountered by local craniums.
Clapton, working over his guitar like it was a machine, Jack Bruce running all over his bass as well as playing harp on the Butterfield plateau, and Ginger Baker, seemingly entrapped in a maze of drums, were collectively, and on solos, far better than their two albums ever forecast.
Clapton and Bruce are so talented it's almost disgusting, especially Bruce. His voice seems ready to crack on every note, yet it keeps going higher and louder, vibrating to the corners of the farthest "Men's Room" 75 yards away.
Clapton's hands took off the minute he went on stage and never stopped flying. His 20-minute ad lib late in the second set was hypnotic, to say the least. Without trying to rile the legions of Hendrix and Blue Cheer fans present, Clapton concentrated on wailing the blues -- and did he ever.
Climaxing five hours of performances (collectively over the weekend) the Cream launched into the "Toad" with a 25 minute solo by Baker destroying what equilibrium was left in the Exposition Hall.
With the Cream thing, Pinnacle has launched a veritable three-ring circus, with helium-filled balloons, beach balls rotating around the balconies and a photographer catching all those flying heads on film for the light show at the next Pinnacle dance. Highlighting the announcements was a "plea for a doctor in the house" to aid in delivering a baby at the concert, and the word from the police that "Mr Reddin would like all those under 18 to leave the concert or risk arrest." No one moved."
~ Bob Barnett for the Valley State Daily Sundial (March 1968)

Day 12 - Rewind
The Winchesters had not kept many memories of their earliest childhood. When the fire broke out and the house burned down, all their possessions were gone except for a small box containing photos that John kept in the trunk of the Impala. Dean remembered seeing it for many years without John really pulling it out of there, warm in the false bottom of the car. On rare evenings, however, John took the time to take it with him to the motel room where they were staying before he plunged back into the past years.
Aside from a few pictures of his mother or him as a baby, Dean hadn’t seen much else. John jealously guarded the box as if he were afraid it would catch fire too. Fortunately, the years passed and with them, the fear of opening this box faded. Dean had been allowed to keep a photo of his mother, brother and himself in his wallet while he was already old enough to hunt. Later, John disappeared and the box returned to them.
Dean perfectly remembered the day Sam asked him to open the box with him. They had just returned to Lawrence to take care of a poltergeist in their old house and had briefly seen their mother’s ghost at the bottom of the stairs. This vision had been such a shock and, John not being around, Dean decided that a night to remember the good old days couldn’t hurt. Although they both had very few stories to tell in the photos, being too young to remember.
The years went by and the box followed them. It made a short stop at Bobby’s when Dean had to fix the Impala from top to bottom before following them back to the roads and finally landing at the bunker. Sam and Dean had taken the liberty of sharing a few photos to put in their room before carefully storing the box under the elder’s bed.
It was therefore not uncommon for Dean to dig up these photos, which he now knew by heart, during a lonely evening. They had taken care to weigh down the box with other memories over the years and now, other faces came to rub shoulders with those of the Winchester family. Nevertheless, these faces were still family members themselves.
Sighing and the outline weighed down by an invisible weight that seemed unable to leave him since months, Dean sat down on the edge of his bed and opened the box again with some relief. Going through these photos was like going back to his childhood. It was to go back in time and rewind the tape of his life to replay the best moments. With a small smile on his face, Dean contemplated another portrait of his mother holding a smaller version of him in her arms at the hospital. Mary was younger in this photo and she had always been radiant. Of course, it wasn’t like she had to endure the damage of time, Dean somberly thought. He carefully set the photo aside and took another.
This one was more recent, he had to be at least 26 years old and his brother four years younger. Dean remembered that Bobby had taken this picture in the backyard of his car wreckage while the two brothers laughed at a joke he had long forgotten. Sam still wore such short hair that it came into his eyes and Dean had this oversized leather jacket on his shoulders that had once belonged to his father and that he wore for years. Everything seemed simple and light at the time despite their already hectic life.
Dean gently nodded at his little brother’s childish face in this photo.
He knew that Sam kept his own memories in his room, lying on his desk or hanging on the cork board above it. In addition to a few other pictures from their childhood, one photo was different from the others. Dean had already noticed it, as it seemed to be much better preserved than the others despite the fact that it was at least a decade old now, as if Sam was taking special care of it. In the picture, one could distinguish a young blonde woman with a face dotted with moles standing beside Sam wearing a Stanford sweatshirt. Both seemed to be at a student party and held hands with a shy smile. Maybe then Sam sometimes had the same wish as him, to reverse the course of time to find the one he once loved.
Dean put the photo with his brother on the bed and went through some other memories before stopping at the photo they had taken at Bobby’s. "The last night on Earth," had he said before the camera went off with a quick click. He almost regretted having said those few words now that extinct faces were sitting on that photo in place of the usual smiles. Everyone was preparing for death that evening, and some found it.
Dean also lingered on Castiel’s serious face, ramrod straight in his eternal oversized trench coat. This angel who had sacrificed everything for them and who continued to do so day in, day out at their side. He briefly wondered if Castiel also kept pictures of his brothers and sisters somewhere, perhaps of his garrison even. But the angel was not on good terms with more than half of his fellows, and even if he was, he doubted that any of them would ever let themselves be photographed. As a result, Dean was pleased to know that they were probably the only family in which Castiel had several photos of him, some even showing him with a rare relaxed smile. Like this one where Sam was teaching him how to use a computer and the angel laughing at one of Dean’s jokes.
He also took the time to look at Bobby, the surrogate father whom he missed a little more every day, but that he was happy to find in this box whenever he needed it. Lost in his thoughts, Dean looked up at another picture in the box depicting him and Sam fishing with John. Dean moistened his lips with a nostalgic look for the photo, almost melancholic. He remembered that day when the three of them spent the afternoon at a pond in Oklahoma before taking out that huge pike out of the water and that they were showing in the photo. However, their faces were relatively closed in the picture which revived this bitterness in Dean’s chest.
He also remembered the night before when John was so drunk while looking at Mary’s pictures that he started crying in their motel room. Sam woke up to his sobs as Dean tried to comfort their father as best he could, but no appropriate words could come out of his mouth. He had felt so helpless in the face of his father mourning the death of a mother that he himself could not overcome, even years later. When John wasn’t at the motel, Dean was worried every day that he wouldn’t come back and walk through their room door. When he was there, the days were never the same: either John would take them out for a nice burger at the local diner, or he would drink until he couldn’t move.
Dean didn’t even count the nights he had to take care of his father in addition to his younger brother who barely understood what was going on. He did not consider having an unhappy childhood, he had grown up with Sam and it was the only home he needed to be happy. But he could not help but think back to those moments of solitudes that he had felt as a teenager when he saw other children growing up differently.
Dean sighed and tried to get ride of his dark thoughts. In any case, there was no point in bringing up the past like that, he already had too much to do with the present and his responsibilities. Moreover, he felt that he had not progressed that badly despite all the events of his life. Slowly, Dean put the pictures away and closed the box before putting it back under his bed. He barely had time to get up that he already heard Sam calling him to eat, Castiel having just returned. A pleasant smile stretched his lips.
Yes, he didn’t particularly want to live in the past. Not anymore.
* * * @winchester-reload
So, the original plan was to do Dean’s POV, then Sam’s, then Cas’... But I ended up with this idea rather than anything and I tried to include Sam and Cas too anyway. Hope you liked it, see you tomorrow for some ladies!

NY / After Our Bodies Meet

Cyriaco Lopes, Sunset (documentation of a performance), 1997, Inkjet Print, 4” x 6″
After Our Bodies Meet January 9 – February 14, 2021 The gallery will be open every Sat & Sun from 3 – 6pm and by appointment
Tiger Strikes Asteroid New York is pleased to present After Our Bodies Meet, a group exhibition curated by Daniel Johnson, featuring works by Margrethe Aanestad, Daniel Arturo Almeida, Dalia Amara, Cyriaco Lopes, and Randy West.
In the novel Tar Baby, Toni Morrison wrote, “At some point in life the world's beauty becomes enough. You don't need to photograph, paint or even remember it. It is enough.” Exploring themes of love and memory, the artists in this show have created works that grapple with how we relate to each other and ultimately posit the question: What is enough? Whether through the investigation of familial bonds as with Almeida and Amara’s work, romantic love in West’s series, or the nature of being in the work of Aanestad and Lopes, the works in this show evoke an ethos of delicateness and a celebration of impermanence.
Margrethe Aanestad
is a Norwegian-born artist (1974), living and working in Brooklyn, NY and Stavanger, Norway. Aanestad studied fine arts at the Rogaland Art College and graduated with a BA from the University of Stavanger in Culture&Art Management (2000). Since 2001 she has worked independently to initiate, produce, and curate projects at the art scene in Stavanger, where she also co-founded and co-directed the artist-run, non-profit, space Prosjektrom Normanns (2011- 2020). She is one of the co-founders and co-owner of the creative studio/working space ELEFANT (est 2013-). Aanestad serves on the advisory board of Kunsthall Stavanger and Open Source Gallery (NYC). Currently she is working on a commission for NYU/Clive Davis Institute, and will soon enter a 3 month-residency at Residency Unlimited, NY.
Daniel Arturo Almeida

The product of generational migrations, Almeida researches images, music, anecdotes, and documents portraying national pride, nostalgia, and collective amnesia. The work observes shared culture through loss, decadence, hope, and empathy. He has exhibited in The U.S.A in various institutions, galleries, and festivals, including La Salita Project, Columbia Teachers College, Project for Empty Space, Satellite Art Show, Doral Contemporary Art Museum, and the SVA Chelsea Galleries, among others. Almeida holds an MFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts (2020) and a BFA in Painting and Installation from Florida International University (2017). Randy West (born 1960 in Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American fine art photographer, perhaps best known for his distinctive and avant-garde scanner use of the photographic medium, as seen across several series of his work. West is also on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts, and a director of the school's Master of Fine Arts program for photography, video, and related media. West has been represented by the Bruce Silverstein Gallery in New York and the Craig Krull Gallery in Los Angeles. He has had solo exhibitions at Jan Kesner Gallery, Yancey Richardson Gallery, Stephen Wirtz Gallery, the Houston Center for Photography, and as part of the Here Theater Project. His work has also appeared in group exhibitions, including exhibitions with the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the International Center for Photography, the San Diego Contemporary Art Museum, the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, and the Marlborough Gallery.
Daniel AnTon Johnson is an artist with a diverse practice based in photography, language, film, and video. His work examines how technology shapes notions of identity within popular culture and contemporary visual media. Focusing on authorship and representation, Johnson’s practice explores cultural and visual literacies and how they form worldviews. Johnson has taught and lectured at School of Visual Arts, Adelphi University, Rutgers University-Newark, and Columbia University, and mentored teens at ICP and The Harlem School of the Arts. Johnson holds an MFA in Photography, Video and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts, and an MA in English from Washington College. He currently resides in Brooklyn.

As far back as I can remember, being a little kid in my bedroom, I would dance and put on little stage shows and lip-sync in the mirror before I even saw that on TV, ya know. I definitely grew up watching MTV and I was like a video baby where it was like, “whose music video is on TV?” Now they don’t play video on MTV. So when it was time to graduate high school, I was like, “Well, I need to go to college, what is that going to look like?” And I thought, “What do I want to do?” and I could never find clothes for myself, the way I envisioned them in my head, so I went to fashion school. Graduate Fashion School and I was working in the industry for a little bit, and I was till kinda bored and my soul always wanted to dance. One weekend I decided to go take a dance class and when I was done with that dance class, the instructor pulled me to side and he said, “Who’s your dance agent?” I was like, “What do you mean?” He was like, “You’re not signed?” I was like, “No, this is my first dance class.” He was like, “Oh my god. You did really well. You need to be doing this.”
I was doing fashion and then I was a back-dancer. I quit my job so that I could audition. I was booking a few commercials, coca-cola commercials, a few stage shows here and there, dancing back-up for some artists; I loved it but there something more calling me. One day, over Christmas break, I was in my kitchen and I just started spitting out lyrics and started writing them down. My first song, “Bangie Power”, came from that. I worked with a producer to come up with the song and I did a video for it; choreographed, styled it and I was like, “This is it!” I’m putting my fashion with my dance and what I have to say into this visual package. That’s when I found that I was home as an artist.
My first two performances, at Mustache Mondays and at Carnival, which is a Choreographers Ball, I knew that’s what I was to do. It was the easiest, effortless thing I could do. It was easier than just designing for another brand; it was easier than being a back-up dance and fitting in into a cast of like 10. Taking center stage, just expressing myself in all my authenticity, was the easiest thing for me to do that I was like, “I’m going to do this for the rest of my life.” No matter how hard it gets, no matter what I have to do, no matter how in debt I am, no matter where I’m living, who’s couch I’m crashing on, this is what I’m gonna do.
It’s that dream that I had when I was little kid. I would go to bed and dream of me being on this stage doing these elaborate performances that didn’t make sense then but now I’m like holy shit, I’m in my dream.
