T: Daniel Ricciardo has a history with the team as well and you worked with him 10 years ago when it was Toro Rosso. How has he changed in the time he has been away?
M: You walk in the team, you see Daniel and you see the race winning guy. You see in the car the guy who has been hunting for races and podiums. The Daniel you see in the car is the Daniel who was fighting for the very top position. For whatever reasons, I'm lucky to have in our team right now a race winning guy. The Daniel we have now is the best Daniel we have seen. Of course, he has had a rough patch in the last few years, but ironically, it's probably putting him now in the best mindset, in the best spirit, in the best energy. He has this incredible technical sensitivities. He's buying into the project, he's living Visa CashApp RB with us, he's proud of the colours. He's pushing us with all the positivity we know about him. In the start of a project like that, having a guy like Daniel with us driiving the car is a game-changer.
T: Have you talked to him about the rough patch?
M: It's very difficult from the outside to understand it [...] but i would lie if I was not telling you that this increases the attention level that we have in making sure we have the right condition around him. So we are very careful with him and he is part of that process. He is driving that process in making sure we put him in the right spot, 360* in what define in the car and outside of the car and how we manage this energy.

when is it considered wrong to have a queer person die in the story? most of my characters are a part of the lgbt community, I'm still deciding what's going to happen to them in the story but a lot of people online say that you shouldn't kill off your gay characters. I was wondering if there any exceptions to this though?
We have a tag with a bit of Bury Your Gays stuff here, but honestly, this is a question we get a lot, and--
The problem with killing your characters isn't killing them, per se. It's refrigerating them.
An unfortunately nonzero percentage of stories with gay characters tend to follow a specific trend:
Gay character is introduced.
Protagonists reap the benefits of gay character. (Media creator reaps the benefits of gay character.)
Gay character no longer serves their aesthetic purpose.
Gay character is killed off.
Death of gay character traumatizes main character and pushes them toward an action.
Gay people are more than just plot devices to be introduced and later discarded when no longer useful, and the fact that is happens most often in the form of killing them also just...isn't great. We already face a disproportionate amount of harm in reality--why would any LGBT person who's reading a new character they relate to want to see that person suddenly murdered for seemingly no reason?
This trope is extremely similar to the "Women in Refrigerators" trope, coined by Gail Simone in 1999, a comics author who realized that a lot of the female characters in comics tended to end up dead.
...Violently. Raped, murdered, cut into pieces, sliced and diced and shoved into a refrigerator, these women served as mere plot devices to motivate a (male) protagonist.
Bury Your Gays is very, very similar, in that it treats gay people just as disposably. Worse, it often happens just after the character in question has had their first kiss/come out/other important moments in exploring their own identity, which undermines that development and, frankly, just doesn't fucking feel good to any gay reader.
But none of this is to say that you shouldn't kill your characters, even if they're gay. I've killed off a lot of queer characters in my time. The difference is that those deaths were actually well-written, significant and properly explored, part of the story in a way that a lot of "disposable" gay characters weren't.
My protagonists felt long-term, agonizing grief at losing their friend/girlfriend/etc. It affected the way they thought and acted about relationships for the rest of their lives. More, the death of that character was natural, part of the story in a way that felt reasonable and realistic. It wasn't unnecessary violence for the sake of shock value, or disposing of a no-longer-useful character; these were people who lived lives for as long as they could and affected the world around them.
All of this is basically to say: Kill any character you want. But think about why you're doing it. What narrative purpose does it serve? If they left another way, would it achieve the same effect? Is it a real, true tragedy, or just death for the sake of drama?
(Although death for the sake of drama isn't necessarily a bad thing either, plenty of stories and genres exist that way (COUGH COUGH: SHAKESPEARE) but when it's only the gay characters experiencing that particular phenomenon--well. That's not so fun, is it?)

OFMD Finale spoilers
But. . . I just realised Izzy gets shot in his left side. . .
The side that is “non lethal” in this universe?? Really? We’re gonna go with that?
It really just feels like Izzy’s death just blatantly broke so many rules for the universe and the audience. We thought we were safe, that this was a camp comfort show, with miraculous recoveries, where no one we actually cared about died- But.
But-
No. Our “harsh reality” still somehow exists. We still can’t get our happy ever after?
I’m still on the fence about if we should be calling this out as BYG or not. Does it count if everyone is queer and one queer character dies? No, normally not. But. . . just something about Izzy going on this beautiful journey of queer discovery, self acceptance and found family love, only to be discarded in the most avoidable death possible, once his arc is over and he has no use for the main couple/characters anymore-
In fact, where he actually potentially “jeopardises” them by being in love with Ed. . . It just hits me the wrong way? And got me in that tender spot where a lot of my BYG/QB grief/trauma goes. Idek.
Izzy, their unicorn: one true captain. . .
His death just seems so trite and pointless to me-

part 1. hiii!!! i wanted to ask about a story a friend and i are writing. the thing is, both our first characters are mlm, and at the end, because of psychological reasons, character a kills character b. i can't help but think this thing goes right into the bury your gays "trope". i'm not the one that made up the story, my friend is (he is gay, btw), i just write it, but i don't know if it's a good idea, considering the story, that i write it as a cis bi woman.
part 2. i want to help my best friend writing it, he is pretty excited about this and the idea of me helping him. but i think the story could come up as offensive, especially in my hands. i don't know what to do since he is really enthusiastic about this. what do you think? this a very cool blog by the way!! i really liked it
Answer
See also: our Bury Your Gays tag.
The historical reasons behind BYG were to punish queer characters for being queer. That doesn't mean that queer characters have to be written as immortal. People die, it happens.
It especially becomes a problem with any of the following:
there are no other living queer characters. specifically, audiences who saw themselves in the character who died need continued, living representation within the story.
the death is a plot "punishment" for their queerness, or inevitability related to their queerness.
the dead characters are defined more by their death than written as a fully-fleshed out character. (the nuances of this can become muddy when a character died before the beginning of the story, but that's not the case here.)
All that said, what I want to know is what you mean by "because of psychological reasons, character a kills character b."
What are these psychological reasons exactly? Are you talking about a psychotic break? Are you pathologizing abuse? This, to me, brings up a bigger red flag. Not because BYG is not a concern, but because this was not initially clocked to you as something worth addressing and checking for sensitivity. Typically I can cover quite a few disability topics (particularly mental illness, but I'm also hard of hearing, use a walker, among others) when they touch on queer topics within this blog.
But I suggest turning to blogs like @cripplecharacters for advice on writing disabled characters.

It’s not just the fact that Billie goes after Dean’s heart in 15x18 directly before Cas confesses to him, or even that Cas fell in love with Dean because of his heart, that he loved the whole world because of Dean’s heart. It’s also that it’s always Dean’s heart, Dean’s heart that a gay man died giving him in 1x12. And it’s the invocation of a barely concealed gay-slur-adjacent vampire slur as established in 2x03. It’s Dean literally dying via acting out on his attraction to men, it’s Dean literally dying by choking himself because of his queerness. It’s that every possibility that Billie lists, every possible way we’re told Dean could die is related to him being a queer man. It’s that when he does die, it is via vampire, vampires who rip people's tongues out, the suggestion of this death nestled snuggly in here between dying via his heart or his dick, two arrows and an f-slur, here via berens and dabb at the very first rumblings of dabb era, a warning sign and a bookend.
