Rebelmeg's Drabbles - Chapter 31: Stunned into Stillness

Summary: Tony holds his daughter for the first time.

Tony, being who he was, wasn’t often just still. He was always in motion, always moving, talking, fidgeting. It was like all those extra IQ points expressed themselves through kinetic energy, and even when he was being quiet, he was always moving. But the moment the nurse transferred their baby girl onto a thin blanket, then placed her in Tony’s arms, he went completely, utterly still. He didn’t blink, or even breathe, as he looked down into her face, an expression of total awe on his face. “How is she?” Pepper asked softly, so much love making her heart ache as she looked at her husband and their daughter, the rest of the hospital room fading around them. Tony finally blinked, his eyes glimmering with tears, and seemed startled into breathing again. He took a shaky breath and opened his mouth to reply, but nothing came out. He couldn’t seem to make the words come out, so just shook his head and went back to staring at the little miracle in his arms. Smiling and feeling a little choked up herself, Pepper held out her arms for the both of them. They were her whole world, and she loved them.

Dexter writing prompt:

Dexter somehow ends up with a dog, a Pitbull to be exact. He does not like pets, he never had one as a kid and has no idea how to treat it. He tells his co-worker about the new addition someone’s real mean about it, but either Vince or Angel speak up and mention that pitbulls were actually bred as babysitting dogs (real fact!). Eventually the dog grows on him and they become besties. Dex even starts going on runs with him. If the story features Harrison I have this one scene in mind where Dex comes home and Harry is using the dog as a pillow. (Also Jamie adored the dog)

It’s just something about John Marston being twenty-six. Little John needs saving again. Twenty-six and he thinks he’s going to bleed out on a snowy mountain top. Twenty-six and he’s watching his friends die all around him. Twenty-six and he’s got a kid and a wife to think about. Twenty-six and one of the only fathers he’s ever known gets shot in front of him. Twenty-six and the only father he’s got left stands idly by while he gets arrested. Twenty-six and the only father he’s got is disappointed to see him out of jail. Twenty-six and the only father he’s got leaves him to die on the side of a railroad track. Twenty-six and he’s on a snowy mountain again, this time saying goodbye to his only brother. Little John needs saving again. Take my hat this time, too. I know, I know. Twenty-six and starting a life. Twenty-six and utterly, completely, absolutely alone.
