100% agreed. I love genshin and love the designs as the character designs main selling point (along with gameplay). So you can see every little detail. However sometimes the outfits don't do justice on the character or fall under racist stereotypes. (Big emphasis on Kokomi and Dori)

Kokomi being a high priestess and military leader yet her whole character design tells me she pastel mermaid aesthetics. Kinda wished her looked like either these two.

And then we have Dori and her hundreds of problems of why her design is so racist and stereotypical. Even when her story is revealed that she lost her sister thus explains her greed for money it still doesn't exuse the greedy Arabic merchant troupe. Especially when Ningguang who is also a businesswoman also comes from a poor background but her personality isn't always about money.

You can find so many redesigns of Dori with many Turkish elements that doesn't fall under the racist stereotype. My personal favorites

WuWa reminds me of League of Legends designs simple designs that don't have overdetailed designs. Simple but their outfits tells you enough about who they are. Before you get introduced to their personality and ideologies.

Two of my favorite character designs are Aalto and Calcharo.

Staring with Aalto. Prior to the story we know he is information broker but can get himself out tight situations using his abilities to his advantage. He still retains his playful mischief and charisma yet he is the less likely candidate to join the Black Shores organization, until you see the flower on his right shoulder.

Calcharo is an interesting character as we haven't seen him in the the 1st chapter. However based on a CBT2 cutscene he might make his appearance in the next update. Despite looking like a Sephiroth look alike with a Kenjaku tattoo based on the his looks we can already tell he is a stern and uniform figure. However when you look at his idle interaction with his TD he's not always strict and will show some gentleness.

Then when you look at his appearance when he uses his ulti he almost looks like a TD but still retains his human self. As well as showing us a glimpse of his scars underneath his clothes. Showing us the battles he fought and survive further emphasizing his role as the leader of his mercenary group.

One last thing on the Wuthering Waves character designs and I’m gonna shut the fuck up.

This game takes place post apocalypse. This “inspired” character design that is Genshin’s clothing aesthetic would not fit into this environment. At all. Period.

Most of these people are just trying to survive. I couldn’t imagine them running about in a fucking corset and petty coat.

At the end of the day they chose other ways to make characters individual while making sure they still fit in to the setting.

It’s not bad. It’s just different and that’s a good thing.

OKAY I HAVENT FINISHED THE MAIN STORY YET (still near the beginning of act vi) BUT I HAVE A JIYAN FIC IDEA BC SOME THINGS ARE DIFF FROM CBT2 !!

basically a mix of pre-canon + current events + post-canon with previous midnight rangers medic!jiyan x midnight ranger!reader -> current (general) jiyan x exiled!reader ,,,,,

like, i need to finish act vi and his story quest to see if i can fit the timelines in somewhere but the gist of it is:

you were both recruits at around the same time and got to know each other through your check-ups (read: medic!jiyan nagging you about your concerning lack of care for yourself) -> you had an overclock (basically when resonators lose control iirc) during a mission much later on which caused a significant number of casualties and thats what causes the exile and jiyan maybe wasnt the general at the time so had no power/control over it and could only helplessly watch as you were forced to leave -> post story quest (assuming its the same/similar to cbt2) where he finally has the courage to talk to you after confiding with rover, as opposed to watching from afar with regrets and anonymously sending small things that would remind you to look after yourself (you knew it was from him, but he didn't try all that hard to hide it)
